this place is such a good time.  Expensive but fun.  I think I will get a second job so I can afford to go more often.

I've been here twice now, and I want to go back every week for the rest of my life!!!  One day I did Monza, the other Yokohama.  It is aggressive racing where the better line wins everytime.  I've won everytime I've gone and I really want to find a time when the pros are practicing.  I like to do trackdays on my motorcycle, but this is far more convenient and affordable at times.  A day at the track on my bike is rougly $300 in expenses.  I can do 6 or 7 sessions at go kart racer for the same price.

The track workers kept telling me not to bump the other racers, but everytime I bumped them, it was because I was on the line, and they skid out right in front of me.  There was litterally nothing I could do about that.  Fortunately, I never got black flagged, and I think they could see that it was completely unintentional.

I recommend this place for ANYONE who is an adrenaline junkie such as myself.  Expect some sore muscles when you're done.  I always come off the track with the BIGGEST smile on my face.  I "will" be going back.

Went to GoKart Racer on a Saturday for a bonding session with the guys before a bachelor party. I think my group was a little skeptical when I first sent them the itinerary to this place but afterwards we were all pretty happy. It was the first time for everyone.

Unfortunately, we didn't get on the track I wanted b/c my friends came a little late and we wouldn't be able to get on for a race. But we were just in time to rush into the locker room, get our jump suits on and see the safety video and race on another track. We were in our Karts strapped in, helmets on ready to race in less than 20 minutes probably.

After a few practice laps, we were put into the starting grid and the green flag dropped. I was surprised how fast the Karts went and it took a couple laps before I could figure how far I could push the Kart. The 5 of us had a blast chasing each other around the track.

Pros:
-Staff is great.
-Nice setup while you're waiting for a track to open up. (Games/pool/etc)
-Jump suits are cool. (Note: Get one size larger than you think you need.)
-Trash talking before and after in the locker room is hilarious. (If you're going to talk, be ready to rock.)
-Karts go pretty fast and the sound they make really get you into race feel.
-Post race printouts are pretty detailed and allow for more trash talking on the way home.

Cons:
-We were in a race with 2 people that were really not very good. They were obstacles more so than fellow racers and caused a few wrecks by just being in the way. (The race crew is really good about putting out the 'slower traffic get out of the way' flag though.)
-I almost passed out from the fumes... not the gas fumes... the fumes from my helmet. They could use a cleaning.
-The track we were on didn't have a leader board so none of us never knew what position we were running in. It would've been awesome to see real time positions.

Overall a great time. We all paid for it afterward with extremely sore bodies but we would definitely do it again. Great Venue for an afternoon of fun,

Well, whatever the others said, you should know that the cars are not all equal, even within the same color. I was pumped to be running mid 26s lap after lap on Yokohama and was very frustrated to barely stay in the mid 28s on a different car the second time around. 20% difference in performance between cars? Maybe one of the people that complain about the smoke stuck a sock in its exhaust..

I guess if you do the best you can racing the slower cars then you'll do better when you get a faster car. In the long run you will eventually learn to make the best of all cars, but if you come here once in a while then get ready for random results.

My first experience here was great. Let me break it down a little.
If you want to reserve its 50 dollars per person. Over the phone you will have to pay with your credit card. If you don't show up you do not get a refund just recovery coupons. Max people on a course is 10 people. There is a fitting room where you wear your racing clothes at and you get a free racer mask for your first time. The only thing that made me mad was the flag guys were not doing there job. Other than that it was fun

5 min of driving for getting use to the track
15 min of racing
at the end of the race they have a score sheet of who came in last and first.

I had fun half the times I've been there.  I've been there at least a dozen times half of which were great and the other, horribly bad.

Good times: nice carts, faster than they look, you can drift, or pull whatever Fast and Furious ricer stunt you want.

Bad times: had karts fall apart on me twice, one had a flat tire, the other had a wheel fallen off.  This happened within 2 laps.  I did not get refunded.

