I ordered delivery from here a few times. I've had horrible experiences with delivery overall since moving to SF, and this was one of the bright spots.
The General Tso's chicken is excellent and there's so much of it I always have leftovers. Whenever it arrives it's really hot and crispy. I've never gotten crispy delivery from Chinese food delivery ever, so that alone is really great. It's also one of the very, very, few places I've encountered that can actually deliver hot food to my apartment for some reason. I have no idea why that is, it's in the middle of the city and not hard to get to. The delivery guy was always super nice and friendly, too. My only gripe about this place is that I wish their minimum delivery price was lower - I can't meet the minimum by myself. -

No frills Chinese food, easy to order your delivery online with Eat24 website, my order estimate time was 45 minutes but the food arrived in less than 30 minutes. I have not visited the restaurant but I will definitely order delivery again.
Worst name ever for a restaurant, Golden Kim Tar sounds like a rare Amazonian monkey species or a disease. -

Simple version: Ordered for delivery, the food arrived an hour late and nearly cold. Rude phone service. The salt and pepper calamari was adequate but also greasier than I've had elsewhere.
Long version: Filling in the blanks here from the simple version, I decided to order lunch for myself and my flu-stricken boyfriend at around 10:30a before his 1p work shift. Hopped onto GrubHub and selected Golden Kim Tar based on its being recommended by fellow users of the site, as well as by users here. Ordered the salt and pepper calamari, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, won ton soup, and a small side of white rice to go along with some brown rice I had yet to prepare. Done and done by 10:50a, with an email order confirmation stating an estimated arrival time of 11:35a. Perfect, more than enough time to have a meal before having to send off the working man.
11:40 comes around and no food, so I decided to call the restaurant to ensure delivery was imminent. I suppose rude isn't quite the correct word to employ here, though the call did end abruptly after she hung up on me. Maybe the right word would be... unprofessional? That's rather harsh, but the exchange went something like:
Me: I ordered four dishes online that have yet to arrive, I just want to confirm they're on the way.
Her: Yes, give it, like, 15 or 20 minutes.
Me: 15 or 20 minutes? I ordered the food nearly an hour ago.
Her: No no, the food is already on the way there, I said 15 to 20 minutes so you wouldn't get angry.
Me: Sorry? Um, so it'll be here very soon, right?
Her: Yes, it's on its way *click*
Something about that rubbed me the wrong way, and I waited for the food impatiently pacing, and maybe fuming. Given this, maybe I wasn't in the proper state to be judging their menu, especially since it was my first time experiencing theirs and it was food delivered. I will say that the food did arrive but not until 12:05p and that the rice was dry and cool, and the calamari was barely adequate and also cool. The Chinese broccoli was tasty, but I've hardly ever experienced a bad iteration of the dish. All of the dishes sat atop paper doilies that separated it from shredded lettuce, which was considerate but also a little odd. Nothing that screamed either authenticity or any consideration for aesthetics, though, again, this is a delivery order.
I'd only go back for Golden Kim Tar if I were going to be eating at the restaurant itself, but don't imagine wanting to with other places like Tú Lan or even Thèm Ky around in relative proximity. -
Review from Rohan D.
The rice is really really bad.... Like it makes the rest of the food pretty terrible. The appetizers are subar at best.
Honestly, except for some tangy sauce they added to my rice, the rest of the food was pretty crappy. The company ordered in and nobody seemed to like anything. -

I have been ordering from Golden Kim Tar since I moved into the Mission and discovered http://Eat24hours.com. They are absolutely accommodating on my orders whenever I ask for a vegetarian alternative to items that are listed with only meat/poultry options. For instance, I love the Thai Curry Noodle dish that is listed on the menu with chicken. With my need to know where my meat, poultry and fish come from, I assume that there is just no way that they could make the dish that they do at the price they do unless their meat is from indutrial farms, so I usually opt for a "vegetarian" option, that is not listed. When I make the request, they create a lovely alternative vegge dish. So, I thank them for that. Their food has the right amount of spice and quite flavorful.

