Best.Hot.Chocolate.Ever
I drink nonfat hot cocoa all the time but this... This was amazing.
I got the Classic Hot Chocolate with nonfat milk and it was amazing. It wasn't too sweet at all.
The only bad thing is that the cup is REALLY small for the price. The cup heat protectors are too big for it. So I felt kinda ripped off, but eh, it's good quality.
My fiance got the European and it was less sweet but really good. He used whole milk - bleh. :P
We also got a dark chocolate bar with nuts and OMG.
I wish this place was in LA. -

My husband bought me a little pack of Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates last Valentine's Day. I'm not huge into sweets but these little chocies were *so* good!
I really loved the Vanilla Bean Caramel and the Creme Brulee. And the Palet D'or... what can I say, what girl doesn't love golden chocolate? :D -

Dear Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates,
I wish I had never met you. I wish that you lived far, far away from me. I think about you all the time. When I can't sleep at night, it's not sheep I'm counting. No, it's your tantalizing macarons! ...almond...salty caramel...chocolate.
I wait for the day we are together once more so I can take that first bite into your decadent goodness. Until then, sweet dreams my love...sweet dreams.
Forever yours,
Kat A. -

This place would be the best bar in sacramento if Sugar was like alcohol.
Serving up the finest chocolates and truffles, GEC is no joke.
Try it, I definitely recommend this place.
Pros: Its like crack
Cons: Bad for your sanity.

The BEST macaroons here!
Dainty chocolates that are divine!
Great place for getting a special someone a gift, especially the ones that already have "everything" or don't need "anything". -

Chocolate addicts unite!! This place is amazing. I only wish it was a little cheaper for my poor stipend budget!
This place was rated as being in the top 10 chocolate places in the US. And after having come here and trying their caramel filled sea salt dark chocolate morsels of goodness, I know why. It is heaven. Pure chocolate heaven. You can tell that everything is made super fresh here too. Not the biggest store in the world, but it is crisp, clean and modern inside and they have plenty of staff to help out too, yet I hear there is usually a line here, so beware for that, especially with that 5 minute parking spot out front ha ha
They have some of the most unique chocolate flavors too--elderberry, coffee, raspberry....man that list just goes on and on and on and then all of sudden that assorted box of chocolates is empty...That's why you wish the chocolate was cheaper ha ha But all addictions come with a price, and they say chocolate is good for you, right?? heh
Plus they have this amazing sounding Mexican Hot Chocolate so next time I am in sac-town this is what I want! I hear, just like everything else here, it is perfect and amazingly delicious. Oh Ginger Elizabeth chocolates can you just appear magically on my doorstep right now? -

The best chocolate boutique in Sac. Salted caramel macarons are divine! The service is always friendly and they're willing to give suggestions for first-timers. The taste and quality of these chocolates can't be beat. Great for gifts and work events!

I'm a big fan of the macaroons here, and I'm not usually one for them. This is a great spot to bring a date or grab an indulgence for yourself.
I like how they change up their flavors of macaroon every time I come in. They also have a great selection of chocolates (I liked the lemon, but it was a bit bitter with perhaps some pith), some truffles and an indulgent, dense cake.
In the warmer months they have ice cream, and often do special stuff like a recent holiday cookie week, featuring different themes and delicious baked goods and chocolates. I recommend coming here and hitting up Trey B Cakes next door at the same time to round out your sweet tooth.Listed in: Best Sacramento…

YUMMY!
Delicious macarons and expensive looking chocolate!
Macarons are kinda small and that's all I've tried. They always have the same flavors though. Never tried the chocolate and I probably won't drop at least $2 on nibblet sized chocolate but the macarons are a yes!!! -

One day I desperately wanted a macaron. After being led astray by a few MacarOOns, I finally found a place in Sacramento that had them. The store specializes in chocolates and macarons only. The mood and look of the place was modern and clean while still being cute. I got one of every flavor (at $1.50 ea) that they offered. I especially enjoyed the yuzu, poppy seed and the salted caramel. These little cookies are melt in your mouth delicious. I will use all future holidays, starting with Valentine's day, as an excuse to come back to this place. Even my boyfriend, who isn't the biggest fan of sweets, absolutely loved the macarons with a cup of tea.

Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate is the place to go for chocolates, and especially hot chocolate. The shop is pretty small, but inside they have anything and everything chocolate that you would ever want.
My absolute favorite item on their menu is the hot chocolate. It's $3.50 for an 8 ounce serving, which may seem smaller than the Starbuck's hot chocolate you are used to, but it is so much better. They serve three types of hot chocolate:
-Classic American hot chocolate
-European sipping chocolate
-Oaxacan spicy hot chocolate
Each of them have their own unique flavors and they are all good- but my favorite is the classic American. It's like drinking milk chocolate. You have a choice of topping the hot chocolate with whipped cream or homemade marshmallows. I always pick the marshmallows and they are just delicious.
I've also tried the macaroons here. They are very pretty and very fairly priced at $1.50 each. Unfortunately, I didn't think they were quite flavorful enough- I'll stick with buying chocolates.
Notes:
-They usually have a tray of samples.
-They also offer cakes (slices or whole) and chocolate gift items. -
Review from Kara S.
Basically the best real chocolate I've ever had. I'm a fan of those little pieces that you can mix and match into your own collection of half dozen or dozen or more.
I've also had the Thanksgiving Cake which was a million flavors of fall chocolate wonderfulness.
The staff is incredibly helpful and nice with a formal aire. The pieces are fairly expensive, but considering this place is rated one of the best chocolate makers in the country, it's well worth the cost. -

If you don't know Ginger Elizabeth, you're about to get an introduction. She is the Sacramento chocolate goddess. This is because everything she touches is delightfully yummy (just look at that stuff in the window - I could eat one of each!!).
I first came across her chocolate masterpieces at the Ritz Carlton at Half Moon Bay a couple of years ago - which some of you know is my escape place where I go on my hermit weekends. While there, I drink wine, write, stare at the waves...and eat chocolate. Ginger Elizabeth chocolate.
At the Ritz, you get Ginger's chocolate (yes, she is a real person) at the end of your meal or if you order the chocolate wine pairing. And these chocolates are incredible. After you eat these, you'll not only wonder why restaurants would bother giving out mints at the end of their meal and not chocolate, but you'll also want to know where you can get more of these bite-sized goodies.
I know, I did. But in my crazy mind, I had assumed these special chocolates were only available at the Ritz--or some far away place like France or Switzerland. Little did I know I could get them in Sacramento. Who would have thought there would be incredible chocolate just blocks from my house? Amazing!!
I swear I did a little happy hop (and maybe let out a little squeal) when I walked past the Ginger Elizabeth store a couple of weeks ago on L Street -- and it was even better than I thought.
In addition to the chocolates, she also has hot chocolate, cookies, cakes and other things that make a chocolate-lovers heart go pitter patter.
I haven't actually met the chocolate goddess myself yet, but until I do, I will continue to worship her handmade treats. -

came here with the dilemma of a choice between this place and treybcakes right next door. decided to go into ginger's because i heard about their macaroons. had the rasberry macaroon and chocolate chip cookie. satisfied with the products but nothing special tbh. definitely not worth the price. the service was fast and extremely friendly but again... not worth the price.
macaroon: really small... soft texture (not what i expected at all, but that's a good thing), friend said that it tasted like play doh. overall, just ok. that's it: ok.
chocolate chip cookie: big! which was a definitely plus but still not worth the 3 dollars. couldve gotten a much better cookie from the sandwich spot that's the same size but at half the price.
overall verdict: wouldnt come here again unless i had money to just basically throw away. -

