Review from Sarah S.
Wakefield, MA
Ladies. LADIES. If you have not already booked with Sarah L., go do it now. As in right now. Do not pass go, do not collect $200 dollars, just do it. Okay, you did it? Good. I just returned from another appointment with her, and I am officially obsessed. She's helping me get my butt in gear to swear off shaving (can I count that as a belated New Year's resolution??). It's as painless, quick, and thorough as a brazilian can possibly get, and it feels kind of like you're just hanging around chatting with a girlfriend...if said friend was a waxing genius. Sarah is just too awesome, and sent me on my way with a gratis waxing because of my last Yelp review. Who does that?! Sarah and Glow do that! It was just the cherry on top of a fabulous experience, and such a genuinely sweet thing to do.
So: I solemnly vow to toss my razor and be a faithful waxer. And I solemnly vow to recommend Sarah and Glow to everyone!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Jess C.
Abington, MA
I had an appointment here on a Saturday with my friend and called to let them know we were going to be a few minutes late as we were stuck in traffic. I was rudely told by Jessica that if we were "more than ten minutes late" we would not be able to be seen. When we arrived five minutes later, Jessica once again said that since we were late, they can only do half of the work because they were closing in ten minutes. We ended up leaving because this didn't sit too well with us. Clearly this place doesn't care about their clients! We had the decency to call and explain we were in traffic and they didn't value our time enough to stay five minutes late. I don't care how highly rated this place is, I'll never go there again. It's not worth being treated badly. Thanks for nothing, Glow.

A friend and I made an appointment this past Saturday for a Brazilian wax at 3:40, which was confirmed via email. We were running about 5 minutes late so we called the office and were greeted by a very rude receptionist. She stated that if we were more than 10 minutes late the appointments could not be done. We walked into the salon FOUR minutes late and were turned down by the receptionist. She said there was no way that a Brazilian could be done in 10 minutes. Seeing as we were only FOUR minutes late, there shouldn't have been a problem. Very unprofessional, will never book here again.

Not impressed. It's your stereotypical salon full of unprofessional catty women. Keep your conversations trashing your friends, clients, and coworkers to the back room not the front desk!! The service is sub par, not the best and not the worst, but the persnickety fake demeanor of the staff proves to be effort lost when true colors are shown.
They boast their online system but don't trust it, you think you will have appointment but instead of contacting you to make arrangements when your appointment request is declined your left putting in all the effort trying to get in with your "glow girl." You are often given an attitude if late for your appointment, but don't expect to be seen on time either!
There are far more other high quality salons with similar pricing that I'd rather due business with. -

Don't trust their online booking service. Apparently it requires a confirmation from them, which isn't clear from the instructions on the site. Waste of a trip there.

I LOVE this place. Karen is SO fantastic and sweet and makes my brows look perfect every time. I'm always impressed when she remembers exactly what we were chatting about the last time I was in or what's going on in my life.
You can conveniently book appointments online and everyone is always very friendly. I've also gone to Sue and Marisa and been completely happy with them, too.
A brow wax is $16, bikini $24, brazilian $40. A little pricey for the 'burbs, but worth it for the pleasant and painless experience. The hard wax ("blue wax") is the only way to go and it's still less expensive than a lot of salons in Boston. -

I love love love Glow! I've been going here for, probably, 7 years and don't anticipate ever finding a new waxing place. My only possible suggestion would be to accept tips on credit cards - I never have cash on me.

**AIRBRUSH TAN**
Seeing that I used to work as an airbrush tan artist, I am SUPER picky. This is the only place that I have been pleased with as an airbrush customer. I have seen both Shelly & Sue and have been more than happy. The color is even and natural, and does not stink!!! These ladies have great experience and make you feel really comfortable.
Definately get in there for an airbrush tan!!! -

