This place is charming, not swanky.  This place is small, not expansive.  This place is authentic.

Our kids are from Kazakhstan so they spent their first months/years in a country that was once a part of the USSR and that is still heavily influenced with Russian culture/food/etc.  We couldn't wait to take them to this place after getting them home.  It was interesting to watch their faces as they heard Russian speaking voices for the first time in many weeks.  They may no longer understand the Russian language (except for a few favorite words) but they still love the food.

We love this place!  We went here before the kids.  We went here when we were learning Russian.  We went there because the food is healthy and is not jammed up with tons of artificial colors, artificial flavors, and preservatives.  We still go there often.

As you enter, you will find a tiny little produce/refrigerated section that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables as well as several options for home made pickles (including the brined cherry tomatoes with dill that I adore and eat like other people eat potato chips).  Then you have a small dairy selection (including European style items) and finally you have a section of meats including amazing sausages and smoked items.  I love their Jewish sausage.

You can also find a diverse selection of juices, canned goods, condiments, teas, baking supplies, spices, crackers, breads, cookies and other baked goods. There are lots of chocolates and other candies. You can hit the deli counter for cheeses and meats.  They also have a small selection of smoked fish and caviar.  Their frozen section has cakes, these amazing little chocolate covered frozen cheese cakes (only about 3-4 bites each) that come in different flavors like honey, currant, and chocolate. You can also find other frozen items like pilmeni (dumplings very similar to the pierogis).

They have some toiletry/cleaning items like shampoo and soap.  There are Russian books, movies, magazines, and decorations (such as the matryoshka).

The owners are lovely people.  Charming, thoughful, and as interested in you as you are in them.  Even when we stop in for just a few cans of riga sprats, we always find ourselves walking out with a bag full of yummy items.

While they are Russian speakers, their English is also good so don't shy away because you're afraid to not fit in.  They are very welcoming.

Oh my, what can i say good about this store, I guess Nothing good. If you look carefuly 1/2 of the food there is way past its expiration date. I went there few time for baby food, when I got home to make it was expired in 2008. So all I have to say is if you really want to play Russian Rulet with your health, check it out!

This was a nice find for eastern european groceries (mainly russian).  In NYC these are a dime a dozen, but out here I was happily surprised to even find one.  Their selection is limited, but they do have the major items such as bread, candy and meat from Russia, Poland, etc... While the store is small you can find some key ingredients if you are looking to cook up some eastenr euro food.  Worth a trip if you wanna check out something different.  Store is simple and owners were nice.  Also good selection of eastern european newspapers and magazines.
