Honestly, Gigino is so great.
The menu is a collection of long lists; all these good choices. Great neighborhood place in that way - you could go back a dozen times and not really repeat your order.
Oh man, the pizzas that come out of that oven. Perfect. And fast! I suggest sharing one as an appetizer.
A long, roomy space completely open to the park across the street. Great spot for warm NYC evenings. Tables outside too.
Service is good enough, not particularly friendly. But, the phenomenal menu more than makes up for it (especially the pizzas).
The bar could be better, it's not really designed for anyone to sit there. Too bad, that would be a nice upgrade.
WE LOVED GIGINO!!!!!
Seriously.
Go there.
Yes there are 2,000 items on the menu but the specials were the way to go. Killer bread basket-- fresh baked bread-- lots of kinds-- i was in heaven!
Appetizers-- oh god-- so good. The sauteed chicken livers were unreal. The sauteed goat cheese was insane, and all 3 of our pastas were outrageous. Black linguine with calamari in spicy red sauce -- oh my god amazing!!! So spicy but not burnt tasting, and the calamari was the opposite of rubbery, and the sauce was light and didnt overpower. The homemade ravioli might have been one of the best i've ever had, with a country like gravy sauce, and the third pasta-- i cant remember the name but there was duck involved-- was inventive, original, but still had a traditional home cooked satisfying taste to it.
The feeling of the place is very much what i would imagine tuscany would feel like-- big wood tables, exposed brick, flowers. Incredibly comfortable environment where you can order neighborhood basic italian or opt for something more creative.
Every neighborhood should have a place like Gigino. Maybe I'll just move to tribeca.
Great food, ambiance and affordable! Which completely made up for the mediocre service.
I had the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese last night....wow...it was terrible. Anytime you can get your hands on the dynamic combination of overcooked pasta with flavorless sauce, you GOTTA GET FIRED UP!!!!! Wow...sorry to chug the hatoraide, but miserable selection. Here's hoping the balance of the menu is better!
I love GIGINO!
I love it because there are 2,000 items on the menu to tickle my fancy.
I love it because I'm constantly surprised by how good the food is.
I.e. Ordered a peared cheese and arugula salad. Delicious.
I love it because I feel like I'm in a romanticy setting w/o being too cheesy.
Lastly, I love it because it's close. Gotta love the convenience.
got the delivery last night, papardelle and the gnocchi... both of the pastas were pretty gross (VERY overcooked), tasted kind of like chef boyardees. the meatballs with the gnocchi were OKAY but somewhat bland. ceaser salad had a funny odor to it too. and the desserts (bread pudding and tiramisu)... totally underwhelming. would not recommend, at least for delivery.
Came with a bunch of people, it's the only way to go when you're eating italian. There's a $30 dollar price fixe on Sundays and you get a good amount of food. My friend got the pizza but it looked spongey. I'd go with the pastas over everything else. Oh and if they have a special with truffles, go with that.
Gigino Trattoria (homemade zeppole) [Taste of TriBeCa] - once I saw powdered sugar it was like fairy dust, I immediately ignored the pasta and made an A-line to this, sofa king awesome!
I can't believe this place doesn't cost more money! But then, that is part of what makes them so great. They have the type of food I've typically come to expect from extremely expensive restaurants, but at a fraction of the price. I have a rule- I will not pay for food, in general, that I can make better myself at home. Italian restaurants often get nixed by me because I learned how to cook from different friends in Italy and can whip up a decent meal. But Gigino did a great job of reminding me that there are indeed talented chefs who can blow my cooking by the wayside- and I LOVED it! We got a pizza, a red beet pasta, and a side of green beans. Everything was absolutely marvelous. I'll have to go back when I'm a bit hungrier and can try some of the meats and fish. My only complaint with this place was the few families who felt the need to bring their screaming children to the restaurant. But I'm not sure what the restaurant can do about that other than to adopt a "no children" rule. Which I would just love, until the day that I have kids of my own, at which point I'll disagree with the rule:)
Their pizza is absolutely delicious. I have had it a few times, and it's always excellent; very rustic, simple and beautiful. I tried their pasta once, and it was just mediocre. Come to Gigino for the pizza.
