I've never been to this bar during peak/busy nights, but the times I've been I've enjoyed myself. Granted, I've been with my "ladies who like ladies" friends, but I've never felt any type of "us vs them" vibe, as I've experienced at some other places.

The drinks are good and cheap - and they have drink specials that are actual deals! The bartenders I've experienced there (men on every occasion) have been a little on the slow side, casually chatting up "regulars" at the end of the bar, even though new folk have entered.

The jukebox is fantastic, as is the big garden in the back. This place is great for groups - with cute nook seating in the front, small tables around the bar, and ample bar stools. There's also a pool table.

There is something about the lighting in this place that doesn't seem quite right to me, and gives the place a slight dingy, dive feel, which may or may not be the look they're going for. It doesn't quite work for me, aesthetically speaking and could lighten things up just a tad.

Still, you can't really go wrong here. It's a great neighborhood spot with more than a few friendly faces - whether you're gay or not.

Never Again.  My girlfriend and I went here to play pool after having a nice dinner across the street at Bellville.  After we bought a drink, we went straight back to put our names on the list, only to find that the players in the back were very cold and hostile, and I had to talk to the bartender to complain that the current player at the table would not answer me.  At one point I was actually threatened with physical violence by a woman who threatened to beat me up, and began banging her pool cue on the table.  I began yelling at the woman because she threatened to beat me up, and the bartender instead asked ME to leave, explaining that the potty mouthed trash were "regulars."

Just to put this in perspective, I am a college graduate with a Master's Degree and have never been kicked out of anyplace in my LIFE.  I find it very funny that someone should be able to threaten me with assault and that the bartender would think to throw out ME instead of the person pounding their pool cue on the table and threatening physical violence.

This place is a s**t-hole and the only people that go here are post menopausal dykes.

Like another reviewer mentioned - I want to like Ginger's.  I really, really WANT to like this place. On paper, it is my wet dream of a bar: close to my apartment, gay, pretty cheap, back patio where I can drink and smoke at the same time, pool table, juke box, cheesy music, nice bartnders; God, this place sounds perfect.

Except... the crowd here is usually older, not attractive, and boring. What's the problem, you say? Bring friends and create a party! Except... the crowd is sometimes so boring, they suck the life right out of you.  The crowd here is actually able to take fun and turn it into ennui simply by their lack of enthusiasm.   It's like I'm Harry Potter walking blindly into a room full of Dementors.    After spending an hour here, go across the street to Excelsior to remind yourself what laughter sounds like.

We went to Ginger's with high hopes, most of which weren't met. My girlfriend and I had a couple of $7 beers and had fun people watching. We were excited about going to a lesbian bar in Park Slope but the music sucked and the crowd was just so-so: lots of regulars and lots of women on the prowl.

It's a Saturday night in Park Slope. What to do, what to do. Oh, I know. Let's go to Ginger's Bar.

Ethan F. and I step in, not knowing what to expect. We were both virgins. And we reeked of it. Fresh. Meat. We make our way towards the back and take a peek on the outdoor back patio area. After I get attacked by lezzies, we fight our way to the bar. I order Blue Moon. He orders Woodpecker...but I swear I heard Pecker as the beer name. Perv, I know.

The outdoor back patio area is well lit and strangely decorated with metal, rectangular plates with beer names, along with hub caps. Huh?! It starts to get cold out so we make our way inside, only to witness a hot mess of Ginger's Bar patrons. Great people watching in the room with the pool table.

The ladies are, well, on the older side. Thirties/forties plus. And not cute either. I may make a return trip but I don't think Ginger's Bar will be the first bar I think of going to.

I'm going to have to update my review. This place has gotten much better. They finally do carry Bud Light and the crowd was really fun. Bartender was quick, efficient, personable and generous. My experience here on Saturday night has changed the way that I see this bar. A friend of mine that generally has disliked Gingers like I did sent me a text the next day and said "Wow, Gingers was fun finally". Not quite sure what changed, but it was a GREAT time!

I went to Ginger's once, and I'll probably never go back.

The feeling I got from this bar is if you aren't a regular you are ignored. I tried really hard to start conversations with people (I'd like to think I'm a pretty normal person) and they completely ignored me. When I ordered a beer the bartender was pretty rude to me and got upset when I asked her to repeat the price (too much chattering in the background).

I'm giving this review 2 stars since the bar itself is OK. There is a nice patio area in the back and they have lots of lesbian literature you can pick up and read.

I personally didn't fit in with the crowd, but maybe you will. If you are new to town give it a shot, but don't expect too much.