I, like the young chap who posted below me, have also been doused with gasoline all over my legs, chest, and face, a la bukkake.  I was asked to stay in my kart, where the teenage attendant ran around like a headless chicken.  Finally after a minute or so he comes up to me, replaces the gas cap, and wipes my legs with a rag.  He then tells me that I should be "All Good" and to keep going.  I don't know what public school this moron went to, but a gasoline-soaked cotton suit next to a motor that hits 250+ degrees F is not safe.

I've heard this happen a few times, as well as a lot of complaints towards the smart-ass kids that fool around there.  I'm amazed this place still exists with such low-quality safety and idiots manning the field.

Definitely not good for kids.... I wouldnt want my nieces or nephews coming here, riding around with gasoline all over them bc some high teenager said it was "all good".

I called this place a couple days in advance to make a reservation, however, they were packed when I wanted to go. I suggest calling weeks in advance for the best times! I wanted to go at around 3pm-7pm on a Saturday on the Monza Track (with the hill, windy track). I hadda change my plans the day of ended up making a reservation at 9pm. We hadda be there at 830pm and we ran late, but luckily they allowed us to still race, we came at 845pm. It was $50 ($45 for race, $5 for license) a head for a race which consisted of a 5 minute practice to see who gets the fastest time for positions for the race. Then a 15 minute race occurred afterwards. We hadda watch a video before, but none of us paid attention so during the race they kept pointing at us so I had no idea what they were doing...eventually I realized that I hadda let the person behind me go by which was a drag...next time we're not gonna listen to them lol. A group of 9 of us took over the Monza track (max is 10, sometimes 11-12 depending on the staff). After the race, we wanted to race more, but we hadda go to the club so we left. We're already talking about making another reservation and going to race again. Not too bad for $50...pretty fun, I want to go back already and redeem myself!! I got 8th out of 9..Thien got last place, you suck Thien. JK!

Despite the location right next to 101, and the outside look of the building (you'll ask yourself "Is it really here? Is it really open?"), this is a nice go-karting place. It's very clean and professional. The equipment is clean and in good condition.

It's on the expensive side, but it's worth the fun.

People say that go-carting is expensive.  I disagree.  When I'm driving, I used to speed.  ALOT.   I got a ticket from the friendly CHP...  that set me back a couple hundred, taking the day off to go to a judge, and then traffic school...  Whenever I had the urge to take a spirited drive, I've found it alot cheaper to just go here, get a couple of sessions in and go home.  The staff and facilities are top notch, after each race they provide you a print out and keep their top scores on-line for each track.

On my first time here I went here with some friends and managed to come during a lull period in the day, so we were able to do a Gran Prix...  Needless to say after that I got hooked...

In it we had a practice shake down session, about 10 minutes.

Followed by a 5 minute hot lap session, where our best time would determine our position on the grid.

Finally they went and set us up with 15 minute race.

It was a fun way to spend the day, the price for all that?  60.00 bucks.  (Of course you need to pay an initial 7.00 membership. includes a head sock as well, but it's not really a head sock, more like a piece of cloth, I actually bring my head sock from my visits to RPM in Sacramento.)

Most of us were pretty spent after that one race, however a few of us went back out to do another practice session (~ $25.00) for another 15 minutes just so we could see who could have the bragging rights with the fastest lap for the day.  We raced with people who seemed really experienced on the track, they were fast and overtook us pretty easily, still it was fun just driving against your buddy and pressuring and overtaking him...  Check it out sometime, it's quite a fun way to spend apart of a day by yourself or even better to get a group together!

The perfect place to prep yourself for the upcoming release of the Speed Racer flick.
Expensive rides, super duper fast, lots of adrenaline and funky blue racing suits.
I like this place a lot both for racing and hosting events.  I produced a corporate party here a year or so ago and talk about a fun venue for team building and cocktailing.
Although beware, no drinking and driving here!

One of my favorite things to do for fun when I was young was to jump on my big wheel and go tearing up and down the sidwalk in front of our house.  We had a somewhat steep driveway that made for the perfect drift opportunity as you reached the bottom and made either a left or right turn.  I would wear the rear wheels out in no time flat and still *CLUNKA CLUNKA* along on my big wheel like the happy little fool I was.  This place brought those memories back for me.

