Looking for a way to beat the summer heat without leaving town? The arboretum at Sac State is just the place to enjoy some quiet time outdoors. An easy bike ride from midtown, the arboretum is a three acre oasis of shade and tranquility. As you enter from J Street, it's the first thing you see on your right.
Bring a good book, and relax on one of the benches, or wander around and learn about the...um...trees. And plants. It's practically deserted during the summer, but the grounds crew keeps it well maintained. If you're coming from midtown via Folsom Blvd., stop by Corti Brothers on the way and pick up some picnic goodies, if you're so inclined. On the way back, you can treat yourself to an ice cream cone at Burr's Fountain, or head to Mr. Pickles for a Merlino's orange freeze.
