Its all about gold's gym! Maybe its because I work out late, but I never have to wait for machines. The employees are super friendly and everything is well organized. Tons of room and feels like home to me. If I had the time, I would work out at gold's gym more!
Even though some of the meat heads here are douche bags with raging testosterone, I like it here. Everyone usually minds their own business, but ive witnessed several occasions when dudes bump heads. Dont get me wrong though, there are tons of guys and gals here who are way cool too.
I have been going to this gym for over 10 years now and I love it since you can get in and get out. Also great that it's near my house so I make sure I will go! They have weights downstairs and upstairs are the aerobic classes and cardio machines. Everyone who goes there is not hanging out to be seen or get a date. Most members are very friendly but doing their workout and then go! The instructors are great and I just love Phyllis for her Cross training class on Monday and her weight training class on Thursday and Saturday. She is there to kick your butt and give a great workout no matter what shape you are in. There are quite a few muscular men and women there but I don't see them as intimidating at all but actually motivating and nice.
Great gym for the money and convenient times on classes!

I work out at this gym about three or four times per week. Here are the main points you'll want to know.
1. You'll find all kinds of people here, but they have one thing in common --they want to work out. This is not a gym/spa, so if you're looking for a pool, juice bar, massage, etc. this is probably not the best fit.
2. Excellent selection of equipment. I rarely have to wait for the aerobic machines or weights I want.
3. Members range from obese people just getting into working out, to those on physical therapy following injury to professional weight lifters and everyone in between. I've never seen anyone made to feel unwelcome for being out of shape (that's why we go to the gym --to get in shape). This is not a snobby gym.
4. Location is good. Right off San Thomas Expressway.
5. One downside, classes do not always seem to happen according to the schedule on the wall. This might be due to lack of interest. Perhaps the gym could market these a little better.
6. Upstairs (where treadmills are) can occasionally get a bit of a funk to it.
7. Staff and other members are very friendly.
Overall --- great gym if you're looking for a serious workout.

This gym is great. The people that work there are awesome and the machines are great. Layout on the first floor is really good and well thought out.
Hella peeps on roids there... those traps are HUGE!!
By far my favorite out of all of the Golds gym locations. It's not like a Club One "Health Club" it's a full on Gym. I love to lift weights and the whole first floor is all about lifting. No "Fluff" just hard core working out. The other Gym members are in pretty good shape so it is motivating too.

I joined this gym a few weeks ago and I am glad I did.
This is a serious gym. This is not the type of gym you come to and see your best friend who is looking super cute in her dri-fit nike yoga pants standing over near the bicep machine flirting it up with the cute new trainer. Then, because you have uber exciting news about your own new boy toy, you eagerly trot over to her and chat it up for an hour as you sit on the inner thigh extension machine doing one rep every minute to make it look like you're actually working out. After an hour of working out basically your jaw muscles you and your bff decide to hit up starbucks and suck down 500x more calories than you just burned (because you didn't burn any).
No no, this is not that type of gym. I joined this gym because I was eager to get back into shape (I'll admit, I've been lazy) and I wanted a good gym that had all sorts of different equipment.
I went to this gym and took a quick tour with one of their customer service reps. He pointed out everything that I needed to know; locker room, cardio equip, weights, etc.. They showed me the pricing packages they have never pushing anything on me. Two things that really caught my eye: 1 - No contract, cancel anytime for any reason. 2- If you know you will not be using the gym for a month or more you can suspend your account and only pay $7/month. Not that I plan on doing that, but it's nice to know it's there.
I've never had to wait to use any equipment from cardio to weights and I have gone many times during peak hours (evenings after work). They have plenty of stations that have paper towels and a disinfecting spray that I consistently see members use on the equipment which is very nice and courteous. I gone to a few of the yoga classes and am impressed by the instructors. There are also mats and blocks that you can use with the class if you don't have any.
This gym always has a positive and motivational atmosphere. The staff always greets me, some even by name before I scan my card. It's a no-nonsense gym where you can come in, work out and get on with your life. I'm very satisfied with everything and am so glad I joined.
Home base for my personal training business and my favorite location to workout myself. People are very warm and welcoming once you get to know everyone. That is of course, if you are willing to be open minded and not have pre-conceived notions of people.
Not a foo-foo gym, but you shouldn't be going to a gym for their amenities IMHO. Correct me if I am wrong, but you are there to get a good workout and get in shape. This is the place if you want to motivated by both males and females that are in serious shape. Not gonna find tons of people hanging out chit-chatting. Great environment for those aspiring to accomplish fitness goals. Very motivating!!

