You have to go to this place when you go to Boise. We found this place to be full of locals. The place is small loud and crowded. You will be lucky to get in without waiting a few minutes. They get your cellphone number and call when table open, so you can walk around the block check out the city.;
We seat up stairs, I would recommend, because less crowded, plus you can look down and people watch.
The food jumps out at you with creative food and lots for choices. The food was super and the atmosphere was soft and clean.
The prices are for student budgets .
This is a repeat place on our list when we came back to Boise.
I love breakfast. I will eat it any chance I get. I particularly love to get breakfast at the cities I travel to around the country. You can judge a city by the good breakfast places they have. And Boise has one of the best breakfast places anywhere with Goldy's.
The wait can be short. Or it can be up to a half hour or so. It is not that large with two levels. It is downtown and a block from one of the biggest hotels in Boise, The Grove. It is full of businesspeople, students, out of towners and anyone else who wants good grub.
The eggs are delightful.
the sausage patties were pattied by hand from bulk sausage and not some pre-packaaged, pre-cooked stuff. The potatoes were fresh (they should be!) and the coffee was not bad.
What makes this place special is the magical way it is all put together. The taste, preperation, quality and attention they pay to you. My two business associates swear by the place and so do I.
Want a good breakfast. Go to Goldy's.
Delicious food, pleasant waitstaff, interesting atmosphere.
My smoked salmon hash was yummy and the best take on breakfast hash I've had to date. Fruit cup featured the freshest fruit I've ever tasted. Mimosas were exceptionally pleasant.
I wish this place were in Seattle. It certainly brightens Boise's downtown mornings. I wanted to eat there every morning I was in Boise.
Just a note - be prepared to wait a little while almost every day. (It is really worth the wait. )
All I can say is hooray for this place! It was my first time in Boise and my boyfriend kept telling me we just HAD to go to Goldy's. Boy was he right!
It was definitely difficult deciding what to get, but in the end I opted for a Fresh Mushroom fritatta. It was truly delightful! Topped with a rich, creamy tomato sauce, it contained flavorful mushrooms, fresh herbs and- the piece de resistance- spaghetti noodles! It sounded so quirky I had to try it and now I don't think I will ever want a fritatta without noodles in it ever again!
The service was great, and they had a huge selection of different mimosas. The one I had contained orange, guava, and cranberry juice!
The wait was pretty long- about 45 minutes- but we walked around downtown and they were nice enough to phone us when our table was ready. The portions are hearty and the prices were average. If I ever make it back to Boise, there is no doubt where I will go for breakfast!
Maybe Goldy's has just been having a bad week. My partner and I ate there a few days ago, and while his huckleberry pancakes and fruit cup both looked and tasted (or so I'm told) great, my meal was "meh".
The poached eggs at least were done perfectly, and the toast was just your average bagged variety but I'm not picky about bread. However the marinara sauce, (which I'm assuming was meant to be the main feature of the meal, given that it was over 50% of the food on my plate) was really bland. Not sure if it came from a jar or if the cook has a fear of spice racks, but it was almost too boring to eat apart from the chicken and asparagus that came with it.
And was it just them having an off week, or are their specialty coffees usually watery?
Still, given all the great reviews and the fact that they didn't really screw anything up majorly, I'm still willing to give them another try... if only because those pancakes looked amazing.
This is a terrific little, and I mean little, place. I'm sad it's in Boise, and not next to my house in Santa Monica. :(
They definitely don't need any more glowing reviews, but any place that puts pots of fresh coffee on the sidewalk for the poor bastards sitting outside waiting for a table gets 5 stars in my book.
We got there early on a Monday, so there was no waiting to be seated, which was nice. The service was great, any questions about the menu and they are very happy to answer them. The food is definitely worth it, as you won't find the selection they have anywhere else and reasonable pricing. Also they serve Dawson and Taylor coffee, so a nice wake up to the morning.
LOVE IT!!! I am a HUGE breakfast person, I could eat it for every meal every day, so this place is heaven for me! Be prepared to wait if you go after 8 or so, especially on weekends, but its so worth it. There's no where to sit and wait though, just tough it out. I've been here several times and tried different things (sorry I can't remember its been a few years) and everything was absolutely delicious!!
