New York, NY
Given all the variations in other yelpers' reviews for this place, I wanted to have a couple of visits to Ginza under the belt (literally!) to review it objectively. Well, today was my 3rd time eating there -- 2 dinners and 1 lunch. So, in a nutshell:
Food: fresh fish, generous sizes (pieces), tasty rolls. Nothing extra-creative, but solid.
Service: just ok. The food came quickly, the waitresses (on all visits) didn't exude excessive friendliness, but that's kind of normal for Asian restaurants. Today our order was mixed a bit -- they forgot to put mango into the mango-tuna-avocado handrolls, but it was fixed quickly.
Price: makes it all work. $1 nigiri pieces (except a couple of more expensive items like uni), $2.50 rolls (which you can order as handrolls -- and they're quite good!), and order-2-get-1-free specialty rolls -- much better deal than at quite a few other sushi places. So, the verdict: unless I'm going to a super-duper-way-out-of-the-ordinary place, why spend an arm and a leg when Ginza fits the bill perfectly? There are plenty of very similar places that would cost a lot more... Yay! I'm a fan.
P.S. Haven't tasted their hibachi dinners yet -- but observed a couple of shows from a distance, and the chefs were quite impressive with all the tricks. -

Wow- this sushi was not good at all. A friend suggested after seeing the 50% off- that should be the red alert. The atmosphere was lame (just like many of the sushi rest. in Brooklyn)- bad decor, low music and just blah.
The taste was simply bland-- and just not good or fresh. This place should close down so decent places like Mura can actually get the business.
A shame- sorry I wasted the calories! -

A fun treat for dinner.
I always order the filet and lobster hibachi and I am never disappointed! Wash that down with a glass of plum wine and call it a night. -

Beware! We had to walk out the service was so bad. The chef on the next table to us looked like he was putting on a good show, but after the waitress was so rude and had such an attitude we swiftly left. Lucky escape

The 50% off Sushi was definitely the draw for this place. Walked in and saw that this place wasn't as busy as it should be for the discount they were offering up.
I asked for hot tea not relaizing that they charge $1. Scanned the menu. Specialty rolls were buy 2, get 1 free. Don't be fooled though, at an average of $12 a roll, the 3 rolls still come out to $8 each. Plus an additional charge of $1 per roll for brown rice--not cool. Although it was nice to have sashimi pieces for $1 each (check the menu).
Service was alright. We ordered asking for brown rice on the rolls and were given white rice. I was acknowledged for a tea refill but had to ask a second time. Having left paying $25 for dinner, I definitely could have had better. -

I can barely sit up after receiving the WORST bout of food poisoning i've ever had after eating here. I shall never be lured in by inexpensive sushi again. It's my own fault I guess. but after 24 hours of puking my guts out among other lovely things I may never eat sushi again. Okay, I gotta go puke again. Stay away from the sushi!

This review is for weekday lunch, when the Hibachis are off. During the day, it's pretty much sushi and bento boxes. They offer some lunch specials... a bento box with protein choices - or 3 sushi rolls for around $10.
I opted for 3 rolls, which you choose from a list of 20+. I was a little annoyed that a number of them had no description, so you have to ask (unless you have the wisdom) to know what's in an Alaska roll, Boston Roll, etc. The other slight annoyance was that most of these rolls were gimmicky.... cream cheese/wasabi mayo filled, etc. Just give me some simple fish. One roll I liked, one was ok and the other I forget. Each roll was cut into 6 pieces, so you get 18 mouthfulls, which is a pretty good deal/meal (also with soup or salad). I actually felt a bit stuffed.
The other negative was they were very slow... I was the only one there and 2 chefs took 20 minutes to fill my order. Granted they seemed to have some delivery orders, but still... it's a pretty big space so I kinda spent much of my time twiddling my fingers. I was working that day and needed things to be a bit more swift.
With 4-5 other sushi places nearby, I'm going to have to check them all before I can really say this is the best deal for a weekday sushi lunch. -
Review from Albert W.
How does a place I orginally reviewed place 4 stars and then drop to 1? Simple: turn me off two times. Last time I went, there was a smooched piece of broccoli on my menu (another reason why I don't like hibachi - they throw food). In my latest escapade, the waitress messed up our order. She stood dumbfounded when my friend told her that all our rolls were to be brown rice. Waitress stumbled and said, "I forgot". Sent it back - we want what we ordered...
The bill came and they charged us separately for 3 brown rice, $1 each. Something that's not even denoted on the menu.
Time to go back to the other Japanese Restaurants in the area. Ginza, you blew it.Listed in: Park Slope

