on a sunny fall afternoon
while listening to Nina Simone singing a fall afternoon kind of song
I tried on five hundred dollar black suede boots while talking to Harold and Ramon about music and sadness and Chie Mihara in a store on Fillmore Street
and no I didn't buy them, but my feet and I felt really fine all day.  and I forgot about you for that long.

that's gotta be worth something.

beautiful spendy designer shoes from france and spain.   sales people who know the merchandise.
footwear that really can elevate your mood and tilt your ass with a mere try-on.

(Harold and Ramon's names were changed to protect them from association with my shoe psychosis..and to help out my rhyme scheme)

Shoe selection & quality- soooo yummy.
Staff- lose the attitude.
Pretentious boredom does not impress customers.  Both the Pac Heights & Hayes Valley have disappointly hired the same brand of uppity.  Blah.

This place is awful, 84.00 awful. 84 dollars for a pair of shoes. I grew up spending 20 bucks on a pair of court classics at costco.

Charisse C. refers to that as progress.

Actually they have a great selection and I found a great pair of Pumas (which I'm wearing right now actually) totally on sale. Mostly womens shoes though, but thats really not surprising outside of footlocker.

So great little shoe store, unless your on a budget.

I always find very "interesting" shoes in here...very SF/NY uber-trendy with a high cool quotient.  The Chie Mihara stuff is FABULOUS, and by fabulous, I mean if I had to choose between rent and Chie Mihara....I'd have to think about it for a very.  long.  time.

I thought it was awesome that they carry shoes by Repetto - a very famous French maker of ballet (pointe) shoes...apparently Repetto makes regular shoes too, and they are quite chic - some of them VERY reminiscent of dance shoes.  They carry some high end Nike and Prada/Prada Sport.  However, their selection can be sparse at times...their location in Hayes Valley is a touch better, with their giant sale rack and all.

Just a note...the salespeople were kind of dead...

Trendy chic!  $ = quality.  It's true.  Well made shoes that look good - priceless.  If you want something different with a flair - you will likely find it here.

For this trip - I got a pair of Repetto brown leather/suede ballet flats.  It was SO comfortable and yet so chic!  How can a girl say no to comfort and beauty?  You don't - simply pull out the plastic and bring the shoes home.

Gimme money so I can buy shoes here.

Fabulously cool, sometimes painfully trendy, but always rad.  I love their selection of kinky pumps and fetching flats.

Gimme, gimme!

Great styles, great sales (which are actually pretty frequent).  Nice sales people -- easy place to buy fashionable footwear.

I would like to consider this shoe boutique for those who hold an appreciation for unique, handmade or just artistically designed shoes.  I found Gimme when I first moved to San Francisco, and especially after living in Italy (which undoubtedly contributed to my selective taste in shoes), Gimme never disappointed.  They carry a selection of couture brands that are commonly recognized, but they also carry a selection of European imports that are difficult to find.  This is not your buy on get one free shoe store.  This is for those serious about shoe shopping!

Very occasionally I get hooked on an exceedingly specific item and cannot rest until I find it. The difficult part of such a fixation is that what I see in my mind's eye is typically extremely exact and finding it can be difficult. The last time this happened I woke up after having a dream about red cowboy boots. From that moment my quest for the perfect pair was endless. I finally found them in a Western store with a life size golden cow out front, next door to a Wendy's, in Richmond. My precious red cowboy boots have been a mainstay in my wardrobe ever since.

Recently, I became fascinated with the idea of riding boots. Though I don't have a particular interest in equestrian activities (I once got called a "city girl" by a man I rented a horse from because I asked quite seriously, "Do horses drink orange juice?" Well, they eat apples, why WOULDN'T they also drink orange juice?) I love the classic, regal look of English riding gear.

While my silly product fascinations were once something I kept closely guarded, these days I have my favorite Washingtonian to share them with. When I first confessed my craving to acquire riding boots he advised against actual riding boots because, as he so smartly pointed out, they're made for riding and suggested that what I really wanted was a riding style boot.

And so the search began. We saw a promising pair in DC but determined that they were poorly made. We popped in and out of numerous shoe stores there and also here in SF but none met my particularly strict specifications until we arrived at Gimme Shoes. Here my favorite Washingtonian plucked a gorgeous boot from the window and implored me to try it on. I turned it upside down to find it marked "37" --- my size! The mate was found and I zipped both up. As I trounced around the store I couldn't help feeling that the ebony boots on my feet were made just for me. My favorite Washingtonian encouraged me to continue walking around and pelted me with more questions than an investigative reporter about the fit. A couple of other shoppers commented on how extraordinary the boots were. As I hemmed and hawed about the price my favorite Washingtonian reminded me that a pair of boots this well made would last forever and how he had never regretted spending more on something of high quality. As evidence he plucked a sneaker from the wall behind him and said, "You'll pay $90 for this and it won't last more than a year or two."

"These boots cost nearly a month's rent," I reasoned.

"Yeah and that only lasts a month!" came his reply.

As I listened to his sermon I continued walking around and admiring the boots in every mirror I passed. Silly as it may seem, I felt as if these boots could change things for me much in the same way the red cowboy boots had when I first purchased and began wearing them. I am a firm believer in the idea of the "signature piece" and its transformative powers. Then again, I thought, my beloved red cowboy boots had cost less than $100. However, the longer I wore these boots and the more my favorite Washingtonian talked, the more I attached I became. He asked me again about the fit and I once more replied how superb they were and went back to dithering internally about the price.

And then before I could pull the trigger it was done.My favorite Washingtonian had decided for me that I had to have them and went ahead and made the purchase. I stood shocked initially and then threw my arms around his neck and kissed him, simultaneously whispering thanks in his ear. The woman behind the counter broke up the love fest by saying drably, "We have a box for those."

And so began a new phase of my life, ushered in by my favorite Washingtonian and a perfect pair of Fiorentini + Baker riding boots.

To Be Continued. . .

I used to like this place.  A lot.  But I stopped coming here after I spent $350 on a pair of shoes only to find them at Macy's a few weeks later for $120.  Ouch.

Gimme Shoes is a great little shoe store! I think It might be one of the only stores my guy actually asked to stop by and take a look. We both have bought a few pairs of shoes here and been very happy. Staff is friendly and do not pressure you to buy!

I have always loved to browse this place. But I went there after a movie at the Clay. And  I found a fabulous pair of Chie Mihara boots ON SALE! I am so in love with them, I want to wear them to bed. The perfect walking/city shoe. The staff was really friendly - I love them! They even make me want to go back and buy that pair of flats that I have my eyes on...

Old favorite of mine. Guaranteed to find something super fresh in there everytime. Good for my feet and just as bad for my bank account. Although every pair of nice Italian shoes I've bought in there, dating back atleast 12 years ago I still have.

Nice job peeps at GS.