If you like the feeling of tearing around corners and fishtailing like a mofo with a touch of bumper car action then this place can provide the fun you are looking for.  Being a fatty put a damper on my speeding but really made the drifting much more enjoyable.  It was tons of fun being out there with my trackmates.  I would suggest trying to get a group large enough to have the track to yourselves though.  Just two *pros* mixed in with our group were enough to put a little damper in our group with their Dale Earnhardt Jr. tactics.

This place is located in a large wherehouse a stone's throw from highway 101.  They don't have their own parking lot so you'll be looking for parking out in the industrial area if you aren't lucky enough to find a spot right in front.  We happened to go on a night when it was basically half price, otherwise I would say that it's a bit on the pricey side.  You get to select from a fine assortment of color coded jumpsuits and sweaty helmets (bring your own if you have one).  A word of warning if you wear glasses, leave the visor cracked a little or else you will likely be blinded by the condensation that will form on the inside of the visor.

Another tip, go pantsless!

I'm going to make this short and sweet. I've been to gokart racer at least half a dozen times since it opened and my experience has been for the most part fairly positive. However, this last experience was an eye opener on the quality of service. If you like gokarts that leak gas all over your leg or alternatively run out of gas (yes I had both happen to me) and you have the desire to be monitored by inattentive track marshals who rather joke with each either other than use their flags, then this is the place for you to spend your hard earned money.

This place may look smaller than Speed Ring in south bay, but it has 2 tracks compared to its counterpart.  The pricing is expensive for a few laps or 10 minutes of driving, but it's worth it for groups to compete late at night or after a special occasion.  Birthday gals and guys get a free practice session on their big day.  Just remember to bring back your head sock if you don't want to be charged again.  They are quite accommodating if you forget socks and closed toed shoes.

There is ample street parking and the staff works fast to register you.  It helps when almost everything is electronic and self-service.

Fun for the fast speed freaks. It's like being stuck on top of a giant lawn mower. I must admit, I did have fun, even though I appeared to be the only senior citizen cruising along the track (no I wont speed up around the corners).

You pay $45 for a 20 min race which was plenty for me. Still, if you want to go all day, it's going to cost you.

They have an arcade and pool table too. My hand has a blister and a bruise has formed on my leg from smashing the crap out of the air hockey game in there. I'm so much better at that than racing big lawn mowers.....

It ain't cheap, but I suppose it's also not that expensive.

Any smack talkers or wannabe racers have to come here.  They warn you about breaking the rules (ie bumping other karts) but seem pretty lax about it.  Like they understand that when trying to pass on a turn, you'll probably bump the other person (which I did several times).

Since they're pretty much the only game in town, this is the place to go for some good go kart racing.  None of that kiddie kart racing.

Whooo hooo.... I love this place. But be careful, cuz they don't let you back on the track after you total your kart and have to be pulled from the dividers. Did I mention my steering wheel was mangled and was no longer useable? I wonder if that goes on my Go Kart Driver's License, hmmm....

This place has the most sophisticated "arrive and drive" karting tracks in the bay area. It has two technical tracks. Sometimes they are connected together for one monster sized track.

It is a well maintained facility that is very popular. As a result, you definitely have to make a reservation well in advance (a few days) to make sure you get a slot. Drop ins means you will be sitting around waiting a long time to get in.

Compared to Lemans Karting, GKR has the more exciting technical tracks with one even having an elevation change. The karts are just fast enough to require you to have good performance driving skills (as opposed to just street driving skills) to get good times.

This is a great place to go karting, just make sure you make a reservation.

Just a quick note to new racers:

if you're a kind of small person/new to racing like I am, wear gloves!  I gripped the steering wheel so hard and had to use so much arm muscle turning the wheel that by the end of my race and two practices, my hands and fingers were really bruised up.  I could barely move them that night and the next day and a half.

Sorry... I didn't really like this place at all.

First off, I went with a friend because I had a coupon and thought I'd give it a try.... ok.. we can't use the coupon... bummer.

Next...  oh.. I have to buy a license or register and that costs money?  whatever...

