Huge fan of this place. The buffet food seems to be spiced for old white people or tourists, but the menu items are totally amazing.
In all honesty, the chicken Indian pizza is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The crust is solidly crisp and yet tender, from the tip of every piece, to the outer crust. Instead of sauce it's essentially saag with fresh herbs and spices, topped with tandoori chicken and peppers. Incredible. Order it with some tamarind sauce. Seriously, you won't regret it.
Got the Spicy Chicken Pizza last night, incredible. I would suggest ordering it with EXTRA sauce, as it comes with hardly any. It's a tomato-based sauce, fresh green onions, herbs, chicken and serrano peppers. Awesome. Ordered it to my house and it arrived about fifteen minutes later. BONUS!
Michelle and I ordered an Indian vegetarian pizza for delivery. I was more than happy with it. It had all the flavors of Indian food and a nice thin crust. All the vegetables were cooked right, not too mushy. The curry sauce was spicey, buttery and darn tasty. I was skeptical when we ordered... I thought it was worth a try at least as a novelty. Oh no, no... this is legit. Order it. You'll dig it!
I'll have to try their Indian food someday. I've read it's good, as well.
you people are f.ing crazy
thius place smells like dog poop, and the food is awful.
I am glad I never had the pizza... the so-called indian crap is over-priced, bland, and horrible.

Overpriced, small portions, bland food...hope the pizza is better.
Fast delivery
omg, love this place. Get the bread with the cherries. order the dessert. all the entrees are incredible
I tried the Lunch buffet, $7.95. The chai tea was bit sweet, but I can taste the cinnamon. They bring you out fresh naan, which is good, but not very good when it got cold. The rice was in a big rice cooker, which kept it moist. The lentil was nice and thick. Lamb and chicken tandoori were tender. Two dishes with cauliflowers. I would say the food was not too spicy. Yogurt sauce was a bit runny. All-in-all, it satisfied my taste buds for a quick meal. The place was really dark inside. It's like you are having dinner instead of lunch. You can't beat free parking outside. The server was nice.
Another pretty good Pizza Joint that I've come across in my lifetime. It reminds me of another Indian owned pizza place in the lower avenues of the Sunset, Brother's Pizza.
In my early years, I used to go to Brother's alot more but as I grew into my teens and then early adulthood, this is the place I started frequenting more since my then girlfriend, now wife lived a couple blocks aways from there.
Can't wait to check it out again soon...
I think the fact that the Indian cook's culture has Naan bread in their bloodlines actually may help them in making really good crust for Pizzas. Cheers to that!!!
The pizza is above average; far better than Brother's Pizza, but not in the same league w/ Giorgio's, Victoria's, or Uncle Vito's.
The crust is light; has a naan aftertaste to it, but it's not terribly flavorful. The sauce was very good; light sweet and hardly greasy. Their cheese was so-so. I'm not sure what grade mozzarella they use, but I've had better. Good quality toppings overall though, from what little I got.
Their pista kulfi is OK; I've had better.... they could use chopped pistachios instead of pulverizing them. It has a nice Eagle Brand sweet condensed milk aftertaste to it though. The gulab jamun is a little bland.
The owner here is very friendly; the service here gets 5 stars.
Not sure about making this place a regular pizza spot, but I'll definitely be back for Indian food.
Pizza & Indian cuisine? I was intrigued. Ordered food online and had it delivered.
2 orders of Meat Samosas. ($3.35/order. 2 pieces/order) (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) The shell was crispy and crunchy with ground lamb and green peas inside. The lamb had a delicious spiciness to it, but it crumbled and fell out of the shell easily. Didn't like the dipping sauces. Too hot and too tangy. Masked the flavor of the lamb.
Chicken Tikka Masala. A bit upset with this because it was $10.95 for a tiny container with few pieces of chicken. Tasted good but definitely not worth the price.
Chicken Indian Pizza. ($19.95 med) (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) Special spinach curry sauce, fresh ginger, fresh cilantro, fresh tomatoes, red onions & Tandoori chicken with mozzarella cheese. Had to order this to see what its about. Boy, I was disappointed!
