Zee best ice cream in Ze verld! seriously. And I (and my friends) consider me an ice cream monster/afficianado.
Its always a stressing situation going in there because choosing flavors is frightening. I always want to branch out and try something new, but always default to the same combination (2 scoops in a waffle cone, to be exact) of the funky donkey, peanut butter blast, peanut butter chocolate, and /or caramel coffee crunch.
I must be the odd dude, my brain screws falling apart to give them an OK review. But so be it.
The ice cream and gelato are just OK. I gave them three tries, and tried a total of six flavors but none hit the spot. Sadly, I have had much better and having just moved to town, I will have to live in ice cream hell that is Boulder.
On the bright side, the people are very friendly and their chocolate dipped sugar cone is really, really good. yes, once, I bought just that.
When I first came to Colorado 5 yrs ago for my freshman year of college, I lived a block away. DANGER! Every flavor is freaking amazing. My personal favorite is a scoop of butter brickle with a scoop of pralines and cream, but every single flavor I have tried, without fail, has been incredible. Best ice cream ever. So fresh tasting, loaded with just the right amount of goodies (which for me means a lot), melts in your mouth at just the right speed, thicker and richer than your average ice cream, but not overwhelmingly so (as Coldstone can be, for me atleast). And so many options. You cannot just go once.
Didn't get to try the much-lauded funky donkey, as it wasn't available, but the key lime pie and peanut butter blast hit the spot. And you know it's a good ice cream joint when the server makes it a point to ask you which flavor you want on the top of a multiple-scoop cone. Places like these make me want to buy a franchise!
I received a nice message from the owner of Glacier. I just wanted to share. What nice people!!! Not only is the ice cream to die for...but the staff and owner make it an even better experience. Here's what he said...
"Norah, Thanks for taking the time to review Glacier. We actually make our key lime pie with fresh squeezed lime juice. Our goal is to make the ice cream available and I appreciate you noticing the difference. Mark Mallen, President, Glacier Homemade Ice Cream & Gelato"
Yeeeaaaa...I like it when people are nice to me.. : -)

I love you Glacier Homemade Ice Cream. I came to see you a few weeks ago. I feel almost embarassed… Read more »
Lemon gelato is hands down the most spectacular flavor of all the yum flavors.
The regular-old vanilla ice cream is so good it's our second favorite - no bland sugary yellow milk ice here.
Everything coffee and chocolate here has crisp, bright flavor.
The pistachio ice cream - yum! The raspberry gelato - double-yum!
It's really hard to go wrong. (Nutella gelato, not my favorite...)
Don't waste your money buying cones/cups - It's nearly the same price to get a pint, and if an outing is what you seek, just sit on down in the store and eat the pint right there. You won't be alone.
I really miss having a Glacier nearby. When I lived in Boulder I'd treat myself to it once a week. Very creative, well executed ice cream flavors. Like many other people, my favorite flavor is the funky donkey. If you go at least get a taste spoon of it!
Sooo after my 5th or 6th visit I got smart, cup? cone? naw give me a pint! For $10 you can secure yourself 3 prepacked pints. Ridiculous I know. These guys are pushing a seriously major product so get that tongue ready 'cuz it's gonna be out knocked out for days. Overloaded by raspberry and chocolate, or chocolate and hazelnut.
And like any good pusher they always seem to be open, always temping me late at night as I drive past. I expect to drive past only to see the dark exterior, but instead I see that bright shining glow that gets my taste buds excited, all it takes is those 4 neon letters - O P E N
Glacier is ridiculously good. They've got this raspberry chocolate melt that came from a passing comet or something - it's that yummy.
My kids, my parents, my friends - we all love it.
All of my out-of-town guests that come through request at least one session at Glacier.
This is a great locally-owned business, started in Boulder! I see they now have a Manhattan Beach, CA location in addition to other CO franchises! And now they are going to China!?