Review from Cindy S.
After reading and hearing rave reviews we decided to stop in for a cup of Ginger Elizabeth's highly anticipated hot chocolate. Why oh why does the cup have to be so small? The Classic American Hot Chocolate was a semisweet, rich and chocolatey concoction that instantaneously rushed through the body initiating a feeling of warmth and satisfaction with every sip. The hot chocolate was so thick and rich it literally tasted like a melted chocolate bar and surprisingly wasn't overwhelming.
My boyfriend had the Oaxacan Spicy Hot Chocolate. I actually liked this one a little more than the the Classic American since it was infused with flavors of cinnamon, chiles, vanilla and ginger. If you prefer spiced lattes and a little more than just chocolate go with the Oaxacan.
Its a little hard to justify $3.50 for a mini cup of hot chocolate unless I'm freezing from shredding a black diamond all day but for Ginger Elizabeth's I might be able to make an exception every now and then.1 Previous Review: Show all »

WOW!!! The best chocolate around. There isn't much more to say. If you love chocolate in every form, flavor, texture and variety - this is the place to go. If you are looking for quantity vs quality, this isn't the place to go. This is chocolate at it's finest. The shop is lovely, the service is excellent and the chocolate - well, it's fantabulous...
I am going to drop by in the coming weeks for the chocolate bars - they are great for baking. If you're going to bake from scratch, you should try this chocolate. Trust me, it's addicitve..... LOVE THIS PLACE....
Sincerely,
A Chocoholic... -

To me, any night that begins and ends with chocolate is guaranteed to be an enjoyable night. As a chocoholic, this establishment gets a 3+ rating by default. The additional 2 stars reflects the quality of ingredients used in each item, the decor in the room, as well as the pleasant interaction my friends and I received upon entering. Love, love, love!

Chocolate permeates the air and assails all of your senses at once. As the chocolate infused air makes its way into your lungs, you're overcome by a sense of well being and comfort. And, you suddenly want to look for that chocolate river in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (minus the bratty kids), so you can grab handfuls of pure chocolate to drink.
Welcome to Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates: The grownup version of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. I loved it the first step I took into the store. It was like stepping into an alternate chocolate universe. One moment you're in the real world, and suddenly, the first step into Ginger Elizabeth's is pure chocolate yumminess in your nostrils.
Love the decor of the small shop. Stark white decor with a half circle glass counter display that frames and displays the chocolate treats like artwork.
**European Sipping Chocolate**; not for everyone, because this is a thick concoction of bittersweet chocolate, but a yummy treat for chocolate addicts. My BF tried the **Oaxacan Spicy Hot Chocolate**, of course I took a sip, and this was fab.
We ordered the **Gianduja Cake** to go, and it was amazing! I seriously heart chocolate.
If you've never been here before, keep an eagle eye out for the shop. The shop sign's font is very fine and faint, so it's not readily seen from a car.
Are you looking for a little piece of chocolate heaven? If so, definitely come to Ginger Elizabeths! -
Review from Minh P.
Chocolate.... = winning! What else can you say? Ginger Elizabeth is a great little spot where the chocolatiers work their magic creating great chocolate infused with various flavors. Throw in the truffles, shortbreads, brittles, and MACAROONS and you are in for a calorie busting extravaganza of this cacao gold!
Away from your everyday hershey bars comes some of the most wonderful flavors of chocolate I have tasted. The chili chocolate, the dark chocolate, and the vanilla are some of my staples. But when I am feeling fiesty I will try a meyer lemon flavored chocolate or one of their ever changing seasonal treats. The quality of the chocolate they use is truly appreciated by myself, but the love they put in takes my heart away. Damn it, sorry the macaroons make me emotional. -

