I finally got take out after a year of driving by. I don't know why I hesitated. Gino's is a very solid neighborhood trattoria (unfortunately that name was taken by another restaurant in TO) distinguished by good ingredients prepared simply and with care and confidence. Everything came out just right. The caesar salad had a homemade dressing (you could taste the anchovy and lemon; how perfect!), the linguine with mushrooms had a good pasta/sauce balance and the pasta was al dente; the spaghetti carbonara had wonderfully crisp panchetta and a good balance of cheese, egg, and cream. Even the bread (which I used to eat the remaining sauce) had wonderful flavor.
Plus, portions were great -- enough for a meal and a lunch the next day. I'd definitely place Gino's above Spumoni and Roma. Give it a try; at least for take out. -

Came in for lunch on a weekday close to noon. The place was empty except for the hostess/waitress and server/cook.
We ordered the talapia, chicken ravioli and fettuccine Alfredo. The reviews for both the talapia and Alfredo were good. The ravioli left something to be desired. Each meal came with a soup or salad and totaled ~$14 each, including tax.
Overall the food was good but the service was overpowering at times. We might have had a different feel if we hadn't been the only ones in the restaurant... -

Gino is nice, but the place is so dirty, don't look at the carpet, you will lose your appetite.

Went here based on the few good reviews I have read. Not impressed. Service was very good; the hostess opened up a closed section when we asked for a booth. Our waitress came right away and took our order. We even met Gino, who seemed charming enough, although he kept wandering back and forth by our table, a little much for me. Anyway, to the food...the bread was good ( although I prefer olive oil/balsamic vinegar as opposed to butter). My husband's salad was drenched in a balsamic vinegrette and look quite uninspired. The menu did not have a huge selection, I ordered gnocchi in pink sauce, it was ok. My husband got chicken parm. He enjoys angel hair pasta; but the waitress said we could only have penne....ok, whatever. Suffice it to say, we have had better. The food was just ok, I expect more, especially for the prices they were charging. We probably will not go back.

I've driven by this establishment countless times over the last few years living in the NP area, and was always curious to try it. The opportunity presented itself last night. It was hubby's birthday, I came home late after working a night shift...and we wanted to go out and have an awesome dinner, darn it. You know how impossible it is to find places open past 9pm in this area, don't ya?
Gino's neon "open" signs were still glowing at 9:30pm. We were ravenous by this point.
The second we walked in, we immediately felt like family. The decor and atmosphere was cozy, clean, comfy, and classy. 4 C's. Rad!
As for the important stuff, such as the food? The food was WONDERFUL. The bread they served before was light and airy, not heavy, greasy or dough-y. The service was attentive, efficient, and friendly. Gino not only cooks the food (which DID taste like it was made with love) himself, but serves it to you as well. My vegetarian pasta was made with just the right amount of olive oil and garlic. Hubby tried the Pasta Carbonara, which was the closest to his dad's family recipe he's tried yet.
We're not big dessert or sweets people, so we didn't try any dessert. They do have a decent wine list and a full bar. We are stoked to find this local gem and will definitely be going back. -

Last week, we stayed at the TownePlace Suites, just a few hundred yards from Gino's Bistro. Being new to the area, we asked the receptionist at TownePlace Suites for some recommendations on Italian restaurants. She suggested Spumoni which is just across from their parking lot or Gino's. Since residents at the TownePlace Suites raved about Spumoni, we checked out their menu. It has five locations, while Gino's only had the one. We decided to be adventuresome and try Gino's.
It is a pleasant and comfortable restaurant in a strip mall type background and the interior doesn't look anything like an old Chinese restaurant that one reviewer described. It is family operated, with mom at the front, dad in the kitchen, and daughter serving. I had a linguine and clams with a white sauce for $16.95, while my companion had an eggplant parmigiana for $14.95. My meal came with a light dinner salad which was not overly drenched with dressing.
We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere was relaxing. The service was excellent and the chef came out to greet us. In our travels, if we are in the area, we will certainly try Gino's again. -

My boyfriend and I have come here a few times, and we have nothing but good things to say about it. They have delicious homemade bread, the service is excellent, and Gino is friendly and seems to do most of the cooking and serving. The last couple of times we have gone, we have gotten the scampi alla Gino as an appetizer, and I'm not sure what he puts in that sauce (we speculated angel tears), but we do everything to make sure we get ALL of it before they take the plate away. I got the lobster ravioli (which is amazing) and my boyfriend got linguini with calamari. In the past we have gotten the lasagna and fettuccine alfredo with chicken; everything we've tried has been excellent. We usually go in early, so there aren't that many people there, but the atmosphere is warm and friendly.

Had lunch there today. Small, family run Italian. Gino is from Naples. He comes out and tells you what is good; but, he says he'll cook anything, anyway you want it. I had gnocchi in meat sauce - excellent! Recommend highly. Reminded me of eating in Italy with the attention to customer satisfaction.

Very disappointed with this place. I was told it was about a few years old but by now they should have ironed the kinks. The food they served was very ordinary nothing special about it. Don't go here If you expect to be served authentic Italian food. The money I paid, which was not cheap, was not worth the food that I got. We left the restaurant disatisfied. The owner, an older man who was pretty loud and crude, was trying very hard to befriend customers possibly to make up for their below mediocre menu.

Tried to Yelp a good Italian place in Newbury Park, and decided to 'roll the dice' on a single review posted by Sharon R. Ordered to go, we got the Fettucini Alfredo, the Manicotti, and the Rigatoni. All were outstanding. I was surprised that at 6:30, there were still plenty of tables available at the restaurant. The only minor negative was the 'go' containers they used didn't quite hold everything completely, and we ended up with a bag full o' Fettucini juice. Other than that, score another 'hit' for us on Yelp-we'll be back! :)