I normally don't give 5 stars for solely great service, but this is a tale that deserves to be told and warrants 5 stars simply because of how unbelievable it sounds.
My roommate and I stopped by here one day after work, initially under the assumption that we were at Burmese Kitchen, the restaurant next door we saw the previous day and wanted to try. It turned out that wasn't the case, but it was a little too late to change our minds as the lady manning the cashier ushered us in and showed us to our table.
When she came to take our order, my roommate decided (I'm still not sure whether it was out of ignorance or a fervent desire for the extraordinary) on a whim that he wanted Burmese food, and so he asked if they serve this famous Burmese noodle soup.
The lady went inside the kitchen to consult with the chef, who actually came out and asked my roommate how the dish was prepared. Ten minutes later he came out with what looked to be a Burmese dish and said, "Give it a try, see if you like it." What kind of altruistic, people-pleasing chef is this? Do they even exist?
Rubbing my eyes, I tried the dish with my roommate and it was a damn good imitation of the real dish (which I found out the day after when we actually went to Burmese Kitchen). My roommate agreed.
When the check came, it was only for my meal, a rice plate that was pretty darn good as well. We asked the lady why we weren't charged for the Burmese noodle soup, and the chef came out and said, "Well, it wasn't on the menu, and I wasn't sure if you'll like it, so no charge. Just come back next time and I'll make something else for you."
I was in awe of the display of kindness and business ethics this guy has shown us. We left a $12 tip and became a regular at this restaurant ever since, partly because the Chinese food here is authentic and quick, and also partly because the chef has restored my faith in humanity. -
Review from Ed U.
You know how you always need a dependable go-to Chinese place for pick-up because you never know when you really need to down some sloppy noodles and garlic chicken late at night? Well, this one isn't mine, but I guess it could be if I lived closer to the Tenderloin. Jamie W. and I were starving after a marathon community awards ceremony at which he was the recipient of four well-deserved citations, so afterward, we braved walking down Turk Street close to 9PM to grab something to eat here. No surprise that it was nearly empty with only one other customer in the place slurping some soup quite loudly.
It's bland stuff they serve here. It doesn't offend, it doesn't thrill. It's just the type of Chinese food you eat and promptly forget an hour later. But I'll try to explore the bowels of my subconscious and remember what we ordered. Oh yes, we had the $5.95 Fried Chicken Wings, pretty good value (you get eight...but who's counting) yet nowhere near as good as the ones at Capitol in Chinatown and strangely piled on a bed of fried noodles as if there wasn't enough grease on that plate (see photo). Next up was the $8.25 Mongolian Beef, which was overtaken by onions and lacquered in an inexplicable brown sauce (see photo).
Speaking of which, the brown sauce showed up again in the $7.25 plate of Sauteed String Beans (see photo), which really tasted like the vegetarian twin of the Mongolian Beef. But hey, how picky can you get near 10PM on a weeknight? The woman serving us frankly couldn't be more attentive, and the food came out in record time when we just wanted to wolf and bail. It's also a semi-scary part of town, so you don't want to be loitering too much later anyway. But Golden Kim Tar is what it is, so give the place credit for being no less.
FOOD - 3 stars...lots of brown sauce here, but I can still eat it
AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...well, there are plenty of tables at this hour
SERVICE - 4 stars...she was always ready to serve us
TOTAL - 3 stars...when you need a go-to place to go to...late in the evening -

Good chinese food for a reasonable price!
we had crispy chicken, Han-nan beef, and pork fried rice for two.
Crispy chicken was just a little over cooked.
There is no sesame chicken here, which I was the most wanted to eat :-( -

This is probably the most mediocre american style chinese food I have ever had. Panda Express is gourmet compared to this place. I ordered crab cheese wontons, Generals chicken, mongolian beef, and schezwan style egglplant.
The Wontons were not crispy, and in fact were quite rubbery. The Generals chicken had more breading than chicken and was not very flavorful, the mongolian beef was grey in appearance and mushy in texture (to the point where I wonder if its not beef), and the egglplant dish smelled like body odor. Pretty gross. The only redeeming item was a free hot/sour soup wthat was actually very delicious.
I will not be ordering from here again. -

