Ugh sandwiches again? If you've been on the go for a while, then you'll often find yourself grabbing sandwiches as your basic staple fuel.

This place, however, makes the best.. SAMMICHES! Sandwiches are often boring. This.. is.. a sammich (not a boring sandwich) that is full of love that you will taste with the first bite into that delicious, mouth-watering, warm yellow meadow reminiscences of glory FOCACCIA BREAD.

The bread is actually the mvp of this sammich. It is slightly crispy and offers a very very subtle crunch to each delicious bite. It's perfectly seasoned with salt, herbs, and olive oil to make your sammich an amazing treat.

I had the prosciutto with provolone on focaccia bread with everything  except mustard on it. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Best focaccia bread I have ever had (and I've had plenty of crappy focaccia bread). YUM!

Gian's is an authentic slice of Italy in the relative hell of Stockton.  The prosciutto I bought here was excellent and a bargain.  The staff is incredibly friendly.

The foccacia must be good because they're always sold out by the time I get here.  Next time I'm in the area I'll be dropping by early.  They had a myriad of Italian beverages, cheeses, and homemade sauces available to choose from.  Quite a refreshing atmosphere given the surroundings.

    Great dive place.

Sandwiches are good.  I love the meat selection.  Decent prices.  People are nice.

I gave them a three because they always put too much mayo.  Tell them to go easy on it.  They are too generous even when "going easy" for my taste.

Ugly , nasty and dirty! This guy doesn't understand the part of washing his hands or putting on gloves before he touches the food. He even touches the money ( filthy ) with the same hands he makes the Sammie's without washing them! NO STAR here umm maybe the health dept needs to pay his filthy establishment a visit.

Honestly, I didn't think there was anything too special about this sandwich. If anything, the focaccia bread was wayyyyyyy too salty for my liking!

I ended up getting proscuitto on focaccia with everything on it and was slightly disappointed by my sandwich. It wasn't as "amazing" as everybody has made it out to seem on here. Basically just procuitto, focaccia, mustard, mayo, and veggies.

Will come here again to give it another try, but other than that: nothing special about this sandwich.

Discovered their shop in the San Joaquin Magazine. Read reviews from my fellow Yelpers and thought I'd give it a try.

The restaurant can be a tricky find. It's directly across the street from Flashback's. Drive into the parking lot and you'll see Gian's to the right.

My girls and I came here on a Thursday at 4 pm. I expected it to be slow  condsidering the time, but sure enough, there was a line. Considering that the guy who took our orders, prepared sandwiches and coffee, and did everything else, was by himself, we were in and out of that line pretty fast. I was expecting a big menu with discriptions of each sandwich, but they didn't have that.

So I left it up to the guy to make my sandwich, since ya know, he probably knows what's best. But you can customize your order how ever you like.

The prosciutto was as fresh as I've ever had it, and their focaccia bread is delicious! I'd like to try their ravioli next time. Also had their latte w/ chocolate sprinkles. As Rachel Ray would say, that was "Yum-O". Simple yet tasteful.

Best focaccia bread ever!! Love that it is slightly crispy on the edges, it's salted perfectly and just delightful. I had a pastrami & provolone sandwich with "everything" which is a simple yet delicious combo of mayo, mustard, pepperoncini, roasted red bell pepper, lettuce, & tomato. The deli meats & cheeses all looked amazing and of the highest quality. The prices are so incredibly reasonable its almost stupid - $4-5 fresh-made deli sandwiches are nearly unheard of.

We also bought their raviolis and sauce (frozen) and made that for dinner another night... They were delicious!! The filling-to-pasta ratio was perfect and there was no shortage of filling either!! They were like overstuffed pillows of Italian deliciousness. The sauce was also very good, but I think it was the raviolis themselves that shined the best.

Oh man, this was the first time I tried focaccia (yes, I am very deprived). It's sooo GOOOD. It's a little crunchy outside, soft and buttery inside, and seasoned with salt, olive oil, and herbs.

    Mmm best bread ever.

And I only had it by itself.

I'll update when I try some of their sandwiches.

I also ordered a cookies & cream gelato since it was 103F outside! So creamy and refreshing! :)

    Cash only though!!

As you step inside, the deli will be to your left and an Italian market to your right.  The Italian market consists on a modest sized shelf full of Italian goods.

Why 5 stars you ask? It's the focaccia bread!!  It really makes the sandwich in my opinion.  It's slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.  Very similar to pizza dough but much much better.

Depending on the meat, the price will range from $4 to $5.  I tried the prosciutto and peppered turkey and both were really good.  "Everything" includes mustard, fresh sliced tomatoes, lettuce, fire roasted peppers and nippy wax peppers.  My bf raved on and on about how good the nippy wax peppers were so he even bought a whole jar of them. Haha.

Seriouslyyyy one of the best sandwiches of my life!

