Now this is the closest mini golf course that I have ever seen to simulate those crazy courses you see in the movies.  There was a loop de loop, there was a castle, there was a wind mill, there was everything!

There are two courses to choose from and both are decked out with cool holes to test your putting skills.  You pay $8.50 a person for a one-way ticket down one of the two 18-hole courses.  (On Monday it's two for one, yes that's $8.50 for 2 people - WHAT A STEAL!)  I went on a weekend, so of course it was crowded.  It took me and boyfriend about 1-1.5 hours to complete the entire course.

Overall, we had a good ol' time.  This is a great spot for a date or some family fun.

This cute little mini golf park is a blast on mondays when you've got nothing else to do. Why monday? Cause it's two for one date night baby! $8.50 for two is hard to beat, even in this recession, and makes mini golfing here the perfect night for penny pinchers.

The course itself is divided into two - one difficult and one easy. Both courses are very cute and the more difficult one has pagottas, skeetball, water towers, rivers, logs, haunted houses, windmills, volcanoes and other type themes. The easier one has a disneyland magical kingdom type theme in it. The volcano one is really difficult for most people and I've had some friends who've needed some anger management from playing it. Once you get the trick, it's easy tho :-).

They also have an arcade and collection of ticket games. It's a small selection, but what they do have matches well - especially for the small space they have to work with. The staff is pretty friendly and reminds me of the people who work the carnival in the movie "Adventureland," or have to get drunk or dope up on some barbiturates to get through the working day.

By far the CLEANEST mini-golf place I've ever been! The arcade is really well-kept (a tad small imo; not a large variety of games..IE: you can't have a true arcade without The Simpson game..!), and I love how they go all out and decorate during the holiday (Halloween in particular). Kids under 11 years old get a free pumpkin from the pumpkin patch. So cute!

So, came here for the Monday night Family special: 2 for 1! ($8.50 for 2 games!). 6-11pm. Love that!

There were two courses to choose from, and we opted for the one with the pagoda (bc it looks more challenging). The course was really clean with a good variety of layouts ranging from little random house things, streams to cross, circular ramp things, volcano like lifts and dips, etc. Best part was that there weren't a whole lotta people, so we never had to wait and could play at our leisure. Personally, I found the course challenging...but mayhaps that's because my skills at mini-golfin aren't up to "par". (Haha...).

Woulda been even cooler if it had the usual go-carts and batting cages, and music in the background like other typical mini-golf places, but for what it does offer, it's pretty worth the value and a Monday night out!

This is the best mini golf place I have ever been too. Coupons in the penny saver get you buy one get one free rounds or 4 for 17.50. This place has the best hole designs. Where else do you get to play skeet ball and hit it of ramps 2 feet over water? My GF and I had a great time and will definitely be back again...maybe with some friends. Havn't checked out the arcade, but 140 tokens for 20 bucks is a good price to try it at least once.

So, you get five stars automatically because you're the only one I know of!

I made it a point to play put-put in Houston every once in a while. After living in the ole Bay for a few years now, I was pretty bummed there was no mini-golf I knew of.

In comes Golfland! SO much fun. I guess we popped in at a decent time, because we didn't have to deal with too many CV families of 5+ kids. I laughed my ass off at how horribly bad I am @ this game, but it was so much fun.

Oh, and there's arcade games, if yer into that. ;)

It's is such a fun place!  It it great for all ages.  You can play golf at night or during the day.

I have always been a fan of Pee-wee golf and love to hit a new spot whenever I find one.  Even better, I love that I can walk to this one from my house.

I went there with my friend and it was cool. I like the balance of easy and hard or impossible courses over there. Including the volcano that is impossible. I putt it softly it doesn't make it, or if I swing it it doesn't make it so me & my friend decided to skip it after a frustration.

This place is a good choice if you want to clear your mind up from stress.

Any course where I can routinely rack up eagles and double eagles is all right by me.

Minus one star for some of the déclassé clientele that one expects to find in such a place.