Next ..  oh.. I have to buy a little hoodie thing?  wtf?  FINE! but this is getting out of hand...

Next..  wtf?  I have to pay for the locker usage too?

Talk about death by a thousand cuts... that's this place.

Go back?  not....   expensive... nickel/diming...  whatever.

Word to future driver's of the track -- do not drive the go karts with a killer hangover after a night of heavy partying and drinking. If you feel dizzy and still half drunk when you wake up that morning -- DO NOT DRIVE A GO KART AT ALL THAT DAY --  Take it from me, I almost ran over one of the workers on the tracks because it took a while to register in my mushed brain that the yellow flag was up....

Otherwise - it was a pretty cool place. I felt like a professional driver in those hideous looking suits and big ol' helmets.  It was pretty fun driving those go karts but I probably won't go for a while considering I was a little traumatized by the fact I almost ran someone over at about 40mph. That would have been bad.  But to everyone else who haven't tried this place. Go! Go! Go!

Everytime I go here I want to throw a Red Turtle Shell from Mario Kart.  Ha, I got you Bowser!  I also need one of those rainbow speed arrows on the road.  Got you too Luigi, you Plumber bastard.

I love the intensity displayed by the douches who take this place WAY TOO seriously.  Look Jeff Gordon or Earnhardt Jr. its a freaking go kart track.  I guess once the Sparco suit and helmet are donned, people become someone different.

$65 for 30 minutes seems a little expensive, but when you can get whiplash or driving fatigue, it all seems worth it.  Everytime I leave this place, I always think about having sweated up my clothes to the point, where a dip in a swimming pool would be perfect.

I do love coming here, and I guess once in a while I have been known to try to put Emma R into a wall or give her a little rear bumper love.

On 7/21/07 2:40pm I had a very frustrating karting experience.  I know for a fact that I was faster than the person in front of me, I even have proof, my best lap time was the best out of the 10 racers (and up on best of the week) however the corner workers wouldn't blue yellow flag the person in front of me!  So for the whole 32 laps of the yokohama race I was stuck behind some kid an inch away from his rear bumper every corner except when he went off the proper line (and I stayed on the fastest line), I gain 1/2 a kart length and the next turn forces him into me and I get the 'no contact' sign.  So I back off hoping for a blue yellow flag.

I have done trackdays at Infineon and if a driver is 'riding the bumper' of the person in front of him, the instructors recognize the faster driver and tells the person in front to pull over.  I want to ensure the corner workers recognize the same thing.  I want to make sure the corner workers see the person taking the faster line and if the faster person in the back is close to bumping the slower person in front they blue yellow flag instead of 'no contact' sign.

The remedy for this problem is fairly easy, reminding the corner workers that were working on 7/21 2:40pm yokohama race to recognize the faster driver / who is taking the fastest line.

Before this visit my 1st time was great because of good corner workers.  Now I'm unsure if my $60 will buy me good corner workers or not.  Which means I'm unsure if I'm going to have a good time, which means I have to think twice about going back again.

I would like to '+1' on the '12/27/06 nicky d.' review. He said;

'The cars were a problem and annoyance, they had re-occurring mechanical and steering issues.

The staff did not have their act  together, they kept inserting the dysfunctional cars back in the pool and would pull them in the next heat (duh!). '

- That is so true and very frustrating for a real 'competitive' group.  If you get a dysfunctional car then consider using a good portion of your track time getting a new one.  Basically (sometimes) they take your money and give you a bad kart (and you're stuck with it).

Update: I just spoke with one of my racer friends and he said Lemans in Fremont is better because they actually inspect their karts.

So I called Go Kart Racer to see for myself and ask about how they inspect their cars to ensure they are equal.  The employee said, "We have 2 full time mechanics... but there are problems that they won't catch... each kart has a different # of hours clocked on each..."

Then I called Lemans in Fremont to ask how their karts are equal.  The employee said, "Inspection is done everyday, tune / set up / tire pressures are done twice a day, and a full test is done twice a week."

By their responses it's clear who takes kart inspection seriously.