I tried Glow because I just moved to Quincy and it was kinda ridiculous to go all the way back to Allston for a wax. It had been months since I had a brazilian so I knew I was going to be in pain. I'd only ever had experience with strip wax before and I have heard wonders about hard wax being better so I was excited to find a place that does the hard wax inexpensively. I do miss paying $30 though.
I had a great experience there. Despite all the snow, I was able to find parking pretty easily and I think it was just my luck. All and all, this was the least painful wax I have had not counting the initial shock of the first strip (since it had been so long).
This place was a bit confusing to me though. I had never been there before but I wasn't asked if I was a first time client so that the layout could be explained to me. I wasn't sure where to wait and I just kind of wandered til I found the waiting area. The other main concern is I didn't know how to tip. I went up to pay and they charged my card for the exact amount and told me to have a great day. And my aesthetician was no where in sight so I didn't know how to get her a tip at all. I was too embarassed to ask because they treated me like I had been there plenty of times before. So if anyone knows how to leave a tip here could you share? I have another appointment coming up at the end of February and I would like to double tip this time to make up for it.
Bonus points for telling me that if I booked a return appointment at the end of my visit I would get 20% off my next visit. and even more of a bonus is February's deal is have a brazilian and get a free eye brow wax. -
Review from Tamar A.
My experience at Glow began all the way back in the dark days of January 2010, when Groupon was a fresh, unknown up-and-comer, a 2011 expiration date seemed an eternity away, and my tender hair follicles were curious enough to seek out waxing in Braintree. It continued as I squintily navigated along 93 S in the snowy cold, forcing myself out of bed at 8:30am on a Saturday to get the last possible appointment I could before my Groupon expired, damned if I lost $30 even as I risked my very neck. Such is life in our social network marketing age.
Fortunately, the trip was pretty much worth it. My waxer, Kellie, was a sweetheart of biblical proportions. She waxed with long strips so as to quicken the process, and gave me the first (and I'll wager only) upper lip wax that didn't make me want to bite my arm off. As it has been mentioned that blue wax stuff is kinda actually the painless miracle they say it is. Alas, the "high frequency" hooha...not so much. I broke out worse than ever after the facial waxing and the promise of technology saving the day, but that just might be my own stupid skin, and not the fault of the process.
Pricewise, I spent $30 on the Groupon (which covered $60), and still shelled out $50 for full leg, bikini, face, and eyebrows that were decent, but not, shall we say, brilliant. I would recommend this place to Braintree residents who don't have any cheap hole-in-the-wall options. Factoring in gas and 35 cents per mile wear and tear, a Groupon-less grand total of $110 is overpriced, no matter how you slather on wax and rip it.Listed in: Waxing Poetic

I have to laugh at first at reading some of the trash reviews people throw up there about this place. First off, if you are going to go trashing someone, or in that case an entire business, why don't you square away yourself first? Like learning how to spell, or realize that their are different types of waxes that don't require strips, and if you don't want your hair to grow back in four days, don't tweeze between waxes-- no brainer there.
As for the girls title they are "aestheticians" not "technicians" as I have read over and over again in other slanderous reviews, technicians would be those people that probably have no qualifications for what they are doing, and are practicing under a fake licenses.
Anyhow. I am staying strong with loving the service the Glow girls give, I have been seeing Jen for years now, and recently started seeing Kellie here and there also. Jen has always done an amazing job at any wax or facial I have gone in to see her. As is Kellie, I LOVE Kellie's make-up application style, and for someone who doesn't wear a lot of make up that's a big compliment coming from me! I like that every time I go in, the girls, knowing me, know what I expect to come out with, needless to say I am always a happy camper. I would complain about price if the quality wasn't there, but like I said, I always leave satisfied.
As for the desk girl, leave her alone, unless that place is dead, cut her a break, that phone is always ringing off the hook, she's checking people in and out, and confirming all those online appointments. Next time if you have a coupon speak up on your way out, she probably didn't forget who you were, just that you mentioned you had the coupon, given the fact that she probably talked to 25 people between the time you walked in and out the door between phone and face to face time, you have to keep in mind she's only human...Listed in: Secrets I share..., My Neighborhood

I have been here for facials and waxes only. I think the people at Glow are very friendly and helpful. They always help me pick out the best products for my face. They don't just direct me to them but actually come over and talk with me about why it will help my face. They always do a great job with facials and waxing and do exactly what I ask.
They are a bit over priced though. For an eyebrow wax, they charge $16 whereas there are many other great places in the area that charge much less. Their facial products are about the same price though. -

5 Stars for the Brazilian wax with Sue. I kid you not when I tell you it is an almost completely pain free Brazilian wax experience. I have talked up this wax to every one of my girlfriends, because I feel it's my duty. It's fast, almost painless and really thorough. Plus, Sue is a hot ticket so she will chat you up while she strips your follicles and you're in and out and on your way before you know it. I will never go anywhere else until they force me to.

I went in for a Brazilian. I have never had one and I was super nervous! The shop is cute and cozy. The staff is really friendly. And Sara L was great. She explained everything and she was really easy to talk to, which really put me at ease. Waxing is waxing and rarely pleasant. But all in all, the Brazilian Bikini wax was much less painful than I imagined it would be. Sara L is very good at what she does! I have already booked my appointment for next month!

