I like how this place is categorized as adult entertainment, just wanted to say that first of all.
This place doesn't do anything special, its just the best damn cheese you ever had on pizza, I don't know if they sprinkle some crack on it but its simple, not fancy , regular pizza that just taste great.
No I was not drunk, or starving. This place is great for a quick slice anytime.
This is for deliver only
the important thing for a delivery is that they are prompt and the Go Getters' guy got good timing.
This pizza is one of chunky toppings and medium mid range crust and an average sauce. I like my toppings sliced thinly which doesn't mean it's better that way but it does mean I'm not likely to select a pizza from here in the near future.
Their delivery menu is quite expansive including pastas, salads, a lot of appetizers and some other meals which may be good; I don't know yet.
How does a pizza place count as "Adult Entertainment"? Anyway, The Pizza and pastas here are friggin delicious and well worth the price here...if you stop by and order!
Best pizza in Hayes Valley hands down! there's really no other "real" pizza in Hayes except for a decent one at Stellene, but that's besides the point here. Slices are a full sized meal, they don't mess around with small portions for anything. The plus of this pie is easily the crust and the cheese.
A little tip: Never order the full pizza unless you are having a party at home, it can be hit or miss and you usually have to throw slices into the oven to bake fully. Slices are the way to go since they rebake them in the oven for a nice dark crust ahead of time. Usually delivery items aren't as good as pickup here.
We eat here often because the price is right and Go Getters is open late. We've had multiple items off the menu and the standout aside from the pizza is the lasgana...it's probably good for 3 to 4, it just takes some time to cook up.
Three things to keep in mind to truly appreciate this low-ball score: 1) My buddy and I were desperate and STARVING for a quick bite before hitting Martuni's, so any sustenance *should have been* nom-nom-nom-terrific. FAIL. 2) The slice I got was so laden with grease and government cheese that it tasted like feet ... and became friends with the trash can after just two bites. FAIL. 3) I think it must be a prerequisite for working here that you master the art of giving every patron the stink-eye as they approach. EPIC FAIL.
I wasn't too impressed. Big greasy slices that have been sitting under a heat lamp for a couple hours.
:(
I try them once a year or so... for the past 10 years... to see if they get any better... and... they don't.
They say they have the best pizza in town, and I think they might actually be right. I haven't felt that close to NY since I was in, well, NY.
Even the attitude was right.
Sure I've had better pizza. I have also paid more per slice. However, Go Getters offers some of the largest single slices I've encountered in a very long time. And some great varieties too, like a pesto spinach. I did have a mushroom slice and could have used more mushrooms. Great for a pick-me-up and conveniently close to Market--I was visiting the area with a friend before a performance at the Conservatory of Music, so glad this wasn't far away at all.
Noticed their restroom door had an out-of-order sign during my visit, so be forewarned!
Wow this was one of the worst slices of pizza (if you can call it that) that I have ever had. I love pizza and this was not pizza.
The place is a kind of hole in the wall which does not bother me especially if I am just stopping off to grab a slice of pizza. My problem was not service or atmosphere it was purely the pizza.
The pizza was so salty I could taste nothing else but salt. I looked under the slice at the crust and it had huge amounts of salt. It looked like instead of using corn meal or oil to keep it from sticking while cooking they used salt. Into the garbage the pizza went I only regretted I had no time to go back in and complain.
Absolutely atrocious delivery service, and piss-poor food to boot. We were told 45 minutes, and had to call back three times when after waiting TWO HOURS our food had not yet arrived.
When we complained to the manager, she offered to knock a whopping TWO DOLLARS off of our bill. I said that given the circumstances this was a ridiculous gesture, and that we were never ordering from them again. Her response: "Okay."
Beyond the delivery experience, pasta dishes were pretty bland, accompanying garlic bread was soggy, and I've had better pizza in SF. Not worth the two hour wait, that's for sure.
Bottom line: don't waste your time with this place. We'll be sticking with Escape from New York from now on.
I had a totally blase delivery experience from here, which is becoming a trend, sadly. Either I've exhausted all the good pizza delivery places in my part of the city--which would be truly truly sad--or I've just hit a nasty slump. Hopefully, this one won't keep me out of the Hall.
