A great place for kundalini yoga. I am doing my teacher training here and love the space, community, people and teachers.
Location: this location is a bit off the beaten path. There is parking nearby - it you come here on the week days, use the parking garage across the street. It is $24 for day compared to $38 in others around. Parking on weekends is free. There are a few subways walking distance away.
The space is warm and welcoming. There are hard wood floors. Blankets and pillows are available. People wear white and head covering but you don't have to. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. There are two yoga rooms and a shop.
There is a nice selection of DVDs, apparel, books and jewelry at the shop. Prices are on the higher end, but there are sales.
Great place for kundalini yoga. I wish it was closer to midtown.
They have yogi tea for patrons. It is highly addicting.
Enjoy!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1825323685Jun 9, 2016
I absolutely love this studio. It is so authentic and healing. Kundalini yoga is the real deal. It is the king of all yoga and it will change your life and bring you back home especially here in Golden Bridge.
I have been here on and off since 2014. Although the membership fee seems to be on the raise, the blankets aren't as clean as before and the tea kettles aren't refilled frequently like before and wanted to take away a star because of that but the practices are so authentic and they work! I hop around from studio to studio but always find myself back here. Every classes are different and wonderful but my favorites are Rainer's classes.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - 315856807Apr 19, 2011
Golden Bridge is a FANTASTIC studio. It's welcoming, smells wonderful and has tons of positive energy just seeping from its doors as soon as you step inside. I was very impressed with the set up and how beautiful the studio is. This is the spot to go for your Kundalini yoga practice. Here's some info on what Kundalini yoga is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini_yoga
If you have not tried this type of yoga before, I will be honest and say it is not for everyone, but if you are open to it, you will become hooked and Golden Bridge yoga is the premiere place to go for it in NYC.
They have very caring and awesome instructors who are very knowledgeable and helpful. They also offer a ton of workshops for whatever your needs are, from yoga to increase fertility to gaining peace of mind to prenatal yoga. Whatever you need help with, you can find something for you in a Kundalini yoga practice.
The prices are reasonable and worth it to get the packages (I like the 10 pack for $150). Classes tend to not be overly packed and they have a lot of times to choose from. I haven't taken classes from all the instructors yet, but in my opinion, they are all pretty decent so far. They even have a class with live music on Saturday afternoons. Awesome and beautiful sounds!
You can even have some hot tea and just chill out in the back area of the store while waiting for your class to start and read from their selection of books or bring your own and just enjoy the tea and tranquility you will feel by just hanging out in the studio. Also, you can get all your yoga needs right inside their store. They have everything from mats to meditation pillows, to candles and clothes. Staff is friendly and it's easy to purchase online ticket packages and to check their schedule for upcoming special events and last minute class changes.
Since discovering Golden Bridge Yoga, I feel like there is no other place I would rather go to hone my Kundalini yoga practice. Highly recommended.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 243240635Mar 21, 2012
I got a groupon deal for this place and when i first started i didnt know what Kundalini yoga was .... it was definitely different from all the other types of yoga i've tried. Its helped me to relax and destress at the end of the day.
I love their hatha yoga class on thursdays and fridays. It definitely gave me a workout. Alternating betweeen relaxing kundalini and hatha has been a good balance.
I think anyone that hasn't tried Kundalini should try it out at least once in their life....I"m still a vinyasa fan though i have to say.
As for the studio... the studio is nice and clean and beautifully decorated. And there are tea there for you to drink while waiting for classs or after class.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Christina P.Culver City, CA462220924124Aug 25, 2015
I went to Golden Bridge not having a clue about Kundalini yoga... and to be honest, I'm still not super sure what it's all about after a couple of classes, but I did find it unique, physically challenging, and spiritual. I can't succinctly describe what the Kundalini classes are all about because I've had two different instructors and they were completely different experiences. One instructor played a lot of pre-recorded music - chants, but also with a lot of production value. Kind of like chant-pop. It was a bit strange. The other instructor hardly played any, and her class was much more active. As for the wearing white and covering your head, I didn't get that far, but in any case it was interesting to try a totally different kind of yoga practice.
The space is great as well. Very clean, tranquil, and welcoming. The line to check in can get a bit slow if a bunch of people are signing up for the first time. You can rent a mat for $1 and enjoy some tea before or after the class. There's a little store on the bottom floor which sells some cool stuff and some kind of silly things, but it's not too in your face. There are two different studios on different floors, and they feel airy, not too stuffy, and get great light. I noticed that there was a very mixed bunch of attendees, which I consider a good thing. Even though I clearly was a newbie there was no uncomfortable feeling of not being part of some exclusive club.
