This is a bare bones, unclean dump of a place that should be avoided at all costs. Sadly, this place has really gone downhill. Up until a few years ago the Gold Country Inn was family-owned by a nice old couple that kept the place clean and the prices low...it was a basic but pleasant place to spend the night. Then the ownership changed and the quality went downhill fast. The rooms are filthy (hair in the sink, questionable stains on the sheets, personal items in the drawers left behind by former guests) and worn (difficult to open rusty shower door, holes in the bedspread, etc.). In addition, the rude unfriendly manager played a game of bait and switch, giving us one price on the phone and a different one when we arrived. We only found out later, from some friends that live in the area, that this place has sunk so low it's known to rent rooms by the hour and there have been several drug arrests here as well. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you're desperate for a cheap room, try the National 9 Inn or the Mother Lode Motel nearby.

In the fall we are minutes away from the Apple Hill area where you can find great homemade apple pies, fritters and cider. You can also find some great arts and crafts made by nearby local merchants. Also here you can find some of the best wineries in California like Madrona & Boeger.
In the winter we are minutes away from great snow parks where you can take the kids for sledding. We are also 45 minutes away from Sierra at Tahoe, a great place for all kinds of family winter activities. During the spring the local wineries host what is called "The Passport Weekend," where they have an open house at all the wineries for wine tasting and hors d'oeuvre. (You can contact the local chamber of commerce at 530-621-5885 for more details). During the summer come stay with us and visit the great American River for whitewater rafting, gold panning and fishing. For other "big city" entertainment we are 45 minutes away from Sacramento and 1 hour away from South Lake Tahoe.

Come stay with us at the Gold Country Inn in Placerville. We are located in the heart of the Gold Country, only minutes away from The Gold Bug mine and Sutter's Mill in Coloma.
We are located within walking distance from numerous restaurants and coffee shops and from downtown Placerville where you can find some of the best antique shops in the Gold Country area. Also located in downtown Placerville is the old hangman where in the gold mining era criminals used to be hanged, thus the nickname of our town--"Old Hangtown." There is an historical museum you can visit to discover the history of our town.