The atmosphere is very familial - lots of families sitting at long tables, clinking glasses of Chianti, feeding spaghetti to their little ones, and generally making merry. This 'neighborhood-y' feeling is rare in New York, and it really speaks volumes about the restaurant that they have managed to capture that in their customers and atmosphere.
Overall, a solid Italian staple. 4 stars.
Had a late-light-sunday lunch here, we were sitting bedise the door and the park is right accross the street, the entire area is populated with pregnent moms and adorable kids. We had asparagus as appetizer and baked fish, nicely decorated. Must mention the super refereshing olives!!! Such a nice place for weekends with daylight.
I have been here well over a dozen times, not including an equal number of times when I have ordered in from here.
The caprese and pastorella are my fav appetizers. The pizzas are done right, the pastas a little less so. Add the tartufo gelato for dessert, should you have room to spare.
The service is quite good, although it has its share of inconsistencies. The ambience itself is one of an Italian family dining establishment. They could infuse some more creativity in the menu, but hey--they are not alone in lacking in this department.
this will now become my favorite italian restaurant, you will say, " maybe you haven't try other?" but i did tried babbo, ll mulino, alto...those are great but too expensive to go there too often, right?
i like their pasta, went there 3 times and each tried different pasta dishes and they all can surprise me! the combination, the aroma, the sauce, all very different from other places, the price is very reasonable, kids friendly, always packed, good service even on a busy day.
favorite eating place is somewhere provide you with good food, you can go there any time and not too worry about your wallet.
Sister restaurant with Gigino's at Wagner Park.
Not sure why, but the food is much better here. Good place to go on a weekend or weeknight. Nice cozy atmosphere too.
somewhat pricey
Not too dark in there. Great pizza. Not frozen. The egg plant appetizer is a bit salty but still good. The pastas are quite tasty and cheesy. The pizzas themselves are large for one person, but they always pack it up for you if you want. Their desserts are good. Overall its a good place to eat, you can't go wrong, you'll never find a fly in your food. The staff is friendly, and they do understand that there are vegetarians out in the world.
Are business lunches ever bad? Went her yesterday with 2 coworkers for a meeting. Had the tuna belly salad (tasted mroe like prosciutto) which was good. I also had the homemade black spaghetti with squid. coworkers had some chicken thing and the other had the grilled whole branzino special. everything went well, capped it with a double espresso, very nice to sit outdoors, beautiful people walking by, just a nice lunch in tribeca. Was it good? yes. Would i go to a $175 lunch if I had to pay for it? no.
This is a charming place in the heart of Tribeca and one of the highlights of the Greenwich Street restaurant strip. I took my Dad here the last time he was in the city and recommended it to family members. So far, no complaints. Both the wine and food menus are noteworthy. It's pretty basic Italian menu- pasta, seafood, pizza- but with major personality. It will have you coming back for many more visits. I have yet to try the pizza although I hear wonderful things.
One of my family's go-to Italian restaurants downtown. Gigino's on Greenwich has a great atmosphere, good food, it's comfortable and kid-friendly. The staff is always very nice. You can't really go wrong with any of the dishes, whether it's pizza, pasta, seafood, steak/chicken or one of the daily specials. The bar makes a pretty decent martini as well.
This is the restaurant I went most to, since I moved to NYC. To me, they have the best pizza in town! I also love the caprese. It s a very nice place with a great interior and a lovely atmosphere. Staff is very friendly. You can order really, really big pizzas to be delivered, fantastic! Prices are ok.
Restaurant was super cute. The mood was set just right. The pizza was good and filled me up with some to spare & share. My guy friend had the pasta and i think it was not enough for him. anyway, I would recommend it to anyone and would go back again.
Best Italian in the nabe. Consistently good food in a comfortable setting. I love the osso bucco, and my wife always gets the purple pasta. The fried calamari is aways perfect. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Fairly child-friendly as well, so a good choice for a family dinner. They also have the best delivery pizza in the area.
