BTW the first review is a way over dramatic. I had to write something b/c there's was only one review and it was negative and not  true reflection of what you can get at Gloria's in Allston MA.

I've been going there for close to 2 years now and they give nice manicures and hair treatments. The service is friendly and the women  try their best to make you leave there looking great. Yes, they mainly speak Spanish but they DO speak English- the last review sounded like it could've been written by an agent from ICE with the patience and human-interaction skills of a bratty 7th grader or something, sheesh.

Granted, it's not comparable to a salon on Newbury but for the price ($35  for wash, set and blowdry) and quality of products and what you leave looking like- totally worth it! If you've ever had your hair done from stylists from the Dominican Rep. you'd know how good they make you look! It's always crowded when I go with a diverse clientèle who all leave looking better than what they came in. They do have a menu now  (I believe they opened in late 2007 which may explain the reason they weren't as "professional" for the last reviewer) as well as a modest website. This one is the proper link -

Go with an open-mind some split ends/outgrown cuticles and they'll take care of you for sure:)

Oh my DEAR GOD, I beg of you yelpers...DO NOT use this establishment.  Long story short version...I never ended up getting any service.  Long version, read on:

I would give this place NO stars if possible.  Anyway, Saturday afternoon I dropped into Tedeschi (across the street) and notice this little place.  I've moved out of Brighton so when I come back and there is something new it's semi-exciting.  Plus I am ALWAYS on the look out for any sort of beauty salon with Sunday hours.  What is UP with no Sunday hours in the burbs???? I see on the window they now have "new Sunday hours" so I figure I'll walk over after I do my shopping and ask for a menu of offerings, prices and hours.
I walk in.  The atmosphere looks ok.  Terra cotta colored everything, ladies in matching lime green polos.  It APPEARS pretty professional.  2 ladies gab at the counter.  1 addresses me.  (Let's say they are both of Spanish/Puerto Rican decent just for accent and looks purposes)
Lady #1-Hi.  Me: (After looking for a brochure anywhere) Hi.  Do you have a menu of what you offer here with prices? Lady #1- *Blinks at me, then shrugs shoulders* Me: You know...like a list of what you do?? A menu with prices? Lady #1-Shakes head vigorously and looks at Lady #2.  Lady #2 looks at me.  Me: Motioning like I'm opening a brochure...Do you have a list of prices? Like a menu for what you do? Lady #2 with "you so crazy" expression.."We a beauty salon.  You want restaurant! It next door"--motions for the door to me.  These are times where I really have to pause at the absurdity of my life.  I MAY have rolled eyes.  Me: No.  I don't want a restaurant.  I want a beauty salon with a list of the things you do here and how much they cost.  Lady #2 and Lady #1 begin conversing in another language and Lady #1 walks off to find someone else.  Motioning "one minute" the whole way.  Lady #2 makes mad face and disappears to the back too.  I think OK....they are getting "the one that speaks English"...maybe Gloria herself!
So outcomes Lady #3 who may well be Gloria.  To spare you anymore reading, suffice to say I do the same act again.  Lady #3 says: Nnnnnnnnnnnn No.  OK AN ANSWER! It strikes me as bizarre they have no brochures and nothing on the wall to say "pedicure $25"...even the grossest and weirdest places in all of Allston/Brighton have at the LEAST got that down and speak more basic English.  (Pick color).  Then she goes "what you want"? SO.  I say "ok well I thought maybe I'd drop in on a Sunday if I knew how much stuff cost, but I guess not..Thaaaaaanks" and turn to leave.  She starts to say something about Sunday hours start at 10am...so I say "ok, maybe I'll come back then".  I mean I just want OUT now and this is getting really stupid and all three women are looking at me like I'm a retard.  I turn to leave and she is still trying to sell me a pedicure if I'd only tell her what I want and when....I say I'm all set, turn and leave.  As I go I hear TWO very LOUD "ESSS CUSE ME!!!!" and I vow to never put myself through this shit ever AGAIN.
**The most crazy part of this review is when I went to look up the info, the website is really well put together!**