Quick, friendly service; tasty food; good location. One of the golden rules is: eat where the locals eat. Lots of suits eating here and they seem to be locals.
i wasn't due to meet my boss until 8:40am so i woke up earlier than i needed to and grabbed some brunch in BoDo. There's free breakfast at the hotel but I was curious about Idahoan Yelpers' favorite breakfast place.
This nook on Capitol was packed for a business morning but luckily I found a table. Water and menus arrived promptly. The wait team was friendly and efficient. My order was taken and my cappuccino arrived shortly after. They will ask you if you like your cappuccino wet or dry. This means whether you want more express or more foam. First time I was asked this question. I like foam but I like liquids more, so wet for me it was. No rock sugar stirring wand here (unlike McCormick's in LA) but after my cup was emptied, the waiter came by to fill it with coffee. What a nice touch.
i hadn't planned on eating lunch at the client's cafeteria again so i went for the Sundried Tomato Frittata. I figure any diner can do eggs and potatoes and sausage, so i gave the Special of the Day a try. It was a little strange to me that they drowned the frittata in gorgonzola + sundried tomato sauce. it was tasty, nonetheless. however, they are really greasy as well (leftovers had generous amounts of liquid gold oil all over the bottom of the box). after a few bites, I realized that it was still to early to eat so i put the leftovers in the paper to-go boxes and was on my way.
i was able to get in and out of this two-story breakfast spot within a half hour.
similar to N.N.'s experience (scroll way down), i had accelerated bowel movement. Good if you have traveler's constipation or just want your colons clean. No complains here. My client told me that Goldy's an awesome place. So there: locals approved, Yelpers agree - Goldy's a winner.

well, i cant add much as there are enough glowing reviews, other than my ordering suggestions....
price: affordable, think ihop + a couple bucks
impressive: Eggs Benny, Basque Omelet
good: pancakes
meh: andalusian eggs
There is framed article from Bon Appetite magazine (2002) above one of the tables on the first floor that lists the top 10 places for breakfast in America. Goldy's is listed as #1. I agree.
We were four first-timers who all really enjoyed our breakfast. We were there mid-morning on a weekday, and had to wait about 15 minutes.
It's a cozy place, with somewhat tight seating (perhaps too tight for the taller ones, but you'll find a table that will work - not to worry). Service was good time-wise, maybe a tad long for the food, but nothing to complain about - the place was so busy so I'd rather wait a bit for good food.
I had asked if they could change one menu item (they seemed a bit heavy on the nut and/or raisin items - great for many, not me). At first they said no, but then came back and said 'yes', but I was forewarned it could suffer ever so slightly in quality - a risk I was willing to take. I loved it (an altered French toast). My friends all liked their food, esp. the grits (w/ cheese?) - creamy. Coffee was fine - probably could be a tad better brand, but fine. I didn't notice if espresso drinks were offered - don't think so. Service was good, attentive and by a cutie (and he knew it - a little too much, but that's okay). As usual, I find non-Californian servers so much better. He remembered every little detail of our order, every little tweak, change, request - and *everything* was delivered as requested. SO nice. The bathroom was dinky, but it served its purpose. We were upstairs, which looked dark from below, but ended up being fine.
Goldy - I wish I lived closer to you so I could try everything on your menu! Cooooo.
So so so so good! Best breakfast ever!! Eggs Benne the best anywhere. Great Coffee. Must have the breakfast burrito. So delicious!!!! The french toast is amazing! My favorite favorite place ever!!
Yelp did it again...steering me in the right direction.
As it happened this place was across the street from my downtown Boise hotel, and I was able to get right in two days in a row with no wait.
Sat in their cramped upstairs, without any degradation in service. Tried two different versions of their signature Eggs Benny and loved them both. I was kinda mixed on their Sweet Potato Home Fries. I would definitely return.
Great breakfast (especially the potatoes and sausage). Consider getting a fresh made muffin as well. Staff is very friendly and quick.
Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the wait most days.
I think this is definitely a great find for a random breakfast in Boise.
The thing that sucks is the wait...but that tends to happen at good restaurants.
Poached egg...perfect.
Salmon...yummy.
Hollandaise...couldv'e used a little more salt or citrus, but creamier than most.