This is a great gym. I remember back in 1998 I was looking for a gym and checked this place out. The staff was VERY low pressure, and even offered me a week pass to try the gym out. I told them I was just shopping around and that I wanted to check out the other gym on Campbell Ave near Nob Hill. I forgot the name but that gym was small and the salesmen were sharks. They told me that when I was serious about working out, I should come back and join them. That made me upset and I went back to Golds.
Now, I'm a little biased towards this gym because I used to work there. However, when you look at the equipment and the layout, you'll see why this is the gym to workout at.
Dumbbells range from 2 lbs all the way up to 180lbs. There are about 6-10 pieces of equipment per body part. That means even during peak hours, you will not be waiting for a machine or weight.
The cardio room is great. Lots of fans, lots of machines. Treadmills are new, step-mills are somewhat new, elliptical machines are new and bikes are new. Never a wait for a piece of cardio equipment even during peak hours.
As far as my 4 star rating it's because of this... the staff isn't as friendly as it used to be. When I worked there, not only did i acknowledge every person that walked through the doors, we always talked to them. We knew their names and granted some people never wanted to talk, most would be courteous and at least say hi.
When I was on my way out from employment from this gym, the front desk staff was being shifted more to salesman than customer service reps. They wanted us to be the next 24 hours fitness staff. They wanted us to be sharks. I left before that was fully instituted. However, I think they've shifted back to low pressure sales. But the staff still isn't as friendly as it used to be.
As far as the crowd goes, you have your typical meat heads at prime time but they constitute only maybe 7-10% of the population of the whole gym. You'll see maybe 5-8 juiced up muscle heads. Most of those guys are serious about bodybuilding so they mind their own business. Those guys are good guys- they know gym etiquette.
Now you have the wanna-be muscle heads. Those are the worst and constitute about 25% of the gym. They make the majority of the prime time crowd. These guys are the ones slamming the 40lbs dumbbells, and NOT re-racking their weights. These guys are the jerks of the gym. They will occupy a machine for about 30 minutes while they gab about b.s. to another gym jerk. These guys walk around the gym with I.L.S. aka imaginary lat syndrome. Try your best to avoid these guys.
I can go on for days talking about the gym. I say just go on down and check it out for yourself. The gym really does sell itself. It's a great gym and for the most part, the members are friendly.

This is a serious gym..
I used to be a member here until the drive was a bit much for me. The gym layout here is nice. There are a ton of free weights for everyone. There are machines that even workout your neck, thats right, your NECK! Everyone there is pretty friendly and helpful. They have an area where you can buy supplements and I believe they had a juice bar there when I went. By saying juice I mean the ones with fruits..hahahha. This is a great place to workout and pack on muscle.
If there was a Golds Gym closer to my area I'd def. sign up here again.

