San Francisco, CA
Are you kidding me? This is one of the most incredible markets I've ever been to. This place is like the Mike Tyson of 87'; shorter and more compact than other competitors, but packing a much more powerful punch.
This place is a medium sized market that basically has everything pertaining to fresh amazing goodness.. Their produce selection is simply abundant. Their olive oil selection is deep, Their wine selection is beautifully presented and deep.. Et cetera, et cetera.. We asked the person working there, where their plastic forks were. And they were in some specially designed case. My friend looked at me and said, "the better question would be; is there anything they don't have...?"
They also have a he-uge back deli with tons of fresh fruit, paninis, sandwiches, hot soup, chinese food, pizza, pastas, mexican food (burritos mojado), and a salad bar that is unmatched. Seating is available inside and outside for your daily dining pleasure in the valley of the moon...
This place makes me want to never set foot in a whole foods again... Hmmm, that sounds like a plan. -

Great place to pick up a picnic when we were out wine tasting.
This store is perfectly tailored for tasting groups on the go. They've got a great selection of sandwiches and paninis at the deli, a regular hot and cold deli counter, large salad bar, huge drink selection, lots of chips expediently placed, etc.
Given how many people were trying to pick up lunch at 1pm on a Saturday, the service was surprisingly fast, and our food was delicious. The paninis were more than enough food for one person, and very moderately priced. -

Recommended to us while in Glen Ellen by the our wine educator.
Come here for an affordable brown bag or picnic like lunch to go. Order from the deli where they make sandwiches of your choice. The sandwiches are huge, so if you're not extremely hungry, could easily share one between 2 people with a side. -

Awesome sandwiches. Better butcher - they will go out of their way to get you unusual cuts, marinated meats are great, seafood fresh and with a good selection. Produce is always top flight. The selection of high-end items is really astonishing given the small size of the place and the fact that it really is the local village market. Whether it's chocolate, ice cream, cheese, freshly baked breads, spices, the salad bar, supplies for baking or canning, prepared foods in the deli case, you name it, they pretty much have it. It is a little expensive, but well worth it for the convenience. great place to get picnic supplies for your wine country adventures too.

My boyfriend and I stopped in Glen Ellen Village Market to get some sandwiches before heading to Jack London State Park. That deli is incredible! The paninis looked delicious but we went with two Jack London-themed specialty sandwiches, because my boyfriend and I can't resist ordering food with cute names. They were super yum and filling, so you get your money's worth. Prices at the deli are comparable to Petaluma Market, but Glen Ellen Village Market has a better selection, especially in the cheese department.
Next time I drive out to Glen Ellen for a hike or a picnic, I will remember to stop here. -

Stopped here to pick up sandwiches on recommendation from our host at Gaige House. Awesome. Over three days we ended up going in twice for panninis and other travel must haves.
We had the chicken pesto, the bob and one other with house roasted pork. My favorite was the chicken pesto. They are big and you probably can share but the left overs aren't half bad served up cold either. We also noshed on the potato salad and the macaroni salad. Very good and seemed like all natural ingredients.
I don't think this place is over priced for what you get. We were very happy with this find and will definitely be back the next time we are in wine country!Listed in: Sonoma/Glen Ellen

I'm not a big chicken salad guy. I like chicken and I like salad but usually when you combine the two it involves gobs and gobs of mayo. And I hate mayo. Especially gobs and gobs of it.
So here I am trying to figure out what kind of sandwich to order at the Village Market when this beacon of light draws me to the chicken salad in the display case - the chicken was chunky (not shredded) and it was not mayoy (mayoy? is that even a word???) at all.
So I had to order it. And it was friggin' fantastic. The cost for this fantastic explosion of chickeny goodness? $4.99, including a soda and chips. I would make the trek up to Glen Ellen just to order this sandwich again. And next time I'm definitely trying some of the fantastic looking desserts that they had on hand. -

Livin in Glen Ellen was totally fuckin depressing - nothing but grapes, my ex and a buncha rich hicks. Good thing this lil market was around to drown the sorrow in a vast array of local wines & tasty food.
Their hormone-less, local fresh meats turned me back into a carnivore. The Caprese Sandwich was tasty and perfectly over-priced. I really miss the Cherry Cider, it was delightful & makes me want to trek back up to the country for some good ol produce and juicy goodness. It's ridiculous how much better the produce is in Sonoma County than any place else in CA that I have lived.
Pricey lil place, but, hello, small country/touristy road.. what do you expect? -