1. Couldn't taste the curry sauce, ginger and cilantro.
2. My mom asked if there's cha xiu (BBQ pork) in there. It was the Tandoori chicken. But it did looked and tasted like cha xiu since it was cut up into tiny pieces.
3. Dry! My sis and I ended up slathering tikka masala all over our slices to make it more moist and tasty. So the pizza became an overpriced piece of naan.
Doubtful I will order the pizza again. But I am curious about their chili cheese naan. Haha!
You know what? This place is fantastic.
Indian food is supposed to be flavorful; full of a *variety* of flavors, that is. Not: the Sesame Street version wherein all dishes resemble each other in flavor, differing only as mushes of various colors. Nor is the simplistic touristy version acceptable: this one is spicy, this one isn't. Big whoop.
Golden Gate gets this. They've got flavor down, man, and it is gooooood. And that's not all.
From the very friendly lady on the phone (who remembers our preferences), to the very tasty & complex flavored Indian fare, to the delicious pizza. The Indian pizzas are good, but strangely, so are the Italian-style pizzas. In fact, even if we're only ordering pizza, we'll often order from here.
It's been since living in the East Bay that I've had such flavorful Indian food as this. And that's not from lack of trying! My favorites (as always), are the saag paneer & the dal makhani. I think, in general, a lot of people tend not to order dal because so many places have such boring versions of it. Not here! This one has lots of ginger and cinnamon and who knows what all, but it's darn tasty. Best of all, I can order the rice, the above 2 dishes, and have food for 3 meals.
Slurp, slurp, YUM!
Not the greatest Indian food and not the greatest pizza. It works if you have a group of people who can't decide between the two. The pizza and pasta have some interesting Indian spices, but not enough for me to be a fan. We go here if we have to get an Indian food fix but are not feeling to picky.
This place is amazing. The Naan and the Chicken curry beats "Naan n Curry."
Love, love, love the pizza! Why is it that I always forget about GGPizza until I'm not in SF and then my bf orders it without me. Thanks, jerk.
I've never had the Indian food here. I did try their pizza sandwich once - definitely a mistake that I do not recommend you to make. But hey, they're not called GG Pizza, Indian Cuisine, and Sandwiches.
Their pizza!!! Both the Chicken version (Spinach Curry sauce, Cilantro, Tomatoes, Red Onions & Tandoori Chicken with Mozzarella Cheese) and the Vegetarian version (Spinach Curry sauce, Tomatoes, Red Onions, Cauliflower & Eggplant Bhartha with Mozzarella Cheese) are really good. With a side of samosas and you just can't go wrong.
It is a little on the pricey side, but it's worth it. Worth every single bite.
We got this delivered to my friend's place in Cole Valley this weekend. We got the Indian veggie special, which I really enjoyed. Onions, garlic, tomatoes, cauliflower, cheese, eggplant, I liked it a lot. Only one thing - the smell of the pizza is a little weird. Taste is fine though.
The veg pakora and samosas were only ok. And also, their web site is a bit confusing - it says $15 minimum delivery, but if you are using the "order online" option, it forces you to go to $30 before tax before it will let you submit the order. Also, the promise to call you to confirm in 10 mins doesn't happen either - we called to confirm after about 20 and they said it wasn't ready yet, yet 5 mins later the delivery guy showed up.
All in all, a little quirky operationally, but I enjoyed the Indian Pizza a lot!
Who the hell knew we had this little gem tucked away? In any event now that I've found it I'm thrilled. So far everything I've had from them from the chana masala to the Hawaiian pizza has been great. Their Indian food never lacks for flavor and the don't skimp on pizza toppings. Great place if you get like me and want everything for dinner b/c you can have it all here in one stop. The actual restaurant isn't that great though so I always get delivery.
If Naan and Curry's chicken palak and Blondie's conceived a child, it would be what I ate tonight.
we ordered the indian chicken pizza from Golden Gate for the first time -- spinach curry base, cheese, diced chicken (looked kinda like BBQ pork from a chinese joint though), some red onion, a hell lot of cilantro, with large slices of tomatoes on top. might sound funny but damn, it hit the spot!
price kinda steep at $22 though for a medium, hence the one star off. but it was worth it. so worth it.