Wait a minute, is it fair to take away a star for finding something that one expects to find?

Okay, minus one star for being too far away from where I live.

Wait a minute, do I want to live closer to a place that attracts déclassé clientele?

Hmmm.  I'm going to have to think about this.  Let me read up on my Hegel and Schopenhauer and I'll get back to y'all.

In the meantime, don't do anything I wouldn't do.

I like this place and have always enjoyed myself whenever I come to visit, but I always forget that this is a great place to come and chill for a low key night with good friends for some good times.

Not much else to say, except for it's good that there is on like this close by.

today i got out golfland for a nice 18 holes and it was once again a fantastic day. they have always kept the place looking so well kept and in top shape. the only thing i noticed was the worn down ball mats. it seems everyone loves to place their ball in the center because the left and right were in awesome shape. it's really great to see that this place has been around so long because it's truly a family favorite. today i went around noon and we were the only ones playing for most of the time. since i was little back side has always been the best side and i'm happy to say it's still just as fun as i remember. take my advice and play the far right side.

of course i did very well and even shot two hole in ones . i'm not talking about the easy holes but those crazy lucky holes. the best was the 3rd hole with that crazy metal spiral thing you need to get it up and through. it went around the loop hit the wall and went right in the hole. i actually let out a pretty loud roar and got the attention of the guys working on the street. it would have been my best round ever if i didn't have a couple of meltdowns and ending up with some disappointing 7's.

i will always love this place and i look forward to taking my kids here sometime in the future.

HOLE IN ONE ON THIS DARN THING! WOW! :)

Only reviewing the arcade.
The arcade at Castro Valley Golfland (CVGL) is VERY small.  I like how they have DDR SuperNOVA 2, Guitar Freaks and Drummania V4 (sessioned), Initial D 4, and Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 3 (4 linked machines!).

I used to come here a lot because I was into playing DDR.  The location was very convenient because it was close where I worked and where I attended college.

The last time I went here, the clientele became ghetto, when it comes to playing WMMT3.  When I place my card on a machine to put my place in line to play, they don't observe that rule, they continue to put their tokens in and I had to intervene to get my turn.

What makes up for the "ghetto" clientele the good employees that work there.  They know that you're a regular there.  They would greet you once you enter.

Haven't been mini-golfing in YEARS!
Forgot how much fun it was.
Forgot how much I suck!

This is a great course!  Its $8.50 for 18 holes, and when given the option for $11.50 for 36 holes, we assumed that it meant do the same course twice....boy were we wrong.  I guess that means that the last 18 holes will have to be played another time...another date...maybe this time with a date?? (wink wink)  They got it all!  Castles, holes that look like ski-ball games, volcanoes, water, long ones, short ones, and because it was chilly out, there wasn't an over abundance of kidlets out that day either.  Castro Valley...kind of far-ish...but worth it with the right people, or person? (wink wink)

Pimple-faced boys run the joint, and hang out in the arcade all day, and I imagine if you were to come here on an evening, it would be filled with first dates, first kisses and a lot of "assistance" on the golf course.

Did I mention that they have an arcade too?  I played some Deal or No Deal (arcade form for tickets) and watched some dork play this Guitar Hero type game with a drum kit.  Seriously....on Expert Level, I'm pretty sure he had the shit memorized, cuz he was insane.  The tickets cant really buy you good stuff....except...if you play long enough...you can get a Wii for 39,000 tickets.  I just bought a gummy pizza for 30.  Figured there was no sense in saving up.

I took my family here for a weekday excursion during a summer
week off.

There are two mini golf courses, both of which are nicely
maintained, i.e. no large divots in the astroturf, and no worn
paint on the castle, dragon, pagoda, etc.

Prices are reasonable and the staff is nice.  On a hot day,
make sure to pack your own drinks, unless you want to pay
$2 for a bottle of soda out of the vending machines.

The arcade in there was different from what I expected,
having read the other reviews.  The only 'classic' game
was Ms. Pac Man.  Everything else was your more modern
day racing/fighting video game, or a lose-your-tokens-fast
sort of mechanical chance game.  There's also skee ball.