This place is DA-BOMB. This is not your grand-daddy's go cart track. I grew up racing go carts. There was a track in Marin right across from where the Larkspur Ferry Terminal was. Does anybody else remember that? When the whole area was a quarry or something. Anywhoo -- our south bay brethren have us whipped. At this roadside track, they give you little speed racers one-pieces and then track your times against each other. Each time you go around you get to see how you are doing vs the others on the track. At first, you are just going fast ... and having fun. But then if you're like me, you see that the wonk from Finance is beating you and the competitive juices start to flow.  And to top it off, you're all getting a bit of a buzz from the exhaust because this place is indoors.

It's a great place to take friends to compare driving skills and have the numbers to back it up.  During the race, you'll not be able to tell who they are right away if you don't remember which colored suit, helmet or type of shoes they're wearing.  The courses are challenging and well maintained.  I noticed a larger discrepancy between the state of each go cart (engines and handling), however.  Yes, the prices are a bit steep and the 15 minute races may be too fatiguing to some.  Also, it may help to go there with a group of similarily skilled people if you don't want to keep getting slowed down by (or slowing down) other racers.  But, the biggest gripe I have is similar to a lot of the other reviews:  You'll reek of gas fumes afterward.  It really surprises me that in the eco-friendly confines of the San Francisco Bay Area, an electric go cart racing facility does not exist like down in Southern California.  Besides being less air pollutive and using less fossil fuels, the electric go carts could accelerate quicker and be easier to remotely control the performance (detuned for kids, for instance).  In general, I would recommend GoKart Racer to any person wanting to practice countersteering, four wheel drifts or taking the best line through a curve without litigious consequences.

If you enjoy racing and your in the bay area go there. with this place theres a bunch of signs everywhere it pays to look at them. I've hit a few track so far and even though there are nicer facility the track is what counts. my kart was ok so i asked for another and they were fine with it, i was able so pull in and grab another but i still got beat by some guy who's really high on the list chuck taylor! but whatever he's been there hella times. tues when i went seemed like a good day its called a triple shot buy 2 get the third off. oh and they have enduro events its kind of expensive but hell 50 mins of track time. if you ask the marshals will help you out they gave me a few tips just be nice and they respond well.

This isn't the kind of place you take someone who doesn't like speed or for that matter, being humbled by a bunch of old racer guys in fancy suits with their name on the back. This is strictly racing, down to the nuts and bolts. Many racers come here especially on Supertrack days (I'm one of em) so if you've never been racing expect to get your ass handed to you. Yes, it's expensive, the boys in the pits don't give a shit and you probably won't find your groove at first but damn if it's not a total blast!!! Don't put up with having a bad kart, bring it in if it's slower than everyone else's even while you have the pedal pushed to the floor and you weigh half as much.Don't forget gloves and sensible shoes. A few tips... try not to over-steer, let the wheels straighten out after a turn, watch the line the pros take and remember this, fast in, slow out, slow in, fast out.See you out there!!

Malibu Grand Prix is to Chuck E. Cheese, as Go Kart Racer is to Dave & Buster's. Racing for adults that's waay fun and you will see sides of people you've never seen before. Angry, testosterone-ridden, competitive as hell, and that's just me.

Tip: it gets hot in the cotton jumpsuit they give you, so if you sweat a lot, then strip to your undies. Gross, but they wash the suits anyway. I am an old lady and am always cold, so I kept the jeans on underneath and was fine. I also recommend taking off rings as you really want to grip that steering wheel.

P.S. Your arms, wrists and fingers are BEAT afterward.

P.P.S. If you can, try and study the map of the tracks so you know where to turn and what to expect. You'll have a one-up on your competitors.

Must shower now--I smell like eau d'rubber and gasoline. HAWT!

This place was SO much fun!!!!!

Never mind that I came in 11th place (out of 11 people *gulp*) in all three races and have the very detailed post race stat  printouts to prove it!

Never mind that we all smelled of gasoline for the rest of the day!

I wouldn't exactly say this makes for an ideal team building event, as it doesn't exactly encourage team spirit. Let's just say that after the race, we all knew who was highly competitive, and who wasn't. Apparently I drive like a grandma but I'm very polite.  Anyway, my group had a blast and we'd definitely like to make a return trip sometime.