Best Chinese food I've found in the Loin by far!! I've been coming to this place and ordering delivery for years. Fast service, fast delivery. Wish they delivered after 9:30pm though. We always order through http://eat24hours.com.
After working in Chinatown for 6 years I don't have high expectations from any Chinese restaurant in San Francisco but this one definitely stands out for very solid, tasty food. Plus the people who run it are so really nice and actually smile at you! And they have deals...like order $20 worth of food and they throw in free egg rolls. Not the tiny egg rolls, 3 very good sized crispy egg rolls! If you order $30 or $50 worth, the free swag gets better.
The lunch specials, however, are the greatest deal here. For around $8 including tax and tip, you get a pot of tea, soup, a rice plate with many choices of entree (or if you ask very nicely for something else not included on the lunch menu they will usually do it for you for a little more $) AND the obligatory fortune cookie and orange wedge.
Every time they are closed and I order from somewhere else in the 'hood I'm always disappointed by the comparison. Favorites are General Tsao's Chicken, Egg Flower Soup, Ma Po Tofu with Pork, Salt & Pepper String Beans with Tofu, Beef & Black Bean Sauce Chow Fun (order extra sauce tho...) and Yang Chow Fried Rice.Listed in: The TenderNob...My…

1. Good Chinese food.
2. Review of delivery from Golden Kim Tar.
3. Easy to order via http://Grubhub.com.
4. Mongolian Beef has a nice spice sauce. The veggies were fresh and cooked just right. They still had that little crisp snap I like. The beef was tender. The portion was very generous.
http://tinyurl.com/4tn...
5. General Tsao's Chicken - It was not quite as spicy as a I like it. It was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. It was still pretty good. I do wish restaurants would have it in their description for Tsao's Chicken if it is going to be on a bed of broccoli. Over the years, I could have fed a small village with the broccoli that I've thrown away from General Tsao's Chicken.
6. Very low minimum order for delivery ($10).
7. Delivery was very fast, prompt, and polite.
8. The order was neatly packed.
9. My fortune was "You will do well to expand your horizons".
10. And if you are playing the lottery, the lucky numbers were:

DELICIOUS... and come on... not only was street parking EASY and FREE on a FRIDAY night, but the street was well populated so no dark alleyway issues!
The food was better than expected and the prices were AMAZING! We were a group of 7 women, some had beer with dinner and out bill came to only $70 and change! Stacy was very helpful, had a great sense of humor and well spoken. The General Chicken was delicious and all the dishes were nicely prepared, meet was tender, enough sauce for flavor and just enough so the veggies stayed tender without getting mushy and the crunchy ingredients were actually still crunchy! The hot tea was lovely, it had a beautiful soft floral scent and a nice taste.
I am going back again with my girl friends cause you cannot beat the food or the price! -

As a visitor to San Francisco, I used Yelp to find a good chinese restaurant with delivery. Well, I was not steered wrong! The delivery took about 30 minutes and the food arrived hot and in perfect condition.
The vegteable egg rolls were crispy on the outside and delicious on the inside. The chicken fried rice was loaded with chicken and had great flavor.
I ordered the mongolian beef "medium hot" and guess what? They nailed it - not too hot and not too mild. I am here three nights and I will probably order from here again.

I had read some good reviews about Golden Kim Tar and figured I'd give em a shot for delivery. Overall, I was very satisfied!
We ordered the Sizzling Rice Soup, Mongolian Beef, Potstickers and brown rice. The soup was seasoned well and gave the chicken and veggies a nice kick without overpowering their natural flavors- I hate when places completely disguise the taste of what I'm eating! Same for the Mongolian Beef- it wasn't soaked in sauce and was really good! Beware though, if you're not an onion fan you're in for a plate full of onions when you order the Mongolian Beef here... Luckily, I am, so kudos to you Golden Kim Tar! I probably would have been better off not ordering the potstickers though... These are baked here instead of fried and has a really soft rubbery texture to the outside of em- it just didn't work for me... everything else was fantastic though and I'll definitely have to try Golden Kim Tar again! -