Cheese isn't that hard to do on a pizza. Thousands of places do it every night, and although its flavor and texture vary depending on its age, quality, the length of time it's spent in the refrigerator, etc., it's generally pretty easy to get it to stick to the crust. Bake it for a certain amount of time, and it will happen. The laws of physics are the same at every pizza place. (I know, My Cousin Vinny reference. I'm sorry.)
So please do the cheese correctly.
I will say, though, that the black olives were really tasty. I ordered them to get to the $15 delivery limit, but it really was a good choice. The pizza was really good cold the next day, which is the true test, but I'm still thinking about lowering this rating to two stars.
Well, if you look at my other reviews, I am par-tic-u-lar about my pizza. Yes, I am spoiled by Enzos. But let's put Enzo's aside and, rather than compare Go -Getters to Enzo's ( which is really an exceptional pie) I will compare this to your typical "street" pizza (it's only fair and can u tell I am trying to sound all hoity-toity about pizza? This is on purpose because I am tipsy right now, you should have seen how long it took me to spell hoity-toity correctly).
That said, I really do like this place because they are generous with the CHEESE, have a decent crust and sauce that tastes like actual sauce. Okay, so it wouldn't win any awards, but it was definitely better than that POS I had in Dallas.
This place does not put on airs. AT all. They are simply a pretty good local dive-y place pizza, at a reasonable price and I am still trying to figure out who puts corn (an option here,I am NOT kidding) on their pizza!
After walking from the ballpark to Market, and then up to city hall, all in order to just find Dolores Park, my friends and I had a drunken realization: we were lost. Really lost. And we had walked far too much. So I took the reins, ran ahead, and stumbled into Go Getters to ask for directions.
We're retarded. We were literally a step or two from Market St. again. (Though thankfully, not as retarded as a couple of our friends, who we lost on Polk but somehow were on the other side of Market when we found them.)
Thankfully, the people working there were nice enough to point out the obvious without too much of a smirk.
However, tired drunkies need food, and goddamn did it smell good in there, so we decided to stay and eat dinner. We each got slices of pizza, and did my pepperoni satisfy? Hell yes. Sure, the crust was dry and it had been sitting out awhile and my first bite took off half of the cheese, but this place was a greasy godsend nevertheless.
Decent pizza, but I really need to get a better sense of direction. And to stop drinking so much.
I am very particular about pizza and this place is pretty damn good in my book.
I was walking from Hayes Valley to the Mission and I was hungry and stumbled across this place.
I went in and got a couple slices and had low expectations. To my surprise this place turns out some decent slices....good crust, good sauce, and good cheese.
Decent pizza, quick delivery at a good price.
This place is much better than Escape From NY Pizza. Crust is consistently brown, the sauce and cheese are very good. There's been some discussion here if it's good enough to call NY Pizza. Hell yeah. If I still lived in NY and this place was in my neighborhood I would go there. The crust is not really thin like Victors, but it isn't at all thick either. I'm glad I found them, now I have one more place that's going to make me fat as hell.
So far best take out pizza in SF has been Victor's on Polk and now Go Getters. Escape From NY has really jumped the shark. They escaped and just kept going.
All I want to say is that the sign out side and their logo belies the flavor of the food.
There was recently a fire in our neighborhood that we went to watch. When we were done rubber necking, we went here for a slice. The by-the-slice selection is mediocre and the glass box that they are stored in is not very appetizing.
I had a pesto spinach. I found that it had an amazing amount of cheese and a great tasting crust.
eh. We ordered delivery, it arrived long after the promised time. The pizza made me sick to my stomach. My husband ordered a steak requested medium rare, it arrived well done. Then there was the salad.
Do you know when you taste something, sometimes it tastes exactly how something smells, even if that something is not edible? My husband took one bite of the spinach salad, and his face looked horrified, and he spit out his bite. He is not a picky eater and will eat just about anything. In his words, that salad tasted exactly how a filthy public porta potty smells. Almost like the cheese was rotting so they squirted some bathroom cleaner in it to make it better. It was rancid.