I made a reservation. Specified habachi. Showed up with my date 5 minutes early. The girl behind the counter says 'I know you have a reservation, but there's going to be a wait.' 'How long?' '10 minutes.' I looked over at the table and they're just taking orders for both tables. She gave away our seats! And we were EARLY.
We sat down, she got us one beer and ignored us the entire wait (which, of course, was well over 10 minutes). We were going to order sushi while we waited but couldn't get her to pay attention.
But here's the saving grace- Because she gave away our reservation, we got placed at the next table which had no other customers. We got a our own private dinner and show! Date night salvaged. -

So I went there tonight. The atmosphere is nice. The hostess was ok/nice. The wrong thing she dis was give the check without asking if we wanted dessert, which we did.
The chef wasok. He did a little performance before cooking. Nice show. He threw food in my friends mouth. I declined . As the chef put sauces / ingredients from a lil boy figurine that resembles the boy urinating, the chef turns the thing towards me and intentionally wets me. It wasn't water n my dress was white. I think he meant to get it in my plate though. Thefood was ok. Bothering brag about. I think it needed just a Tad bit more seasoning. Out of 5 stars I give 3 . -

This place gets 4 stars for "Yay! I'm a fan" of half price sushi. Period.
I admit I was a bit skeptical at first, questioning the quality of the fish and wondering, what's the catch (sorry for the pun)? It turned out to be pretty good. Nothing to complain about, nothing to write home about. If you are looking for authentic Japanese, go elsewhere (where they don't serve hibachi). But--at the risk of sounding like a gluttonous, cheap bastard--if you are craving hit-the-spot, takeout-style sushi, why fool yourself and spend $20+ a person somewhere else when you can pile your plate with your favorite rolls and not even hit the credit card minimum. -

My first hibachi restaurant. Cool experience...the chef was entertaining. Awesome aim with throwing broccoli into our mouths lol. (I missed mine though) I had the chicken hibachi. It was pretty good. Also like others mentioned, the sushi is 50% off. I was skeptical about that because when anything says 50% off I worry about the quality or I think something is wrong with it, BUT to my surprised I really liked my sushi...and I'm not even a big sushi fan. It was also inexpensive, definitely a good spot to go to if you're on a budget.
I didnt like that it was so dim in there though, but I guess thats supposed to add to whole hibachi ambiance and having fire in front of your face. -

Sooo I was hungry and couldn't leave the apartment, so I decided to order delivery from Ginza owned "Pad Thai".
First I called to place the order and they basically rushed me through the phone call.
Second I specifically told them my apartment was on ground level and they went to my neighbors apt on the 2nd floor
Third, they gave us the wrong order
Fourth, we called to have them fix it and they not only gave us attitude and were rude (about the order they screwed up) but they claimed that the lunch special we ordered didn't exist on the weekend (even though the menu specifically states available every day.)
Time to find a new thai place
UPDATE
They finally came with the "correct dish" It turns out that they just dont know what Pad kee mao noodles are. They brought the non-spicy pad thai again and called it pad kee mao. Soooo done with these clowns -