POTATOES....TO DIE FOR!
Seriously, I can't wait to go back to Boise and just eat like 3 orders of Goldy's breakfast potatoes.
Nice spot!
Five stars, because Goldy's has a special, special place in my heart.
Goldy's. The place I first learned to love really good non-chain brunch places.
Goldy's. The place where I first tasted, loved, and always reordered, a breakfast burrito.
Goldy's. The place where I first stood in line for two hours and didn't mind one bit.
Goldy's. The place I never minded walking a mile for, because they didn't have any parking.
Goldy's. The one saviour in a city of chain restaurants.
Goldy's. The place I first tasted breakfast potatoes, and was immediately spoilt for life.
Goldy's. The place where the hot chocolate was always perfect and the coffee while waiting in line was always free.
Goldy's. The one place my SO and I called "ours". In a non-romantic, goofy relationship like ours, this was particularly notable. Especially because Goldy's is so cramped and crowded.
Goldy's. The one place we always made a point to go to when I came to town the three years my SO lived here.
Goldy's. The one Boise town place you should go to, too.
I am here in Boise right now and I am staying 2 blocks down the street from this place. I found it by looking it up here on Yelp. It was great, I though the menu was great and I really took 10 minutes staring at it. I couldn't decide. The service was good and everyone was nice, I might go there again tomorrow. Thanks everyone in the Yelp world for helping me out on this place!!!!!
Since one of our fellow Los Angelenos were in the neighborhood and had given Goldy's high marks we though we should check it out while here in Boise.
When we arrived there were three chairs, a few couples and free coffee waiting outside the building. You have to go through the dramatic red curtains to place your name on the list and are told its about a 10min wait for which they will call you when its your time.
Once invited in you are told where to sit and then a few min later a wait staff comes to ask what you would like.
For as busy as it is Goldy's does a great job recognising that they are busy but not neglecting the waiting customers by leaving free coffee outside along with a few chairs. The service there (been there twice) was great both times and the food (delicious and quite a few healthy choices offered) comes out quite quick for the amount of people there.
The espressos both times has been fresh and the cost of the meals will not brake the bank.
Now that we will be here in Boise quite a bit I know this will be a place I can count on for a great bistro breakfast.
In my former job, I traveled all over the United States. When I came to Boise, I stayed at a hotel called the Grove (a very nice hotel which I will yelp about later). Across from the Grove, I found one of the BEST breakfast places ever.
From french toast to omelettes, everything is superb. The fruit is very fresh and the entire atmosphere is very homey. The top reason why I'm giving this place 5 stars is one particular dish: CORNED BEEF AND HASH. Most places serve corned beef and hash from a can (like Staggs), mash it up into a patty, and serve it with some potatoes. But, Goldy's actually uses a real corned beef brisket. They slice it super thin and dice it into small pieces. Mixed in and grilled with Idaho potato hash browns, this ranks on my list as one of the best tasting breakfasts I have ever had.
Quality ingredients, home town flavor, and dishes made with care make this a must visit when you're in Idaho.
First time I came here, the line was out the door and the waitlist was an hour long. Unfortunately my sister's flight was in less than 2, so we didn't go for it.
Today during lunch I had a hankering for some breakfast-type foods. I ended up getting the chicken fried steak combo - a chicken fried steak, two eggs (any style - I got over medium, done perfectly by the way!), a choice of potatoes (I got the corned beef hash... mmMMmm), and a choice of 'bread' (I got the blueberry pancake - not too shabby). I thought the food was great... but the service was a bit slow - after ordering we waited about 40 minutes before we got our meals. I wouldn't have minded except it was on my lunch hour, which sucked... =/ Then again, I think there were two line cooks and two helpers with three wait staff for a pretty packed place. Next time I'll try to come during a non-business-lunch time. =P
I think my price range got bumped up because I paid a bit more for tip - but the combo was $10.95 for more food than most can handle and a glass of OJ was $2.55 - I paid $17 total after tax and tip.
Definitely worth trying again - the rest of their menu looks awesome.
Best breakfast place I know. Love their iced tea, potatoes are amazing! Wish I still lived in Boise so I could go here everyday!