Not that I NEEDED an excuse to go, but when we had our cousins kids in town, I had to take them there even though it was January...they weren't the biggest ice cream fans (huh?) but they did find ALL the gnomes in the painting, even the ones someone had scratched off - DOH! I could hardly be bothered to find one!
I really digg their:
1. Key lime ice cream
2. Bing Cherry
3. Tiramisu Gelato
4. Cookies & cream
5. Green tea & chai tasty too
and many others too hard to name. The decision-making process after you step into the store is always PAINFUL b.c. of all the options!
I've also had a tasty shakes with blend-ins & also a banana split there, if u can believe it (who gets those anymore???)!
I likes buying fresh and pre-packed pints to get punches on me frequent buyer's card! I think open 'til 10 PM most nights!
Best...Ice cream......ever.
Seriously, if this ice cream was a man, I would have long ago stolen it away to be mine forever. It's rich and creamy and super flavorful. A few of us went to get some ice cream and every single one of us walked away completely satisfied. We went at kind of a weird hour so we were the only ones that were in there, but it ended up being awesome because they let us sample TONS of flavors. I ended up getting the 'Funky Donkey' and 'Raspberry chocolate chip' ice creams mixed together. 'Funky Donkey' is a creamy peanut butter ice cream with crushed up oreos in it. Heaven on my little tastebuds!!!! And you may think that mixing peanut butter ice cream with a berry ice cream is just crazy, but it seriously tasted just like a pb&j sandwich, minus the bread. It was so crazy delicious.
The ice cream is super rich, so it's okay if you don't get the biggest size. Actually, you'd probably get sick from it. I felt a little sick after eating my medium sized one, but that may be because I'm slightly lactose intolerant. But it's a heck of a lot of ice cream for $4!!!!
You won't be disappointed, promise =)
This review is dedicated to one of the workers at Glacier named Daisy.
This worker was so adorable! When we walked in to the store tonight to grab some dessert, Daisy greeted us with a smile and was super cheerful. I love it when I encounter people who are like that. While I went to their bathroom (which btw, was pretty clean), the fiance asked Daisy if he could try a few flavors and she was more than happy to help. She knew that we were a little hesitant about asking her to try out more flavors but she told us, "Don't worry about asking to try out flavors, you can try as many as you want!"
Her personality totally made us smile while we were in the store. She congratulated us for our engagement when she saw my ring and was very professional at doing her job.
The ice cream and gelato were wonderful, by the way. This place is just great.
Daisy, keep up the good work!
Man this place is awesome. Glacier's has a cool hippy-ish vibe inside kind of like Ben & Jerry's, except B&J's is like a G-rated hippy influence and this is more PG-13, if that makes any sense. It probably doesn't. But who cares? Anyhow, about the ice cream...
I tried the banana caramel crunch which was really good, but in the end I couldn't say no to the "death by chocolate" flavor. It was really dark, kind of like the Guinness of ice creams, and had all these tasty chocolate chunks in it. There was a chocolate raspberry truffle flavor that looked really interesting as well.
They also have gelato and smoothies. The ceiling is covered in tapestries, the walls are done up with lots of paintings of Bob Marley, and then there's a giant "find the 7 enchanted gnomes" painting. I could only find 1. I have no idea where the other 6 are hiding. Those gnomes are tricky little bastards. Maybe to find the other gnomes I needed some of what the other people in this place were having, if you know what I mean...
Glacier is hands-down the best ice cream shop in Boulder. They have amazing handmade ice cream, as well as handmade gelati and sorbets in all sorts of interesting flavors (the chocolate sorbet is incredibly weird, and incredibly good). Tons of variety, premium ingredients, and huge serving sizes...what more could you want? Highly recommended!
Best bets: Chocolate Hazelnut ice cream, mint cookie ice cream, Ghirardelli milk chocolate ice cream, any of the gelati & sorbet flavors.
Mark M. wrote me a message today to let me know the rational behind two of my "cons":
1) Plainer flavors sell better. Which, in hindsight, is obvious.