Not a bad gym. Major complaint about the dumb bell area being too small and thus feeling crowded.
Good gym overall:
1. Usually busy, but I can always find a free treadmill.
2. Clean, as far as gyms are concerned. They also have cleaning stations w/ paper towels and spray if you are feeling so inclined.
3. Environment is conducive to working out...get in, workout, get out.
4. Haven't experienced any of the classes, but they never seem to be overly crowded.
5. I like the fact that you can go to any Gold's; you're not stuck paying more for a multi gym membership. I live by the one in Campbell and work by the one off of Monterey Rd.; so it's very convenient.
6. Far better than 24 Hr Fitness in every way.
I love Gold's gym!! I used to belong to 24 Fitness and then I tried out Bally's and now I am at Gold's. Ok, I have Bally's too but that's so I can workout with my husband when I feel like it.
You go to Gold's to workout and then you're done. I love the variety of equipment and free weights. I used to go to the one on Monterey Rd. and I liked the spaciousness of that one but I can find anything I need at the Campbell location.
I liked Gold's overall. It was a good gym with everything in good working order.
The locker rooms were clean. It did not have extra amenities like towel service, or a sauna or steam room.
The cardio machines didn't have TVs attached, but the room did have sanitary wipes to clean off the equipment afterward. The room was extremely well ventilated.
The weight room was well stocked, but I didn't see trainers around helping people to use it. I was told by sales staff that external trainers were permitted on the gym floor, and that that was something unique to Gold's.
I was left with the impression that Gold's wasn't trying to be anything other than a gym, and that it probably does that, provided the member knows what he or she is doing.
This is one of the better gym's of the McCall fitness ownership group of Gold's gyms in the south bay. The cardio equipment is much better than the Gold's in Mountain View but not as good as Gold's in Santa Clara. Campbell and Mountain View have my favorite tricep press, whereas Santa Clara had it but replaced it with a crappy new one. One of things I like about all the Gold's in the south bay is that they have the best equipment compared to many other chain gyms, even compared to more expensive ones like Club One.. Some of the south bay Golds equipment is older and a little worn, but it still beats the hell out of the new junk equipment you might find at most 24 Hour Fitness gyms. The older pieces are sometimes the best stuff around. Gold's in Campbell has is a little bit newer and nicer gym than some of the other Golds, but they are all good.
This gym has exactly what you need to get in shape. 95% of the people in there are working out. The remaining 5% of slackers? you find those at any gym. The dumbbells are sturdy(wont fall apart and bust your head open), the machines are well maintained, many options for fitness classes. Cardio is upstairs with an effective circuit training setup also. Downstairs is where you find the weights, machines, etc. Also, there is a great front desk staff if you have questions. Plenty of parking. It's only hard to find parking if you want to park close to the entrance. This is a gym so dont be lazy when parking. Start warming your body up while walking from the further parking spots. Think about it!
I love Gold's no nonsense, get in, workout, leave. No scene, no clowns yapping on their phone while their "working out". Solid selection of cardio upstairs, and good layout of free weights and machines downstairs. Plenty of parking too.

This gym has a great layout. All the weight machines and free weights are on the first floor. All the cardio equipment and classes are on the 2nd floor, except for spinning which is in a separate space on the first floor. There is also a great circuit training area on the 2nd floor.

Ah, Gold's Gym. I haven't been to any of the other Gold's locations yet, but I have only positive things to say about the equipment and experience here. The place is pretty packed with equipment, with a lot of machines for obscure exercises most people don't even know exist. And there are multiples of most machines, and tons of cardio machines upstairs. It's rare I come to Gold's and find it so packed I can't actually use the particular machine I want.
In regards to the other members, well, every other person I've met at Gold's has been super nice. It feels like a community even though nobody really socializes, which I also appreciated. People are there to work out, not blab to each other about the latest pop music or soap opera. I think the fact that almost every square foot is taken up by machines really helps prevent people from standing around and loitering. And if you need help, even the huge muscle bound guys are willing to oblige if you need a lever loosened on a machine or something. I think the gym attracts more down to earth folks.
The place is pretty well maintained and I never see any trash about. The machines are generally clean, and folks are usually considerate about replacing weights. Items that get damaged, such as the pads on a arm curl machine, are quickly replaced by the owners. The ability to visit any of like five or so other Gold's Gyms in the area for free is also a really nice benefit. Apparently they're all owned by the same franchisee.
I only have a couple complaints, and they might not even be applicable for most folks.
The first is that the hours on the weekend are pretty short. They close at 10PM on Fridays, and 9PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Sometimes I want to work out later but can't make it in time. It also seems like whenever a holiday comes up, they cut the hours by way too much. You'll often find that they'll close at 3PM on a vague holiday, like President's Day, and also close early on the days before and after it. It can be annoying to show up at the gym, ready for a work out, and find they closed two hours ago. The hours are the only reason I could think of to go to another gym with the same type of facilities.
It would also be nice if they had staff members on the floor that could help explain the equipment. I asked a guy working the desk one time if he could show me how to use a machine, and he either said he didn't know, or that he wasn't allowed to instruct me for insurance reasons.
The trainers they work with also seem pretty nice, but if you only buy just one or two training sessions from the gym to get started, don't tell the trainers that when you leave a voice mail to get in touch with them. They'll just ignore you because they figure it isn't worth their time. I can't recommend Shirley Gubatan enough, though. She was a great trainer.
You come here to workout. Go to 24hr fitness to gawk and slack around. Most people respect the rules set in place, by stacking away weights back and returning dumbbells. That's hard to say about the other gyms.
