54 reviews for Golfland
It has been a while since I've been mini-golfing, but I came here with a group of friends after dinner at Liou's in the next plaza over. The entire place was decorated for Halloween, which was pretty cool. The only problem was some of the decorations blocked the light from the lamp posts, which made it hard to hit your golf ball when you were playing.
We played an 18 hole game, but because were were so slow we only made it to the 17th hole before they started to kick us out because they were closing. It would have been nice if they were open past midnight, then maybe we could have finished our round or done a 36 hole game and seen the rest of the Halloween decorations.
Prior to having our oldest's birthday party at Golfland 2 weekends ago; we've brought the kids to play plenty of times. Every time we come we end up spending lots of $ on the arcade games for the kids. It gets addicting but fun is always had by all my babies including my BIG baby (hubby).
The staff at this Golfland is very friendly. It was painless for me to pay the deposit, order food and set up on the day of the party. We had party room #5 which is not shared by the way. We got the room to ourselves and that was pretty cool in itself. Since we had an arcade party the room was in the arcade so we were able to keep an eye on our stuff and kids. Thumbs up for that :)
The pizza was pretty good. I never ate at Golfland the times I've been there only drank water or had a drink and that was all. After the kids ate my husband paid for them to go play in the playground and more fun was had. I would definitely recommend having your child's birthday party here. We will be back...
How can a person not dig mini golfing?!
Seriously.
Grab your family, friends...whoever and spend some
quality fun time at Golfland.
Mini golfing is a great thing for those who may have
some physical limitations...
don't need big strength to putt-putt...yay!
The all-over ambiance of the outdoor putt-putt areas
was very nice.
There are a couple areas that could a little makeover;
one of the water areas was dried up and not very pretty.
Yet for the most part the place was in decent condition.
There was a bit of repetition with ant hills (those suck) and
other putt-putt layouts. Yet, the course has 18 holes and I
guess they just ran out of ideas on how to mix it up a bit.
A little stale, yet...still fun!
BTW-
there are three courses to choose from.
There are two arcades that you walk through to get to the
putt-putt area. We didn't play arcade games so cannot
elaborate on that aspect of Golfland.
Cost was $8.99 per putt-putter;
fair price considering how much
fun
fun
fun
can be had here.
Of course we had lots of fun.
Ya get what 'cha putt (put) into it.
Go there with a fun attitude, fun people and of course
you'll have fun and share many laughs while putting.
Yay- posted some photos of the course, of course!
This place is bigger, cleaner and more organized than the one in Santa Clara. It's also not as overly populated at night since the Santa Clara one is like tournament crazy for all the fighting games I guess.
The carpeting for mini golf is well kept and I suppose everyone who plays abides by the rules. Aside all the good house keeping some areas of the mini golf part smelled really funky. The sweetie and I played all 3 courses and might I say they are a little more difficult in comparison to Santa Clara. A lot of lopsided hills and not as many swing em hard courses fill this place up. However all the frustrating strokes I took, it was still fun nonetheless.
This place also has a bigger dining area, arcade and is better in terms of hosting a birthday also in comparison to the Santa Clara location.
Come here on weeknights for a more relaxed vibe and less annoying kids acting up.
For any mini-golf course, once you've been through all the holes, you've done it all. However, the arcade here is FUN and full of updated games. My friends and I had the $25 dollar combo. The pizza is greasy.
When we came on a Tuesday, the ponds were green and almost empty. I bet this place is amazing at night since that's a great time to mini-golf.
