I'd been getting my hair cut at the beauty school for over a year, and my haircut was.. fine. Boring, but fine. Chin-length, all-over soccer mom layered bob. Okay. But then came the day when I couldn't get an appointment for another month, and if I had to wait that long I'd take garden shears to it myself. "Okay, self. Time to go to a real salon." Based on the high recommendations from Yelp, I booked an appointment with Sarah.
Well. Now there's no way I can go back to the cheap beauty-school haircuts, and my wallet may be hurting for it but my head is thrilled! Sarah listened to my desire for a funkier, shorter style, and gave me a cut that works great with my very fine, thin hair- very short and messable in the back, short on the sides and chin-length in the front with a sideswept bang. I don't chat much in the chair, and she was cool with that. She gives a very fine head massage too (hey, it's the little things).
The atmosphere in the salon is relaxed, laid-back, and chill. Edina the dog wandered in and out, and all the back and forth chatter was friendly and relaxed- nothing worse than being stuck in a chair with catty stylists snarking back and forth across the room. I'm going back to Sarah for highlights in a couple of weeks.. haven't colored my hair in years and I'm psyched to see what she can do with it.
I just got a terrible hair cut and I am so bummed. I read the reviews of this salon and had been looking forward to a great hair cut, but it was not to be. After years of going to the clipper cut places my wife convinced me to try a real salon. So, I did and now I regret it.
Getting to the place isn't hard, although there isn't much of a sign to let you know that you've arrived. The receptionist was efficient, but not particularly friendly. The lady who washes your hair was pretty unenthusiastic, but she was pleasant when I said thank you. At this point I still wasn't questioning my decision to give Glynn Jones salon a try.
When the older lady who cut my hair politely asked me how I wanted it cut I thought she would listen; it turns out she didn't. I asked to keep my hair long, but she cut it way too short. I asked to keep the same style, she changed it to one so boring and conservative that if Dick Cheney had hair, he'd probably be a regular customer.
So I paid up and left a tip, but for what I really hoped would be a great experience and a fantastic hair cut, Glynn Jones salon is surprisingly more like the hair cuttery. I wouldn't suggest anyone under the age of 30 go here.
I'm a regular now. Obviously I love it! The pricing is great, and Little Debbie works my hair to its best potential.
I also am digging the Kevin Murphy product line Glynn Jones carries.
I'm deducting a star for a scheduling/receptionist snafu; when the Welshman wanted a haircut and the GJ Web site had a coupon for $10 off men's cuts, we called to schedule him with Debbie. I said that we don't have a printer at home, but I could print it out at work and the lady said that it wasn't necessary to do so. But when Welshie went in for his cut, they said he had to have the print-out. Bummer.

Azita did my hair and makeup for my wedding and I loved it. Everyone told me I looked gorgeous and I felt like a princess. I'll definitely be going back for other services.
I just got my color done by Tim and he did an AMAZING job! I had bad highlights and wanted an all over dark chocolate brown. He got the color perfect.
The salon itself is very nice. Bright and busy. The majority of clients appeared to be regulars - always a good sign! The front desk was cheerful.
This is the 4th salon I have tried since moving to the area in May and I think I finally found a salon to stick with.
3.5 stars
I had highlights and a haircut here. I had high expectations after reading all the glowing reviews and while my hair was done just fine, it's nothing to rave about. I had an appointment with a senior stylist and my total bill was over $200. After having my hair dyed and highlighted at various places - Bang, Angels, Aveda, Aveda Institute, VSL...this was the most I'd ever paid for highlights and it doesn't look as good as my other highlight jobs. I was looking around at the other women getting their hair done and some of them looked just fabulous. Mine, not so much. I have dark brown hair and told the stylist I wanted to go several shades lighter. I picked out the shade. The end result was kind of orange-y strands interspersed with my dark brown hair. All the other highlights jobs I've had in the past were blended much better and looked more natural.
EDIT: I was contacted by the owner of the salon who kindly offered to have my hair corrected by the most senior stylist there. He was very professional and constructive about the situation.
I have been seeing Cori since I was around 17 years old, and am now 23. She is absolutely amazing (and extremely talented)! Every time I go I end up giving her a big hug because I am so happy with what she does. I always leave feeling truly beautiful and radiant. Glynn Jones is an extremely well run salon, with great employees. If you are thinking about going there, you definitely should- you will leave happy!
My hair was a hot mess. It had been over-texturized, so that as the upper layers grew out, the lower layers pushed them out into a big pouf. Between the curl, the texture and the fact that I was trying to grow this out, I looked really really bad. I wanted to see if someone else had any ideas. Thanks to Yelp, I decided to try Glynn Jones salon. I saw Sarah today. We discussed my hair, including ideas that she had, and that I had. We finally decided on heavily trimming the back, while lightly trimming the sides and top. She used a razor, explaining that the bevel cut the razor provided would allow the layers to lay flatter, avoiding the dreaded pouf. My hair is no longer a hot mess, and I look good, really good! I'll be able to grow out my short locks with some semblance of order. I'll be back to see Sarah, so she can guide the grow out.