Every affordable Chinese restaurant I've eaten in my life had the same run of the mill, greasy taste- so much so that I stopped eating in these places for good. That's until my co-worker took me to this place for lunch.
Good good tasty food! I was seriously surprised! Delicious and well made.
Check out the place, you won't be disappointed. -
Review from Jason B.
I initially wasn't feeling it, especially when the lady taking my order kept repeating "so you want no flavor" in response to my request for the shrimp and mango dish to be steamed. Sometimes the tone is a welcome confirmation, other times, like today, it's borderline mocking. I wasn't amused.
The price was also a bit steep. $10 is higher than most, and it was going to take a pretty generous serving to save this from a lukewarm two star yelp.
But all the negativity was soon swept away. My food came steamed (fine, mock me as long as you'll do it), there were some unexpected veggies mixed in, the cost included some rice that went to someone in need down the street, and the portion was almost enough for two meals.
Two stars leapfrogged three to become four. I'm totally a fan. -

I've had food from here on two different occasions. Both of them inappropriate. Just kidding!
The first time I was here, I wanted something soup-like, but I didn't want to dine-in which is the only way to enjoy pho. That meant I couldn't eat at half of the places within a 2 block radius. And I didn't want a sandwich. That left only chinese food. I've been wary about chinese food because I'm chinese. And most Americanized chinese places are equivalent to mom-and-pop greasy spoons. It's not exactly what mother used to make.
When I came in, I started scoping out what everyone else was eating. The thing that looked oh-so-tasty and lip-smacking delicious was the soups. Wonton soups. Some had seafood, some did not. I wanted some clear broth with that nice aromatic quality, no MSG and some plump juicy wontons.
Luckily, on the specials board (I wonder if the specials ever change?), there was a writing on the wall: Combination war wonton soup. $5.99. Why the heck not? 10 mins later and $6.50 later, I had in a plastic container some beautiful looking wontons in clear but robust sauce. I hurried back to the office, threw my stuff all over Tyron's desk and started killing the wontons. The sliced meat/shrimp in the broth was delicate. More delicate than the mongolian beef i just ate from this place. The wontons were generous and the skin was just the right thickness. Noodle-like but not doughy.
Today, I ordered the mongolian beef. It was spicy! It had a lot of beef, and sugar. I think it was too sweet, and the beef was not as tender as in the soup. But they sure gave me a whole lot of it! I'll be eating that for lunch for the next few days, that's for sure.
In the future, I'll stick with the wonton soup. There was also enough to last two meals. And I really love soup. -

Good food. I wanted the lunch beef chow fun but even though it was listed under the heading ("served with soup AND rice"), the guy told me no rice comes with the chow fun (I wanted white rice, too, but he was having none of it). Oh, well. I wanted rice so I went with garlic chicken. Good sized portions, not very spicy (probably medium spiciness), cheap ($6 before tip for my meal and hot tea), and very fast service. I'll be back.

I don't usually come to these places, because they seem forgettable. But, I was in a late-night pinch (9pm-ish) and so just ordered their daily special, string beans and chicken. I mean, standard Chinese take-out fare, but it was quite good! In particular, I really liked the rice - perfect texture, and absorbed the sauce perfectly.

I love me some Golden Kim Tar. It's one of my favorite food spots in the Loin. The service is pretty poor. The ambiance is non-existent. Wearing flip-flops on Larkin may or may not lead to stepping on a discarded needle. And if you ask about Dr. Pepper, they think you want extra pepper (Yes, this really happened. And yes, I cried like a girl when I ate my lunch.) But here's where the magic is made...

I visited here one hungover afternoon. After ordering the Beef Stew egg noodle soup, I began to re-cap the events of the previous night. Just a big smile from me.... Anyways, the lady owner is very nice and invited me to sit down. Once the food came out, I was surprised by the abundance of bok choy and meat. Despite the soup being very bland, I just added the chili sauce from my condiment station and it was fine. I would gladly return to try their other dishes, but I believe the soup needs more flavor please!