Been going here for years and have been seeing Jen the entire time. HIGHLY recommend her! I go regularly for waxing, and also have had facials and also the airbrush tanning they do by hand. Loved both. Everything is always perfect. I almost always use the online appointment booking option, but when I do call they're always so nice on the phone! Plus, they offer coupons on the website for different things each month!

Waiting .... half- naked I sat there wondering if this was really how I wanted to spend my Saturday morning.
Let me start with I had been working an overnight shift when I must have grown a brass set , and was just loopy enough from mild sleep deprivation to think that getting a Brazilian wax was a good idea. So after doing some yelp research I decided that Glow was the place for my inauguration into one of women's most barbaric beauty rituals. Plus one star for the fact you can go to their website and self schedule your appointment at 3am, for the next day!!
Cut to eleven hours later, I stroll into the salon for my 2pm appointment with Jen; receptionist very nice to me when I check in. The waiting area is cozy and filled with women awaiting their various means of beautified torture. I sit down and my name is almost immediately called. Plus another star for being on time.
We entered a small but cute room, and I stood their anxiously. Jen decided we would start with my eyebrow waxing ( yes a short reprieve from the inevitable). Jen was awesome she made small talk, and made me feel more comfortable. My eyebrows came out looking great. Then she said to me the dreaded words " OK so just remove everything from the waist down" and left the room.
Nervously I sat on the table, she entered and got to work. Once again she was great, she explained what she was doing what I needed to do. Before I knew it, it was over; yes it was painful but not nearly as bad as I imagined it would be. She was so cool it totally made me feel less horrified about being half naked in front of a virtual stranger who I had only met ten minutes before.
All in all great experience, or as great as that experience could possibly get. I might just become a convert. -

So I know this is a spray-on tanning place... but I went for the waxing. It was my first time. It hurt like hell.
That said the place was very clean and, though I don't have any other waxing experiences to compare it to, I'd imagine that the process was as painless as possible. It was very fast! (Thank god.)
They have a lot of other services, too: facials, peels, make-up and lashes... oh, and reiki. (Hmm.. random?)Listed in: Essentials

Review from Shaleen T.

Horrendous! I knew this was not going to be a good experience when the very first thing the technician did after introducing herself was try to sell me on a brazilian wax. This was my first time there! Give me a moment, you know?
I had a Groupon for $60 that had to be used all at once, so I had a face, arm, and stomach wax. I told her, I don't care about my stomach, but I really care about my eyebrows. Somehow she only heard the first half of that sentence. My .stomach ended up looking ridiculous with a discrete line across my belly button. That was annoying but not a huge deal.
My eyebrows, on the other hand... I told her I liked my shape and only needed them cleaned up, she shouldn't worry about reshaping. How hard could that be? I could have done that myself and should have. She used this awful gloppy wax and spread it uncomfortably low like close to my eyelids (why?? I have no hair on my eyelids) and did a terrible job. I was getting a wax that day because I was going camping for several days and wanted to have nice eyebrows. When I checked a mirror FOUR days later they were a total mess, not cleaned up at all. What kind of wax grows back in less than four days?
My arms and sides of face turned out fine but one disturbing moment occurred when I had a drop of blood on my arm. I know that can happen sometimes, so I wasn't freaking out or anything, but I pointed it out to her and just wanted to blot it or take a moment or something, and she said, "Oh that's not blood." I said, yes it is, and she said, "Oh no, that's normal." I looked at her blankly and she said "Well not NORMAL, but it's just a speck of pigmentation". A speck of pigmentation!? Shouldn't a cosmetology expert/aesthetician be able to recognize blood?? Either she couldn't or just thought I was stupid. I was disturbed.
Overall, the wax was painful, ineffective, and sloppy. I have no idea how they have such good reviews. Maybe I just got Jen on an off-day (it was the night before a holiday weekend) or maybe they only treat people with Groupons badly. I also noticed that a lot of reviews for Brazilians are good and eyebrows are bad. So I guess it depends on what service you are getting. I would never go back, personally! -
Review from Gretchen S.
Braintree, MA
I went here a long time ago (5 years +)when it first opened and had a horrible experience the woman who waxed my eye brows must have never checked the temp on the wax because it burnt them and I was peeling all around my eyes. I looked like an idiot for at least two weeks.
Fast forward approximately two years ago, I got a gift certificate for Glow so I thought why not try it again (crazy i know) this time I went in for an underarm wax....just in case it went horribly wrong again I could hide it this time, oh and made sure they checked the temp. Well it was okay nothing special but getting waxed kind of sucks anyways.
Decided to be wicked bold a month after that visit and get a bikini wax with the remainder GC, the technician was nice, wax was okay.
I have not been back since, there are def other places around B-tree that are better and cheaper for waxing. Some people rave about this place but def have heard multiple people being burnt by the wax in the past. -
Review from Aimee S.

