Not bad at all. They have a really reasonable plan, plenty of equipment and a no attitude staff. I agree with the one comment that the cardio equipment is aging and they don't have the cardio theatre for your headphones for watching tv etc. But it's all there, just go do it!
I like this gym as well as the one in Mountain View best. The minor negatives are : 1) Cardio equipment is older 2) It ain't the Golds of yester year.
To expound, I miss the energy of the hard core body building crowd. You could feed off the energy. Most people I see at the gym are not the hard core crowd. I do not have an issue with that but I feel as though I'm at a 24-hr Fitness sometimes. I guess Jerry could not stay in business if he only catered to the hard core.
On a positive note, the staff is very friendly and the monthly dues reasonable.
Overall this is a very good Golds. A good gym must have a large selection of free weights and a resonable selection of newer machines.
I really like the Gold's Gym franchise in the south Bay. They are open long hours and have a great staff. Their equipment is always updated and clean! The Santa Clara location is set up like a warehouse and seems to cater more to the weightlifters. The cardio rooms are in the back so you have to walk through the weights area to get there. I prefer the Campbell location which separates the cardio by giving it the entire 2nd floor. Mountain View has a separate building for cardio! Also, the Santa clara location does not have a huge selection of group classes.
All the gyms in the South Bay area I have looked at leave something to be desired, but this one is about average. It has most of what you need to lift heavy, but it lacks the drive that I have found throughout good gyms in the US. Not a lot of heart here. I joined 24 Hour Fitness after 2 months at Gold's because it is just as good and much, much cheaper. Plus I know there is a great on in Hermosa Beach for when I visit.
This is a "good-enough-gym" for people looking for a serious workout. The cardio rooms are small (there are two) and have sufficient TVs and fans. The main focus of this gym is the weights. There are lot of machines and free weights for everyone and every type of person/body. I like the morning crowd - they are mostly serious about their workouts without being "meat-heads." The morning spinning classes (Mon., Wed. & Fri.) are very popular and good. There aren't many other group classes offered and if they are they tend not to be very popular and usually canceled quickly. The gym is pricey for what they provide, but there are other locations that offer more classes and more cardio room. I would recommend this place for someone serious about making a lifestyle change and not for someone who is looking for newest fitness fad. Like I said, it pricey and only worth it if you use it and you're serious.