I have to recall the 5-star rating after dining in and getting take out a few more times. Last time I was there in January the service was awful - the waiter was not attentive, kept getting our order messed up and never showed up to give us the bill. After finishing our dessert and wine and sitting there for a while, we walked up to the counter (where the staff was having a gossip pow wow) and had to ask for the bill from them.
I've never had their pizza. The indian food is good most of the time, last time the curry was bland and too thin. Their pasta is school cafeteria style - nasty, and only good as a last resort option.
Lastly the decor and the atmosphere of the place don't invoke warm fuzzies in me. It looks old and dusty, even the dim lighting is not helping. The glass on the tables has sharp corners and it's easy to scratch yourself on it.
It seemed great when I first move here but I'm afraid I am over this place and won't come back on my own will.

We went for the indian food. Not bad....not especially good though. We both felt we've had better Indian food elsewhere, and for a bit less.
I may try the pizza someday, but probably won't be back for Indian.
Before I begin, I just want to say that I like indian food very much, just not on my pizza/hamburgers/fries/etc.
I looked at the previous comments and ratings and thought, hey why not give this place a change. I'm not going to say it's good or bad cuz I want you to decide.
If you spent 50 bucks on food from a place to deliver to your house would you expect something that leaves a armpit-like smell on your fingers.. not to mention the smell is coming from eating a pizza?
I ordered an x-large pizza with meatballs, linguica and shrimp. i tasted each individually and the shrimp was "ok", the linguica was actually pretty good, but the meatballs were definately not italian meatballs. they had this odor that smelled of leftover tacos and a faint arm-pit smell to it.
Next I also ordered a teriyaki burger w/ fries. the lettuce tomato and fries were decent. the burger patty tasted burned and old. the burger also had the "odor" to it as well (although not as strong as it was on the pizza)
I was looking for a place with burgers and pizza's, not an indian + arm-pit smell all over it as well.
I feel ripped off and so I leave this comment to those interested in this place to beware of pizza & other common fare such as burgers and fries.
I like indian food, but again, just not on my pizza, burgers or whatever else isn't indian unless specified as otherwise.
How great!...slash weird. I've only been once, but I just think its a great idea that, surprisingly, works. Please note that I've only had one thing there which was one of the "Curry Pizzas", so yes, my review may be a bit skewed.
The pizza had saag instead of tomato sauce, was covered with lots of veggies, and chopped up tandoori chicken..and lots of melted cheese. It just worked! And pizza is just as good the next day.
This place is just the most random thing ever.
It shares a lot with the 7-11 next door and those are the only two things in this tiny strip mall (if you can call it that). It just looks like a place that you would only try if you've pounded a six-pack of beer, went to a blue grass festival, and wanted a place to stop as you biked home... which, as it happens to be, is how me and my buddies ended up trying it.
We got two things there: the Indian Chicken Pizza and some lamb curry. The curry was nothing to write home about but man that pizza was something else! It's like they took all the good indian stuff i liked and transformed it into another awesome food i like. The crust was like a light and fluffy naan, topped with a saag sauce, then topped with mozzarella, tandoori chicken, and tomatoes. Super good.
so go ahead and give it a try. and don't be skeptical of weird/rantom ethnic food combinations. and listen to blue grass.
p.s. The lunch buffet is whatevers.
The lunch buffet was completely disappointing.
I naively believed the same tasty food I got to go would be waiting for me on the buffet table. Wrong.
The fact was there was barely enough food to feed the 10 or so people who were there.
This snippet sums up the whole experience:
The chicken tikka masala was constantly low on chicken but instead of cooking up a new batch they just put in more dried out chicken breast and cream to the existing batch.
*tear*
So how does this place still retain its three star rating?
It's still the best Indian place in the neighborhood.
*sobbing*
Lesson learned:
I'll continue to get food to go and will stay away from the buffet.

Pizza and Indian food? I guess it was bound to happen in such a diverse town.

Pure San Francisco Genius -- Versatile, Cheap, and close to the beach! Though I don't think anyone would fare well eating curry on the beach, G-Gate is a great place to get your Desi Pizza Grub on. Bring in a big group of people and the cooks are guaranteed to bring in their A game to win you over. I can't say I love everything here, but considering all the other crap excuses for Indian food in San Francisco, G-Gate is a winner!