Even after a great wine tasting at Audelssa and the excellent appetizers from the Fig, Gayle and I were still a little hungry in the early afternoon. So we stopped here for a late lunch.
I had the Cajun Turkey Panini, while Gayle had a salad. The Deli in back had a pretty impressive selection and our food was excellent. Deli and front checker service was fast and friendly.
My only complaint is the deli order, pay and eat flow. After you buy your sandwich, you have to go up front and pay. And most of the soft drinks that I was interested in were also up front and with a hard left. And then if you want to eat outside, you need to go out the front door and walk all the way around to the very nice picnic tables in back. There is a door that goes from the indoor seating area in back outside, but it's marked emergency use only. That probably has more to do with shoplifting potential than fire code. -

This place is like a mini whole foods ... but without the crazy mom's driving their SUV's while drinking their Starbuck's latte. It's the perfect place to pick up supplies before heading off to the wineries. Alls I'm saying is that if you're going wine tasting, you shouldn't be buying Velveeta and Jolt.
We grabbed a variety of sandwiches from the hot food bar. We nom'ed in the car enroute to wine tasting. The chicken salad was great. I also got a few blood oranges here ... which were delicious and bloody. -

On a beautiful day I would always suggest to do something OUTSIDE! This is a great place to pick up food and have a picnic outside. There are seating areas near the market. The seating area is nice and quiet where you can enjoy your food and company in peace. This market reminds me of a smaller whole foods. This market offers alot of grocery varieties. Also they have alot of prepared food just like whole foods. From pizzas to pastas to meats to fried foods to sides to salads to desserts. TOOO much haha yeah. But yess this is a great place to pick up needs for a picnic outside.

If you know the Sonoma Market & the Petaluma Market, then you know the Glen Ellen Market. Same owners. Same layout. Same great gourmet selections. The deli section, the meats, the fish counter - All amazingly fresh & tasty.
I'm a local. I come in, get a variety of items from the salad bar and eat lunch at the picnic tables out around back. More enjoyable than 90% of the restaurants in the bay area. -

The is a great place to stop and get picnic food to take to Jack London State Park!
After early morning Easter services, I decided that I wanted to go somewhere fairly close where I could see something different, do a short hike, and perhaps have a picnic lunch. Jack London State Park was just perfect.
We stopped at Glen Ellen Village Market and grabbed 2 warm pannini sandwiches from their deli ($6.99 each). They were huge (and we probably should have shared)! We grabbed a couple of bottles of water and I almost fell over because they were extremely cheap for that area (only $.49 for a 20 oz. bottle)! Anyway, the service was quick and we only had to drive about a mile before getting to the entrance of the park.
The lady at the park entrance was very nice and told us where there were picnic tables that everyone didn't go to located next to the the cottage and in the cottage garden. We took a short walk and found a great picnic table overlooking the vineyards, cottage garden, and a huge live oak tree. As we bit into our pannini sandwiches, we both exclaimed at how good they were. These were probably some of the best pannini sandwiches that we have ever eaten (perhaps the scenery around us made them taste better??)
Anyway, you can't go wrong making a stop at the Village Market deli and having a picnic and hike around Jack London State Park. I also noticed that there was a family winery located between the market and the park. One could easily make a nice day of it by visiting all three. I don't know how good the winery is because it was closed for Easter; however, I did see a bunch of positive reviews for it on Yelp! -

A huge display of interesting and huge sandwiches (we had the brie and olive), and expansive salad and olive bar and a large selection of hot Mexican food to go, as well. We also picked up chocolate hobnobs (my neck-in-neck favorite with Sainbury's gingersnaps, in terms of British cookies) and the piece de resistance: three thieves boxed wine. Looked like a box of chicken stock. My reasoning was that a wine country market wouldn't sell crappy wine, right? Perfect for our hike and picnic in nearby Jack London Square.
But don't expect to pick up lunch for two for less than $30... -

