This is a bare bones, unclean dump of a place that should be avoided at all costs.  Sadly, this place has really gone downhill.  Up until a few years ago the Gold Country Inn was family-owned by a nice old couple that kept the place clean and the prices low...it was a basic but pleasant place to spend the night.  Then the ownership changed and the quality went downhill fast.   The rooms are filthy (hair in the sink, questionable stains on the sheets, personal items in the drawers left behind by former guests) and worn (difficult to open rusty shower door, holes in the bedspread, etc.).  In addition, the rude unfriendly manager played a game of bait and switch, giving us one price on the phone and a different one when we arrived.  We only found out later, from some friends that live in the area, that this place has sunk so low it's known to rent rooms by the hour and there have been several drug arrests here as well.  PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.  If you're desperate for a cheap room, try the National 9 Inn or the Mother Lode Motel nearby.
