I don't usually turn down a chance to come here with a group.  I never eat here alone and I eat out alone a lot.  I am just not that excited about the menu or the food.

Still and all, I have some really good memories (and not from my childhood!) of sitting at one of the outside windows and watching it snow and dining with people I really like.  The restaurant has a good atmosphere, esp when it's busy.  It also has an above average salad bar and I will order that.  I'll admit I enjoy revisiting it's turn of the century red glamour and mix of historical and kitschy decor.  Train buffs might enjoy its ambiance; I enjoy the visual distractions.

This is a good place to go for a "nice"  dinner for a group of folks who are not too adventurous, who enjoy a bit of Colorado Springs history, who can compromise to give the group a good time, or someone who wants a rich sweet large dessert as the reward for ordering just the salad bar.

There are three kinds of pizza in the US, pizza found in NYC, Chicago, and everywhere else.

The pizza here at Giuseppes' is for sure some of the best in that third category. We got a large thin crust with pepperoni, sausage, green peppers and onions. The toppings were so plentiful that you could really only eat two slices. Wonderful value and fantastic flavor.

The salad bar looked really good, but Giuseppes' really doesn't have an affordable way for you to get an entree and a salad bar adding a salad bar would have been an additional $10.50 per person. So we settled for a house salad which was very good anyway.

All ending it was a very tasty dinner, at a very affordable price. Our family of four had 1 large and 1 small pizza, 3 salads and 4 drinks for around $45.

The Depot has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember.

After living across the country for 20 years I moved back to CS.  A lot of the places I remembered being great were not.  Giuseppes was not one of those.

The food is very good.  Their pasta dishes are very well done.  Portion sizes are a little large.  Salad bar is outstanding.  My son always gets a Calzone.  It is good for two meals and he claims it is just as good as a leftover as it is fresh in the restaurant.

My new favorite is the combination ravioli.  But be prepared, they only bring you three raviolis.  One of each kind.  Of course they fill the plate with those three.

Pizza is also a good choice.  Loaded with toppings!

The Train station decor makes it a good choice for out-of-town guests and the out of the way setting with a nice park across the street for burning off those huge meals makes it my favorite place for a relaxed Sunday dinner.

SO I went to Giuseppe's on the advice from the chef I work under. He told me that it was home to the best Reuben in all of Colorado Springs.  He also included that said sandwich is the only thing worth ordering on the menu.  Nothing else delightful.

I'll admit, I've had my fair share of Rubens at places like Camellia Grill in New Orleans.  They make them big, greasy, cheesy, smelly, and delicious.  I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur in this department.

Then again, I don't know a lot about the history and science of said sandwich.  I will admit that it is entirely possible that my standard of judgement is an abomination....

I digress....

You may have guessed from the above comments, I was not blown out of the water by said sandwich... Not impressed at all... The bread was okay; the rye was nice and dark.  The sour kraut was sour kraut, and there was horseradish and thousand island dressing to add.  However, the corned beef was dry and the Swiss cheese was sad.

I have no idea how they melted the cheese on this sandwich, let alone how they got it to take on an almost translucent quality. It was hard and not delicious.  And it was not in generous supply, either, which in this case made for a better sandwich since the cheese was upsetting-- but all in all does not bode well for a Reuben.

The ironic thing, is that my dinning mates had reasonably decent sandwiches.  Both the Italian sausage sandwich and the meatball sandwich were acceptable.

Other than that, we ordered a roasted vegetable plate.  Don't do it- unless you like icky tasting eggplant and having everything somehow taste of broccoli.

I would probably knock off an additional star, but the service was amazing.  And the company was entertaining-  I love to watch the ladies who lunch.

All in all, this place is all about history.  It's not about delightful cuisine.

As the tourism poster for New Zealand reads on Flight of the Conchords:
"If you don't expect too much, you won't be disappointed."

My wife and I have a 1 1/2 year old boy and the only reason I didn't give this restaurant a lower rating is he thoroughly enjoyed watching the trains rumble by.

The staff was polite and the old train station atmosphere was neat, but the food left much to be desired. My Caesars salad was way overdressed, the appetizers were fried and flavorless, the bread was cold and soaked in butter. My entree (pan-fried trout) was ok, but I am still suffering from its effects the morning after. Not worth the price.

