Cake donuts are my favorite. I love love love love love them. However, most of the time at regular donut shops, you can only find them in 2 flavors..chocolate and vanilla.
Glazed Donuts Catering is a dream come true for me! They make cake donuts in crazy amazing flavors. I got to try the peaches and cream and then the mexican chocolate. Perfect texture and flavor! Yummmy!
Oh and did I mention they are made with locally sustainable ingredients...
AWESOME.
No thanks.
I went to the Donut Fan Appreciation Party to finally try these donuts out, since I'd been on the mailing list for quite some time.
How you manage to make a small 2-inch donut CHEWY is beyond me. It was true of each flavor I tried. Texture was just thick and wrong. Flavors were inventive, but just didn't taste good!
I can appreciate the idea of making a vegan donut but you know, I'd rather have NO donut than a bad one.
Ok, first of all, vegan doughnuts=Awesome.
Second, the flavors are crazy and actually good. I mean, purslane and apricot? Genius.
Get a real store please! Or hire some people! Pretty please?
I have family members who are vegan and have always had health-conscious options during holiday events for those cousins, sisters, brothers and parents who had diet restrictions. I've sampled the gamut of natural foods donuts: Whole Foods, New Frontiers and Trader Joe's assortments to name a few. So whenever I try a gluten-free or vegan option, I don't compare it to the junk food kind. Not because Krispy Kreme is so superior to the health food stores, but because I just go for what tastes good in its own right.
These donuts were fantastic. We had them on Friday morning at my office and there were nothing like what Shep L. described. They did not have the fluffy Krispy Kreme consistency, nor were they true cake donuts like Dunkin Donuts offers, they were truly their own brand. I would compare the consistency to a sweet bread, chewy and substantial. The donuts apparently absorb less than 1 teaspoon of oil during the "frying" process, so they were by no means soggy. They were like perfect mini-loaves of sweet bread with all-natural, local-grown fruit fillings and spices, with a thin and well-balanced glaze that complemented the bread's flavor.
I am ecstatic that this local gourmet has chosen to offer such an attractive option for vegans, and to support local farmers while she's at it. She provided a full ingredients list (all organic, all natural, mostly local), which I was also impressed with. This is a natural foods sweet, which should not be compared to processed chain food. Don't get me wrong, Dunkin Donuts is my religion, but these sweets stand on their own.
I highly recommend these treats for those looking for a quasi guilt-free dessert/decadent breakfast, and especially for those with family members who have diet restrictions. These will definitely show up at my next family holiday.
I deducted a star because I can't find her website and I don't want to go to the farmer's market to find her. I am very lazy and spoiled, but I am willing to order these through her email address which should work just fine.
Every weekend for months and months now I have saved 3 dollars and a spot in my stomach for these amazing gourmet doughnuts.
The flavors change every week, are as unusual and delicious as it gets!

so far my top 3 are:
Irish CarBomb
Honey Lavender
White Chocolate Pumpkin
local, organic, sustainable and seasonal ingredients make the indulgence totally guilt free!!
I'm amazed these gourmet donuts haven't been reviewed yet, but it's probably because Glazed doesn't have a storefront. I've heard you can get them on the weekends from Bite Café, Swim Cafe and Green Grocer, but mine have always been handed off directly from owner/baker Kirsten.
Not your average donut by a long shot, but a treat like nothing you've tasted.
Unline Ira C., I am amazed that these donuts haven't been NEGATIVELY reviewed yet. Sure, the flavor combinations might be offbeat and interesting, but the donuts are heavy and soggy and overall not very good. In no way do they merit their $3 price tag. I wouldn't delight in this sopping mess for 50 cents.