I don't freaking effing care what any of you Yelpers have to say about this place.
I have MAD MAD RESPECT for the delivery guy. He braved the freaking storm last friday (1/4/08) to deliver the breakfast order for my office. Normally when we order delivery, they make us come outside the building and pick it up from their car. Not the delivery guy here!! He comes all the way to our office!! THANK YOU GOLDEN KIM TAR DELIVERY GUY!!
$4 breakfast which consisted of 2 eggs any style (sunnyside up always for me!), hash browns, choice of french fries or 2 pieces of toast (toast for me!) and FOUR PIECES OF BACON!!
*falls over*
They were also NOT shady with the condiments.
OMG OMG OMG I was so hungry, I could've hugged and kissed the delivery guy when he came. Okay not really, but even though he was late he was EXTREMELY apologetic about it. Their ceiling got damaged from the storm and he had to try to fix the leak =(
I really hope their restaurant did okay through the storm, the delivery guy was so nice.
Ok I can't believe I wrote a review about a freaking delivery guy...
But anyway! The portions for my breakfast were HUGE!!! And only $3.95!!! AND THEY DELIVER!!

YAY! I'M A FAN because:
1. Golden Kim Tar delivers within the Tenderloin/Civic Center area for FREE!
2. The portions are HUMONGOUS!
3. Supercheap! $20 worth of food consists of 2 huge full entrees, an appetizer and a free chowmein or fried rice which can feed 3- 4 people.
4. The dishes are actually yummy. Not yummy as in "I'll brave the TL to get to this food" yummy but as long as I work around the area, I'll eat here. So far, I've had the Sesame Chicken, Orange Chicken, Beef with Black Mushroom, Kung Pao Tofu (my fave so far), etc. They are all delicious!!!
For the first time last week I tried their delivery service. I phoned in my order and they delivered the food to my office punctually as I requested.
I was ecstatic! It means that I can have Chinese Food Nights with boyfriend for cheap and just a phonecall away!
The restaurant itself is non-descript but the servers were very friendly.
Tip: If you are visiting the beautiful San Francisco Main Library (SFPL), you can ask Golden Kim Tar to deliver your food to the library. Just don't eat your food at SFPL. NO EATING/DRINKING ALLOWED AT THE LIBRARY!
Enjoy! -

I've been to Golden Kim Tar a few times for lunch and recommend it for anyone who works in the area. The lunch specials are pretty cheap and you get a ton of food: big portion of your selected entree, rice, soup and an egg roll. Service is very friendly and the food comes out pretty quick.
I think the menu presents a good variety of Americanized Chinese food, which is fine by me. So far my favorite is the Mandarin Spicy Eggplant with Shrimp & Chicken. -

How does this make sense? If one is chinese. They eat chinese food for dinner everyday, yet they'll want chinese food for lunch too? Well, that's my coworker for you, and I guess it's ok since 60% of the group were not chinese.
But, it's good to know at least the place I went to today for lunch was alright. It's really really close to my work and they have excellent prices. But all the stereotypes you have on chinese restaurants, this place has it. From the unusual arrangement of tables, to the wooden chairs which are feel uneasy and should get replaced, to the sticky tables.
And definitely, it seemed like everyone and their mom's in the civic center area came here at 12pm on the dot. We were fortunate enough to walk over by 11:45 am to get a seat and order. I ordered the Mongolian Chow Fun $6.50 and it wasn't too bad. I'll admit, the chow fun wasn't stuck together like most places and it was cooked well and plenty. But the flavor just tasted like soy sauce. For Mongolian, I'd expect a lilttle more peppery flavor. And the raw onion, no no no. Do not give me that.
Overall, the service was rather slow, food was mediocre, came with free soup, oranges, and fortune cookie for $7 including tax/tip. Good way to fill up on your lunches in the CC or TL. -