We live three blocks away and have kids, so have been here at least 20 times. I'm sorry to say the place is in a nosedive. Sushi is inedible. I had the roll with mango inside and it was not ripe (bitter and crunchy). The last three or four times (since their half-off "special" started) it's been this way. Service is consistently rude and incompetent too.
I'm bummed because this place was great when they opened a couple of years ago but now they're on the "never again" list. -
Review from Megan C.
Here's what I'm gathering from the majority of the reviews: sushi - not so great. Hibachi - so. Much. Freaking. Fun. As you might have guessed from my four stars, I had the pleasure of ordering hibachi.
We seriously had a blast. I can't say enough good things and I wish I remembered our chef's name. We were a party of five with two wee ones and they thought the whole spectacle was riveting and hilarious. Of course the big kids' favorite part was when he shot sake in our mouths... On THAT note, we couldn't believe how affordable the beer and sake was. Food was delicious (the fried rice was seriously addictive) and the chef was entertaining and obscenely talented. Can't complain.
Never ever assume you're too old to giggle uncontrollably when your hibachi chef makes an onion volcano or a Spongebob Ricepants or says, "Mmm...chicken. Meow meow." -

Love this place. I've both dined-in here and had delivery, with good service either way. The best part is the interesting rolls they throw together-- shrimp, mango avocado, being one of my favs.
I've only seen the hibachi from afar but it looks amazing!
I order so much, they have my info on file which makes delivery super-easy!
The prices are very reasonable, the food is great, it's an easy win. :) -

It feels like I'm in a Bad Romance with this place. I keep coming back for more of that terribly addictive fried rice. I should rate it higher since I've been ordering their takeout for years; however, I can't let go of how insanely bad their "customer service" is.
Be prepared to get yelled at or cut off (via phone) by at least one lady in particular. I'm not sure why they're consistently in a foul mood.
I wouldn't recommend eating anything raw as this place is far from authentic Japanese. Don't be fooled by "Jian Z.'s" semi-professional photo of their sushi. Speaking of which-how SUSPECT is her 5 star rating and proclamation it's the best sushi ever while her only other misspelled review of Jpan is 1 star: "disgusting, tuna is not frest". Really? Only 2 yelps from a middle school girl? Suspect...
The hibachi is decent. The delivery guys are all right.

I saw that our building orders a lot of take-out from this place. And it so happened that I ran into one of their delivery guys in our elevator, so I asked him for a menu. They had $2.50 sushi rolls on their menu and I was thinking it was one of those marketing gimics where you think it's only $2.50 per roll and you call in and they say that deal is only available during happy hour or during lunch time....but to my surprise that wasn't the case. Given the great deal, my husband and I ordered a bunch of sushi rolls and within 25 minutes, they were at our door. It was quick, easy, cheap and fresh. We will definitely order from them again.

Just ate here, really dreadful service and mediocre food.
As my mother and I entered, my mom requested to sit at a different table from the one the waiter had placed our menu's on (which shouldn't have been an issue, given that we were two of roughly four people eating there). The waiter replied with a scornful "I mean...I guess you can sit there, it really doesn't matter to me." I suppose being treated like a bitter ex-lover from the man in charge of our food should have been a red flag, but we stayed just long enough to receive four rolls of bland, unappealing sushi. We ate quickly, left a far too generous tip (being that we left any tip at all), and left.
If you want some quick, dirt cheap sushi, I can't advise you not to hit up Ginza for take-out. The service given while dining in, however, is rude and inattentive, and the food doesn't come close to being good enough to make up for it. -