I like yoga because I feel like it's one of the few things I do regularly that open me up to completely new experiences that often take me out of my comfort zone both mentally and physically. In that regard, GBY did a great job and I'd definitely return!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Dulcet K.NH, NH1669Oct 31, 2016
As a sikh who had the misfortune of coming across this studio through ClassPass - I can assure you this studio is not the real deal.
The people who tend to think it is the real deal, do not know what the real deal is.
I personally know the language they recite fluently, and these people have no clue what they are talking about.
The songs played are renditions of ancient prayers I recited growing up, with acoustic or techno-y music, and these are played as the teacher wrongly interprets what is being said.
I was nauseated from this experience. My identity is not for people to profit off of and make a joke of this way.
The breathing techniques make no sense and have absolutely no authentic basis behind them. Positive effects from exercises such as these are more based off of the fact that: of course you will feel great if you take some time aside to consciously breath and think positive thoughts. Although I felt horrible because I felt nothing positive about this experience.
Nothing about this was authentic, I assure you. It's more like taking somebody's religion, westernizing it and trying to turn it into some cult for profits.
Now, I believe the relaxing the mind, meditating and healthy bodily movements (such as plain old exercise even) is great for someone, and so is learning from other cultures...but you don't need to be as offensive as Kundalini yoga to reap the benefits of all the wonderful things your mind and body is capable of.
Everything about this studio goes against the Gurus they preach they advocate for. Nothing about it is in line with what was originally taught by these gurus, I promise you that. If you want something authentic, go visit a Gurdwara and actually learn a little about the history and people.
I beg everyone who is considering this studio, or anything like it (including yoga studios who are non-kundalini yet similar) to please, please be more aware of these practices, and how much you are actually hurting the people and history that have given us such wonderful things such as yoga and meditation. You don't have to harm them to benefit from these things.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - M D.Upper West Side, Manhattan, NY22521Feb 29, 2016
This was my first time at this studio as well as first time trying Kundalini. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but enjoyed it!
The studio itself is very nice. The first floor is the the shop where you also check in. Since it was my first time, I got a free mat rental. In the back there's changing rooms, a bathroom, and a corner area to sit and have free tea/water!
Upstairs there are two studios. Huge Windows that let in lots of sunlight, hard wood floors, several different props to make yourself comfy! The space is large, very clean, and good temperature!
The instructor was very welcoming and since I was a newbie she explained everything very well as the class went on. The other participants didn't seem to be annoyed when the instructor continued to explain each step, which was nice! She encouraged us to put forth our best effort and showed different modifications.
There was a lot of chanting (which obviously I didn't know) but some were pretty easy to catch on.Kundalini is def not my first choice of yoga style but I would like to go back and try some more classes. I felt re energized and at ease afterwards! : )Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Fleurene M.Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY063Feb 22, 2018
First off... I love this place. The shop has a great collection for books. I've gone multiple times for Kundalini yoga. I began early January of this year and since than I've gotten a lot of clarity in my own personal spiritual growth. Living in New York City alone is stressful with the heavy volume of pressure everywhere and finding a place like this to center yourself is wonderful. I would recommend everyone to go here.

I would definitely recommend this school as the best one in New York City! For beginners and for advanced yogis this is an amazing, beautiful place with very knowledgeable teachers. Satnam

Kundalini yoga will change your life! seriously. i had been practicing Iyengar yoga for a long time when i found kundalini. i first was recommended Gurmukh's book 'The Eight Human Talents' by a friend. then i found her amazing studio in Hollywood http://www.yelp.com/biz/dd9BHrELvVD_pIUb9lGlkw when I lived in LA (which is one reason i was so sad to leave LA). i've been hooked ever since! kundalini is all about breathing, spine movement, heart opening and meditation. perfect for anyone at any level.
Golden Bridge nyc was opened in the past year, an extension of the LA studio. they offer kundalini, hatha and prenatal classes. i was so honored and happy to be able to take a class there when i was recently in town. (your first class there is only $10, so you have nothing to lose) i went on monday morning to Hari Kaur's 10 am class. it was a full class but not overly crowded. she made the class fun and challenging. she also made sure to introduce herself to anyone new in the class and find out a little about them. Hari Kaur is the director of education and training at golden bridge and a wonderful, compassionate human being!!
after class you can sit and have tea to bring yourself back into your body. this also creates a warm social atmosphere to meet new people. Inhale....Sat, exhale....Nam!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