Yes, I am one of the 'tourist' that is hiking up the prices for the locals but where else do you go for a bottle of water or whatever you may need in Glen Ellen?
This is a quaint Whole Food styled market that is jam packed with goodness, just about everything you can think of or need.
The hot foot section was tempting - breakfast was full of tasty items like breakfast burrito, breakfast muffin, scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with sausage, hash browns, sausage patties...danish, muffins...the works. The deli has amazing looking sandwiches - all good portion and reasonably priced. The soup is amazing and the salad bar was plentiful. There was always a section with good snacks like buffalo wings, chicken strips - that appears to be available all day. Returned in the evening and the hot food section is now full of tasty meals like chicken parmasean, grilled fish, mashed potatoes, veggies...
We got the cut seedless watermelon, sweet and refreshing. The clam chowder was tasty but just a bit salty for my taste.
If it wasn't for the resaturants around that we wanted to try, we would absolutely grab a sandwich and other meals from here. -

This store was absolutely perfect for stopping in & grabbing a great selection of breads, crackers, cheeses, etc. for a day in Sonoma. Seriously - the place reminds of a higher end Bristol Farms, if that's possible.
Although my tourist ass is the reason this place probably exists & charges the prices they do, I still dug it. -

If you are looking for a grocery store in Sonoma you this is the place. If you want lunch this place is awesome. The sandwiches were the bomb and toasting them is a MUST. The Tuscan is definitely a must and they have a nice hot, fried, soup, fruit and salad bar. The chilly turkey sandwich was over powered by the spice.
The salads they have mixed were delicious too. Wild Rice with mango +, Beat Salad + -

Never really tried anything but the sandwiches at their Deli! But those are just awesome! They're huge (hard to finish one even if you're really hungry after tasting a few wines) and they're freshly made and they come with a bag of chips and a Soda and they're only $7 a piece! Wow!
Get one for lunch and then head to Benizger's picnic area. -

Prepared food here is plentiful and delicious. Grabbed a sandwich and some fixin's during a day of "power tasting" in the area. Knowing that places like this exist make it hard for me to want to come home to the east coast.
Yeah, it's pricey, but you get what you pay for!! -

Like when Whole Foods, Petrini's and Adronico's were the charming local grocer, but where everybody knows your name. My favorite grocery store in the entire valley.

This place serves BBQ tri tip and chicken on Saturdays in the parking lot. The tri tip was the tops. The deli spread gives Whole Foods a run for its money. And the store's shelves are stocked with lots of goodies that you'll want to take home like olives and breads from local producers. Fill up your basket and then head to a winery for a picnic.

What a neat little market! We decided we needed to get lunch before visiting another winery, so we asked the gentleman who was serving my husband and son (yes, I'm the designated driver) at Arrowood. He rec'd picking up sandwiches at this market. The sandwiches were huge, and quite delicious. We did our thing and split 2, into 3's to share. They cost about $6.95 each, and to our surprise included a soda and chips! We got a couple of combination sandwiches with all sorts of good things: smoked turkey, tomato, avocado, and onion, cheese, lettuce and maybe something else that I don't remember. The other one started with buffalo chicken, and then had a bunch of other stuff. Just go check it out for yourself.

Stopped in to this place to buy fixings for dinner after eating lunch. The array of goods was quite impressive. Lots of great organic produce - after ogling the unripe figs on the enormous fig tree outside our vacation rental all weekend, the basket of ripe organic figs for $2.95 had to go into my cart. We produced a wonderful dinner out of the goods offered by this chi chi but totally friendly market. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that some of the stuff in the hot food bar looked like it had been sitting there a long time (example: the roast turkey had a dried crust-like top to it - this was around 4 pm).

One of the better Markets in the whole Bay Area along with their counter parts Sonoma Market and Petaluma Market. Their deli is outstanding, take your food outside to the picnick tables if you want to enjoy a sandwich as good as it will ever taste. Its like eatting sushi at the sushi bar. This market has anything you would ever need, but its really the deli thats going to bring you in and get you all hot and bothered.

Every town shoud have a market like this. Every time I go, it gets out of control, like when you go to Target just for toilet paper and end up spending 100 bucks.

This place is between a 4 and a 5. The sandwiches are just fabulous and while waiting for them to make it I was left to look at all the food in the deli case. My being a vegetarian of 18 years I was even tempted my the meatloaf. Some people make fun of this place but I'm sorry but if you need take out food and everything else is closed- This is the place to go to. Maybe us locals are just way too spoiled.