Nah, dude. Nah.
I work on 5th Avenue -- a few blocks south of this place. I think it's a pretty sweet location to work, and since I've been working on 5th, I've tried to make it a point to eat at as many restaurants as possible in the vicinity. I had an hour to kill before I was to report to work one day a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted sushi. I should have chosen a different sushi place.
Their lunch offerings are terrible. Perhaps their hibachi is bangin', and I should give them another try, but I don't see why I should when there are 2 other sushi places right near Ginza that I can think of offhand. Chances are I'm not going to go out for hibachi when I'm looking for a place to eat.
I got the teriyaki shrimp bento box lunch special. Their salad, as a former reviewer of this place mentioned, was literally half a handful of wilted iceberg lettuce. The shrimp was rubbery and overdone and their teriyaki sauce was far too sweet and syrupy. Not to mention that they charged me a dollar for the green tea I ordered, and it tasted like a cup of boiled water. I was really disappointed.
They appear to have some interesting menu choices as far as sushi rolls go, and if I had to go again, I would definitely make sure to go for dinner. -
Review from Irene F.
Not bad, not great. Went here for lunch yesterday with a buddy, we were starving, which means the food should have tasted way better!
Hot tea is hard to wreck, and the miso was yummy also, but again hard to wreck. Plump edamame, yum. The beef negimaki was all scallion, definitely a little too much, and not enough sauce (or maybe just not pungent enough).
Kudos for the awesome lunch special, 3 rolls for $9.50, but they were very hit or miss. Spicy tune crunchy and lobster salad rolls (also with crunchies) were excellent, but the yellowtail scallion and salmon avocado were big misses (yellowtail had no scallion, and the salmon one was way too much avocado and just a lot of mushy).
I would come back to try the hibachi if I'm at Leo's again, but definitely would not go out of my way to get food here again. However, they do deliver, have pretty excellent service, and have some good specials, so if you're in the area, maybe worth checking it out. -

A random yearning for Hibachi led me to check this place out this weekend, and I'm so glad I did!
The place was bustling when we arrived Saturday night, and were seated at a hibachi table with a group of 5. The mood of the restaurant was cozy and festive - even the waitresses were giggling at the hibachi chefs' antics. Service was very attentive and friendly, and our orders were quickly taken.
You get a LOT of food for about $21 (plus entertainment!), we were stuffed by the time our free pineapples arrived at the end of the meal. Our chef was really funny and performed several tricks - both impressive and silly, but it didn't hinder his ability to churn out some delicious food. I loooved the fried rice, which was prepared in front of us, and craved it the rest of the weekend :) We tried the chicken, scallops, and steak - all were pretty good, but I thought the scallops were particularly tasty.
I'm glad to have found a hibachi place so close to home, and will definitely be back with a group of sake-loving friends -

Hibachi in Park Slope is a nice addition, as the neighborhood certainly doesn't need another Japanese sushi restaurant.
I have been once for lunch, and once for dinner. The food is fair, tastes good, but without that "wow" factor.
We sat at the Hibachi table, and ordered Mixed Tempura, Beef Negimaki, and Gyoza. All were reasonable renditions. Then, for the hibachi, we got steak, lobster, and scallop. Unfortunately, the scallop was gritty, and texturally, the feeling of dirt between my teeth is not a pleasant one.
I liked the fried rice with egg, although it was slightly overcooked. The service was prompt and friendly, and the prices were decent.
Not sure if i'd go back anytime soon, but I'd probably be willing to try again. -

WOW. Where to start?
I was excited to try Ginza. A friend really liked it. Now I'm pretty convinced she must have this place mixed up with ANYTHING else. Most awful ordering experience I've had in probably close to a year.
One of my items came coated in a substance I can't eat (not won't, physically can't). The seasoning wasn't listed in the menu and I'd never seen it seasoned that way (in my experience it's been seasoned with other things) so I was kind of pissed. Instead of discussing it with me when I called or looking for any kind of solution, the individual on the other end of the phone yelled at me for not knowing (psychically I presume) that this particular restaurant always makes this dish this way. This individual went on until I promised never to order from them again and hung up.
I've learned three things tonight:
One, no matter how odd or ridiculous it might be for someone to put the thing I am sensitive to in certain kinds of food, I will ask for the rest of my life. Lesson learned. In the most bizarre manner ever.
Two, if you have an issue with something at Ginza, any notion of "customer service" goes out the window.
Three, despite the fact that I just spent a fair chunk of money on what amounts to some appetizers and a soup, I am going to go to bed very hungry.
This will teach me to deviate from my normal sushi places. -
Review from Tanya T.
Most people seem to have rated Ginza based on their hibachi experience. I've ordered the sashimi bento box for delivery twice now, and for what it's worth, both times have been fresh and delicious.
They seem to have a large delivery zone (they deliver to Prospect/Crown Heights!) , and it was prompt both times (neither delivery took more than 30 minutes).
There's a $10 minimum for delivery, so I had to go with the dinner bento for $12.95 (lunch is $8.95). The sashimi portions were smaller the second time I ordered. Perhaps it had to do with the time of day. The first order was placed after they had just opened, and I got eight generous cuts of sashimi [2 each of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and mackerel(?)] along with a California roll, shumai, miso soup, rice and a salad (aka iceburg lettuce, a slice of cucumber, a slice of radish and thousand island dressing). All in all, it's a very tasty, filling, and thrifty meal.
The second time around (placed after 4 pm), I got the same selection of sashimi, but the cuts were much smaller. I suppose I would much prefer smaller cuts to larger pieces that didn't taste as fresh... there are worse things to complain about,
If you have a good sense of portion control, you could fill yourself up with the sashimi, salad, shumai, and soup and save the California roll and rice for your next meal. -