I went here with my golf obsessed uncle and my sister. We went in and right away i was like, omg what a nice arcade! Can we play in here? and my sister was like NO WE CAME HERE TO PLAY MINI GOLF NOT PLAY IN THE ARCADE! So I was like fine. -_-
Went in, we paid to get our golf equipment. The putter was pretty old but I don't think it really matters since golfland is for fun and not really serious. We chose the the middle course and played. The people infront of us had like 5 little kids so they really did make us and people behind us wait alot. I was good at some holes and pretty bad at others, for example, the volcano looking one with the blue turf. That one took over like 20 tries. O_O
Overall it was fun, and it was also my first time playing golf! I wasn't as bad as I thought I would be. It was really hot though, and i got a flat tan :| Now my feet are unevenly tanned. But it's okay, because my sister got one too so I can laugh at her also. :D
4 stars :3 (btw i did not dock one star off because of my flat tan XD)
Growing up, Golfland was the place to be, especially the arcades where many Street Fighter II tournaments occurred. Then you had the miniature golf, where it seems like every course was challenging and properly maintained. Nowadays, Golfland seemed to lose its luster with its mediocre entertainment and service. I decided to golf miniature golfing on my birthday to see how things progressed. The courses are not challenging and seems to feature the same "ant hill." Might I add, that the maintenance is poor as well. There were parts of ripped carpet that can potentially affect your play. It was fun, but having to deal with the ant hill constantly pretty much ruined the challenging experience that I've been accustomed to.
The prices are average and you can purchase discounted tickets online. The service is slow and sad, and so are the employees there. The arcade is very cramped and smells of feet and sweat dominate the place. Yikes.
Gone are the good old days, Golfland...
i like big arcades.
but it always smells like pee.
six dollar wednesdays!
House of the Dead 2
Para-Para-Paradise
oh sh!t DDR!
mini golf for two
eighteen holes is what we bought
thirty-six we played
one time i played golf
the ball landed in water
why's it always me??
winning tickets? yay!
it's almost like Chuck-E-Cheese!
i feel like i'm ten!
I thank you golfland
for bringing back memories
and ugly tan lines
Definitely one of my favorite places to kickback and just forget all the troubles in the world.
While it's true that the golf course has pretty much gone unchanged over the years, I think that it contributes to its retro factor. If you want crazy, modern-style minigolf, go look for one of those Glow-in-the-Dark places. The various holes in this particular location have a lot of variety, from a simple straightaway, to an annoying windmill, and even a skiball-style hole--it's great envisioning strategies to get hole-in-ones while your friends somehow try to cheat behind your back.
Arcades were all the rage from the '80's to the mid-90's, but after that, they've pretty much died out. The staff at Golfland make a pretty good effort at keeping the arcade current. While it's kind of lame that they have a Madden NFL machine, it's great to know that they have the Namco Mario Kart game, which is pretty cool because it has its own built-in camera along with a way to save data.
Rounds of golf usually go around $8-10 a pop depending on your age and what time of day it is, but it's well worth the price of admission with the four different courses. Losing balls is common, but usually the staff is pretty cool about giving you free balls.
However way you look at it, Golfland is just a great place to go if you're looking for a good time.
I come here once in a while to go to the arcade. It always smells weird inside. The food here really isn't that great.
It's such a treat for my kids to come here! We usually only come here for birthday parties now, but they really enjoy it.
And while we're there, I get to reminisce about the old days when we would come here and play street fighter all day long!
MGL, golf, arcade, and pizza!
I go to MGL mainly for their Parapara Paradise machine, which is a rarity in the united states. They have a good variety of video games, especially music games.
I have to say, all their video games are crammed together, so it's hard to hear over the other games all the time (espcially if you're playing a music game).
The atmosphere is very dark, but kind of old school, which is very nostalgic for me. It does smell a little, but if you play golf after playing video games you'll be relieved. =)
Mini golf is very fun, as long as you have a good attitude about it and know how to have fun. And as long as it isn't raining.
It's been awhile since JV had been mini golfing, but JQ comes here a few times a year.
It's a great date place to kick it, chill and kill some time. For about $8 for each player, you can play a somewhat challenging 18 hole course. I wish the water was running to make the scenery beautiful!
The second half of the arcade was pretty fun, but after 6 PM, you can have unlimited access for $6 per person.
Most definitely would come back to improve our mini golf game!
So my friends and I decided to hit Golfland and man has it been a while!!!!
I still remember back in middle school we would take the bus in front of 7-11 near Piedmont Middle and ride it all the way there, spend our lunch money on pizza and tokens and hang for about 4hrs then bus home.
But back to my review, They got a bunch of new games or latest versions of the old games one that caught my eye was Para Para Paradise.
They use to have one but they got rid of it and finally they brought it back.