Don't know what to get Mom for her birthday? Need a little stocking stuffer for Christmas? Forgot to go Valentine's Day shopping? Ginger Elizabeth is a special occassion go-to for me because they have something for everyone (even gluten-free) in every price range. And they wrap everything nice and pretty.
This is a great spot for special occasion gifts, but it's also great for a little pick-me-up treat for yourself, like their monthly selection of gourmet cupcakes. Be warned, they usually only do a few different varieties for one day, and sometimes they sell out first thing in the morning. Order your cupcakes in advance. The hot chocolate and related desserts are yummy as well. It's really hard to go wrong with chocolate of this quality.
As for truffles, my favorite is of course, the salted caramel one. Although there's a dark chocolate classic truffle with gold leaf on top that is AMAZING with a glass of good red wine (I love a late harvest zin with dark chocolate for true decadence).Listed in: Sweet Tooth Trial and Error, 1 for You, 2 for Me:…

Salty. Caramel. Macarons. Do yourself a favor and throw down a buck fifty for one of these suckers. Then pony up another few bucks for a handful more, because you'll soon find that they really are as amazing as your fellow Yelpers claim. Not only is the flavor incredibly nuanced -- delectably sweet, with the slightest savory bite -- but the texture itself is a delightful blend of light and pillowy, yet chewy and gooey goodness.
I've tried some of the other flavors here (chocolate, brown sugar peach, chocolate banana), and while they would be stars in any other bakery, they just can't compare to the mouthwatering flavors that are going on with the salty caramel.
And with the chilly weather just around the corner, be sure to try their classic hot chocolate as well. It also comes with either whipped cream or one of their fancy marshmallows! The hot chocolate is super rich, and it tends to become excessively sweet as the drink cools. I always ask for mine extra hot because that seems to help balance the rich/sweetness. Enjoy! -

This place is extremely delicious!! I saw a picture of the Macorons on my friend's page and so I decided to try it.
At first, I thought the Macorons were going to big similar to the palm of your hand. But, I was wrong. They were tiny. I wasn't sure which one to get, so I bought all of the flavors (Almond, Black Sesame Cherry Ginger, Salty Caramel, and Chocolate).
All were delicious and had distinct taste. The Macorons had a hard outer layer, but soft once you bite into it. As you bite through the Macorons, the filling gushes into your mouth. It's so delicious!!
Almond Macorons were great b/c they were very sweet. Black Sesame Cherry Ginger had an interesting taste to it. It had a hint of tangy inside. Chocolate Macorons was my least favorite, but still delicious. I'm not a fan of chocolate. Salty Caramel was my favorite!! It tasted like toffee.
The place is in downtown and parking might be hard. But they do have 15 minutes parking in front of the place. Ginger Elizabeth has more than Macorons, they assorted chocolate. So, for those who love chocolate, I would suggest to try them.
I would definetly go here again!!! Love it!! -

What do you mean you haven't been yet? First of all, I understand the hesitation, they're a bit pricey BUT you have to at least try Ginger Elizabeth's (GE) hot chocolate! it's rich and creamy, and tastes like hot chocolate probably tasted back in the day before Nestle and Hershey's industrialized it. They also have an amazing milk chocolate nut thing that they sell in broken pieces-SO GOOD! There are pistachios and all sorts of delicious nuts surrounded by GE's delicious milk chocolate-a piece of this stuff is worth every penny! As for their macaroons I have tried a few flavors and can honestly say, for me, that they're not worth the calories or the money. The flavors are a bit bland and usually taste more like sugar and butter than anything else-and I have had true macaroons from Paris so I do have something delicious and dreamy to compare them to. I would also suggest skipping out on the cold "hot" chocolate they serve in the summer time. The concept is great but the taste is so-so, personally I prefer a frosty from Wendy's