Goldy's is THE best breakfast restaurant in Boise. From the moment you walk in the door the service is incredible. The food is fantastic. I've been going to Goldy's for about 7 years. It doesn't get better than Goldy's for weekend breakfast (especially)...
BEST BREAKFAST EV-VER! I've been going to Boise for work for the last five years and I always make it a point to stop by Goldy's. From the ambiance to the food. I always get their breakfast special -- two eggs, choice of meat (I always get Andouille sausage), Goldy's Special Potatoes, and toast.
I love Goldy's Special Potatoes. I don't know what they do to it, but it is SO TASTY! I LOVE IT! In fact, I've been tempted to eat nothing but their potatoes. And if I had to be reincarnated as a starch, I'd like to come back as a serving of Goldy's Special Potatoes.
Anyway, it's a must if you're staying in downtown!
My husband and I are in LOVE with this place. This is one of the 2 best breakfast places we've ever been to (and we've been to a LOT of breakfast places). Because there are so many good things about this place, I'm going to have to make a list.
1. The perfect menu. Pre assembled selections/combinations of menu items, and a section where you can choose a meat, potato, bread and/or? pastry.
2. Super fun wait staff
3. Coffee that was good enough to drink black
4. The quality of the food was outstanding. My fruit cup had mango, strawberry, raspberry, grapes, mellon, blackberries, watermellon, apple, banana, and I think maybe a few more things... it was AWESOME. I also got some yummy veggie thing that was quite good. Not too salty. I don't remember what Peter ordered, but I got a picture of it. We were thoroughly impressed with everything.
5. They had every condiment (catsup, 3 kinds of tabasco, salt, pepper etc), sweetener, regular cream and flavored, and more right at the table, but off to the side so it didn't take up room.
The only down side is we were enjoying ourselves so much that we lost track of time and ended up with a parking ticket :-/. No fault of Goldy's though... it was well worth it.
This is the kind of place that would bring us back to Boise over and over again. Serious 5 star breakfast here.
Was in Boise for a conference. Hit up Yelp and did not disappoint. Had to wait 5 minutes but it was worth the wait. The coffee was good and the potatoes are Awesome. I got the red potatoes with peppers and onions and cheese and they were great. I also had the chicken fried steak. The steak had a great bread crust but the steak was a bit fatty and chewy. Not my style but still good. The wait staff was very friendly and made for a great experience.
This place is good--better than anything that I've had on the coast. We've try to eat breakfast there every time we travel through Boise. Goldy's is located in the Basque area in downtown. A few of the items on the menu use Basquesque ingredients.
Really good food, friendly service, clean and warm ambiance.
Apparently this place is like an Idaho institution and from the looks of it (currently with 6 reviews) I think it's the highest rated thing here on Yelp for Boise :)
Coming from San Francisco, I had Mama-esque expectations (See Mama's on Stockton) and I have to say Goldy's comes close.
There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try (always a good sign) but I ended up going with the biscuits and gravy with a side of Goldy's potatoes, which I was looking forward to the most - I mean c'mon anytime you name a dish after your restaurant, it better be good.
Overall the meal and service was great (very prompt with the coffee refills, even at 11:00 am). I am deducting one star though because my biscuits and gravy were close to room temperature when it came out. It wasn't bad enough to make me want to send it back (to get microwaved and redelivered) but enough to disappoint me.
I'm not sure when I'll be back in Boise, but when I am, I'll be sure to go back to Goldy's and grab a few other things of the menu.
Whenever I am in Boise and want a fantastic breakfast, I head straight to Goldy's. The food is absolutely amazing (I highly recommend the french toast and scrambled eggs). The staff is always super friendly, quick, and helpful. I have had people in other states who are not from Boise tell me how much they loved Goldy's. It is simply awesome. The only downfall is that there is usually a wait, but that must mean that it is amazing and is SO worth the wait.
Getting old is the process of losing the desire to go nuts all night. I think we stayed up until 1am last night! So we get up late, and Goldy's has a queue.
You can leave your cell number with them, and they'll call when your table's ready. This place is well thought out. Food is very good, and looks attractive, with the herbs on the side just so, etc. There's vegetarian options too.
I love this place (but hate the wait). It's a must whenever we are in Boise. I love both the savory and sweet items!