I've always been curious about this game ever since middle school but i never actually played it. Today was no different after countless minuets of walking back and forth to check if people were in the area, trying to avoid the chance that someone could catch a glimpse of a very off beat fat Asian kid attempting but failing miserably at a game that's has been big part of American-Anime culture.
Time to hi the Tube and search up dance routine and go there with confidence and show everyone how i do it.
Another game that caught my eye was BlazBlue Calamity Trigger. The graphics were very anime like [which is why it caught my eye] the game play is still like your Tekken and Street Fighter. Also the thing that caught my eye was the 100yen stick near the coin slot [it must be from japan! but all the cool games are from japan...japan +1].
I also bought a slice of pizza just for memories.
OLD....OLD and OUTDATED!!!
I quit coming here a few years ago.The only time I set foot in Golfland anymore is when I get pizza from The Pizza Box and have a few hours to kill while the lady takes her time making my pizza. This place could use an upgrade. The arcades are mostly out of order and the miniature golf course hasnt changed since I've been coming here, for some 20 years. It seriously feels like 1988 everytime I go there.
i've been coming to this place for a long time. even though it's far from my place. the parking lot is pretty big but when it gets busy be ready to park kind of far. it does have a weird smell outside the entrance and also inside. i like this place better than chuck e cheese's because the games are much better and not kiddy. the first room is for games that give you tickets so you can redeem them for prizes. the second room is the arcade room where you'll see me most often. they have a lot of different types of games from shooting, racing, fighting, ddr style, and old school. i come here to kill time sometimes it's also a great way to release stress and forget about problems. aha that's just me though
This was the second time I have been to golfland. The day was perfect for mini golf. We came her on saturday for a friends birthday and there were not to many people around and that was good because there was 16 of us. Everyone had a blast golfing and enjoyed the time there.
The only reason why I come here is to play the arcade games!
It's so hard to find a decent DDR machine these days. Most places have old and broken DDR machines and it makes it very hard to play.
This place is pretty old, dirty, and smelly... but who cares? This golfland has one of the most decent arcades that I'm still willing to drive to. I've been coming here ever since Jr. High School.
So I'm not complaining. I'm not bitter either. I like a little challenge. But taking 10+ strokes on one hole does not do much for my ego. Especially when my 8 year old niece can sink it in 2.
And I'm the daughter of a golfer. Oh the shame.
Golfland provided hours of laughs and lots of fun for me and the family; and I have to say that the prices are pretty good too! There were 5 of us who attempted to play - and pre paid - 2 rounds of golf in 2 hours. Clearly, that was over ambitious as it took us 2 hours to finish one round. We suck. Pret-ty bad...
The cost came out to $58 (2 rounds, 4 adults ,one child) but the second round was only $3.50 and didn't need to be pre-paid for. I wish I would have known this ahead of time, damnit. But yes there is a sign, and no i did not see it, and yes it was in large print. Whoopsie. I must have been too excited by the lit up windmill twirling in the distance.
Pretttyyy!
It's probably best if you play one round first and then, if you decide to go some more, pay the $3.50...you'd be surprised how tiring 18 holes gets. Especially if it takes you 10,11,12 strokes to get passed one obstacle...
:(
At the ends of the score cards are little perforated coupons that you can tear off and save for next time - Buy one Get one Free game of mini golf, 60 tokens for $10, and you can enter a weekly drawing for a free game of mini golf too. The lady at the counter gave me free mini golf passes for our next visit since we didn't finish - or start - our second round that we paid for. That was really, really nice of her (:
My only pet peeve was the instability of the games in the arcade. I spent so much money on a damn Monopoly pinball game that refused to give me the ball! So annoying! I guess I should have gone to Lucky JuJu to get my pinball fix instead...
The other thing that kinda sucks is that you're charged a .50 fee if you lose the ball and $20 fee if you break the club. Breaking the club I can understand but the courses here are so hard that it's kinda easy to send the ball flying off into a pond or lake or...over the fence and onto the freeway for that matter....
Humph.
