I had the pleasure of living in Fresno for a few years in my early 20's. Fresno is a great place to live because no matter what city you live in after that looks like Utopia. That's including you poor bastards that live in Bakersfield/Merced/Stockton, any central valley town basically. Yes. Fresno is that bad. However, I did work with some very nice and unique people. One of them being a nice black man with an amazing sense of humor. We would have lunch together often, and he would teach me Ebonics or any new slang he recently picked up. He would make me repeat the slang, then laugh at me stomping his feet up and down. Whatever. It was funny. My favorite quote from him, while eating a cheeseburger, he looked down while chewing the food and said "Mmmmmmmmm! This is off da meat!"

That's all I can say about the Golden Egg. (Or gay egg as I call it, don't ask) This place is "Off da meat!"

I woke up one morning at my sister/brother in laws house down the street. Craving breakfast, which I never have, the place next door to the Gay Egg was recommended. There was somewhat of a wait, so I said fuck it, I'll go to the place next door. The Gay Egg.

I sat down on the patio and immediately fell in love that they have their young children working as their slaves. They came out and set the table, gave us water, menus, etc... I love to see families working together. All be it against the children's will.

The list of specials caught my eye. I went for some sort of artichoke/sausage scramble, potatoes and wheat bread. Wow. This place is incredible. Everything was simply delicious. This is hands down the best breakfast I've had in 33 years of life. The quality was incredible. Even the presentation with fanned out avocado slices. The bread was thick and hearty. Not cheap shit bread. And the kicker? Yeah, they have the Tabasco and cholua hot sauces. But they have the PEPPER PLANT. This crap is like $6 a bottle. It is so good. It's thick, spicy and very flavorful. I feel bad because I use 3/4 of the bottle every time I go, but in my mind this offsets the high prices.

Go to the Gay Egg my friends. Try it once and you'll be hooked. I go every time I'm in the area. But do this. #1 don't call it the Gay Egg. Call it by it's real name. And if I hear "Off da meat" being used anywhere in Ventura County I'm going to delete this post, call my friend in Fresno to come down, then you'll be dealing with 1 pissed off African American.

In closing, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That's it. I'm done. 5 STARS GAY EGG!

I had the pleasure of dining here today for breakfast on a day trip to Ventura.  What a wonderful surprise Golden Egg Cafe turned out to be!  Very attentive and competent service, really great food, nice extra touches - slices of lemon in the water, real maple syrup, a generous helping of fruit (instead of potatoes) including strawberries and banana, and reasonable prices for ample portions ($7-10).  We also had our dog with us who was more than welcome on the patio - they even brought him a bowl of water!   If you live in the area or find yourself just passing through like us, I highly recommend you stop in to the Golden Egg Cafe for breakfast or lunch.

Bless the Henandez family who run the Golden Egg Cafe for being open on Christmas morning!  God knows I called several dozen restaurants from Ventura to Westlake Village looking for a place that was open for Christmas breakfast!  I was politely told "no, we are closed on Christmas" over and over again.  But I did not give up, a man must eat when out of town!

It was eggs benedict and a good cup of coffee for me this morning after much "cheer" from Christmas Eve. : P

The folks at this little restaurant were so nice!  Good food too. My GF the Queen of Reseda had the huevos rancharos.  Very good!  It was almost like having breakfast at someone house.  Absolutely very pleasant indeed.

    Merry Christmas!

WOW what a gem!!! I originally was drawn in by the cute front porch, parked in the parking lot behind the cafe, drawn to the front by the smell of great food wafting about.
I've enjoyed their food now for some 6 years ~ great staff ~ hot food ~ exciting dishes and a little cantaloupe at the end!
Thank you all at the Golden Egg for making my day always better.

This is our newest breakfast place, but I mostly get something that is not on the breakfast menu. I won't say what it is out of fear that everyone will order one, and there will be none left for me!

Yes, it is a bit small, but we don't come on the weekends due to the crowds overflowing from Pete's.
Homemade sausage, perfect eggs, and my secret menu item keep my gal and I coming here once a week. We used to eat at Pete's next door, (larger portions) but the wait gets old, unless you get there real early.