Bonus: It's right off the N, but there is also a small parking lot! Yayness.
This place has the best Curry!!!! I'm a loyal customer. I moved to Hawaii and still make sure I drive 45 min from the Bay Area to get this curry! The naan is great too!!... Def try this place.. 2 thumbs up!
One day a long, long time ago, my friend and I were headed towards the beach on a freakishly sunny S.F. day and stopped in a unevenly paved parking lot in front of a yellow painted wall. It read "Golden Gate Pizza & Indian Cuisine". My friend went into the convenience store next to it while I stared in confusion and curiosity about a pizza and Indian restaurant that stood before my very eyes....
In a previous review of an Indian restaurant I stated that if I believed in past-lives I would have been from India or some country in the Middle East, but what I didn't expose was that pizza is one of my favorite foods in all the universe. So to have pizza and the native food of my "past-life" in one???!!! It appeared to be a match made in perfection. Unfortunately we had to go to the beach, but fortunately, they deliver!!!
Alright so the food. Yes, so one must try the Korma coconut curry. I get the vegetable one, but I'm telling you, this Korma business is like eating a very well seasoned soup of butter. I get it every time. EVERY TIME PEOPLE! Even delivered it's hot (temp) enough to burn my mouth each time, just the way I like my food. I have tried bites of the shrimp curry, which is lighter and less thick but still tasty. I have had the samosas, which are hard to go wrong anywhere b/c fried foods.... COME ON! I've even tried the pizza, which isn't like the best pizza around, but still, it tasted like pizza. I gave this 5 stars b/c it's all about the KORMA, baby!
I used to love their buffet, but the last time I went the rice was yellow and stinky; and that was when I decided it would be the last time.
It's quite a shame that they let the buffet food sit there for weeks, too, because it actually does taste good. Reasonable prices, and although the selection is the smallest I've ever seen at a place that calls itself a "buffet," I went multiple times for their Tikka Masala and Rice Pudding.
I had the Indian Pizza once, and it was good. 4 stars for the buffet on a "good day," -5 for serving people rotten old food, and +3 stars for the yummy Indian Pizza=2 stars. (-_-)
I scarcely can allow a weekend to pass without going to the buffet at Golden Gate Pizza and Indian cuisine. How can you beat all-you-can-eat for $7.95?
I'll admit that the facade is tacky as all get out. It's sort of below the parking lot along a lowered sidewalk that seems to reek a bit of bodily fluids. It's next to a laundromat and the 7-11. But it is worth disregarding these little flaws to come inside and try the food.
I first gave them a try when I got home from work one evening and was too thrashed to even think about cooking or going out. They had left a menu on the gate and I gave them a call. On that occasion, I ordered Saag Paneer, rice and Naan. The Saag Paneer was made exactly the way I personally like it, just enough spice and just enough cheese. The Naan was fresh and crusty/chewy/soft. The rice was fragrant with spices. I became an instant fan.
I really like Indian food, especially the Punjabi variety. This little place is near home, and has really good food at reasonable prices. The buffet often features Saag Paneer, always has Tandoori Chicken, usually has lamb curry, nearly always has chicken Tikka Masala, and frequently features Channa Masala, to name only a few. There is rice and Chai on a cart, and there are also some dessert items I never have room for. They bring hot, fresh Naan to the table.
I haven't tried the pizza, because I can't keep from having the Indian food, but I am told it's quite good, and that they use the same bread dough as for the Naan. Sounds great.
The people who own it are sweet and friendly. I always enjoy going in there.
I really enjoy this place: the hilariously dive-y location next to the laundromat and the 7-11, the quintessentially San Francisco idea of a full-on Indian restaurant that also doubles as a pizzeria, and, of course, the food, which is quite good no matter which cuisine you decide to go with.
On that note, the best thing on the menu is the combination of the two, the vegetarian Indian pizza (go with the veggie, not the chicken). We're in the neighborhood and get about one of these a week. I don't think I've ever had anything quite like this pizza. It's basically just a standard crust with a curry sauce, cheese, and a variety of veggies, but it's as tasty as it is unusual. I'll admit that we usually get one of these when we've got someone visiting from out of town and want a cheap way to share some San Francisco quirkiness, and it always impresses.