Of course I thought this was an extreme exaggeration, so I smelled the salad. Well, it also smelled how a filthy porta potty smells. Needless to say, we won't be ordering from there again.
Usually after spending hours walking aimlessly around the city - my boyfriend and I will come here, grab a slice of pizza and sit by window - people watching (and cracking a few jokes about the "fecal face dot gallery" across the street) before calling it a day and driving back home...
The slices are freakin huge - (I eat mine with a fork), really good (but really greasy..yikes!) But then again, if you're concerned with eating greasy foods.. you should not be eating pizza :P I think next time I'll try some of their pasta..
I'm not sure how the delivery service is but every time I've been inside - the service was fast & friendly! They are open late - even on Sundays, so that's a plus!
The "lobby" is very small - only has about 4 tables and there are very close together, they have a huge mirror on the wall that makes the place look bigger - which is pretty sweet but I would not recommend having a huge group come here.
Maybe I'm just a bit biased when it comes to Go Getters. After all, I've been eating here since I was a kid; I've lived in the neighborhood for the last 15+ years or so, and it's always been one of the best pizza places around.
Sometime around 2002-2003 they must've changed ownership or something because these days the place looks and feels completely different despite having the same name, location, and even a few of the same people working there that I've seen from way back when. For the most part, they're the same old Go Getters. Which is a good thing.
The pizza here's always been pretty good, especially when you order a whole pizza as opposed to a slice. The slices are large, but incredibly thin considering the rising costs over the years, but the whole pizzas are heavy with melted, greasy cheese and a deliciously thick crust. The grease factor may turn off those looking for healthier alternatives, but - naturally - if you eat it in moderation (I tend to go for pizza every two or three months or so) then it's fine.
The big drawback to eating here is that the place has always been so damn small. There are like, four tables total, so if you go in a group you might be a bit uncomfortable. It's best to get some take-out.
Personally I still find it hard to go anywhere else for pizza when Go Getters is not only close, but GOOD. These days it's really hard to find better pizza for cheaper.
Go-Getters advertises itself as "the best slice of pizza in San Francisco" or something like that on its signage. I may have to pursue false advertising, because in any definition of the word "best" Go-Getters doesn't come close.
First of all, the cheese wasn't even melted all the way. I lurve me some cheesy stringy pizza that stretches halfway to the Haight on my pizza, and Go-Getters was having none of that.
Second of all, it was one of those slices where you take a bite, and all the toppings come off with the first bite. I HATE that. I EFFING HATE THAT!
Third of all, the sausage (and I consider myself a pig-product connoissuer, thank you very much) was clearly not of high quality.
And it's presentation - the store looks like its pizza - gristly and dirty and unfriendly.
Go-Getters ain't go-gettin' any more from me, that's for sure.
I'm a lazy ass...
-- I don't get up from the couch unless I smell gas...from the stove, that is.
-- I get frustrated when the remote is six inches out of reach from my hand.
-- I contemplate about whether I need to go to the bathroom until it doesn't become my decision anymore.
But I have a confession to make...yeah, another one.
Sometimes I just like to have a roast chicken and pick at it for dinner. I don't mean just a leg and a breast like a normal person. No, I mean a WHOLE chicken. Thankfully, I don't finish it off, I can't...I just pick at it until I have some left for chicken salad later in the week. If I think of it, I remember Safeway has them in those plastic containers in the refrigerated deli section.
But on a couple of occasions, I have ordered one from Go-Getters Pizza through http://delivery.com. It's not horrible, just a bit dry by the time the guy gets it here. It comes with an oily brown bag of French fries, a big hunk of buttered garlic bread and a side salad. It's $12.80 for the dinner, so the price is not bad. I've had less success with the barbecue ribs. While they give you four good-sized ribs and the same fixings for the same price, the sauce is way too sweet and ladled with a shovel. I prefer when the sauce is slow-cooked into the meat.
I have tried their House Special Pizza once. For about $20, you can get a 14" medium for two with your standard ingredients - pepperoni, salami, mushroom, onions, bell peppers, olives, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon and oddly, feta cheese. There is nothing terribly exciting about it, just the same pizza you can get at about a dozen places who are willing to deliver it to you.
