***QUITE POSSIBLY THE PERFECT EXPERIENCE****
First things first. I am horribly picky. HORRIBLY PICKY (ask my poor mother--how she put up with me I will never know...Thanks Mom!)...
Julia Gogosha and Mary. Honestly--I think they are Angelic. I cannot remember being treated so well. The moment I entered Gogosha I felt like family.
Julia and I first discussed the type of glasses I am interested in--and she was all ears--because without ears, Julia cannot help your eyes. She absorbed all of my bizarre and cryptic thoughts--peppered with random concepts of what I desire in a frame.
Out comes a small black platter and her trusty orange marker. "BRAD" gets written along the top and Julia begins her dance through her minimalist/modern displays--carefully selecting a number of frames I may have never considered or seen. She then places the platter on the counter and encourages me to go through the inventory on my own and select MY choices.
But let me point this out--the above interaction is accomplished with ZERO pressure or intimidation...rather a feeling of genuine thought and care that I am informed of MY options. There is a HUGE difference between making a client aware of choices and shoving expensive goods down one's throat.
Together we go through various options, talk about everything under the sun...and after a while I have come to my conclusion--custom of course--because I'm a freak like that.
Now on to Mary--the other lovely lady behind Gogosha. Not only is Mary a highly knowledgeable/intelligent woman--she is a damn stylish fellow Pisces--so listen to her thoughts when you visit Gogosha. These two women will not allow you to make a fool of yourself and walk out with goofy looking specs.
After ordering my glasses Mary was in touch constantly with the pertinent updates. So on the ball--it will alarm you to think of what we put up with at most retailers--Gogosha is so above and beyond that they raise the bar on EVERY customer service experience you will ever have--so prepare to be let down after purchasing--and this may be the only fault of GOGOSHA--that they make everybody else look impotent and/or just plain dumb.
SO my glasses come in. Mary sits me down and carefully examines the fit. She then CUSTOMIZES the frames to PERFECTLY fit on my face! THEN proceeds to clean them and instructs me to return when in the neighborhood to hang out--and of course--bring my glasses in in case of any discomfort/needed service!
Oh...and today. I get a thank you note in the mail from Mary!
GOGOSHA specializes in the best frames on the market. Optical and Sun Glasses. Their prices are not above what should be expected for glasses in this price range ($$$$).
If you are in need of sun/optical glasses and are OCD like me...AND demand the best--there is no alternative. Trust me. I shopped around prior to purchasing from Julia and Mary. The competition--well...they have none.
SO here's to the APEX PREDATORS of OPTICAL EUPHORIA!
Thank you Gogosha Optique!
(PS...Mondays CLOSED...by appointment only...)
If you can afford it, go here! The frames we liked were $595 and the sunglasses frames were $495, and that's without lenses. You don't know my life probably, but droppin' 1500+ on two pairs of glasses was not possible with my lunch lady salary, so we went with a cheaper (still hawt) pair of frames and decided to postpone the sunglasses hunt for now. There's a nice range of prices, but keep in mind that this place can get real expensive.
I went here with my boyfriend to get him some new glasses and sunglasses, and it was such a great experience. We made an appointment with Julia Gagosha, the owner, and during the hour she helped us, I witnessed something I never knew existed before; someone who is VERY talented and passionate about selling glasses.
At this place, finding the perfect pair of glasses is a very personal and serious process. There are a lot of really cool glasses here, variety and a vibe that seems to promise you'll be much more hip and successful when you leave.
Julia created a tray of glasses based on my boyfriend's face and head shape (he has an alien shaped head, but like the cutest lil alien).
He tried on each pair, first looking at Julia for her approval to proceed, then he looks in the mirror and decides if it goes in a "maybe" or a "no" pile. The eventual "maybe" pile is tried on again in the full length mirror, using comparisons to narrow the pile even further.
The thing that's great about Julia and this process is that she understands glasses and faces, and wants you to look and feel good. Some of my favorite options she picked out were frames my boyfriend or I would've never considered. She welcomes your likes, dislikes, concerns and opinions, but she can help you even without much input.
If you don't like someone giving you an honest opinion or if you think you'd have a problem with her telling you flat out, "No. Not those. Don't even look in the mirror," then you should not go here. You should go home and do some affirmations.
But if you can handle some honesty from a professional with taste, go in and trust her like you would trust a talented hair stylist to give you the best do.
For the most part, I stayed quiet and let Julia run the glasses show. I'm also a big fan of my boyfriend being his own person and not crushing his personality with my own bullshit. A few times I vetoed an option, mostly during the sunglasses hunt, because I don't want to be reminded of T.C. in Risky Business- because we have a history. I'm not allowed in the Celebrity Center anymore.
I love Julia and the whole crew. They are so helpful and repaired my vintage glasses when I thought I'd never be able to wear them again. I'd eat my lunch at gogosha everyday if they'd let me.
I happened to walk by this place one day on my way to eat at the Vegan Spot (tear, I miss you VS). I had been wanting some new frames and thought, what the heck! Why not!?
The second I walked in I was greeted by Jose who sat me down, assessed my face and set off picking out about 15 frames for me to try on. The second he started talking about my facial symmetry, I thought, "Oh crap, I'm buying a pair of glasses. I'm hooked." And I was.
About the 6th pair in I found 2 frames that had walked straight out of my dreams. Their selection is bar none the best in LA if you are looking for really unique frames that aren't branded to kingdom come (if you want Chanel plastered all over your face go to Linden in Pasadena).
I've never experienced not being able to choose between two frames that I loved equally, I've always had to go with the best thing I could find. I've been shopping for glasses from everywhere to Lenscrafters and Target to Aspen Optical and ever darn fancy pants eyeglass place from here to Hong Kong.