There are 2 things i really don't understand about this place:
    1. How have I been going to school a block away and only now decided to stumble in??
    2. How can meat be so delicious??

I really never had the desire to come here, because deli meat is just deli meat to me. Oh how wrong was I! Their prosciutto is really good and moist. It went perfectly with the red peppers. I came on a second occasion and got the roast beef. Not quite as tasty, but still noteworthy. I had some of my friend's sandwich on focaccia bread and it was amazing. I will definite get focaccia next time.

The interior is very simple, with cute red and white checkered table cloths. It's a nice place for lunch and perfect for catching up with friends. The man working there was nice too, pretty much making all of the decisions of what should go in my sandwich (I guess there's some sort of art to sandwich making I don't quite understand yet..).

    I shall definitely return!

I came here at the suggestion of one of my friends who grew up in Stockton. It was pretty much amazing! The guys behind the counter were super friendly and did their best to accomodate my non-bread-eating ways. Even without their supposed amazing foccacia, it was great. Their potato salad is pretty freaking wonderful as well.

If you live in Stockton or someone makes you stop by Stockton, you should seriously check this place out!

What can I say?? Delicious!! Amazing sandwiches and coffee!!

Got the prosciutto (btw, it's freshly sliced!) on focaccia with roasted bell peppers and some other kind of pepper. So salty (but not overly salty) and good!! Also got a cappuccino and it was great. And cheap!

The guys behind the counter were real nice too.

Only drawback: they only take cash. So, just take cash with you!!

My husband and I stopped in for a sandwich this morning. Nice little place. I had a roast beef sandwich and my husband had the peppered turkey. The sandwiches were simple but good. We also got some potato salad which was the best I have had anywhere in town. It tasted much like my mom's so it must be home made. No pickled preservative taste.

As an afterthought my husband got a cup of coffee. He said it is the best in town. He wanted to go back after shopping to get another cup but by the time we were done we thought it might be too late. I have no ideas what the hours are. Anyone?

We will definitely go back for sandwiches and potato salad and coffee. Good prices and very friendly.

You know, they really have improved since I tried them last. But still, I don't think their sandiwches are that great. They're pretty plain actually, and not really memorable.

I like that they have real Italian ingredients that you can buy, but other than that I don't really see a point coming here. Their espressos are ok, but I'd rather go to either starbucks or empresso.

Also, one awkward story: I walked in one day, and I was being stared at by a bunch of older white people. I felt like a criminal :(

Perfect lunch spot. This place serves basic deli sandwiches and cuts the meat fresh right in front of you. Sure the fanciest you can make a sandwich here is by having them put sandwich spread, lettuce, tomato, and peppers on it, but who cares? Sometimes simple is good, and this place is damn delicious.

I've still yet to try the Ravioli's (always sold out when i go), but I hear they are some of the best in Stockton. I've had a slice of their pizza and that is even good for being a simple thin crust sauce/cheese recipe.

Bring cash as they don't have credit/ATM and enjoy a simple yet good deli sandwich.

Gian B.  passed away in February of 2008.  I attended his funeral.  The sons and manager now run the Deli.  The food remains very good.  Gian bought the Deli business from his Aunt back in the 1970's.  I have been getting sandwiches from that old deli since the late 1950's when it was  called Angelini and Ferrari's on San Joaquin Street.  Gian moved the business to the current location sometime in the 1990's.

At his old San Joaquin Street location I would get a sandwich from Gian three or four times a week for years.  My office was less than one block away.

I still have sandwiches and his ravioli and potato salad.  Not as often as the old days, but I have been retired now for 9 years and it takes more of an effort to get to Gian's.

The food probably rates a four star rating, but then when I thought about it I have been eating at Gian's or his predecessor's for over 50 years.  That in itself has to rate 5 stars.

The sandwiches are good and plain, no fancy smancy stuff, but I love it like that.  The rolls and foccacia are wonderful.

They only accept cash!  (and checks, but who carries checks??)

Now whenever me or my boyfriend go, they rememebr our order and nothing is better than that!!

I love this little deli, I hope they never close!

GIANs is the bomb diggy! Perfect sammies for just a few bucks. I'm not even a sandwich person but I make it a point to always come here when I'm home. There's just something about the quality of meat, bread (from Genova bakery), and peppers that elevates his simple sandwiches from the subways of the world.

Gian also catered a big high school luncheon I had, and the huge trays of pasta were ready on time and were unbelievably delicious for such huge batches of food. GREAT prices, Gian the homeboy is an awesome person, so go here!

I have driven past this place so many times that when someone would ask me about this place, I knew exactly where it was located but had nothing else to say about it. I put that useless conversation to an end and paid them a visit around Super Bowl weekend.

The owner was very helpful when my sister and I walked in. We purchased some tiramisu, half order of their homemade ravioli, and sauce. The owner actually suggested the order size according to the number of guests we were expecting, which was more than enough. He saved me some money with his recommendation. That's something you don't see these days.