Try to surpass the decor because it won't matter... the restaurant sign looks like it dates back from the Nixon era, 80s wood panel wall paper, cracked linoleum flooring, and some really hazardous chairs & tables that look like you can fall on your ass when you're seated
Why?
Lunch rocks at Kim Tar...but that all depends
My recommendations are:
Salt & Pepper Chicken wings w/ combo fried rice are delicious. I love that the chicken comes out golden brown yet the meat is juicy & tender
Honey Walnut prawns are big & sweet
Salted Fish & Chicken rice is addicting....they serve it on a big plate of heaps that resemeble a mountain
Suggestions for Improvement:
Mu Shu Chicken was salty as hell...it may have sent my blood pressure through the roof. Kim Tar needs to ease up on the salt for this dish
Overall, Kim Tar satisfies the "comfort food urge"
Speaking from experience, it's the place to go on Monday & cure the weekend hangover...woot -

So of course I used Yelp to find a new chinese restaurant to try out and Golden Kim Tar came up with the highest average rating which I think is pretty much dead on.
The lady on the phone was amazingly hilarious. She seemed super excited to take my order and she called back to verify my card number and apologized and asked me how many people were eating and I said 3 people thinkin thats how many chop sticks she'll throw in and such....and then asked what my fav soda was and I said Root Beer and here comes the delivery 30 minutes later with 3 free sodas! AMAZING! LoL! ( i get excited over free things lol ) The dude was super nice that delivered and had a huge smile on his face and thanked me and closed my door for me....
So yes...food....
I ordered the Orange Chicken,General Tso, and Pineapple Fried Rice....
You really cant go wrong with the orange chicken or general tso, great portions and I got plenty of left over for lunch and dinner even after two of my other friends dug in.
The pineapple friend rice is better then most that i've had...it has a nice curry taste to it and pineapples seem freshly cut and its a huge portion for 6 bucks.
So far, my go to chinese joint till they mess up. LoL! -

Golden Kim Tar isn't too bad. Their food is alright and they normally give you a lot of food. I normally buy the chicken with string bean over rice meal and I can't even finish it a lot of the time because they give me a lot of rice. lol. This is a good place though.
The service at this place is great. The cashier who is normally there is nice. She asks you for your order and she is very patient with you, even though she is taking like a million orders and giving other people their food at the same time. lol. She's cool though.
The only beef that I have with this place is how long it takes to get your food. Around lunch time, if you come in to order your meal, it might take about 15-25 minutes. If you order your meal on the phone, it might not take as long, but it still takes a long time. Other than that, this is a pretty good restaurant. -

It's not the BEST Chinese food EVER but it's definitely a legitimate place for Chinese food. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for good tasting, cheap, and generously portioned Chinese food in the area!

-Service: The service is the best part. It's a family owned business and they are the nicest people ever.
-Hours and Delivery: open late and deliver

I have found two more dishes I'm totally in love with from this restaurant, Bitter Melon Chicken with black bean sauce with steamed rice and BItter Melon Beef with black bean sauce and steamed rice. Bitter Melon is an acquired taste, I grew up on it. The chef at this restaurant cooks so much like my grandfather that passed on in 1995, that every time I want to remember my grandparents, I order from this restaurant.. The food is amazing...I promise you would never be disappointed here. I also love that when you order Won Ton Soup, they ask if you prefer Bok Choy or broccoli...

Don't go out of your way to come here. If you're in the neighborhood, and are hungry, you can count on them to be quick and yummy. But don't expect to be wowed.
Cheap, fast delivery. Decent food. Don't order anything fancy. The Wor Won Ton is great, so it the fried rice. The potstickers are a little too doughy for me, but I still order them, cause let's face it - they're still potstickers. They make their won ton fresh every morning. And they use CORN STARCH CONTAINERS! YES! No plastic or styrofoam. Happy day! Love em. I get my food in 30 minutes flat.Listed in: Cheap Grub...

Super cheap prices in addition to free hot and sour soup and fruit with every order, make this place great for anyone on a student budget like myself. My only gripe is that the Mongolian Beef was really bland and not good at all. Probably the worst Mongo Beef I've ever had. I'd like to go back and try something else though just to give them a another chance. With their prices as low as they are it'd be unfair not to give them another shot.
PS - They have free delivery. Sweet!