I was here Saturday afternoon. I stopped in for a quick drink after looking through Next magazine. This was the one that was open at the time. Even though it said lesbian bar, it did say it was guy friendly and since it was rather early I figured there wouldn't be a crowd.

I came in and I was the only one there. The nice bartender asked my order. I saw they had Yeungling on tap so that's what i got. While I was drinking a few girls did come in. They did not make anything of me being a guy in a lesbian bar.

As I was about to finish my beer, I asked about the location of the restroom and was directed to the back of the bar.

After I finished my business I came out to finish my beer.

A very nice patron handed me my wallet. Apparently I had dropped it. I thanked her. I finished my beer and skedaddled, but not before thanking the bartender and the nice customer.

While bar-hopping in Park Slope on Halloween, we heard some awesome dance music coming out of Ginger's Bar. Not until we'd ordered a drink did we realize it was a gay joint. Mind you, I was dressed as a sailor.

Within minutes, I was approached by a man in a banana costume attempting to grind on me. I politely declined, as I was a bit still in shock mode. Don't get me wrong - I'm a straight, while male, but I'm not homophobic. That being said, I was, for the most part, comfortable here.

I love dive bars. And, if I was gay, Ginger's might be right up my alley. While waiting for my girlfriend outside the bathroom, a trans-gender male asked me of my relationship with the girl in the toilet. When I said we were a couple, the lesbian bartender asked if I knew he was a boy (the trans-gender dude, not my girlfriend). As trite as this sounds, I was well aware, and the inquiry was respectful, never pandering. Who knows if I was being hit on, but I don't think that's the point. The point is if you hear awesome dance music, and your first inclination is to think it isn't coming from a gay bar, you're sorely mistaken. It was Halloween - you really think I knew better?

Anyway, if you're gay, this place could be a fun bar. If you're straight, Ginger's won't pass judgement. Drink your drink, beat up the beat, and know you're being welcomed here with open arms. You should be so lucky to have a gay joint so hetero-friendly.

    Never, ever again.
If you are not one of the typical white regulars,
you are treated like dismissable trash. Not only
did I feel uncomfortable and disrespect but rude
comments were made to me about the music
choices that I made with MY money on the jukebox.
Not everyone likes drab, depressing lesbian ballads.
    Like I said, never again.

Great ambience. Even on a weekend night, it wasn't too packed and was full of fun people who seemed like regulars - chatting at the bar, playing pool, hanging out, and just enjoying themselves. I would've loved to play a round of pool with the girls at the pool table - almost everyone seemed like someone i'd like to hang out with. It was like walking into a brand new world with a vibe that you'd never find in manhattan.

Decent amount of space, seats here and there, but I didn't see anyone pushy who was really there on their own or looking to pick up girls; seemed like a place that you'd go to with friends or girlfriends.

Drinks were alright, but I'd highly recommend going up to the bar with a drink in mind rather than choosing one of the specials.

So there I was, wandering along 5th Avenue in Park Slope on Sunday evening.  A blackboard announcing 2 for 1 drink specials catches my eye.  The sign states the happy hour shall cease at 8:00.

Checking the time, I see it's exactly 7:52 and I figure what the hell, I've never been in here before, why not see what this place is like.

Tending bar is a woman in an Eli Manning jersey who looks like she could kick my ass with at least one hand behind her back, probably both.  She informs me of what's available on special and I order a Brooklyn Lager.

On the far side of the bar sits an even tougher looking woman, also in an NFL jersey and catching the day's highlights on ESPN.  Closer to me are two short-haired women who appear as if they could be a couple.  I confidently decide neither one could take me on with the facilities of more than one hand removed.

So I'm imagining this is how a lesbian sports bar would be.  Then I notice the plaques on the wall from Zagats and the like and finally realize that if not a sports bar, a lesbian bar Ginger's most definitely is.  I haven't felt so out of place since once misguidedly boarding the Tokyo subway on one of the women's only cars.  Yep, a slick one I am indeed.

Off in the corner four women are seated at a table.  Two on one side are holding hands.  The two on the other side don't appear to be intimately involved, at least not from listening in on the curly-haired cutie's stories.  I attempt to mind my own business and focus on my beer; however, the snippets of conversation I can't avoid overhearing prove to be too much to bear:

"It was only my second lap dance ever..."

"And then she grabbed her other boob..."

"They started having sex up against the wall.  And I said hey; like, can you two stop having wall-sex in front of me..."

At this point I need to piss like a racehorse, but remain rooted to my barstool instead.  I'm unsure they would even have a men's room in here, and if they did, I'm terrified some psycho feminazi would be waiting to hack off my balls.