2) Junior Mints like to melt during the creation process, so leaving them whole is sort of required if you want to make the ice cream recognizable.
So, yeah. I still love Glacier, and in the wintertime they add my favorite flavor - PEPPERMINT STICK. YUM.

YES.
Really, that could be the whole of my review - YES. Or maybe DELICIOUS.
Glacier makes, bar none,… Read more »
After 4 years in Boulder I moved away about 9 months ago and I still crave Glacier and Half-Fast. My favorite combination. MMMMMMM..... this icecream is TO DIE FOR.
Most of the people who work there are awesome: one time i got free ice cream for doing an interpretive dance of what chocolate banana looks like, and the coupons in the school books are great.
Some of my favs:
Raspberry Chocolate Truffle. (omg i love this)
Chai (amazing yet light)
Green Tea (even lighter, fresh)
Ginger (now im really starting to sound like a boulder-ite)
Peanut Butter Chocolate (so creamy)
Chocolate banana crunch something
Raspberry chocolate chunk
okay, i've never tasted a bad flavor......
Funky donkey.. must have funky donkey. Such a huge selection of ice creams, yogurts, and gelettos. The staff are happy to help you with a selection or tasting of three.
While I was in uniform they gave me my dessert for free and a coupon for a free coffee during my next visit. Y'all rock.
Last night, after a few drinks and other libations, about halfway through Super Troopers, my friend busted out a fresh pint of Glacier's "Birthday Cake" Ice Cream.
This sh!t is no joke. As I said upon filling my third bowl, it is like having a birthday party in your mouth. Clowns, Unicorns, Bouncy Castle, and all. I think some people might not be able to handle Birthday Cake Ice Cream...it is that good.
Beware....
You know I hate to be a conformist, but I suppose this place really does what it does well enough to get it 5 stars: I have no complaints.
I don't really feel like ice cream often, since usually when I eat it I feel like I need to run 15 miles or so to get that sort of sugar-high feeling to go away, but that aside, the ice cream they do have here is homemade, tastes great, and for a price that won't burst your piggy bank.
I've known a few people who have worked here and they all were quite nice, even letting me sample for free several times. Hey, the store makes so much money as it is, they are free to hand out a little love every now and then.
This place is so good you might want to regulate yourself though, unless you want that early stroke/heart attack
I really love ice cream. More than almost anything you could name. I spent my high school years eating it for breakfast every morning before school. I am a serious critic. Glacier rocks hard. Solid product. Great variety. And, even better, they have an amazing assortment of non dairy ice cream substitutes for my loser :-) husband, who is the most lactose-intolerant person on the planet. Since he conferred this terrible scourge on all of our children, it is seriously wonderful that we can still go out for "ice cream" and that they can all have sorbet instead. Probably the best and broadest assortment of sorbet in any ice cream parlor I've been in. And the coconut sorbet is a masterpiece. SOOOO good. Wow. Check it out.
Holy cow batman!! This was some damn good ice cream! I actually had the gelato. Did you know that if you get the gelato, you can pick two flavors? HEAVEN I tell you! I had tiramisu and chocolate mousse flavors, I couldn't tell you which one I liked better because they were both so amazing. My son had the birthday cake flavor and he made sure no sprinkles were left behind. I think this is going to have to be a regular stop for me when I happen to be in Boulder... or am driving by on my way to Longmont or Ft Collins....or I am in Broomfield and have plenty of gas and time... or I just get a craving and don't mind a little drive.
I agree with Audra -- It is absolutely impossible to find better ice cream anywhere. Period. Even for a time period when I couldn't eat ice cream, the frozen yogurt was a perfect substitute. I've moved away from Boulder and long for things like their birthday cake ice cream. First timer? Buy a pint card -- you'll need it. Now, if they'll only just ship to Seattle for me...
Great local ice cream parlor.
Good flavors.
I like that they are open until 10pm even in winter.