So if you're a couch potato who can't be bothered with baking your own chicken, there are worse things you can do than get one from Go-Getters. Besides, semi-homemade Sandra Lee - who is herself 70% store-bought and 30% real - told me it was OK to get a ready-made chicken, and I have to believe her. After all, she is the alcoholic empress of lazy assness.
FOOD - 3 stars...a whole roasted chicken at your door...now I'm set for watching "Dancing with the Stars"
AMBIANCE - n/a...I have no idea what this place looks like from the inside, though I've driven by it on Gough...hmmm, not promising
SERVICE - 4 stars...they are among the fastest when it comes to delivery, and they never complain about all my stairs
TOTAL - 3 stars...it is on the mediocre side, but hey, that's what you deserve for not getting up from the couch
I am *obsessed* with the BBQ chicken from Go-Getters. It is drippy with good sauce, falls off the bone (heh, I said 'bone') and is very, very, very good. It is the crack of the BBQ chicken world... I am addicted. I am a BBQ chicken junkie, people.
Yu-and-um.
It is five-star chicken.
However, the delivery service from Go-Getters is no-getter of the stars for this business... It took them an hour and a half for them to deliver my food. Whaaa?
By the time dude showed up with my chicken-crack, I almost had forgotten that I was hungry in the first place.
What the heck, Go Getters? Did you have to go out and kill the chicken for my dinner? Seriously - how can it take an hour and a half for you to deliver the chicken-crack I so require on an intimate Saturday nite between me and my Netflix? It doesn't even take me that long to... I could have gone to your restaurant, ordered and gone back to my apartment in half the time it took your delivery guy to bring it to me... meh.
Not to mention I hear the actual restaurant is kind of a hole... I hear the bathrooms are gross, etc. Good thing I only ever order delivery from them so that my OCD tidy self doesn't have to deal with the reality of a gross restaurant with awesome food... oh, choices - you are so hard.
Boys and girls, the lesson of the day is: "Rusty gets older; they stay the same age."
Occasionally I'm in Frisco doing new construction for Pete's Heating and Cooling.
We're working a job over in Hayes Valley right now. Every now and then I leave the Coleman at home and splurge at Go Getter's Pizza.
Every bangin high school chick is here and the pizza is hot and tasty.
Today the line was long but I was occupied by this Junior in front of me. She wasn't all that hot, but there's something about high school girls. She was wearing tight sweats slung low across her waist, minimal muffin top was popin out the sides, and the top ends of her loins were visible when she turned around to see if it was really Rusty breathing down her neck.
Hold on it's my turn at the counter-- "Two slices of sausage please for the young lady with the nice ass"
Damn, I'd knock the dust off that poo say.
I'd heard good things about this place, including "the best NY pizza in San Francisco" from a former NYU student. So I had them deliver yesterday after work. I was unimpressed. The cheese seemed kinda cheap. Otherwise, it was a typical, average pizza. Didn't particularly resemble NY pizza, either.
What I did like was that I ordered through their website (there was no final confirmation page, but I called and they did get my order), and it was at my door less than half an hour later, and that's nothing to sneeze at (though keep in mind this was Wednesday afternoon at 5).
Deja Vu is still the closest I've found to NY pizza, and Go Getters isn't particularly good, but you could also do a lot worse.
Nothing special. Fine pizza. They messed up my delivery too.
A completely average cheap slice of pizza and its address is "69"? Count me in. It could save your life AND make you laugh.
Better they should call this place 69-Getters. Now THAT sounds prosperous.
I just discovered this pizza place last week, and have already been there 5 times, LOL. That's how GOOD it is. SERIOUSLY freakin' good.
I should mention that I LOVE greasy pizza, so if you like it too, this is the place to go. It's also REALLY tasty though. I ordered a small pepperoni, and it was actually more like a medium size. Cooked to perfection, the sauce is really good, not too much cheese, etc.
I'll continue to eat here again and again. I also love that it's walking distance to Martuni's! SCORE!