My husband was the first to reluctantly introduce me to Ginger Elizabeth's. I say reluctant because he's a chocoholic and was kind enough to give me a nibble of his store bought GE chocolate bar (GE sells several types of chocolate bars at our local Nugget). After drooling all over the wrapper, he noticed that GE was a local business, so we decided to check them out online. They've got a nice selection of macarons and chocolate goodies that we just had to try.
When we ordered our hot chocolate (I got the American hot chocolate, my husband got the European hot chocolate) I was a little sad at the size of the cups until I tasted mine. If the cup would've been any bigger, I would've had a chocolate stroke, especially since I almost drank half of my husband's hot chocolate. My hot chocolate was tasty, but the sipping hot chocolate made me into a an instant chocolate addict. I got back in line and bought a bag of chocolate coins to make myself some sipping hot chocolate at home. Don't even get me started on their shortbread cookies! The chocolate nibs in those things are alone worth the 30 minute drive to Sacramento. We'd be there more often if they made their ice cream all year long. The freshness of their homemade ice cream is unsurpassed. I had forgotten how delicious fresh ice cream could be. Needless to say, my husband and I can't wait for their ice cream macaron season to begin! -

Absolutely amazing! The most delicious hand made chocolates ever. Their salty caramel and chewy lavender chocolates are to die for. They also have the most amazing hot chocolate in the world. I know its all been said before but seriously, this place is AMAZING. Finally got a chance to come in for some macarons (tried the salted caramel, chocolate, almond and the special of the day: yuzu rose poppyseed --all amazing but almond might have been the fave) and ended up leaving with a six pack of chocolates too. The fiance, who is not really a chocolate guy, happily shared a european hot chocolate with me--so rich and delicious--and loved the homemade marshmallows! When we got around to trying the chocolates (ok we only lasted a day), they were seriously the most decadent chocolates we've ever had. Stop in and treat yourself, and don't forget to bring some home to gift to someone you love!

Update: I was convinced it could never happen, but it did: Ginger Elizabeth's got EVEN BETTER!!
*****They now have ice cream!*******
Great Jesus, the salty caramel macaron ice cream sandwich is punch-someone-in-the-gut-if-they-even-think-about- taking-it sexy. At $5.50, it's the priciest ice cream sandwich I've bought outside of Disneyland, but so worth it. The cookies are large and in charge and there's a layer of real, buttery caramel in between cookies and ice cream. A more perfect dessert for me does not exist. It's probably a good thing I don't live very close.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Katie S.
Their chocolate bark with hazelnut, pistachio, and almonds are amazing. The dark chocolate is actually dark; the milk chocolate is actually milky... if you know what I mean... The milk chocolate is rich and creamy, and the dark chocolate is high in cocoa content, and bittersweet, tastes like around 72% dark. Ginger Elizabeth's nutty chocolate barks are $1.5/oz, which is actually not that expensive, considering that Godiva is $50/lb, and their milk and chocolate barks only have almonds and the cocoa contents are lower.
Moving onto the macaroons. $1.50 is a lot for a tiny piece, but if you had made them yourself before, you would know that the process is kind of a pain and I don't know anyone that makes them better than here at Ginger Elizabeth. I wish they would sell them at a special price when you buy 6 or a dozen, but I'm sure they don't because they know their macaroons are that good, and people would buy them anyway.
I did not buy any truffles because I'm not a fan of ganache/soft/caramel centers, but Ginger Elizabeth offers some really unique and bold flavors like lavender caramel, lychee elderflower, and passionfruit.
The Giner Elizabeth store is very small and easy to miss. But if you haven't tried their chocolates and macaroons, then you are the one missing out. Ginger Elizabeth is probably the best chocolatier in Sacramento in my opinion. Definitely give it a try!Listed in: Sugarhigh!