This is my favorite salon of all time!
I started coming here in 2004 when I discovered they charged half of what my old salon charged for a Brazilian. They also advertised their use of a "special blue wax", which was supposed to hurt less than the traditional strip wax. I thought that was a load of bunk since getting the hair ripped off extremely sensitive parts of the body is going to hurt no matter what, but it actually was less painful! The blue wax doesn't adhere to your skin like strip wax does, so there's less of a chance of getting skin ripped off along with the hair.
The staff here is great. Everyone is extremely friendly, and they treat all their clients very well. The estheticians know the names off all clients, not just their own. It's very clean, too. I had a facial once which was so relaxing I fell asleep. I understand they just added spa mani/pedi services too, and I can't wait to try that out.
In addition, they were also recently voted number one on CBS's A list! -

Ah... nicely shaped brows. :0)
Thanks *in part, at least!* to the rave reviews Glow gets from fellow Yelpers, I made an appointment for my teenage stepdaughter and I to get our brows waxed. *Yeah, getting hair ripped off around your eyes is SUCH a bonding experience.* We both saw Alicia, and she was freakin awesome. Extremely quick, efficient, precise and pleasant, we totally loved her. She shaped/groomed our brows to the perfect *natural* shapes, and worked so quickly, it really was virtually painless. The prices are also very reasonable *$14 for brows*; I had been paying about $7 more than that at another salon, where the shape was just never right on. The salon itself is very comfortable, clean and welcoming. Glow is definitely my go-to place for brows from now on!Listed in: Yelpers ROCK!

As a woman who has been waxing her eyebrows for 10 years, I think I have a good idea of what is I want. Overall, I came out looking perpetually surprised because of my pencil-thin, high-placed eyebrows. I have a good shape to my brows; I just needed a touch-up, but the woman never even asked what I wanted. She just slabbed the wax down and ripped. The whole process was very short. Also, maybe I am just not a fan of the blue wax, but I felt as if the esthetician was just pulling pieces off and then sticking them back on my face as a place holder.
Positives? You can book online, they sometimes have monthly deals...
However, I do not recommend. -

This is the only place I get my beauty on.
It's clean, friendly, and cheap.
I see Jenn for my monthly bikini wax & she is AWESOME. Seriously a cool chick that gets the job done. Love the blue wax!!
They have a variety of services, waxing, mani, pedi, facials, tanning, etc, etc.
They send out monthly e-mails & every month they have a sale on a special service they are trying to promote for that month. And the girls know their stuff - which is refreshing.

This place was pretty cool..... the staff was friendly and it was clean. I got my eyebrows waxed. The girl did a good job, especially where she had never waxed me before and often a takes an esthetician a little while to get it right.
I did not do the spray tan whereas i would prefer to have somoeone spray me instead of a machine.... plus when you have to blen it in yourself it doesnt always come out great. -

Great Price....Fantastic Service!
Never let anyone tell you that a Brazilian does not hurt...It HURTS!
However, Jennifer did mine (it was my first time)....
And, seriously, getting over the embarrassment of exposing yourself was the hardest part.
I was sore that evening, but the next day I was smooth as a baby's bottom!!! It was SO worth it for my Cruise vacation.
She made the whole process as pleasant as it possibly can be.
I definitely recommend her and she does FABULOUS eyebrows!
Also, the salon was very clean, private, and non-intimidating. -

I too have been going to Glow for several years. I have had the waxing here in the past, and although it was still painful, it seemed LESS painful than other places.
I have curbed my waxing a bit because I am in the process of having laser hair removal (yay!).
I also have done the spray tan with hit or miss results. Sometimes it sprays nice and even, and sometimes it is a mess. It must have something to do with either machine maintenance of the tanning gods have gotten angry with me....anywho, whenever there is a problem, they are quick to offer a solution.
Also, Shelly, the owner, is super nice! :) -