Now my beer is gone and so are the curly-haired cutie and her crew.  There's been a shift change and the new bartender is...male.  Still none of the other patrons are.  But the deal was two for one and I'm determined not to miss out on a free drink.

Next to me is a jumbo jar of house-infused vodka.  What was it infused with you ask?  What else - ginger!  Pounds and pounds of wonderful ginger.  I do love ginger and want to switch away from the Brooklyn Lager, but am dubious this concoction will qualify as well liquor.

"Uh, excuse me, but is this drink ticket good for the um, ginger-infused vodka, 'cause like, I'll understand if..."

"How would you like it," the new bartender cuts off my prattling, "neat?"

"Um, yes.  Neat would be fine, thank you."

That was some damn good vodka.  The ginger infusion was intense.  I want to drink that vodka again sometime.

So I hope it's alright if a straight guy enters Ginger's for a return visit.  I'm not one of those gauche clods who goes around doggedly hitting on lesbians.

Unless you feed me too much of that homemade firewater; in that case all bets are off.

If you're a lesbian in Brooklyn, Ginger's is the place to be. The drinks are generous, the pool table is always full of sexy dykes, the back patio is spacious and cozy. I've been there for my birthday and just to meet with friends over drinks. Being in the middle of Park Slope is great because the local crowd is hot, but it is a little bit of a walk from public transit.

The bartenders are friendly and everyone seems to know everyone, but unlike some places, I didn't feel too much of a clique atmosphere. A couple of things to keep in mind: on weekends, the place is packed (we went for Pride couple of years back and it was impossible to get IN the place!), and there's always a line to the bathrooms, though they're clean and well stocked. Other than that, it's a fab spot.

I went to Ginger's tonight excited about venturing out to Brooklyn with some friends. When we arrived Ginger's felt so stereotypical it was disgusting...miserable ass Alanis on the jukebox and old lesbians with short hair cuts drowning their sorrows in beer straight from the tap. But me being me, I had to liven things up with some old school hip-hop, some electric sliding and other fun events. So here is the official run down:

    Pros:
    -cheap drinks.
    -outdoor patio is fun.
    -great bartenders.
    -a nice sized space.
-women for all ages to enjoy.

    Cons:
-the typical lesbian racial divide of whites with whites and browns with browns ( i hate that).
    -rude ass patrons.
-only one pool table with possessive lesbians manning it.

Average night but ill never go again.

Ginger's has neither the sleekness of a scene from L-Word nor the dinginess of a butches-only meat market. It is what it is: a lesbian bar full of down-to-earth lesbians - mostly late 20s through 40s - just trying to hang out, watch some sports, and have a drink.

The music's awful, but that's kind of part of the charm.

Went to watch Game 3 (or was it 4?) of the World Series on Halloween, and had a blast eating free candy, watching all the ladies in their awesome costumes, and having a drink with the gf.

You don't have to look your best. There's no sizing each other up. There's no drama. I'd go back just to hang.

I love Ginger's.  The owners live in the neighborhood and can be seen tending bar on busy nights.  The prices are good, the bartenders are great, there is a TV, a pool table, and a huge outdoor space.

I like the crowd - on a weeknight you can show up with a friend or two and make friends with other patrons.  Most are lesbian/bi, some are gay/bi men.  Those that are straight blend in with the crowd.

They give back to the LGBT community - donating space for the Dyke March to hold an after party - and letting them charge a cover - the ONLY night with a cover - a rarity (it seems) in NYC LGBT nightlife.

Bring a $5 bill for control of the TouchTunes Jukebox!

Sadly for me, there weren't many lesbians here last night. Nevertheless, I had a fun time. The patio was lovely, but we weren't allowed to stay out there very late. I saw on the chalkboard that there were $5 blueberry martinis; I ordered one and was shocked to find that it's basically hooch that comes from a giant booze-and-blueberry-filled apothecary jar that sits on the bar atop a wobbly Harry Potter book. One of those and I was wasted out of my mind.

Maybe next time there will actually be some lesbians here. That would be nice.

    Ginger's is just OK.

First of all, I'm not sure if this was a random fluke the one night I was there, but the crowd was definitely OLDER. Like 35+. Which is obviously fine, but not really my thing. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and tons of young people hang out at Ginger's... it was a decent bar and I'd definitely go back if I knew anyone in their 20s was going to be there.