There were 4 hairs in my sushi. This raised a number of issues: a) what kind of hair? b) how many hairs were there that I didn't find? c) why did I eat it all? Each of these questions occupied my thoughts at length.
a) What kind of hair? Short, black. At the first strand I hopefully thought jersey fluff and imagined a chef in a striped woolly jumper. At the second hair I considered animal hair, and happily imagined a dog preparing my food. At the third and fourth, the longest yet, I had to face up to their probable human origin. Ick.
b) How many hairs didn't I find? If X = number of sushi rolls, Y = length of hair, Z = my powers of observation, then, obviously, X+YxZ/Yx2. Just cos. Another line of consideration: was I eating different hairs or the same hair, laid the length of the sushi roll and sliced along with it?
c) Why did I eat it all? This is simple: I was hungry and couldn't be bothered cooking anything. Also, I'd been picking dog hair out of my mouth all day, and was this any less healthy? If we'd been at the restaurant instead of eating delivery, then perhaps I'd have showed the staff (but perhaps not, I hate conflict).
The horrified look on my table-mate's faces suggests they have higher standards of hygiene and more power over their stomachs.
The woman who took our order said that the Yakitori was white meat but it sure wasn't. It was also icky, though the dogs thought otherwise. The Oshitashi (spinach) is outclassed elsewhere.
This is my friends' favorite sushi place in Park Slope. They've had plenty of good luck so my experience may be atypical. -

The only reason why I tried this place out is because Song from across the street isn't open until 5pm. (It was 3pm when we got there.)
My overall experience turned out to be pretty good until my waitress peeked inside the check book in front of my bf and I to see how much tip we left for her. As we left, she had a pissed off face- Apparently, 15% gratitude for lunch (2 orders) is too little. -

Today, on a whim, I accompanied two of my lovely colleagues on a trip to Ginza -- all of us had never been there, and we were eager to try a new restaurant! We'd come with the intention of ordering sushi, but once we decided to sit at the Hibachi table, we could not resist!
The Hibachi is everything you expect -- great entertainment and showmanship on the part of the chef, lots of food, and fast-paced fun. Between the three of us, we tried the scallops, chicken, shrimp, and filet mignon -- all were very good!
I observed the chef making a couple of changes based on a child's special dietary needs, so it was neat to see that they were able to make adjustments.
We were surprised we weren't offered dessert! The check came while we were contemplating green tea ice cream (not that it was necessary after ALL THAT FOOD)!
Free pineapples arrived at the end of the meal. That's right, free pineapples. -

Lunch was horrible.
The Vegetable Tempura Bento box consisted of potato, taro and a piece of broccoli. The Steak Teriyaki Bento was ordered medium well done but came out ultra rare. They split a California roll between the two of us and the salad was a bowl of iceberg lettuce.
The service was horrible, they stand next to you talking during the entire meal or behind you not talking but making it awkward to have any sort of private conversation, even in the completely empty restaurant and the food in general wasn't worth going out in the snow for.
We were considering ordering the fried banana for desert, they brought the check without asking us if we were done or if we wanted anything else. They literally dropped it down and took off. -

Hibachi! So...that is this place in a nutshell. Hibachi! Also the chef I had last time had THE BEST HIBACHI TRICK OF ALL TIME. Yes, better than the red string in the ketchup bottle, even. Here is how that works:

Mordicai: Yes.

