2 reviews for Glen Capri Motel
Perfect for a screen writer from out of town who's on a budget, I can tell you that from personal experience. I can agree with what most of the previous reviewer says, although I'd have to add that I don't care. Motel 6's in the L.A. region can get a little scary. This place is nice and quiet. And, yes, shit doesn't work. Toilet will make noise. One night when I was there the smoke alarm kept chirping. Like every 10 seconds. Oh well. Still like the place. It's not a great vacation spot. But on the same token, it's not nearly as bad as the cut rate motels in the NorthEast LA region. It is quiet and safe. Kind of a best kept secret for people who are far from rich going to LA on any kind of business and just need a warm bed.
The Glen Capri is famous for being used in movies as the sleazy hotel where adulterous couples meet up, or john's get their rocks off with hookers. It certainly looks that way. While not a complete rat hole, it's not worth the price. It's a hot L.A. day and our room fan only cools one corner. Turning on the bathroom lights was a challenge - it's like I had to flip the switch in a secret pattern to have light. The appliances (microwave and mini fridge) are from the 80's. The front staff was a little difficult to deal with (both on the phone and in person), but that was due to a language barrier and some lack of customer service skills.
If you're looking for a place to crash for the night, and don't care about perks this is the place. But I would save myself a few bucks and just pick a Motel 8.
EDIT TO ADD: half way through our stay, the toilet stopped working. I'm removing a star. DON'T BOTHER!
