I got a call the other day from G&R asking to update my contact info for their e-mail newsletter, but *tear* I don't live in Boston anymore and it made me so sad, that I just had to write them a tribute review.

First off, for an upscale salon, they are not overpriced, and they have different tiers of pricing based on who you choose to do your 'do.  From what I remember the their were three types of stylists, ranging from low-high, the highest being Giacomo or Rondi themselves.

I always went with Dario, but he is long gone, having moved back to NYC.  Other friends who went there raved about their stylists as much as I did about Dario, so I would assume the level of quality is across the board.

I love Aveda products and the way they smell, not too salon-y or chemical-y, so that was also a plus.  I also love the way they take so much time with you, really paying attention to detail, which is what you should expect from a salon, versus going to Supercuts.  That attention to detail crosses over into everything at G&R, the receptionists are polite and give you a curtesy reminder call the day before, the hair washers are thorough and create a relaxing experience by taking your coat for you first and giving you a good scalp massage.  Everything is as it should be in the ideal salon world at G&R.  It's no wonder that I miss them so much!

I've had my hair cut here for over a year now and I have no complaints.  Granted I haven't done anything radical, but I've never walked out unhappy.  Tien always gives me a nice cut and does a thorough job with the blow out, not to mention the delicious Aveda products she uses, all for just $35.  That's a real bargain.  The salon itself is super sleek and I always feel swanky when I'm in there.  I'm tempted to go back to having my hair highlighted, and I'd definitely give this salon a try for that.  Plus, the have a huge free candy bar, especially around the holidays.  That's a bonus in my book.

I get my hair cut by Laurie, who is a whiz with men's hair and is very reliable.

I was new to Boston and looking for a place with a good waxer and reasonable prices.  G & R was the first place I tried and for a couple appointments, I was happy enough with them.  The service was certainly adequate and the price was right.

On my last visit, though (and I'm not going to go into too much detail here) the technician actually ripped open my skin when she removed one of the cloth strips.  I was horrified (of course!).  The technician kept telling me that she didn't know how this had happened, but that this same thing had happened to her once before during a wax.  She assured me that I didn't need to see a doctor or get stitches and that it would heal in a few days, and I believed her.  I left with her apology and without a bill.

Two months later, I was almost fully healed, but not quite.

Getting your hair cut here might be one thing, but leave the waxing out.  Pay a little more money to get a quality (and safely administered) wax that will leave your body intact.

I wish I lived closer to this place, but alas, I do not.  Letizia cut my hair here for about 5 or 6 years.  I always loved how she made me look.  She always was extremely nice during my cuts.  If you can get an appointment with her you will not be disappointed.  Wendi cut my hair once or twice and I recommend her well.  5 stars all around!

Waxing...the first couple times I went in for a wax my legs looked fabulous.  I went there for about a year for waxing, but since my hair is so thin and took so long to grow for the next waxing, I just reverted back to shaving.  I would give the waxing 3.5 stars.

I've gotten my nails done a few times here.  I don't usually get manicures so when I do go for it I keep it basic.  Lisa is super friendly and funny.  5 stars again.

I miss you guys!!!

I've been here 3 times to get a cut with Teresa.  I was recommended to her by a friend of a friend, who has the most adorable pixie haircut (I was looking for someone who was good at short cuts with lots of layers).

My first cut with Teresa was probably the best haircut I've ever had.  Got lots of compliments.

The second and third however, went downhill.  What is it with stylists' inability to recreate their past works of art?  Finally, I stopped going because it didn't seem like she was getting it.

I'd be curious to see what other people's experiences were though...

I love Giacomo and his wife Ronda...they are adorable....and so was Baci the dog ...may she rest in peace.

Ronda does the best bikini wax and eyebrow shaping this side of town......the manis and pedis are killer here too.

Blow-outs are OK.....and I have heard mixed reviews about the different hair stylists here....but all in all it is convenient and cool and I love the mom and pop vibe!

This place is great if you aren't sure of what you want and are willing to let the stylist go to town with a couple vague suggestions. I've gotten great haircuts here, but it's hard to get it reproduced the second time (like Kristin M. mentioned).

I also went to Teresa and thought she did a good job, but she was really distracted and didn't seem to pay enough attention to my hair. The cut turns out great, but I felt like the process was really lacking. One really good thing about the cuts with Teresa are they seem to grow out really well, so if you don't want to go back right away, you can put it off for a while until you need to!

I've been very pleased with the service, the wait times and the products. Prices range from 'affordable' to 'why would you pay that much for a haircut?'. They use Aveda products, which are not tested on animals.

I've gotten haircuts and waxes here, and both have been some of the best I've ever had. They really do a careful job with waxes.

I've been a little frustrated with the lack of walk-ins available.

I have always wanted to try an Aveda salon, as that is the only hair products I use. The receptionist was so polite on the phone when I called to set up an appoinment. My stylist, Stephanie, was so cute, and did a perfect job on my hair. The owner came over during the consultation and added some great advice. I have been trying to get someone to scissor cut the sides of my hair for years, instead of the ususal clippers. Stephanie really took the time to listen, to actual cut my hair completely with scissors.

This is by far the BEST haircut I have had in years! And for a the first time in a LONG time, I have a hair stylist. Someone who I will be loyal to, and go to for every cut.

The salon is cute, simple, clean, well stocked. The staff is friendly, and how can you resist a salon with a salon dog. Love Bella!!!

I got my haircut here for a LONG TIME (BU student, very convenient) and the first time Chanel cut my hair, she took off almost a foot and gave me an awesome color.  I thought I had found my hair stylist.
I proceed to go to Chanel for three years.  Every time I came, I had to explain to her what I wanted.  She gave me the haircut I was maintaining but each time it was like I was a total stranger and the cut came out differently... getting worse and worse until I literally had to wear my bangs in bobby pins for two months while they grew out.  Maybe I should have been more vocal but I thought after three years, I wouldn't have to babysit the stylist on how to follow their own lines.
And all the stylists shit talk each other in front of the customers.  Now I work in service and I don't love all my coworkers but I would NEVER let a customer in on my peer bashing.  It was embarrassing for me.

I used to go to Wendi all the time and got some really great cuts but also some rather mediocre ones.  The salon has an upscale feel, sleek black and white decor, but is well-priced.  When I started going here, I believe a cut/dry with Wendi was $35 however her price went up.  I haven't been here since she raised her prices, but for no reason other than bitterness over price increase & general desire to try other places.  I always liked the salon.  It's also an easy location, less than a blocks walk to/from the t.

I have been going to G&R since I moved to Boston in 2004. I have always had a great experience throughout the map for men's hair cut. I have had my hair cut by Giacomo, Theresa and a Junior Stylist. All three hair cuts were very good each with their own style. I would highly recommend their service which I believe is very comparable to the salons I have been to in New York (Oribe, Red Door, Fekkai) without the outrageous price.

They are indeed very nice people...but I won't go there again.  If you have pretty, thick hair with a lot a volume and you would prefer boring, flat-ironed locks, then this the place for you.  There is more than one hairstyle people!!!

Ronda gives a wonderful eyebrow waxing - she uses wax, tweezers and scissors to expertly sculpt my eyebrows. I've been going to her for 4 years and am very happy.
