3 reviews for Glass Mountain Inn
I recently treated the mister to his birthday weekend at the Glass Mountain Inn in Napa Valley, and the place is hands-down fabulous and I'm already wanting a return visit. Paul and Julie clearly have their heart invested with the inn, which they took over several years ago.
Awesome breakfasts: Check.
Delicious french press tea and coffee bar: Check.
Lovely, comfortable room: Check.
Beautiful, natural grounds: Check.
Glass Mountain Inn is located just off the Silverado Trail near the northern end of St. Helena, so there is very little noise from passing traffic. Paul gave us great recommendations for some of the local wineries (most notably, Vincent Arroyo - HUGE fan now), offered his help with any local reservations we might need, and was just generally a wonderful host. He even brought out some gluten-free Brazilian cheese bread for me during our first breakfast!
Saturday morning we awoke to wild turkeys enjoying breakfast in the meadow at the rear of the inn.
Sunday morning we awoke to grazing fawns on the adjacent hillside.
a bit of regional trivia:
"Glass Mountain" received its name from the large deposits of obsidian within the region. When we arrived, I initially thought it had been trucked in and spread around the gravel driveway for aesthetic purposes. A more thorough walk around the grounds (and a local history lesson from Paul) revealed that it is naturally occurring. Beautiful!
a bit of worthless personal information:
After spending 2 days playing with the Sharper Image noise machine in the room...I am on the brink of taking the next step towards always having access to sounds of a babbling brook, a rain forest, or a soothing thunder storm (and many others!) at my fingertips.

The couple that own this fabulous little B&B are really cool. Finally a more modern approach to the Bed and Breakfast scene. This large Victorian house has been converted to about 6 rooms - the decor is not the flowery/granny stuff that you see at most places in wine country. Rather, it is minimal with a rustic charm to it. I stayed in the Mountain View room that boasts a killer queen size canopy bed and a HUGE tiled tub.
Breakfast is included every morning - the kitchen is modern and really nice and the food was SO delicious. My favorite thing here is the underground wine cellar that can be viewed from the dining room.
There are no kids allowed here, which ensures a restful nights sleep. Definitely consider Glass Mountain if you want to wine taste in the St. Helena/Napa areas - it is located in prime territory (on Silverado Trail - where the better wineries are), almost directly across from Duckhorn.