I came here with my boyfriend after we kicked around food ideas for a few minutes.... when we finally settled on sushi I was a little sad because I wanted something a little more hearty than a few rolls.
Then we found Ginza.
On a Friday night, we still managed to be seated at a hibachi table right away with another party. I figured, when in Rome and ordered the hibachi filet mignon and boyfriend ordered sushi. The hibachi chef was great, all the food on my plate was awesome (fried rice, vegetables, two shrimp, and filet mignon). The sushi I tried (tuna) was great - the fish was so fresh and the rice was perfect. The rest of the sushi on the place was apparently awesome as well.
Ginza, we'll totally be back.Listed in: It's a Date!, Brooklyn: Better than…

This is your normal hibachi place. I'm pretty sure every hibachi chef has the same exact training (make the fried rice into a heart, light the onion and put out the fire with the boy that squirts water out of his pee pee, toss vegetables into peoples mouths, etc...)
I have been here twice now, and the first time, I think I got the chicken, which was slightly dry, although the second time, I got the steak, and that seemed to be ok. I wouldn't say that anything is spectacular about this place, neither was it that bad.
Depending on your chef, you may have a slightly better show at the hibachi grill, but it's all basically the same thing. Definitely got my craving for hibachi sated here, but then again, I was pretty hungry, so my standards were not that high. -

Huge portions!
I had the spicy tuna roll and the tuna, mango, avocado roll. I've also tried the chicken hibachi and my boyfriend had the steak hibachi. The lunch special prices are great, but I don't think dinner here would be worth it for the price.
The teeny bopper music they play in the restaurant is annoying. -

My husband and I normally LOVE this place. Their food is delicious! They are a little bit on the pricey side, but the portions are larger than most Japanese places, so it's worth it. HOWEVER, our most recent experience was terrible and I will NEVER step foot in there again.
Our bill was $53 and my husband left about a $6.00 tip, which admittedly is a bit on the low side, but we just spent over $50 on dinner AND it's a recession AND the service wasn't that great this time around, our waitress was a bit on the rude side. As we're getting ready to leave, the waitress comes over and says to my husband "How much is the tip?" Thinking she couldn't read his hand writing, he tells her. She says "Oh no, there is a 15% minimum for tips." Um, no there's not. It's not mandatory that you tip at least 15%. A tip is a direct reflection of the service and the service wasn't kinda crap, so that's all you get. You want a bigger tip, be a better waitress!
After that, my husband gave her one cent more. I was so offended I would've crossed out the tip entirely and left her with nothing, so she's lucky I wasn't the one footing the bill that evening. Needless to say, we won't be going back. -

If you want to eat at the Hibachi (big grill, cook in front of you, chef do tricks, laugh & clap), for the love of God, make reservations first. We tried to go on a whim, but they refused to seat us due to other parties w/ reservations. Even if you have reservations, get ready to wait and go through a bit of drama when seats might be ready, but then really aren't. The waitresses/hostesses can be a bit pushy about seating you quickly at the Hibachi.
There is also sushi and other Japanese food available and yes, you can still order from the Hibachi menu without sitting at it, just like we did. I ordered a teriyaki chicken dish which came with soup, salad, fried rice side, Hibachi veggies, Hibachi shrimp (3 small ones), and the teriyaki chicken. Other than the soup/salad, the other items weren't very flavorful and the 2 dipping sauces they give both tasted too strongly of ginger for my taste. For about $19-25 per Hibachi dish, I'd say wait until you can sit at the Hibachi (you're paying for a show) or otherwise head to any other Japanese place, where you're likely to get better food. -

I stopped in here late just for a simple garden salad and some green tea ice cream. Both were amazing! They use *the* best mango/ginger dressing I've ever had with really good greens, and the green tea ice cream was the best I've ever had.
Great prices and nice staff, too.