Incidentally, the rest of the pizzas are fine, and the Indian menu is great. The lunch buffet is a nice bargain ($7.95, all you can eat, with a small but delicious selection of standard dishes). Delivery is fast, although I usually pick up. Wait and counter staff can be a bit aloof.
As a starving college student I take advantages of all-you-can-eat buffets. Golden gate Indian food has one everyday from 11-2 AND for only $7.95! You can't beat that! They have great food and they serve you hot Naan beard. YOU SHOULD GO!
The menu is so crazy how could you not love it? The pizza is pretty good considering it's coming from an Indian restaurant, but skip the salads. Now the chicken tikka masala is something to write about. I still don't know what's in it, maybe I don't want to know...but it's the bomb!
ps. The sketchy facade of this place is not indicative of the food..I'll admit I was a little afraid to eat here the first time, but so glad I did!
I love indian food. I would eat indian food every day if I could.
This place is great if I feel like eating indian but my boyfriend only wants to eat pizza and is very adamant about getting what he wants. Too bad he likes indian food too. So if we both wanted indian, honestly, we would probably NOT go here unless it was raining and our car broke down in the parking lot and I was pregnant and craving indian food or else I would claw my boyfriend up into shreds.
Curry: Good! Except there were chicken bones in it. That I didn't expect. That I nearly took an eye out with. Also, expensive and maybe too watery.
Naan: Also good! But really, really, really expensive. I wonder if I could make it better..
Pros: Indian woman working there. She was beautiful in a classic way and very nice. Pretty good food (indian anyways, I didn't try their italian side). Also, Parking!
Cons: There's no music! It's dark inside. I took my food to go since I seemed like the only one in the restaurant at 1 pm.
1 Star for parking!
1 Star for pretty good indian food (besides the surprise bones)
1 Star for the indian woman
In the sunset there are many options for pizza, and fro me this is by far the best out in the avenues. When you order delivery it comes fast and is pretty darn hot. I have yet to try there buffet but ive heard good things. and the prices are great.
I came here for the first time for the lunch buffet on a Sunday and it was totally EMPTY except for our party of 3. That scared me a bit but I really wanted to give this place a try. The food was actually really good and I thought $7.95 was a great deal for all you can eat buffet. They had maybe 4 or 5 meat dishes and 2 vegetarian dishes, rice, naan that was so crispy and yummy, some desserts, salad, and tea that were all unlimited. And they kept the food well stocked and fresh throughout.
It's unfortunate that the place looks so dingy from outside... and location isn't that great either. I felt so bad that we were the only ones there b/c everyone working there was so nice to us! But hopefully they're getting a lot of business with their pizza delivery. All in all, I really liked this place... Naan and Curry is closer to me but I'd rather eat here simply b/c I think the food is better.
I realize I may have been extra harsh on this establishment. To be honest, the Indian food in SF is different from the Indian food I had in SD. Different regional foods? Different expectations? I don't know.
All of my friends tell me they like this place. Maybe its just me.

I ate here late at night with my guy.
Piercing silence in the restaurant was deafening.
The décor was old and outdated.
Waitresses were solemn upon approaching the table.
Then once they open their mouths to speak, a happy sing-songy voice follows.
Their beautiful voices and friendly smile didn't fit in with the worn out surroundings.
On top of that, there was this young chick in the corner staring at me like I was the main dish.
I made my guy scoot to the right to block her stares with his big head.
Once his head bobbed down to eat, I caught the young chick with a huge makeup brush powdering her face.
Total Twilight Zone. Maybe it was the hour. Maybe I was drunk. Maybe I wasn't really there.
On the other hand, the food was not disappointing.
Tea was delicious and fresh.
Samosas ($3.25) Delicious deep fried potato dumplings served with chutney.
Naan ($1.95) Fresh from the clay oven. Huge, warm, soft, and scrumptious.
Chicken Tikka Masala ($10.95) Full of flavor and generous portion of sauce to dip your naan.
Allu Gobi ($8.95) Potatoes and Cauliflower seasoned with garlic and spices.