Review from Alex L.
I was practically shaking. I brought the miniature paper cup to my lips. I slurped the smallest steamy taste through the plastic lid. I savored the cornucopia of rich flavors in my mouth. I felt a shudder of ecstasy warm my body. I turned to my friend Chris and nodded in satisfaction at his recommendation.
He was right. The hot chocolate they serve here is the tastiest you'll ever try. Whether they add anything else beyond pure, rich, melted dark chocolate is debatable, as it tastes like nothing more than a warm melted chocolate bar. But oh what a chocolate bar it must have been. At first I was upset to only get a super small cup of the stuff, but after one sip of this ultra-rich treat I understood why.
They also have a number of other in-house creations that will get your mouth watering at nothing more than there description. I'll spare you that torture. Visit Ginger Elizabeth and find out for yourself. -

While spending quality time w the bf and sister, we wanted to get dessert after dinner. I saw the reviews of this place and had to try it. Reviews and rating, you did not fail at all. This place is deelicious!
Best Tiramisu cake i have ever ate in my life!
Fireworks shot up in the air with every single bite i took! Had just the right amount of sweetness and the smoothest moose ive ever eaten!
Macaroons:
Honestly ive only tried macaroons at 2 different places. Ginger Elizabeth's coffee macaroon was tasty! I didnt like one of them i believe it tasted like banana. But the other ones i tried were tasty! It's not as good as the tiramisu cake, but it is still good.
Chocolate bits:
I tried 3 different kinds. All of 3 wasnt that great to me. I can pass these.
All in all, i would definitely come back and try more items. I most definitely recommend the tiramisu cake! -

Updated for the frozen treats..
I love walking by and seeing the staff in their white uniforms. It's such a perfect little shop. They're holding Summer Ice Cream Socials on Saturdays-- putting "a contemporary twist on a nostalgic favorite".. $7 sundaes.
The frozen treats:
Frozen Hot Chocolate Parfait $4
Parisian Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches $5.5
Almond Rocher Ice Cream Bar $5
Sorbet Bar $4
Pints $7.5
I've never known the feeling of tasting something and wanting to slap someone but I felt it when I tried the Frozen Hot Chocolate. It was amazing. And I wanted to slap somebody. I couldn't believe it.
I've also tried the lemon and the salty caramel macaron ice cream sandwich and the girl helping sent me off with the bag and said the lemon would be the lighter of the two. I checked it later on and they pretty much looked the same to me and I couldn't distinguish which was which without eating it. Both good by the way. But, lemon is my favorite.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Helloooo macarons! Finally got around to trying the coconut and lime one. OMG. Mouthgasm.
Great spot. I love their frozen hot chocolate too. Don't let the small size fool you. It is enough for two since it is so rich!

Ginger Elizabeth is a treat to be experienced. If you are a lover of fine chocolates, I recommend this place.
They have a French vibe to them, and have a good corner of the market in Midtown for fine chocolates. The only place that rivals Ginger Elizabeth is Woodhouse Chocolates in St. Helena Napa Valley.
I like the fleur de sel, and also their macaroons (french, not coconut). -
Review from Sarah P.
I have craving for some Macarons and so I yelped this place and decided to check it out.
After 45 minutes of driving, my boyfriend and I finally arrived in front of this cute little shop. It looks really fancy from the outside and inside but I think the prices for their sweets are rather reasonable.
I had bought some quarter sized mini-macarons from San Jose's Santana Row's bakery for $1.25 before but for $1.50, their macarons are DELICIOUS.
We bought two of each flavors to taste test them and they were all pretty good. The peach and plum flavors were both a bit tangy but it was a good balance between the slightly sour filling in the middle and the creamy, sweet taste of the outer shells.
My favorite were the almond and salted caramel flavors, they were savory and SO SO GOOD! I didn't really like the chocolate flavored ones much because they were more bitter than I had hoped for, but if you like dark chocolate, I'm sure you'd love this one as well.
I also bought some of their little chocolate squares and they were pretty darn good as well. We picked out 12 flavors and most of them had very subtle hint of flavor except for a few like the creme brulee, almond rocha, and the cappuccino ones.
I'm definitely planning to go back to this place for their macarons, I LOVE THEM.
P.S. the way they package your treats are also pretty fancy and neat, I think it would make a great gift idea for people who appreciate chocolates and macarons!