Overall, Golfland had a really, really challenging course, was incredibly empty for a sunday evening, and we all had a lot of fun laughing at our lack of hand eye coordination. If it wasn't so far from home, I'd go back in a second!
Until then, I shall work on my shorthand and show that volcano shaped hole a thing or two. Ugh, you bastard...
Like my SVGL review, this is just a review of the arcade, not their minigolf, which may be possibly lacking, but who knows?
I live in San Francisco, and let me just say that their arcade is worth the 50 minute drive. They have WORKING(!) ITG2 (/w r21), PIU, DDR, etc and unlimited games on thursdays for $10. They have a ton of fighting games (mvc2, 3rd strike, cvs etc) and also initial d etc.
Since good working ITG machines are becoming fewer and fewer in the bay area, make sure you go here and have some fun before it disappears to =P.
I've been a regular here since 2003, that's when I got into playing DDR. I don't come here for the mini golf obviously. I sure miss those double token deals. =( The reasons I still come here is the selections of the arcade games and their arcademania deals for their golf arcade.
-Wednesday $6: 6 pm-close
-Thursday $10: 10 am-close.
-Saturday $6: 9 am-12 noon. (not worth it, IMO)
They seem to keep their music games (DDR SuperNOVA2, ITG2, DDR Extreme, PIU, Guitar Freaks, Drummania, Para Para Paridise) in good shape.
Now, I play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3. The conditions of those cabinets have gone down the drain. The 2 WMT3 machines on the left are in bad shape. The one next to Time Crisis 4, the seat doesn't lock into place and once in a while, the force feedback on the steering wheel goes out of order. The second from the left, the force feedback is gone because this idiot noob banged the wheel left to right. And the third from the left, the sound system is messed up.
I'm not really interested in the miniature golf. I'm more into video games, and that's something that this place has alot of. The employees of this place don't maintain their games well. Joysticks that don't move the direction you want, buttons that are supposed to attack the enemy but don't, steering wheels that don't turn the direction they're supposed to, so you end up picking characters on 'Mario Kart' that you don't want.
There are alot of games that I noticed that were out of order. The marquee lights still on, but the monitor blank, giving off the reflection of the person looking into it. The ticket games not giving out tickets, and skeeball machines without balls. The claw game with plush mashed together so tight that you can't pick anything up (I really really really wanted a 'Where The Wild Things Are' plush).
They even took out my favorite game, BEATMANIA. This place seriously needs an upgrade. They need to hire more people to maintain the games, so that they entertain guests, not rip them off. Miggle used to be cool...
The place kinda stinks when you walk in
MGL isnt the same as it use to be.. Most of the ticket games there dont work and the ones that do dont give out tickets when you win. The ticket machines that collect the tickets you won dont work and the one that does work is kinda wacky. This place is another hang out for milpitas high school and some middle school kids hang out at.
I use to go here alot 2000-2002 they use to have tons of DDR Machines and better video games.
I forgot to mention...
After playing minigolf, if you give them your score card, where you turn in clubs, they will send you a coupon for a free game.

Golfland would be much cooler if they served alcohol = D
Grab a couple of drinks then head for a game… Read more »
Love this place! Even though I'm from the Monterey Bay, going up here on Thursdays and Saturday mornings is the greatest deal a dancing-game deprived enthusiast can have! Ok get this;
Wednesday nights from 6 PM to closing: $6 for unlimited golf arcade access
Thursday nights ALL DAY: $10
Saturday mornings from opening to 12 PM: $6
Knowing my girlfriend and myself, we can easily fit in about 30 games of DDR in about 2 hours, not to mention trying all the hard songs I could never dream of trying because I'd be too much of a penny-pincher to try to play it anyway!
THEY HAVE ALL 3 DANCING GAMES HERE; DDR, PIU, and ITG2
Not to mention Initial D 3 and 4, and many other arcade classics. Whoever thought of this idea deserves a Nobel Prize
This place could be alot better. Came here to mess around with the arcade which was aite but not that many good games. hella memories came back though with the metal slug. o man you dont even know. the prizes suck though nothing really seminonstupid to aim for. everything is just random plastic.
Can't wait for the "3rd Annual Putting Tournament!"
