Their world famous hot fudge sundaes are SUPER YUMMY! I would give this place a 5 only if they gave us two vanilla scoops instead of one. 8 bucks and we gobbled down our sundae in 4 bites. At Giants games, you get three scoops for the same price :-(

Still loved our sundae and Customer Service is excellent. Plus, you get free chocolate squares when you enter. Yay!

there's definitely something about this soda fountain like shop that's comforting to me. whenever we're in monterey, a vist to ghirardelli's is always paid in full to my happy tummy!

basics such as the coke float or a scoop of traditional chocolate on a cone are my favorite to enjoy while sitting out at the back area pier. they offer typical creamery flavors and their sundays are delicious too! but often times too huge for me to finish before it's melted.

prices are catered to tourists since it is cannery row after all. they do offer several complimentary chocolate squares so i suppose it sort of evens out, but what else would you expect for such a hot spot. we've learned to accept it though, i mean cmon what's a visit to monterey without a treat?

on our last visit intended for the aquarium, we somehow missed the planned destination and sidetracked off to ghirardelli's. funny how we've never been to the san francisco location which is only 45 minutes away, but ended up driving a little over an hour just to grab a couple coke floats and walk along the pier! it was perfect though, none the less.

Oh, no I don't want any.  The contents stuck to the bottom of my shoe would probably taste more pleasing.

Anyone  (with an iota of discerning taste) knows that Belgian chocolate is where it's at.

For me this is the only attraction in cannery row worth stopping at.  The patio has a great view of the ocean where you can enjoy your ice cream.  The sundaes are generous and tasty.  Even DH (who doesn't have a sweet tooth) thoroughly enjoyed the sundae we shared.

What's the difference between this Ghirardelli and the San Francisco location? This one sells a sea otter stuffed animal holding a bag of assorted chocolate squares. And this location seems to be smaller. What's similar is that customers get a free square of chocolate. What I received this time was a peanut butter-chocolate one which is very good.

I ordered a rootbeer float. The guy making it must have been confused; by the time he found my table and delivered the said float, the ice cream had melted a great deal. Mmmkay. Still tasted good.

They had better not discontinue the peanut butter chocolate squares. They're really good.

OMG it is so good here. Ended ordering a vanilla hot fudge sundae - yummmm. It's kind of pricey though. $7 something for a sundae.

I used to stand in line in for ages at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop in SF. Hobnobbing with the tourists has its entertainment value, but who has the time these days? This location is great in that the line is not long at all.
You do miss out on all the machinery like at the SF location, but their banana split made it worthwhile. Their dishes are big enough to share which offsets their higher-than-average prices.
They even give out samples of their squares. Fantastic.

Free chocolate squares as soon as you walk through the door = good

Delicious Sundaes made using this chocolate = great

Enjoying said chocolate and ice cream sundaes while watching the ocean on a warm sunny day = priceless.

Well worth the stop.

Do not get the icecream here if you love the one in SF.

Severely dissapointed here because the ice cream was mostly melted, hot fudge was cold! (how could you) and the taste wasn't the same or as good as the one in SF. However, if you get the chocolate here i'm sure its fine. They passed out some choco/peanut butter samples which were delicious.

It was so cold and windy outside, so we naturally thought to visit the Ghirardelli shop.

We got a parking spot right in front of the store, and as we entered they gave us samples of the peppermint bark/chocolate hybrid candy square and it was so good. Then, we each drank hot chocolate and chilled out for a little while.

Ah.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have all the self control of a dead dog.

This place taunts me with their delicious chocolate, then they up the ante by providing a 10% off your next purchase coupon on the receipt - those bastards.

The closest I come to self control here is to buy regular dark chocolate alongside my particular nemesis of dark chocolate with caramel - the with caramel gets consumed first (at around a 3 to 1 rate), then the rest of the regular dark chocolate gets consumed at a slightly slower rate.

Sadly, I get particularly proud if the receipt I'm using to get the 10% off is older than 2 weeks.

Had the espresso escape (thats what I normally get from both this location and the SF location), while my friend had the warm brownie sundae (uploaded pics of both).

Both were really good. Will definitely stop here on my next visit to Monterey.

I will confess something-I am a bit odd. In all of my years, I have never eaten a pop-tart and until this weekend, had never eaten a banana split. I have been to Ghirardelli in the City , and went to this one about 11 years ago and knew that if I was going to break my "no refined sugar/ice cream fast"(it was almost 3 months), it would have to be for something super delicious and good. My guy had been telling me about the banana splits here. Who would have thought that pineapple topping would be delicious? They have some of the best strawberry ice cream I have ever had as well, and am glad I tried it. I am now back on the wagon...but what a fun slip!

Every time I go down to Monterey, stopping here is a must. The huge cookies are delicious and the sundaes are just as good. Also, like said in another review, there's free chocolate squares right when you walk in. They also include "new" types of chocolate in the free squares category (mmm...peanut butter filled chocolate from Ghirardelli). Another plus would be sitting on the balcony that sits over the beach near where that guy who plays his white keyboard for hours hangs out.

The chocolate isn't especially good, but it is nice to be able to go and sit out on the back porch and over look the waves coming in.  That alone makes it worthwhile.  I recommend coffee or maybe some hot chocolate.  You don't want to be part of that couple where they both order a big chocolately sundae!

Great place when your down in Cannery Row.  Maybe not as rich as the SF location, but pretty close.  Wish the place was a little bigger since there's nowhere to sit when it gets busy.  Best thing is the balcony where you can enjoy your food looking over the waves.

This Ghirardelli's gets an extra star for the fantastic view of Monterey Bay.  Overally, I think this shop beats their flagship store in San Francisco hands-down, both for the view, the friendlier staff, cleaner store and the less frantic environment.

This place rocks. It's pricier but come on its Ghirardelli!!! The lines are not as long as SF and we got a free peanut butter/choco sampler. It's got a great view right on the Bay.  A great place to go for a sundae. We are fans!

love their hot cocoa in the winter time. as a local, i wouldn't venture down to cannery row too often, but there are times when you need things from down there or others visiting would want to head in that direction... you could bribe me with hot cocoa from ghiradelli.

I love chocolate - but I've reached a point in my life where it's just not worth it unless it's really good. The sample at the door was pretty OK - a sweet milk chocolate caramel, not my thing - but the ice cream was just average, and the cone looked good but had no flavor - not even the chocolate it was dipped in. Sigh. Beautiful views, but kind of a waste of calories. A friend had a malt that was gross - yeasty and weird. I won't need to go here again. . .not that I wil entirely eschew Ghirardelli chocolate entirely - I am a fan of extra super dark varieties. . .. but the shop, which promised "a timeless experience" on the sign, did not live up to my hopes.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon, to sit and wait for a friend that was getting his scuba certification. It was a perfect day at Monterey! and this was one of the best places to sit and enjoy the scenery! I came here before and had ice-cream(don't remember what I had or what it was but probably pretty good), but this time around I had a white chocolate mocha which was nicely done. Not too sweet. I sat outside and it was just beautiful! Saw some seals lying on the rocks and some of the scubas when they came back up. Just a great location!

We had the earthquake.  a bit too much whipped cream and the ice cream melted REALLY fast and turned into an amoeba-y mush and the flavors became indistinguishable....
but still an experience.

just like the ghirardelli in the city, except it actually makes sense here! because, you know, it actually gets warm out in monterey. they have a couple outdoor areas to enjoy your chocolate delights if you feel so inclined. which makes up for the smaller size of the place, compared to the one in the city. and umm, the quality, consistent.