Nice wait staff.
Some of the flavors are outstanding, others could really use some work.
So, I've established a boring routine of "eating clean" during the week and allowing myself to eat whatever I want on Saturdays. I call it my "cheat day", and, on those days, it's game on. During the week, I find myself dreaming of all the delicioso eatin I'm gonna do. I'm steady and secure all week, playing a little mantra in my head "wait for Saturday, wait for saturday, blah, blah, blah." No one can break me. Except for Glacier. Damn you Glacier, damn you to hell!!! MUST you be a few blocks away from work (a gym, no less!)? Must you beckon me like that saucy goddess who kept Odysseus captive for a gazillion years (what was her name?)? Apparently, yes. This is me eating Glacier ice cream ( key lime pie is my absolute fave, but really, I've tried pretty much every flavor and you just can't go wrong here): take a bite, close my eyes, move my head side to side, Stevie Wonder style, and literally make a "mmmmmmmmmm" noise out loud. I can't resist. I'm a slave to Glacier. And oh yeah- need a b'day cake? Betty Crocker ain't got nothin on Glacier when it comes to their srumpdilicious ice cream cakes. Word.
I finally tried it and the previous reviews were not exaggerating. This place is amazing. Every flavor of ice cream or gelato we tried was a home run. The aroma of the place is intoxicating in and of itself. I'm going back many times in the future.
Best ice cream in Boulder, and among the best gelatos I've tasted, period. I didn't really want to like it, as I'm still ticked off my favorite gelato place in Old Town Arvada closed- but, sulking be damned, I loved it. I can't get enough of gelato ever since being turned onto it by the little old lady who owned that gelato shoppe in Old Town, which is now a quilting shop. Stupid quilts.
The sorbets looked fantastic, too- I got a tiny scoop of sorbet for my pooch, and he gives it five stars. At least, he will when he gets done shredding the empty cup into confetti. He seems to be frustrated with its emptiness. He didn't let me have a taste, but that's only fair since I wasn't sharing my chocolate gelato with him. Even if dogs could have chocolate, it was just too darn good.
Oh My!! A group of friends went here one night while visiting Boulder. We found them on yelp and it DOES live up to the reviews. If you are in the area and craving GREAT ice cream, then don't miss this place. Note, it's so good there may be a short line but it moves fast. I had the chunky peanut butter - has pieces of peanut butter cups, another had the Jr. Mint ice cream with hot fudge, another had the coffee ice cream with hot fudge and a rocky road. All were AMAZING!!
Hands down the best ice cream in Colorado. The coffee caramel crunch is amazing. The service is always friendly and speedy too.
Best ice cream/gelato I have found in Colorado!
Yo, This has got to be the best home made ice cream place in the world right now. The best part if get the chocolate covered waffle cone, or maybe it's the sugar cone, with chocolate melted and hardened all the way down to the end of the cone and get this with nuts. The ice cream of choice for me would be the caramel oreo ice cream. Anything with oreo in a ice cream flavor is good, like mud pie, but not the cold stone kind where they mix it , it just comes out funny. It's also good to eat it during the cold winter end of fall and do some ashtanga yoga with Richard Freeman while you're there
Oooh, another good one! (to eat if you happen to be house-sitting and are raiding the fridge). Yumm.....peanut butter banana! Peanut butter banana? Okay, the best cure for....desiring a little sumthin sweet while you are house-sitting, for sure. These creams will definitely stimulate your taste buds, and further, make them curious as to what they are tasting...for sure. I think if you have a nice girlfriend in a cute outfit on a nice you will probably end up here....always.
It is not possible to get better ice cream anywhere. Period. Or for that matter, to find more interesting flavors. If you can't decide which to try, ask for tastes until you find our that you want, or like my friends, just go there every single night. :)
Yes, this place rocks. The high-school babes who work here are really nice and the ice-cream is great. They have many tasty and original flavors - Chai, Birthday Cake, etc.