Last year Putting Tournament (held at Sunnyvale-Golfland) was really fun and exciting, and I really couldn't believe that I won that tournament. There were about "70" of us Putters left on the final tournament, and each of us has to play two rounds (18 holes each round). After my 1st round, I was only able to score 42 which is not really good, coz some Putters they scored less than 40, and one person even scored 33. So after the 1st round (I think I was on the top 30), I was really far behind from grabbing the 6th place at least.
Then the 2nd round comes, when all hope seems to fade away, then suddenly, luck turns into my side. I was able to sunk 7 holes-in-one, hitting the daunting volcano with just one stroke, and then I end up scoring only "31" on this round.
I was speechless for a while after finishing my 2nd round. My 31 score spread quickly to some Putters, and I could hear them from a distance saying, "Are you sure he scored 31?" My friends (also joined the tournament) couldn't believe it and neither do I.
After receiving the award and talking to the other 5 winners, I realized that what really helped me grabbed the 1st place was when I luckily perfected the two daunting volcanoes (one volcano on each round - East & West) by sinking only 1 stroke on each. They said they also have bunch of hole-in-one, but the daunting volcano is what really messed up their scores.
1st Annual Putting Tournament which was held at Milpitas-Golfland two years ago was also fun and exciting. Well on my part, I played really bad on this tournament. I scored about 50 on my 1st round, and then about 50 again on my 2nd round, and on the final standing, I think I was about #40. What's really remarkable about this tournament is that there were bunch of intermediate and professional golfers joined this tourney (about 30-60 years old), and the surprising was, it was a "13 yr. old kid" who grabbed the 1st place. Yes, a 13 yr. old kid whoop us all!
I really like and enjoy putting, and I really look forward to this upcoming 3rd Annual Putting Tournament. Hope to see you all there!!!
p.s. Below link-site is the "news article" about the Golfland's 2nd Tourney:
http://rey2.web.office...
.
I agree with Katelyn A- no variety whatsoever on the course. The course is more spacious and open than the other locations but it is BORING, repeating several of the same hole designs. The scenery changes but isn't really integrated into any of the hole designs. No water hazards, 1 closing castle door, a loop, and that's about it. Nothing interesting going on.
Only good thing about this place is the arcade, though there are many 2 player games with 1 joystick or games that were out of service. Overall, it's clean and has a good layout. I would come here for the arcade, but not for the course.
Fun place for the kids and adults. they've recently added some new holes and did a renovation of the place so it looks pretty new and clean. Of course this means increase in rates but it's still pretty affordable. It's right off the freeway and they do a nice job at night having the place well lit. Also, they have an arcade room for adults plus another one for the kids (like Chuck E Cheese). Golfland is just F-U-N!
This place is great for the area. In the tri city area it does it's purpose, its a place for family to hang out in a fun environment that is for kids older than the targeted age for chuckie e cheese, age 6 and up. Since the hours are semi-late it's great for teenagers looking for something to do. Also, pricing for golfland is not bad, they have great deals on different days for golf, arcade, food, and even a combination of things. If you live in the area, go check it out!
Milpitas Golfland is one of the last arcades with Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. Plus if you go at the right time there's still some competeition. Shit, at night sometimes there will be like 8 people waiting to play someone on Capcom VS SNK. It gets pretty crazy. All in all, it's a cool place.
Although whatshisname; dude with the glasses could calm down a bit. Dude is like a fucking hall monitor. He always threatens to call "M.P.D." on everybody for no reason. & He always says "M.P.D." too. He can never just say "cops" or "the police" like a normal person. Only assholes use acronyms on the regular.
Who doesn't love miniature golf, cheap arcades, and ticket games? Open semi-late (10 or 11?), perfect for teenagers, DDR fans, and stuff. I LOVE Area 51, now if only I was good at it...
Besides the often unattended golf courses this is a place for occasional fun. At night this place gets pretty jam-packed with guys hoping to re-create Daigo's comeback and other matches for Street Fighter III: Third Strike and guys trying to become rhythm masters with the various Konami games. In the darker corners of the arcade you can find older games like my favorite four-in-one Neo-Geo games for only one token. Getting here early on Saturdays means you get more bang for your buck.