This is another one of those places, where the atmosphere bumps it up! This restaurant is an actual old train depot. When you are eating, you can see trains passing by on 8 different tracks, the kids love it! I have been going here since I was little and it is still a favorite place of mine. My favorite food is a combination of the Salad Bar and a Reuban Sandwich.

Dinner at Giuseppe's Depot Restaurant did not involve breadsticks. In fact, the entire dinner followed the theme of Giuseppe's initial presentation of garlic bread. Sometimes people make that yellow garlic bread that comes from a cardboard box stored in the freezer. Restaurants charging money for food should probably avoid the yellow garlic bread that resembles something stored in the freezer. Dinner did not include the presentation of bread sticks. The deep fried ravioli appetizer turned out to be the highlight of the dining experience. Dinner provided the option of purchasing a side salad. The ravioli dinner was interesting, but the raviolis were particularly thin and covered in a chunky tomato sauce. Joni had the house special that included Italian sausage and bow ties. Joni was very pleased with the house special. Overall, the meal was palatable, the restaurant setting was interesting, and a second visit of patronage will be questionable.

I'd say the food here is just okay. The decor is charming and there are great picture windows that look out onto Pike's Peak, plus a cute little park out front. I came with a party of 10, and not one of us cleared a plate - the portions were really large. My cousin raved about the salad bar (she's been to G's several times) but wanting something a little more substantial I got a half turkey club - it was really good, but even at a half sandwich I couldn't finish it. It's also a really large place. I felt like I kept finding rooms everywhere.

Strictly a place to bring tourists with kids as its charm is its railroad location(trains will probably go right by the window) and decor. Food is middle of the road family Italian.

Giuseppe's is a fun place for the historic ambience.  It has the cutest, charming, decor and some of the best views of Pikes Peak.  Other than that, there's nothing to rave about.  The food is mediocre; and the last couple of times I have eaten there I have gotten cold food, yuck. It's a good historic building to visit, but not worth going for the food.

So, this place was recommended to my family by the funeral director at the Shrine of Remembrance funeral home as a good place for groups and great food. We were all down in Colorado Springs for a memorial for my cousin who passed away suddenly this past week. Family had come in from all over Colorado, as well as Utah and Iowa. We got to the restaurant, which turned out to be the old train depot in Colorado Springs that was converted into a restaurant. The building was pretty cool and they had plenty of memorabilia about the place from pictures to articles, you name it. The staff was very friendly and as we had a reservation for the family, they brought us all back to a large room, which we nearly filled. I would say there were about 40 of us. They had put a nice sign on the entrance to the room reading something like "Private Party, Celebrating the life of ..." That was a nice touch. As we all sat down the wait staff quickly took our drink orders and promptly brought out our drinks. A short time later the waitress came and took all our orders. They were great about splitting the bill up for the smaller family groups as they took our orders. We all were deep in conversation as we waited for our food, and the staff was quick to keep our drinks filled as we waited. I would say that the wait was a bit long, but then, we were a party of over 40, so it probably was reasonable considering the large number of orders all at once. Some family members started receiving their main entrees before the salads even came out. One of my aunts commented to the waitress that we hadn't even received our salads and then they started bringing our salads out. We had to gulp down our salads because shortly after receiving them they started delivering the rest of the entrees. The garden salads were as expected, but the Caesar salads were getting rave comments from those that ordered them. As people started eating their entrees you could hear comments here and there about the quality of the food. The eggplant parmesan was served with cold marinara sauce; the linguine alfredo was extremely bland, the shrimp fettuccine was so salty it was inedible, the Ahi tuna looked and tasted like one of those individually frozen steaks you get at Sams Club and even the garlic bread was cold and you could clearly taste the garlic salt used instead of real garlic. But our drinks were never empty! Woot! My bill, for three people, with 18% gratuity added on, came to ~$70. I am not extremely picky about the food I eat, I love food and will eat just about anything. I do however, expect that when I pay for a meal in a place like this that there will be some semblance of quality to it, it isn't McDonalds after all. I would rate the food at this establishment as barely a step up from the Spaghetti Factory in Denver (Their spaghetti is out of a Chef Boyardee can!). If I hadn't been at a memorial for my cousin I would have sent all our food back and refused to pay and I NEVER do that. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly and attentive, especially with regards to our drinks. So they get props for the great signage on the door to our room, their promptness and their courteousness. If it wasn't for that, I would have given them one star just for being in a cool location.