For certain games, you can earn tickets, but don't get
excited, because 20 tickets will get you an entire single
green foil-wrapped Andes wafer mint.  Zowie!

Can't wait for the "3rd Annual Putting Tournament!"

Last year Putting Tournament (held at Sunnyvale-Golfland) was really fun and exciting, and I really couldn't believe that I won that tournament. There were about "70" of us Putters left on the final tournament, and each of us has to play two rounds (18 holes each round). After my 1st round, I was only able to score 42 which is not really good, coz some Putters they scored less than 40, and one person even scored 33. So after the 1st round (I  think I was on the top 30), I was really far behind from grabbing the 6th place at least.

Then the 2nd round comes, when all hope seems to fade away, then suddenly, luck turns into my side. I was able to sunk 7 holes-in-one, hitting the daunting volcano with just one stroke, and then I end up scoring only "31" on this round.

I was speechless for a while after finishing my 2nd round. My 31 score spread quickly to some Putters, and I could hear them from a distance saying, "Are you sure he scored 31?" My friends (also joined the tournament) couldn't believe it and neither do I.

After receiving the award and talking to the other 5 winners, I realized that what really helped me grabbed the 1st place was when I luckily perfected the two daunting volcanoes (one volcano on each round - East & West) by sinking only 1 stroke on each. They said they also have bunch of hole-in-one, but the daunting volcano is what really messed up their scores.

1st Annual Putting Tournament which was held at Milpitas-Golfland two years ago was also fun and exciting. Well on my part, I played really bad on this tournament. I scored about 50 on my 1st round, and then about 50 again on my 2nd round, and on the final standing, I think I was about #40. What's really remarkable about this tournament is that there were bunch of intermediate and professional golfers joined this tourney (about 30-60 years old), and the surprising was, it was a "13 yr. old kid" who grabbed the 1st place. Yes, a 13 yr. old kid whoop us all!

I really like and enjoy putting, and I really look forward to this upcoming 3rd Annual Putting Tournament. Hope to see you all there!!!

This review is based on multiple visits here with an emphasis on last night.

Ok...to be truthful, my previous visits to golfland were years ago - many years ago.  This place has been around forever!

The SO & I took our nephew for a round of miniature golf and played some games in the small arcade for a little while afterward.  The grounds, while antiquated, were well maintained considering the age of this place.  Our round of golf was fun - I think it helped that we weren't keeping score.  (Each of us, however, did manage to get a hole in one - my SO on the 1st hole!)

The arcade was just ok.  The video games took multiple tokens for the most part (sorry, I remember 1 token games of Asteroids, Space Invaders, etc.) and the games that are played to try to win prizes - of course - are a rip-off!  The have skeet-ball and a few other games that generate tickets based on your score.  When it's time to go, you put all your tickets into a machine that counts them up and prints out a receipt which you take to the cashier to claim your prizes.  Our 66 tickets were rounded up to 70 and the nephew elected to get 3 of those chocolate "coins" at 20 tickets a pop.  The cashier generously gave him 4 instead of 3 (a 80 ticket value for just 66 tickets!!!).  Whoopee.

In the arcade, we had the most fun with the air hockey and, while not very challenging, playing a round of mini-golf with our young nephew was fun.  This place is kind of like an institution in CV.  If it continues it's long life here, I'll probably be back at some point - but I'm in no real hurry.

Here there be dragons.

Also, if you're looking for a great place to bring your sweet lady, take her here.  But first, tell her, "I'm going to whisk you away on an amazing trip tonight...first, we'll stop by a castle.  Then, it's off to Hong Kong.  Then, to a rural log cabin.  Then, uhm, how about a Dutch looking place?  Then a pond with a boat...all of this in  a land of gold...Golden Tees."

If she is still with you after that lame joke, hold onto her!

Overall, this place has been really good to me and my friends over the years.  Nice people, clean place, good video games.