In short there's fun for adults who still enjoy arcades and kids at Golfland.
My boyfriend brought me here today because we were extremely bored out of our minds . The arcade here is alright .. it has a few racing games like Initial D 3 , Initial D 4 , and MarioKart . They have some shooting games such as Time Crisis 3 and House of the Dead . They have some shooting games , air hockey , the guitar game , the drum game , three DDR machines , one ITG machine , and some little kid games where you play to win tickets . They could use a few more games but they had a decent amount that kept me and my boyfriend entertained while we were waiting for friends .
I don't like this location at all. There is no variety, it feels like every hole is the one you shot before. Also most of the holes don't really give you a fair chance to sink you ball, as most of the holes have some kind of deffect that prevents you from attaining mini golf glory.
The arcade is cool, if you got vintage style and are looking to play some older games.
If you want to mini-golf... man o man. SUPER ghetto courses. Not very challenging at all and it seems the management hasn't looked after them in years. Shit is faded from the sun. New paint? She is falling apart? A few screws? Shit is ripped! New felt?
It was fine when I was a kid... but now I am unimpressed.
Also, 8 bucks to mini-golf? Not horrible, but I would prefer to knock off a few bucks to go stare at a broken white washed paper mache elephant in Milpitas.
Went strictly for the arcade, and it was worth it. Good token deals, they don't overcharge for games like so many other arcades, and a wide selection.
Fighting games hotbed which is why I went, but they have a little bit of everything: pinball, shooters, ddr types, racing, puzzles.
Had fun, though I also went at a time when there wouldn't be many kids around.
I went here after a failed adventure to Chuck E Cheese to play a little golf and I realized....you know, I really really suck at miniture golf! I mean I'm absolutely terrible at it. After I humilated myself, I decided to roam the arcade for a little while. I took advantage of the 60 arcade tokens for $10 deal which is valid daily when you turn in your golf scorecard (on which our scores were completely fabricated I might add).
Even though decent public arcades are slowly fading from existence, Golfland remains strong and is still entertaining. There is something for EVERYONE to play here. On this particular visit I became addicted to Drum Mania and Guitar Freaks...and played a little Silent Scope and House of the Dead. Mario Kart Arcade GP 2 was silly and interesting, and for those of you who have not yet played it, the game features the "Nam Cam" which takes a snapshot of your face and puts it onscreen next to your rival.
I don't think that I will ever tire of the arcade experience and I would definitely recommend this arcade over the Golfland in Castro Valley. However if you want to golf here...well the course was kind of ghetto and unimpressing so minus one star for that. At one point I had to jab my club into one of the little houses that has a bridge that goes up and down because our ball was stuck. Overall I had a good time.
I went here for the first time the day after Thanksgiving and had a total blast! Golf Course Three was so fun and challenging enough that it took my friend and I a good hour to get through it. Golf Courses One and Two, prepare yourself for another onslaught of put put fun!
for me yeah its hella far. but so what. i go there probably once in a while when i got time. or when i am REALLY craving for pump it up.
well first time i went there. i was like WTF wheres the arcade dont be alarmed its in the back.
what i highly recommend. theirs this game on the side once you enter the front near the counter where they have those prizes when you collect those tickets. its possibly the most addicting game they have there. it gets you mad it gets you in all sorts of moods. its called the king of the hammer. why is it great. its challenging and its cheap. its really good if you have friends with you cause everybody gets into it.
its 1 token for 2 trys. you cant beat that. i usually play this after the arcades just a real time consumer and it ends our stay at golfland.
the arcade i think its great. its always updated with the top games people want to play i would say its the mecca of MUSIC GAMES thats if your a fan of it. it has guitar freaks, para para, pump it up DDR, i mean the list goes on. and what i like the most is its split off into sections like music games, racing games, shooting and fighting games. everytime i go there i have fun.
i dont really go to golfland for golf or anything else they have just games. and thats what i like. but usually most of the time i go to MGL just for the music games but for INITIAL D version 4 i go to SVGL which is sunnyvale golf land its a bit closer to my house and its much cheaper only a dollar now yay!
