I've passed by this place a million times, but never stopped to try anything. After a meeting today my co-worker suggested that we come here. I agree with my fellow Yelpers; this is definitely more than just a bagel shop.
The sandwiches are delicious and I especially love the homemade bread-and-butter pickles at the table. The restaurant is especially clean and I could tell that they take great pride in running a quality establishment.
Everyone was very friendly, although I wish you could pay at the table. If you offer waiter service, it seems like you could also take my check for me, but I digress...

I'm a good Jewish girl who cannot stand the Goy bagels you can get around this city. Having grown up with true Kosher bagels my entire life, I have spent many a weekend morning bagel-less. The sudden crop of Einstein Brothers and the like just seem to give real bagels and bad name.
Thank goodness Goldberg's is in this city. With a couple of locations already, and a new one about to pop-up in Marietta, it makes it so very easy to get an amazing bagel any morning of the week. Sure, they offer frou-frou flavors for the non-purists out there (Cinnamon-Raisin, etc), but their bread and butter lies with the old standards (Garlic, Onion, Sesame, Poppy, Salt, Everything).
My plan of attack is usually to show up mid-morning on a Saturday, buy a dozen hot, fresh bagels and have them toss in a couple of freezer bags. I come home, split up the bagels into the 3 bags and freeze two bags worth. A quick defrost in the 'wave, slice it and toast it and you can't even tell that you didn't just run out and grab a fresh one from the restaurant!
Also an excellent deli, Goldberg's does Jewish-fare better than most, but don't go looking for a bowl of Matzoh Ball Soup - call my mother for that!

We happened to be in the neighborhood so Goldberg's for brunch it is..er, it was. An ex used to live nearby, so I always enjoyed coming here. But after the ex became, well, the ex, my need to come to Dunwoody has been seriously curtailed. The last time I was here, probably about 8 months ago, was the first time I'd been here in years. This past weekend was the first time in 8 months. Obviously I don't miss this place enough to make special trips from intown, but I've had worse. I've had much worse brunch in fact.
The secret to Goldberg's is timing. This is weird to say when talking about a Jewish deli, but because of the megachurch down the street, you need to time your visits just right. Make sure the megachurch is in session. If you appear before...(Mass? Ceremony? Churchytime? What do they call it anyway?), you'll get stuck in traffic. If you appear AFTERWARDS, you'll get stuck in traffic AND you'll have to wait in a line so long the Second Coming will have come and gone before you're seated. Praise Jebus.
If timed right, you should be seated fairly quickly. The food is Jewish deli food, but not so orthodox that you can't get strips of bacon. You can however get potato latkes, which I appreciate. I ordered the corned beef hash; it tasted freshly made and not canned. Score. From a food and value standpoint, I'd give Goldberg's a 4.
However, I promised myself I'd knock them down a star (possibly 2, because I was getting annoyed), for having to flag down the server to pay up. This, despite the fact that the floor manager looked directly at us AND cleared plates as I sat check and credit card in hand. My experience at Goldberg's went from Whoopie to wrestling with the staff just to pay my Bill. Uncool. So 2.5 stars for Goldberg's, rounded down because you found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Kick your service up and I'll do the same to your rating.

So, I might be Cuban, but growing up in Miami it is mandatory that you have a firm grasp on the Jewish religion, culture, and foods. So, if you're from there, you have a great concept of what qualifies as a great bagel.
And Atlanta? Yeah, not so much.
Goldbergs is the exception. In the 10 years + since I left Miami, the bane of my existence has been having to spend Sunday mornings bagel-less with my cup of coffee feeling that hole in my stomach.
My wonderful and irreplaceable friend Lindy has now started to buy me a dozen bagels from Goldbergs (which, the Fiance and I will lucky if they last an entire week). This is because there is NO BAGEL PLACE ON THE SOUTHSIDE! (Not even a 'fake' bagel place like Einstein's).
Goldbergs gives you a little card to stamp for frequent purchases. And something that they offer you that I never got in Miami... Little bags and twisties so you can store your bagels!!! YAY! Now I have some in the freezer and in the fridge for maximum bagel flavor retention....
So fabulous I had to call my parents and tell them what a wonderful Sunday I had solely due to those bagels... It's even competition against the engagement ring I got on Sunday!!!!!
If you like bagels, if you've never had a real bagel, if you're curious about bagels... Go to Goldbergs!

Chain deli. This location has both sit-down seating and take-out. Sandwiches are really well prepared, especially the Reuben. They also sell prepared frozen dinners and soups. The Matzo Ball Soup is excellent. Great Matzo balls, delicious broth - not too strong, not too weak, and succulent pieces of chicken. Buy a container and you'll have enough for lunch and dinner.
My main complaint is that it is really crowded and takes a long time to get out of there for take-out. Onion rings and fries are nothing special.
The one on Northside Drive in Paces Ferry Plaza is the best, but you can't go wrong with any Goldbergs, especially since the Chamblee-Dunwoody location has now modeled itself after the former. I've searched far and wide in my new home of Los Angeles, and can't find any place with better bagels then here. The added bonus is that they're also a swell Jewish deli, and can even make a mean Belgian waffle in the mornings.
One caveat: they replaced Arden's Garden juices with Odwalla, which is kinda bland in comparision.

This is the place to go if you're looking for your not-run-of-the-mill bagel place. Evidently they do stuff right--just like the northern lands where the real kosher bagels come from. Bread is baked on site and you can even get lox.
This location is recently remodeled and worth a Saturday morning visit.