The bar itself is fine... a big front bar area with a jukebox, a little back room with a pool table, and a decent-sized back yard with picnic tables and a little tent thing in case of rain. Oh, and there were lots of plants out back. If you have unwanted plants I'm sure you could take them there and no one would notice because there were literally potted plants everywhere. which was kind of weird.

The drinks are strong, and the specials are decent. A different $5 drink each night of the week, and $5 blueberry martinis every night. However, the blueberry martini tastes like everclear and a melted grape jolly rancher.

Would I go back? Yeah, if I'm in the area and I want to start my night with a strong drink or two. It's fairly cheap and very laid-back. But then I would go somewhere else... pretty quickly.

See my friend Dave P.? Insult him through the Compliments section for going up to the bartender here and saying, "Do you know LoGo TV?"

    What an idiot.

Anyhew, this is a great bar to really have some unpretentious fun. Yes I'm a straight man. Yes this is a lesbian bar. Yes that looks stupid on my part. But really, who gives a flying fuck. I'm not there to hit on anyone, to me it's just another bar on 5th ave, and a good one at that. Plus I can lure my Manhattan lesbian friends to Brooklyn for once using it.

There's a pool table in the back with overhead light and with enough space to play (fancy that, enough actual room for a pool table), there's darkness everywhere else, some rowdy dancing, clean toilet seats (kind of a given) some kissing, some smooching, some hilarious dark humor, some really good dance music, and just a great overall vibe to the place. Everyone's happy, and you can't go wrong with that. Certainly beats dealing with machismo, even though Arnold is truly numero uno.

OK, so I absolutely love Ginger's. It's very chill and has a comfortable semi-divey decor. The bartenders are AMAZING and the drinks are cheap.

The crowd is basically exactly what you would think it would be, though there tends to be more boys than I've seen in other girl bars. Male presence is a complete non-issue, which I like, except when they try to pick you up, which is just weird (and there are a few semi-regulars who go with the express purpose of doing so).

It's got a really nice open yard area and a pool table (which is always taken on weekend evenings). It stays open late, and the juke box is awesome in a totally cheesy "I don't admit that I know all the words to Oops I Did It Again" kinda way.

I want to like this place, I really do.  But in the end its nothing to write home about.  The bartender are hard working and the crowd is eclectic and diverse (big plus).  But, meh, sadly it's nothing special.  It's deserted during the week.  I dig coming here on a Thursday to grab a beer with a buddy-but its in a neighborhood littered with better bars that are all by default queer friendly.  Everytime of come on a weekend I'm disappointed and wind up heading into Mahattan or Billyburg for lesbian events.  There's no dancing (save the drunk girls in line for the bathroom) but also not really much room for you and your entourage to post up comfortably.

I hate, hate, hate to say it....but there are never many hotties at Gingers.  The hot lesbians of BK collectively go to Manhattan for ladies nights.  This weekly exodus is ridiculous considering how many attractive dykes live in Park Slope/Bed Stu, but thats how it goes I guess.  BK never really recovered from Catty Shacks closing.

I'm pulling for Ginger's, fingers crossed it continues to get better!

Totally lame. I've tried going here several times since Cattyshack closed. Each time I hope that the people and atmosphere has magically migrated. It has not. It's got all the makings of a good bar - great outdoor space, reasonable prices, and a pool table. But it's just so lame. Every time I've been, seriously every time, there's this same chick at the pool table trying to hustle you or hit on you or something of the sort. Come back Cattyshack!

I went here years ago on a date and couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the place, so I was glad when I found it again.

It was uncomfortably crowded and a smidge intimidating on the Saturday night when I went recently.  The bartender was disdainful & they no longer had the blueberry martinis that other yelpers had referenced, but my beer was okay.  The place was indeed chock-full of lesbians of all ages and I was flattered when a young butch complimented my shoes.  I'm planning to investigate their happy hour sometime soon.

I came to Ginger's for the first time on a recent Saturday night and it was packed. It was really only overcrowded out back on the patio, but it was like...miserably packed. There was a rowdy game of flip cup going on outside and the ladies had to be yelled at by management to keep it down because neighbors had been calling 911 to complain about the noise.

I think, though, I would enjoy this place on a more low key night. The night I happened to go there were a couple different birthday parties going on so it was a little nuts. I give three stars with the definite potential for more.

This was my 2nd time at Ginger's. The first time I was brought here was after a Tegan and Sara concert. Some girls whom I was chopping it up in conversation with while waiting outside for the band to come out invited me after the meet and greetings were done. I've never really gotten asked to go to a bar before by people I've just met ha ha. Whoa, I just told you my life story or something.