Overall: Worn out décor, twilight zone ambiance late at night, friendly and attentive servers, fresh and good food. I hear their pizza is the best and they deliver.
Note to Owners: Turn on some Bollywood beats and maybe the place won't seem like a desolated restaurant off a dead-end highway.
Hmmmm.
So last night I was feeling la-ay-zee-ee and really didn't feel like cooking. That and I haven't been to the market in weeks, so the pickins were as they say, slim. I went through all 4 of my delivery menus and didn't feel like Deja Vu again and definitely wasn't craving Chinese food. Since Indian is a tough one with the dreaded cinnamon allergy I was almost at a loss until I saw Pizza & Indian Cuisine?
How did that combo happen? And more importantly, how did ribs and fried chicken make their way onto a pizza & Indian cuisine menu? Well, i had to find out. And so i ordered a few things to try since with delivery for the first time, your chances are risky of actually finding something you like, especially when most of the reviews leaned towards the Indian side of the food equation.
The food arrived about 45 minutes or so later and it was piping hot and smelled good. I was also really friggin hungry. I then sampled a few of the things and on the whole it was okay. The ribs were kinda tough and the one piece of fried chicken I tried had a sort of sweet thing going on. It was subtle, but definitely not one of the best friend chickens I've tried. I'll take Popeye's over that any day. The salad however, was tasty and came already dressed. A good point to note since you wouldn't want it to get soggy, so maybe ask for dressing on the side.
Not really sure if i would order it again, but for a filling meal on an otherwise depressing hump day, it did its job.
I'm at home watching "Bring it on" with Andy which by the way is one of his favorite movies because he is in LOVE with Gabrielle Union. He is monologuing with the movie.
*rolling my eyes*
We were both hungry and too caught up with the movie's shallowness and sugary giddiness. Golden Gate delivers! I LOVE Indian food. Andy hates it. A perfect match. I ordered the chicken tandoori, samosas and garlic nann. He orders chicken parmigiana with fries and a chocolate mousse cake.
*ding dong*
The food arrives at lighting speed. It is not the best considering the price. The chicken tandoori was 10.95 for 2 small legs and garlic nann was chewy for 2.50 but great when you are too lazy watching a so-bad-it's-good teen flick.
Pizza was dripping in grease and the crust was burned. Delivery guy was rude.
Amici's is really the standard in quality Pizza
I've been getting menus from this place on my door for over a year now. Sometimes the only thing I need in life is a cheeseburger, so I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to find burgers on their menu during a recent late night "what-the-heck-am-i-going-to-order-in-?-nothing-so unds-good-except-a-cheeseburger-and-all-i-have-are -ethnic-menus" moment of panic. Because the burger is only 6 bucks I needed to order more items to make the $15 delivery minimum. How about some samosas - meat and regular, and throw in some naan too? Less than 30 minutes later a friendly man delivered my food with a smile. The cheeseburger was actually a 'double' with two patties and definitely chased my craving away. The fries that came with the burger weren't anything exciting, so I relied on the naan to foot the evenings carbohydrate bill. The samosas were great the next day. Both the vegetarian and meat samosas were HUGE and tasty, though I preferred the potato and pea to the lamb. Will certainly order from here again!
I feel like I ate the Chicken Indian pizza at least 3x a week for a whole summer when I was crashing at a friend's house around the corner.
It is SO good. I know it sounds weird, but the combination of fragrant spices, fresh veggies and tandoori chicken topped with cheese is perfect!
Don't ask me about the rest of the menu though, I am set in my ways.
Good Indian food, but in my opinion overpriced.
I've ordered from here a few times, and I've found the prep time to be pretty low. The kitchen is right by the front door which usually leads to the person who takes your money always working the preparation of your food. I've not seen any blatant health code violations, but this seems like a ripe environment for such infractions.
Most recently, I had tikka masala and basmati rice came up to $14 for a single order, and I was picking it up. The chicken was still very hot, even nearly a half hour later when I finally got to eating it. The yogurt sauce was flavorful and the chicken tasted and looked like it was all breast meat. The rice was above average, flavored with cloves and a bay leaf.
In all, a solid Indian restaurant. This location has practically no local competition to keep prices down, so don't expect a Naan & Curry bill.