After the wait at Pete's (a few doors down) was too long for my growling stomach to wait, I walked down to Golden Egg Cafe.  Friendly service and the food was good.  Nice outdoor patio, but they too allow dogs to dine with humans - I just don't get that.

We've been coming here since we moved to Ventura a few years ago, and it's our favorite breakfast place for a few reasons:

We've never had to wait for a table. Pete's is just a short walk away, and there are always people waiting outside for 30/45 minutes. I like being able to just walk into Golden Egg and choose where I want to sit.

Everything we have eaten is great! I love their all their scrambles and have never been disappointed by any of them. I usually stick with the chorizo scramble or the turkey sausage/artichoke special. I just had one of their quiches last week and that was quite yummy! My husband usually gets their french toast or pancakes and always leaves the plate empty. What I'm trying to say is that everything is great!

Also, they bring you fresh fruit if you choose that as your side. None of the frozen syrupy fruit that some places will bring you.

It's a cute, quaint, family-owned restaurant that we come to every weekend if we're in town. Never disappoints!

Went to Golden Egg Cafe on Saturday morning on the way we drove to Santa Barbara. It is a friendly place that many people were having breakfast with their dogs. We ordered French Toast, turkey sausage, egg and coffee. Price and service are pretty decent.

PERFECT, it was like having breakfast at home. The patio was a perfect touch on a nice sunny morning. This is the perfect place to start/end a drive or motorcycle ride on PCH. A friend brought me here from Fullerton via freeway and we rode back on PCH. Don't come in rush, sit down and enjoy the place. Friendly wait staff and great food.

Delicious food, wonderfully polite, kind and attentive servers. Fresh squeezed Orange juice. The eggs Rancheros reminded me of my grandmas cooking.  I asked for spicy and put in fresh Jalapenos! Definitely coming again whenever I am in or driving through Ventura!

I honestly can't believe there aren't more reviews of this place.  Their breakfasts are simply fantastic.

Whether  you're looking for classic American or a traditional Mexican, this place has it all down pat, and everything apears to be made from scratch.

It seems to be family owned, and the customer service is outstanding.

I cannot recommend this place enough. Try the homemade corn beef and hash.

This place reminds me of eating at a bed and breakfast. Inside it's very homey, like you're in someone's house. The french toast was light and fluffy and they give you quite a lot. The potatoes were just okay. I didn't care for all the rosemary but my husband loved it. My husband really enjoyed his blueberry pancakes. We had a very relaxing breakfast with good service and a cheerful atmosphere.

I was very happy to find a solid breakfast place in Ventura.  Food in this city has disappointed me and I get the feeling that the people there accept mediocre fare.  Go ahead and hate.  Anyway, this place kicks out really good breakfasts!  The egg dishes were superb and the pancakes and waffles were fluffy and tasty.  Big plus for maple syrup at the table.  Banana bread as a bread choice is a nice touch.  Friendly people, reasonable pricing.

When I read 'fresh squeezed" next the to orange juice on the breakfast menu I got excited. Except here they serve you Minute Maid in a glass. Bleh. The waitress was nice but forgot my fiance's side of potatoes (instead of apologizing she tried to play it off as if he never ordered it in the first place). I agree with the other yelper I do feel their hearts are in the right place but my food wasn't hot either. I ordered french toast (bland) bacon ( 2 small measley pieces) and a side of eggs. My plate looked depressed. The staff was friendly but the server who brought my first plate lacked good hygiene. Not a sight you want to see before digging in. I highly recommend a complete makeover inside/out. Replace those awful white plastic chairs outside, the dead flowers on each table, all wall decor, and no more playing Avril Lavigne.

Two words - hangover friendly. The server arrives at the table, coffee in hand, because they understand. Not just from the greasy, matted hair or the bags under your eyes...but from everybody's who are at all the other tables. The food is good and simple American breakfast that is way cheap. Can't get much better than that.

It was surprisingly empty on a Sunday morning!  Food was good.  Server thought a bit too much of herself.  All I ask for is eye contact and a smile.  You can't be without those attributes and also get away with being inattentive to your customers... I will go back though.  I always give a second chance if the food is good.  Vegetarian Benedict was good.  Not the best...