Gogosha, while pricey (hence the absence of the 5th star) is the best service and selection in Los Angeles for eyewear connoisseurs, period.
Julia Gogosha is the greatest thing to happen to eyeballs since the retina.
The selection at Gogosha is mindblowing, and Julia's as much a stylist as she is a shopowner. Her helpful suggestions and friendly persona (echoed nicely by everyone else there) make taking stylistic chances with your peepers a real delight.
Product here is high-end, but not stratospherically or needlessly so. Kirk Originals, Theo, Orgreen and more are all represented here in force and with dynamic color and style selection.
Wonderful, wonderful wonderful.
I've had a Yelp account for months now, but this is the first review I've written, because Gogosha is the first establishment that I've been to in a long time that I've wanted to recommend to everyone who will listen.
They spoil you. I went in there scratching my head and not knowing what to expect: "I'm looking for some new frames." In no time, Julia had sat me down in a chair with a cold drink, labeled a tray with my name using a florescent marker, and begun this wonderful "flight of the bumblebee" maneuver around her shop, collecting frames she felt were suitable. She returned to my table with a dozen picks, then leaned forward with interest, studying each set as I tried them on.
The store's stock is edgy, and without Julia's help I would have written it off as "too cool" for my style, but I ended up finding a terrific pair that I am thrilled to go pick up tomorrow. The girl knows glasses, is as friendly and sweet as you can imagine, and she is incredibly gifted at their line of work. Check them out.
I randomly stumbled across this place on their opening day because a friend lives in the building above...
Totally rocked my eyewear world. The owner, Julia, casually picked up a few pairs for me to try on, and all of them were just awesome and fit beautifully. She really has an gift for matching frames for your face, style etc. These are not your standard Prada blah frames in every optician's place in town. I fell in love with a pair of Anne et Valentin frames, and went back about 3 times to oogle and try them on. Definitely above my budget (about $700 altogether), but they are just too rad to complain about the price -- and a note about craftsmanship: the lab took the time to fit my sort of strong prescription seamlessly into the frame, and I can go in anytime to get the frames formed to my sort of bumpy skull ;P. I can't wait to go back for sunglasses.
Just try it, you will never go to the blah eyewear places on Beverly or Main street again.
I was really impressed with the service I received from the owners. I started trying on frames from the flat file case, which was the best way I've ever seen glasses displayed, it made shopping fun. She stopped helping another client for a brief second to let me know that I should try on a pair of frames in the third drawer, upper right hand corner in the light tortoise shell color. They ended up being the exact perfect frame for my face. How did she do that from the other side of the room? I was mystified. She is great at knowing which frames go perfectly with your face, personality, etc.
The only reason I didn't purchase my frames from Gogosha was the price. I had a budget of $600 for two pairs. I would have blown my entire budget on one pair with lenses here. So if you've got a little more money to spend on a pair of glasses and appreciate excellent customer service then I would highly recommend Gogosha.
The laser eye surgery that I had five years ago was beginning to deteriorate, and I found myself needing some specs to drive safely at night. (My Laser Eye Center review will be forthcoming--and much less glowing). I visited Gogosha and spent a pleasant afternoon trying on different frames and figuring out what worked for me. Julia has a discerning eye for which frames work for each face type, and she takes the time to listen to her customer's preference.
Julia Gogosha is a true artist, an optical visionary. She's stocked her store with impossible to find frames, and she'll spend the time making sure you end up with the perfect pair.
Don't be deterred by the fact that Gogosha offers high end and unique products. Julia and her staff could not be more warm and helpful. And unlike a pair of shoes, eyeglasses sit front and center on your face--they're the first thing people notice. Plus you'll enjoy these styles for years. Let yourself get hooked on the world of high fashion eyewear at one of the coolest stores in LA.
Best customer service I've received in any industry in quite some time. I've been looking for glasses for my giant head for awhile and have been very disappointed in everything I've seen. Until I went to Gogosha...where I had to chose from three different frames I really liked.
Be sure to wait for the woman who runs the place. She spends time with you, studies your face and brings you a bunch of options. I chose a frame I never would have picked out for myself, that I'm really happy with.
It's a little pricey, sure, but it's more than worth the money to deal with a knowledgeable saleswoman who is obviously excited about what she's doing.
Great place. With lots of sunglasses too.
gogosha is the place to go, especially if you're looking for something to well frame your face. Julia will take one look at you and pick out the perfect selection of glasses that are fun and fitting. The frames are well priced, i compared them to other vendors. I do think that their lenses are a bit pricey but I didn't have mine done there so I can't sit here and say it isn't worth it.
Without question the best eye glasses experience I've had. The owner, julia, makes the prospect of getting glasses (for the first time) super smooth. I'm very impressed. I was able to find the ideal frames in 35 minutes -- (yes, she + her staff take the time: no rush). It's not a "sales" experience, it's a bit of a journey. well done. This is classy product however, so FYI.
I went on an optical escapade yesterday. My first stop was Gogosha Optique, a brand new boutique in Silverlake, and by doing this, the bar was set very high for the rest of the day. The owner, Julia, was an encyclopedia of knowledge in terms of finding the perfect pair of specs to suit your style and shape of your face. This is clearly her passion and she really knows what she is talking about. The store has a very unique and extensive selection of frames, all from really cutting-edge European designers. I fell in love with a frame that was way above my price range, but that has not stopped me from fixating on them since then. By the end of the day, I felt humbled and schooled in the art of optical design. If you are looking for unique eyewear, be it sunglasses or prescription, this is definitely the place to go. There is not an optometrist on-site, however if you bring in your prescription they will do the rest.
