I'm writing this as my stomach is about to explode from eating too much of Golden Lotus' tasty cuisine. One thing I've noticed about Boulder is that it doesn't have a great selection of asian food (unless you want sushi...in which case, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from).
Golden Lotus has always been a constant. It's not the most amazing Chinese food I've ever had (my mother's cooking cannot be beat), but it's consistently good and satisfying.
They deliver (a HUGE plus because I don't own a car) and that's what landed their phone number on my speed dial. The delivery time is usually between 35-45 minutes, so order before you're hungry or else you'll be starving by the time the food arrives.
(-1) star simply because it's not the best Chinese food, but it's pretty darn good... :)

I need to preface this by saying that I've always had a good meal here and usually the service has been satisfactory. And the Golden Lotus has got a delicious General Tso's chicken.
That said, my last experience there was kind of disturbing. Our server was obviously new (dear god, I hope she was new and not naturally this inept) and really didn't have a grasp of the menu. One of the four of us were vegetarian, and she had a hell of a time getting clear answers from the waitress as to what was meatless on the menu.
We eventually had to decipher the menu for ourselves. When the food finally arrived, we had a sit-com moment that we never imagined would happen in real life--she gave all of us the wrong plate of food, so once she walked away we had to trade plates. Not a big deal for the most part, but in the case of my friend who is vegetarian potentially a very big deal.
Now, all this was slightly annoying, but more comical than anything else. I've waited tables for a number of years, and we were there to have a good time. So, nobody complained and we went about enjoying our meals and though it was unspoken we were all likely to leave a good tip. She was trying, after all, and the mistakes were honest.
However, realizing she had screwed the pooch thus far with our orders, the server decided she would try and save her tip by being charming. So, after our food had been delivered (and traded to its rightful owner!) she comes back to our table and tries to strike up a conversation about An Inconvenient Truth. We humored her briefly and returned to our conversation (it's worth noting that we weren't eating quietly at the time; we were in the middle of a conversation that she had to blatantly interrupt to strike up this conversation), but she wouldn't leave and literally hovered over our table. We would go quiet and resume eating and rather than taking the cue to leave she would fill the awkward silence to stay and talk. THAT, and not the bad service, is why she got a crappy tip.

Golden Lotus has a fond place in my heart.
A few summers ago I was unemployed, as was one of my best friends and roommates. Well, both vegetarians, we loved the tofu soup at this joint more than 99.99% of things in this world, so we went here often. They also have some killer vegetarian chicken, which tastes better than reg. chicken (so say my meat-eating friends). They also give green tea ice cream for free at the end of the meal. I like this place enough to have my graduation meal here even, and the place is definitely big enough to house 15+ parties.
Solid Chinese food: 4. Prices and somewhat slow service just keep it out of 5 zone.
Anyway, back to the summer of 05: is it strange when two dudes go out often to restaurants together when both are girlfriend-less and hate to cook? No....but (heterosexual)John sure did like wearing his gay pride shirt a lot, let me tell you. And as such, I suppose we were referred to and thought of as that surprisingly hetero, poker playing, gay couple who loved tofu soup. The looks we got when we asked for tables for two....hmm..
It's alright. I was not that impressed with the food and rather it was the atmosphere that had me reving. Very nice! Like, waterfalls actually trickling and stuff. And me, and my roommate Sarah (before we became roomettes and accordingly began to hate one another). So, in a nutshell, The Golden Lotus has its perks.
Suprisingly decent for your typical Chinese-American fare. The building facade makes it look worse than it is on the inside. Too many orangey, mandarin inspired dishes for me to eat on a regular basis.
Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Boulder, the Tangerine Chicken is extremely addictive, as is the Chow Fun. The atmosphere is very nice, with linen tablecloths, classical music, and nice colors. The tea is good and service is decent. Good value overall.
Good quality, fast, inexpensive Chinese food. Nothing too special, but solid in every way.