Anyways, the back area of this place had a nice chill atmosphere. The bartenders were really nice and even gave me a free drink. The music was great and the people mingling were real cool.

So far, this only counts for the karaoke on Thursday nights. The host Anna is surprisingly disrespectful of the clientele who are not her friends. A group of friends and I came in for beers early on a Thursday night and promptly put names in for karaoke - not only were we forced to wait over an hour to have our song come up, but the hostess put herself in the lineup at least twice and had jet friends sing multiple songs in a row.  We finally got sick of waiting and left.  It could have easily turned into a night out with lots of drinking and fun - If this is how Gingers expects to draw folks in and keep the locals happy this is not the way to go. We would have stayed longer and spent more $ on beer, but it became painfully obvious that we didn't matter. There were 6 of us. Bummer for Gingers - that could have been at least $60 in cash. ((shrug))
We'll go to Bar Reis next Thursday instead.

I went here last month on a Friday night for the first time with a friend.  The place was virtually empty with the exception of a few people (mostly AGs) around the bar and a few more in the back room playing pool.  Other than that, they played really good music (hip hop and old school) and the drinks were strong.  I would definitely like to see this place with a bigger crowd.

I mostly like Ginger's. It's pretty relaxed, the pool table is comfortably situated in the back room instead of right in front of the doors, and they have my favorite mixing combination of beers on drafts. It's an unpretentious place to just hang out with friends and play a bad game of pool. However, I want to note that I have had the experience where gross straight men harass my friends twice now. I hope these are isolated incidences.

My friends and I were walking up and down 5th ave. We saw this spot and heard the bumping tunes. We didn't realize it was a lesbian bar until we saw a whole bunch of lesbian couples. We're not homophobic, so we decided to stay. We had a lot of fun that night. Particularly at this place. The music was fun and the lemon drop martinis were good! Everyone was friendly and so nice.

Ginger's is one big ball of a good time. There seems to be something interesting going on everytime I go in from Karoke to FREE bbq. I love this place. My only problem is with the cantankerous old man bar keep who seems to have missed the official notice that his board short, beater days are over. What a grump. Steer clear of him and go have fun in the awesome backyard.

I absolutely love Gingers.  I have had way too many great times there to count.  It's very laid back, whether empty or packed. The owner Sheila is cool and the bartenders are great.  Iveth makes the best Bloody Mary's and Martini's around and Candice is also a welcomed surprise when she is behind the bar.  The juke box has a good selection, the only problem is when every Lesbian chooses the same 5 songs...lol

The two times I have been to Ginger's, its been really dead.  But, the bartender is very kind and there is lots to look at and places to read and enjoy a drink.  Very friendly and inviting.

I have a lot of love for Ginger's.  It's a solid place to go for a decent happy hour (from 5-8pm), has a great yard, a pool table, a semi-crappy juke box, and it's either totally dead or totally packed.  Truth is, it's never really that spectacular, but i have so many great memories here.  Most of the bartenders are friendly.

The only real problem I have is that their mixed drinks have gone up way too high, and they're usually very weak.  I'm not a beer drinker, and I find it really frustrating that I can no longer afford to get drunk at what used to be my second home.  As a result, I haven't gone back much.  However, with the weather getting warmer, I'll most definitely be back...

This is a good bar to come to when you want to relax with your friends. My friends and I visited sometime in the afternoon on a Sunday so it was pretty empty. They had two domestic drafts for one deal which was kind of nice. There is a pool table and a nice outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. Overall I think this is a good place to come with friends to catch up. I'm not sure what the scene is like on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.

Ginger's is a nice, quiet bar. A good place to meet with friends, have a drink and catch up. But, for me, Ginger's is dangerous. There is a backyard outdoor seating area where you can drink and smoke. I smoked almost a whole pack of cigarettes the last time I was there.

The bartender was very nice. The bar was overall very mellow and I was happy that I didn't have to shout into the ear of the person sitting several inches from me in order to carry on a conversation.

As a patron of Gingers for many years, i can only say that Sheila, the bars owner, is a credit to the neighbourhood.  As a lot of bars have come & gone over the years, Gingers has withstood the test of time (having recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary!).  The barstaff are a great bunch of characters, always friendly, and generous in both their banter & buy backs. I support Sheila & Gingers wholeheartedly.... and wish them 10 more fun filled years.  Cheers!!   Gingers also features a pool table, a garden in the back of the bar, a really fun karaoke night (alt. Thurs), a cool jukebox, and sometimes the one & only DJ Crissy P will honor us with a hot, jumpin' dance night...   Just a great place to hang out.  Dig it...