I do think their hearts are in the right place.  The waitress was  a bit slack, but very friendly and, in fairness, it was late (1pm) and mostly empty.  I absolutely love being able to sit outside.  HOWEVER.  There's something about a dog's barking incessantly that sets me on edge (upon leaving I saw there's a grooming shop next door).  Ants crawled across my table.  And the tables and chairs are the trailer park white plastic kind that are a universal signal of desperation.  The food was good, but of my 3 eggs, only the first was hot, since they were slung onto a cold plate.  Maybe if there's a crowd it would be better?

We decided to eat here in hopes of finding a family-owned place that was run with love, featuring food made from scratch.  That's what we found.  From the moment we walked up we were greeted by friendly, sincere waitstaff.  We started with coffee and cinnamon roll.  The cinnamon roll was unique and delicious.  Then we ordered the vegie quiche (le piece de resistance), vegie eggs benedict (perfect) and Santa Fe scramble.  The fruit side was enormous and fresh with seven kinds of fruit.  The potatoes were pan fried, crisp and not too oily.  We loved it and would come back anytime we are in Ventura.

I have lived in the area over 20 years and love breakfast. I search high and low for the best breakfast when traveling. The food must be great, coffee equally as good, and service outstanding.  I have found the Golden Egg to have the best breakfast in Ventura County!  I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. Consistently good breakfasts, and over and beyond friendly service (by owner and his family.) Quaint setting with outdoor seating.

I am also amazed that there are not more reviews on this restaurant! It is truly the best breakfast in Ventura. You can sit inside or outside. I love to sit outside with my family and our dog. The owner is truly wonderful, kind, caring and talented. I always feel as though I have been on a mini vacation when I eat here. It is a relaxing, and nurturing environment. The food is always prepared fresh unique and delicious. The menu has something for everyone. I love the real maple syrup along with the "fake" pancake syrup option as well as  all the condiments brought automatically to the table.  I ONLY use real maple syrup but some in my family prefer the fake stuff. No price difference! The homemade fresh quiche is always wonderful. OMG I'm getting hungry thinking about it. Why type? I think I'll drive over and eat!

The Golden Egg Cafe is in a cute little house.  Kind of made me feel like I was back in the 50's.  Very clean.  Our food was very good, although plain/simple in terms of seasonings.   My vegetarian eggs benedict (I am not a vegetarian) came out just right, whites done, yellows wet.  Very strong coffee (too strong for me) with constant refills and excellent service.  Mixed bag for ambiance.  They had vases of dried (read dusty dead and icky) plant matter on each table, which was strange considering the creamy yellow upbeat color of the place, like their darker side did the table scape. Would have preferred eating outside if it had been a nicer day.  White plastic tables and chairs crowd the outside area, so I am not sure I would have really felt comfortable on a busy day.  They get the four stars for the well prepared food, good service and clean establishment.

My wife read about this place on Trip Adviser, so we decided to stop here on our way up to Santa Barbara.  It definitely lived up to its good reviews.  My Chorizo Skillet was perfect.  The coffee was great.  The wait staff was attentive and friendly.  The restaurant is a tiny converted house.  So, its easy to miss.  We passed it, and almost thought it had gone out of business.  But, thankfully, we turned around and found it filled with locals.

The best breakfast place in Ventura; I can't believe I didn't discover it sooner.  Very generous portions of homemade food, all made from scratch.  Some highlights: great home fried potatoes, delicious banana bread fresh out of the oven, fantastic veggie/egg scrambles, homemade chorizo sausage, real maple syrup on all of the tables...  Also, the proprietor Ramiro is the friendliest guy in the world and he'll recognize you after one visit.  Much better than the over-rated Pete's just down the block.  I can't say enough good things about this place.

Love this place. Food is fantastic and the service is excellent. The specials are always an appetizing combination and worth a look before you make your final decision. Check out the Mexican style options on the menu as they are VERY delicious and quite authentic. I am in Ventura quite a lot for business and this is my go to breakfast spot.