Glow is the best!
I see Jen for everything, she's awesome. Their prices are reasonable and they provide a clean, fun and casual experience. Whether you're getting your eyebrows waxed or other more intimate parts of your body, the result is quick and less pain than any other place I've been.
They use blue wax which is wayyy less painful than the strips and their prices are way cheaper than Elizabeth Grady or any other wax place. Jen does the best eyebrows and really pays attention to shaping them. Also she recommends products you should buy to help enhance your skin/tan/color in your eyebrows but doesn't push them on you too hard either, just suggests.
They also can do makeup applications or if you want a quick way to change up your look they'll throw Fake Eyelashes on you before you go out for a Friday night.
They are now doing online booking as well which is super easy. Make sure you make an appt ahead of time though because all the girls schedules fill up quick. -

Glow is good stuff. The space itself is nice and I like that there is off street parking behind the building. The rooms at Glow are comfortable and private. Prices are reasonable. I also love that you can schedule appointments on line through their website. Very convenient for all us girls who are chained to a desk all day.
Sue S. is the go to girl for all your beauty needs. She has been doing my brows for years and also did my make up for my wedding. Definitely go see Sue at Glow!! -

I've been coming here for years. Mainly for the Brazilian. The blue wax is really something else! I will never get a Brazilian done w/o it!!
I've had appointments with a lot of the girls-- Alicia, Sue, Jen, Marisa. They're all great. Alicia is by far the fastest. She literally got me out of there in 10 minutes. They all chat away as they wax you...kind of nice to have some distraction.
Bottom line: Stop the mindless torture!! Only get your Brazilians done w/blue wax! -

I went here on the suggestion of a friend and while I enjoyed the person who waxed my brows. The wax used was different than what I've been accustomed to, it was the Blue Wax that peels off. It hurt, but not too bad. The shape of my brows were good, but there were 5 or 6 little bloody spots where the skin had been ripped away, and there was a lot of the blue wax left around my eyes. I've never had that kind of thing happen so I'll probably not go back there again. Maybe I'm just old fashioned? *grin*

Glow is one of those mist-tan places. It's close to the Braintree T stop, which is convenient if you are not of the automobile-having persuasion, a la moi. The staff is really friendly, and if it's your first time doing spray on tanning, let them know! They'll be ever-so-helpful with the procedure. Tanning without guilt rules!

So, I went to Glow this past Saturday to get my eyelash extensions done and I couldnt be happier. The salon was very clean, the girls were super friendly and Alyshia (spelling?) did an amazing job on my lashes. I already made an appointment for my touch ups in a couple of weeks.
The room she did them in was private, and quiet and the bed had a warmer on it so it was super comfortable to just lay there and get the lashes done. She gave me info on how to maintain them the best to get the most out of them each time you get them done.
Beware: Its not a cheap process but this place does it the cheapest in the area. 150 for a full set and then 75 for touch ups. To me its worth it because I can roll out of bed, throw on some eyeliner.. and head out the door and still have that doe-eyed look. Love it. I dont wear a lot of makeup and I hate how long it takes me when I do, so if you are like me-- this is the perfect solution. Dont get them done if you cant take care of them and maintain them though... its too expensive. I personally think its worth every penny, but I understand its not for everyone. They do so many other things here too, and I cant wait to try some other things there. The eyelash extensions took an hour and a half plus some, so make sure you are able to block off at least two hours, to make yourself relax a little. Expect to be there for a while, and I am sure if her and I werent gabbing so much.. you could easily catch a snooze. Keep in mind you cant tip on your credit card, so bring a check or cash for whoever is doing your service. Thanks to the girls at Glow for making my first visit a great one! I will see you in two weeks! -

In the last year or so, Glow has added a lot of additional services to their existing ones. I've been there a few times to get massages, as much for relaxation purposes as for health purposes. So I went to a "spa" closer to my home to get an underarm wax & brazilian. The underarm was fine, the brazilian was terrible.
Ugh, I don't even know why i would bother going somewhere else. Not only was it bad but i paid $77 (tip not included) for the 2 services combined, when at Glow I pay $72 (tip not included) for eyebrow/lip, underarm & brazilian. I won't be making that mistake again.
As far as I know Glow is the best around. Reasonable prices (compared to other places closer to me), Great Staff, and they offer a million different services. It's not just waxing, facials & spray tan anymore...you can get your make up done, fake lashes put on, teeth whitening, hand held spray tan, massages, & manis/pedis!1 Previous Review: Show all »