He also gave me precise instructions as to how to prepare the ravioli and sauce at home. You've never had raviolis until you've had them homemade. The sauce had the right amount of flavor to where it complimented the pasta very well and didn't over power the ravioli. The tiramisu was fantastic. They had individual orders already pre-packaged in their refrigerator and ready to eat. We ate ours in the car and it was a pretty good ride home.

I would definitely come back to this place and try their others goods, such as sandwiches and more homemade pasta. And plus, this place has been part of Stockton for so long, every Stocktonian should give it a try.

Except on Sundays, because their closed. :D

Little Italian Deli right off of Miracle Mile.  Good simple sandwiches.  I come because of the Focaccia bread, firm & oily...mmm.  They sell Italian delicacies and packaged goods too.  Even their bottled waters are from Italy.  Sandwiches and pasta salads, and pizza bread.  GIAN ONLY ACCEPTS CASH.
It's not like "MMMM oh delicious" kinda good.  More like "Lala lala la, yummy" type of good...I hope that made sense to you.

My co-workers and I get sandwiches from here approximately once a week. The focaccia bread is thin and a little crunchy and baked in the back. The selection of meats and cheeses is pretty good and what you expect in an Italian deli.

Gian's also sells pasta, pizza and traditional Italian groceries and beverages, but we go for the sandwiches.

Tip: If you are in a rush, try to avoid going right at noon as there can be a line. *Gian's is CASH only.*

This is authentic as it gets around here for us Italians.
I've been coming to this hidden gem for as long as I can remember. You must check it out if you are in the area. Everything is homemade from scratch!
Most famous for their Italian style sandwiches (don't ask for anything but meat cheese and peppers!) and homemade raviolis.
They also have a small market that sells cheeses, pastas, and other imported goods.

Gian's is the best!  Their sandwiches, in addition to being inexpensive, are really tasty!  Try the foccacia bread.  Meats worth trying are coppa, prosciutto, salami, and their roast beef.

They also have the best ravioli I've ever had.  You can buy a one-gallon bag of it for 22 bucks.  The pesto and the red sauce are good, too.

I went to Gian's after reading about it on yelp!

Wow, what a sandwich. I ordered peppered turkey w/ pepper jack cheese on focassia bread for $4.25. What a yummy sandwich.

The sandwich which was prepared in minutes was appealing to my eyes and my palate. I will definitely eat here again.

I was there a total of about 15 minutes (ordering and eating) and noticed that (3) large bags of raviolis, (1) large container of pesto, and (3) large containers of sauce were purchased by customers.. ... @ 10:30 in the morning!

Next time I will try their ravioli and sauces.

    Bring cash or your checkbook.

Gian's used to be an almost daily favorite for me when I lived and worked in Stockton.  Their sandwiches were simple and fantastic, as was their pan pizza and pasta salads.  My favorite sandwich there was pepper turkey and provolone on focaccia with wax peppers and mustard.  Simply outstanding.  While they could get busy and have a line around lunch time, it was just enough of a hole-in-the-wall that you'd get known by name or order after a while.

Now note that there's not a whole lot of options/toppings to choose from for the sandwiches here.  Most folks just get them with meat and cheese, but they typically have lettuce and tomatoes also available if you gotta have the veggies.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. My boyfriend and I dropped in thanks to help while we were visiting Stockton to turn in a college application. Let's just say we were very impressed. Sort of a small place pushed off the street, but everything we had was divine. I had a prosciutto sandwich on focaccia bread (Which was amazing) my boyfriend had pastrami on Focaccia, we shared potato salad and an italian soda. The guys behind the counter were so friendly. We enjoyed everything. And to top it off they were playing good old country music. Couldn't have left there happier!

I haven't been here since they moved from downtown Stockton in the little hole in the wall on San Joaquin and Main. In order to be fair, I should probably give Gian another chance but, I just can't forget the money handling/no hand washing cross contamination that I witnessed first hand. I know that many things go on in restaurants that we cannot see and don't know about but, when you see blatant disregard for cleanliness, well, it's hard to forget.

My favorite Italian delicatessen in town, the bread is fresh, and the meats are cut right in front of you. Gian (he will be missed) was always so sweet, and his now successors life on his tradition of good Italian sandwiches. You have to make sure to come early before they run out of there focaccia. When ordering make sure to get a baci (the Italian chocolate hazelnut candies) to split with your date, so you can read the love notes inside to create a special lunch.

Second would be prosciutto & pepperoncinis on focaccia! One of the only places in Stockton where you can get authentic Italian foods. Oh and they have frozen homemade raviolis you can order in bulk if you want to cook for dinner or have a party. & since it is a family generation owned business the customer service is great & their are many regulars...there is a family feel to it. all their salads are good, their portions are generous, and it just feels so authentic old stockton to go in there!

I love their food and have never been disappointed when eating there!