I ordered a small pizza and garlic bread. When the order came, the pizza's crust was burnt and the garlic bread was nowhere to be found. This is the first time I've had pizza delivered where the crust was burnt. How does that happen?
The perfect combination pizza slice past midnight. It was really a crap shoot...I was driving home, there was a spot right in front, and pizza suddenly seemed like a great idea. The cheese and toppings are YUM~!
When craving a NY style slice, Go Getter's never fails.
But it really excels when ordering pasta for delivery. Many times I have ordered the lasagna, and it is delivered hot with tons of cheesy goodness. The bf and I have ordered it with a side salad and been satisfied with our order, not easy to do with two big eaters such as us.
Last night I ordered the eggplant parmigiana, and he ordered fettucini alfredo. Both were beyond yummy- we ate more than we should have. And the garlic bread! Well worth the bad breath!
Inexpensive, yummy, and fresh and hot to your door- if you live in the area, it's an easy dinner.
The pizza is mediocre. Service is fast. It's close by me and cheap so it gets a lot of my business.
Update: I went in at 9pm to order a combo slice and they said they were out of slices, and suggested I try another kind. I asked them when they closed and they said midnight. The cooks were in the back eating pizza. I left, and when I got home, thought about it and called them up.
I asked why they didn't just make more when I asked, and she said they would make more for me, but that they stopped making slices around 11 (it was 9??). I walked back and got my slice, which was exceptionally greasy, to the point I didn't really want to eat it with the rivers of grease dripping off of it. Not impressive.
Update 2: It's still a favorite of mine and has gone well ever since, so I'm going to bump it up a star.
Its close to my house but it took me a year to try it out and will be a good number of months before I go again.
I am surprised others compare it to NYC pizza. Having grown up there, I wouldnt say that. I would say this pizza is not awful.
You get a wide slice, good value for your dollar but not NYC pizza.
The dough is rather tasteless, the cheese, um, subpar but ok by SF standards, the sauce, clearly not homemade.
I wouldnt have a pizza delivered from here. I like my friends and want to keep them.
Growing up in the area i use to grab slices of pizza here. A slice of it is good but buying a while pizza not that great. there are other places that you can get better pizza i think. They been around for a long time so people must like there pizza. I have not been there recently so maybe it has changed allot. I am not sure if I will go back there anytime soon but if you like a slice on the go than go for it.
Go Getters puts something addictive in their sauce.
Okay, so maybe its just garlic and basil, but it is good!
The thin crust pizza is the perfect snack late at night on the way home from the bar/show/club. They are open late and have relatively inexpensive slices. I hear they also sell other food there, but I haven't investigated the truth of this claim.
I'm in it for the pizza!
The best deal I've found on the menu: Pizza Sandwich.
You get to choose three toppings, they make it fresh for you when you order it, and it comes with a salad. All for five bucks.
It's made for many a lazy dinner on late worknights. Woot!
If Go-Getters wasn't two blocks from my house I'd probably never go there. The pizza by the slice is descent when in need of a cheap fix. The crust is either too stiff or too soggy...it really depends on how long the slices have been sitting around. I usually get a slice of pepperoni and/or a slice of Hawaiian and am set for a lazy evening of staying at home watching movies and feeling bloated from greasy pizza indigestion. Good Times.
Sometimes this place is yummy... But my last order took 1 1/2 hours to be dielivered and my calzone was missing half the ingrediants. WTF? Oh yeah, and they tried to overcharge me.
As they say, ignorance is bliss. Had I known about the filthy bathroom, chances are I'd never have called for home delivery, which is prompt, and enjoyed the pizza, which is very good, seems larger than most, and is reasonably priced. But now I'm wondering - how clean is the kitchen if the rest room's that bad? It stands to reason that one can't be antiseptic if the other is a pig sty. Then again, I haven't died, or even gotten sick, so until I do I guess I'll keep on calling, especially when it's late and everyone else is closed.
I'm not a big pizza by the slice fan. This is not particularly good pizza. It's better than Cybelle's because the crust is better and the sauce is redder, which is better. But it's really oily. Really really oily. Not too bad when wasted though.