Doreen from Go Kart Racer was very helpful and helped us set up our reservations. We were also able to add more time (extra race)  the day of.

Great for a company event or with friends.  My logic leads me to believe that it would be absolute best with friends from work.  Naturally.  And that's who I went with....

Race is pretty exhilarating, competition is fierce (with my group, at least), and the physical toll the next morning is so much greater than I would have expected, but that's OK.  The pain that is still resonating in my body is all for glory and sport.  My lats are sore (from the seat?), and palms and fingers feel bruised (from gripping the wheel so tight), and my hip and leg muscles feel somewhat contracted from the tension of the whole experience.  Quite a workout.

You basically get to dress up as racers, wear helmets, talk smack to your friends/co-workers, and kick some ass.

Good times.

DAMMIT DVD!!!!  How many laps do you get blue flagged before you let me pass!?!?  A blue flag means you have to let the quicker drivers behind you by.   Its all good though.  Once I got by, Luis got trapped behind you for a number of laps, thus allowing our gaps to increase.  I WIN!!!!!!

Had a weekday off and came here with afew friends.  Not at all busy that day, so we got in right away.  They've got an arcade  with pool tables and an observation area for those with suspended licenses 8). There was an instructional video shown before our group ran.  We've already been to LeMans Karting down in Fremont, so this was nothing new.  Even though the karts arent "true" karts, the races still get competetive.  Need to go back sometime soon.....maybe with ten or more peeps....should be fun.

HOLY CRAP THIS IS TEN TONS OF FUN!  I needed plastic surgery to tear the f*cking smile off my f*cking face when I did this with work back in October.   Word to the newbies or non-car-conscious: learn how to countersteer.  When you start to skid to the right, steer to the right to regain control.  We hate running over you. :)

In my sock drawer, one of these things do not belong. I have a head sock! Thanks Go Kart Racer! In case I'm ever in need of a head sock I am well prepared. Yeah and I could throw it away because who really needs one on a daily basis, but that would not be "the value".

But this is a really great place. You get to wear these jump suits and we took silly pictures with the helmets and socks on. And then you actually get to race against people, instead of the Malibu style where you only get to try to get best time. It is kind of expensive for the casual racer, but if it was for a team building it'd be awesome. The carts I believe go up to 40 mph.

A good place to get the competitive energy out between you and your friends, and a new sock to take home and remember the occasion by.

-the girls were in blue (size s), the suit color depends on sizes to my dismay, i wanted to be black damnit but then i'd be swimming in that mofo
-the boys were in black with one green jelly bean
-the chic in the video looked really happy to be there and looked like a melting sara michelle gellar
-you get a head sock that you can use later to rob a bank
-we brought our own helmets to find out you need ones with eye protection
-the helmet colors also go by sizes...sported the small mello yellos
-off we go, i crashed within the first turn hahahaha
-there are 3 courses to pick from but we's new aite...chill son
-damn, i was cruisin while my friends were zooming past me
-i was paranoid about the rules, they wave flags to communicate to your ass cuz of the noise, of course this was all on the video with the melting chic in it
-it was fun, i felt like i was gonna tip over so many times
-being a near death experience survivor from 3 major car accidents i think i did well bbwwahahahaa

Okay, let's get it straight, this place does not deserve all 5 stars.  HOWEVER, if we are just talking about track options, pricing and overall facilities, then, yes, 5 STARS all the way.

Sorry to say that the staff is pretty horrible.

For people that have never been there, it's pretty difficult knowing exactly what to do and the logistics aren't explained very well and the staff makes you feel incredibly stupid.  I organized a corporate event for a bunch of managers that didn't really know what to expect and although they had fun, the staff was quite rude to them and I had to explain things to my team.  Seriously, prior to setting up a race for yourself and a bunch of friends, know what to expect and ask what the procedures are.

Last thing, expect men who want to live the NasCar/Formula One racing fantasy or watched Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift a few too many times to be in the locker room with their own racing suit, helmet and head sock.  Other than that, the facility is pretty awesome but beware of staff.