A couple of things to note-street parking only. That means feed the meter, or opt for more expensive garage parking. And gratuities cannot be charged, they must be cash. So go prepared-you're gonna wanna tip!
This place... rocked my hair off!
Seriously, my hair was cut most magically.
After having an incredible experience with Ziba at the spa of Glynn Jones (brazilian wax, only $45, very very professional) - I decided to make an appointment for a hair cut. My locks were looking most devastating, considering I was swimming in a mess of dead ends, split ends, and uneven ends... in short, all my ends were fugly.
My appointment was made with Kat - a spritely, creative young lady who took me in graciously and gave my hair a good (and much needed) cut-a-roo. She was very cool and down-to-earth, and could tell right away what cut would serve me best after studying my hair for only a few short minutes. The atmosphere is very light and jovial, with no back-stabbing gossip or whispered jokes between the stylists at their unsuspecting customers' expense. Maturity and respect were on-point here, with overworked dramatics no where in sight.
I was so pleased with my experience, that I'm going back in a couple of days to get some color done. Kat had a lot of great ideas on colors and techniques we could use... did I say I liked this place?
Okay, so in finality & summary -- Waxing, A+ Salon, A+
I went and got partial highlights and a layered cut from Sarah. I was VERY nervous because I have never had highlights before, but I was SO happy when it was all finished. It looks very natural, which is exactly what I wanted. Sarah definitely knew what she was doing and was very friendly.
The only thing I didn't like was the sometimes annoying techno music in thebackground, and it was pretty pricey. But I will definitely be back for a touch up in highlights in May.
I first went to this place because of all the great Yelp reviews, and I have to say- I wasn't disappointed! In fact, Sarah totally exceeded my expectations and gave me the best haircut of my life. I have difficult hair to cut well (it's very thick and pretty long), and Sarah knew exactly what to do- she knew what would look the best on me and executed it perfectly.
I second the comment about the Kevin Murphy products. I use the Motion Lotion and it's the best product I've tried for my semi-wavy locks. No, it ain't cheap- but you use such a small amount at a time that I get as much out of one container as I would out of several bottle of mousse. So I figure it's a wash, money-wise.
The reception staff is also really friendly! Even when I'm the last customer of the day and the salon is closed, they never have a nasty attitude (unlike some other salons I've been to in the past).
I've become a regular here, and I highly recommend Glynn Jones!
After spending years bouncing around to pretty much every possible place in old town, I've finally landed at Glynn Jones. Many places in old town are very pricey and rushed. However, the prices at Glynn Jones are competitive and they (well, my guy is Tim) really take their time.
WELL ... I found Glynn Jone because I am cheap and they sometimes offer semi-free haircuts to help train their newbies. I made a Friday appointment for a trim and color and I LOVED the special treatment - wine, long shampoo ... it was really great ...
but then again, I go to Hair Cuttery on the regular, so take my review with a grain of salt. :)
Best haircut ever.
I was extremely late for my appointment due to a string of events both unfortunate and out of my control (but called to let them know). The staff at Glynn could tell I was a little stressed out when I stepped through the door and were nothing but super accommodating. They scheduled me with another and I only had to wait 20 minutes.
Cori was super sweet and literally gave me the best haircut I've ever gotten - perfection in layers. I have gotten so many compliments, I really look forward to my next haircut by her.
As a NW DC resident, it is definitely worth the trip to Old Towne for the service at Glynn Jones!
I went again to get my roots touched up and wanted to go drastic with the color by adding CHUNKS of hot pink and blond. I really wanted REALLY drastic. I left with my hair damp and curly so was unable to see the end result in the salon. I hate 99% of salons only include the blow dry with haircuts! (Really makes no sense when color cost more than the cut!) Anyway I'm used to it, I went home and blew it straight and dry. The highlights and pink oddly did not go to my roots. Also I have A LOT of hair so it is important to get the coloring to fall at the part. The pink was totally lost, no chunks of either just blended wisps. Not the drastic change I was looking for. I wish the salon I used to go to carried unnatural hair colors,"Allure" in Kingstown. I am remembering now that "Yorka" dared to do the HUGE chunks of blond I desired. I'll call them and see if I can bring my own color, I'll probably continue to go to "Little Debbie" for cuts then jump on over to "Yorka" for color!

The Front Desk staff is fantastic. Tim gives the best wash/blow dry in the area. After years of searching for a consistently great manicure and pedicure, I found Zeba. Like another reviewer, I came across the street from PR Partners when I could no longer tolerate their rudeness and incompetence.
I just moved to Alexandria from New York and was looking for a new hair stylist. I have since been to both Debbie and Tim. Both were great and really understood how to style my hair. I will most likely stay loyal to this place as long as they remain affordable and I'll probably return to Tim, since he did such an amazing job. I highly recommend this place.
great place! i got a haircut, highlights, and blow dry and was out of there for $140-- far less than other places i have been in dc, and with far better results! i sat in the upstairs area, near the spa services area, and it was nice and quiet. downstairs seemed much more hectic.
my boyfriend even got talked into a pedicure and a facial, and he cannot wait to go back and see Ziba!