We were in town for the inaugural 70.3 half ironman and my wife's local research told her Goldy's was the place to go for our post-race-day brunch with our local friends. Research don't lie, folks! Goldy's was the PERFECT place to close out our time in Boise. Besides having an epic time in the city itself, and being greeted with overwhelming enthusiasm and hospitality for the entire race weekend, finishing at Goldy's was icing on an already stupendous cake. When we got there at 10am on a Monday we were told there would be a 1 hour wait. The hostess took our name down and my cellphone number. No one in L.A. has this kind of common sense even though Paris Hilton's DOG has a cellphone (and a held table at Spago, but only dogs eat at Spago). We went to get a cup of coffee around the corner at local chain Moxie (damn fine cup of coffee), and in less than half an hour my phone rang that our table was ready.
Everything on the menu looked delicious! I had a very hard time making up my mind. (I should state that in my caloric-deprived and post-race endorphin high state it is possible that a Home Depot aluminum gauge chart would have seemed delicious.) Because of the day before I decided to take the brakes off the diet and go for broke. I ordered the day's special: two chicken breasts split over eggs, bacon, on English muffins topped with a spicy garlic Hollandaise sauce. And what the hell, I also ordered the French toast stuffed with bananas, brown sugar, walnuts, and butter! Bring on the carbs! Rest of party ordered pancakes for the kids, omelets, salmon cakes, and more. Everything is made to order and many of the items like the salmon cake and sausages are made on the premises so the meal took some time to get to our table. But the staff was extremely friendly and attentive and we certainly didn't feel ignored.
Because when the food arrived IT WAS DELIVERED FROM OLYMPUS. Zeus's beard never had such offerings as I tasted. Farm fresh ingredients made perfectly and served in generous, almost mid-west proportions. I have been punishing myself by calling the ingredients I get in my urban hellhole "food" because the bounty that was on my plate that morning was worthy of the Platonic ideal of breakfast. Stealing bites off other plates yielded more detonations of joy, leading me to proclaim I was not going back home to L.A. I was moving in to a permanent table at Goldy's. My friends were welcome to visit any time.
I'm sure Goldy's won't mind me moving in. Especially since I'll need to race a half ironman EVERY DAY to justify eating the menu EVERY DAY. It will be a life lived in sweet, terrible ecstasy.
This is the spot to have breakfast! Without a doubt there isn't anywhere else that compares. The only part that sucks is the wait, but they take your cell phone number to call you when your table is ready, who else does this? Go here and order what you must, it's so good!
Seriously challeges and conquers just about every brunch restaurant in San Francisco. Yeah, I said that. Dishes are not as original as, say, some of the stuff at Foreign Cinema or Citizen Cake, but the servings are big, the menu is vast, quality of ingredients is top notch, crowd is friendly, wait is long and on the street but they do provide free coffee. I wish I had some of their fresh muffins right now. The best eating experience in Boise!!! Not to be missed. Thanks, Cruise!
Good food in a cozy place that serve's coffee outside on the sidewalk while you wait .. and even an occassional celebrity sighting ... but do not go here w/ a large group. You will wait and wait and wait and wait and then probably end up w/ half your group upstairs and the rest downstairs ... But, they do have sweet potato hashbrowns which make everything right in the world!
The food is good, the atmosphere is nice, but won't live up to the hype you're endlessly bombarded with. Bit on the smallish side, bit too focused on making breakfast odd (the incredible meandering menu), but always worth a visit.
Tasty and a very nice variety of choices. My friends and I have some conspiracy theory about Goldy's however. It often leads to an "upset tummy." That's a nicer way of saying what I'm really trying to say but don't want to be vulgar or offend. It might be the coffee interacting with our hangovers but it's a very common occurance after a big breakfast at Goldy's. So go, eat, enjoy, but get back home quickly - or face the consequences.
Great breakfast. I had the Eggs Blackstone and the hollandaise was really well balanced, usually they forget the lemon... My son's blueberry pancake was very good too. The people were all very nice. Best meal I had in Boise.
A Boise insider's choice. It is always busy but worth the wait! The Chorizo omelette is the best I've ever had. Sunday's are crazy, the the rest of the week is much better in terms of the wait. Sometimes things are worth waiting for and this is it!