Anyway they have a great arcade and two great courses. And a little party area you can rent out for your birthday. Good times.

I agree that I like the upper course more too!  It has more holes that involve water which makes you believe it's more challenging.  I remember them doing some significant remodeling in the last decade which has made it look a lot better.  Each 18 hole course per adult costs $8.50 but you can often find "buy 1 get 1 free" coupons in the Penny Saver!

The holes aren't that difficult and some are actually very repetitive.  But it's fun nonetheless.  Your experience can turn unpleasant if the place is crowded because you'll end up waiting for the next hole.  There was a backup at hole 10 & 11 so the bf & I just skipped those, went straight to hole #12, finished up the rest of the course & went back to the ones we missed.

BEWARE: there are a lot of high schoolers here but they're playing arcades most of the time.  I remember when DDR first got here... everyone came to show off their skills.

I've been bringing my niece and nephew here for the past several years when they visit in the summers. It's what it is. I'm not a big fan of it. But seems most of the time the place is well kept. A bit outdated but still alright. Sometimes the moving structures need upkeep.

The room with the video games is small and very very LOUD! There is a nice area with picnic tables where I suppose small parties can be held at. We usually take advantage of this and bring lunches and eat when we our games. There is a vending machine on the property.

I used to stop by here when I was in college...  it was a good stopover on the way home from CSUH back to berkeley/alameda or wherever I was headed.

No.. I didn't go for the minature golf... I went there for the video games.. I think it was open ice or something like the ice hockey version of NBA Jam.

But.. I only went during the day... at night.. it was a bit sketchy.

Today i decided to get drunk, play minature golf, get my car tuned up,look for auto insurance quotes online, write a letter to the x,marinate a flank steak for dinner and harass Adrienne at work with stumbleupon.Well, as fate would have it i only ended up getting drunk and sitting in the golfland parking lot with my friends.I got/am pretty hammered and didn't feel like getting out of the car.The parking lot is quite roomy with many nooks and crannys to secretly puke away from laughing friends, and curious police/security.From what i can vaguely recall the place hasn't changed in 20 years ,, many different races, people from all economic backgrounds all sharing a love of mini golf. I advise you to go here sober, i promise you'll have more fun. Just ignore that drunken asshole puking his guts all over your shiny rims.

Today is Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday and we got the day off.  Woo Hoo...I guess that one of the perks of working in finance, getting obscure holidays off.  The hubby and I decide to take the kids miniature golfing, and since I haven't been to Golfland in Castro Valley since college, we end up here.  Two kids, two adults...$32.00.  We take the "Enchanted Journey" course.  There are 18 holes, and if you hit a hole in one on the 19th hole you get a free game.  Needless to say we did not hit that hole in one on the 19th hole.  Oh well...we had fun anyway.  I was very impressed with the clean, well maintained grounds and plentiful parking.  We felt a little rushed my the family behind us, but all-in-all it was a lovely time.

This review is of the arcade only.
The arcade has very few games, a little pricey for what you can get elsewhere. The elderly gentlemen behind the counter is very accommodating and friendly. Games are up to date which is great, but there's only a limited selection. Arcades are close together so there's a lot of sound action going on once the arcade games get going.
This is a pretty sweet escape for me because I don't like crowds and I've never seen this place "crowded".

The games here are great and up to date.  The crowd here is better than that at Milpitas Golfland, because it's more of a family environment here.  A few ghetto folk show up here, but they're only here to have a good time, not looking for trouble.  Not too crowded here either.

great holes. when you enter and get your club, TAKE A RIGHT TURN, not a left. you'll have a definitively better time. try not to come during peak hours (evenings) so you won't be rushed or have to let people putt through. and don't come in odd number-parties, there's some sort of deal for couples

good to note: they're letting people in until 9 and close at 10. this is a fun evening activity

I grew up at this place. I never realized how small and ghetto it was, but even now that doesn't matter. We always played on the upper course because it was more challenging and only the "little kids" played on the lower course. It was all fun though. If I still lived in the area I'm sure I'd take my kids.
