I will chase this damn van to the ends of the earth.  I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said, so instead of reiterating the obvious, I will amaze you with the crazy song I wrote with my husband on the drive home from Get Shaved.

Please sing to the tune of Need You Tonight by INXS.

All you need is $3.50
Other shave ice is yesterday
You can squeal if you want
Everybody loves that sour spray

So slide over here
And make me the largest
Your syrups are so raw
I've got to let you know
I've got to let you know
You're blowing my mind

I need you tonight
'Cause I'm so hungry
There's something about this ice
That makes me sweat

How do you feel?
I'm HUNGRY!
What do you think?
I need MONKEY BRAINS!
Whatcha gonna do?
Gonna eat my ice!

I went to the Sherman Oaks Farmers Market to try the shaved ice. It was amazing!!! The combination of the 3 types of syrup and milk was great.

Get Shaved had about 20 flavors of syrups. There is a choice of adding milk and ice cream. You can get small, medium, or large size and I believe you can get any size for under $4. Good deal! I will need to go there again to try it with ice cream.

The only downside I saw was that the employees there did not seem very happy with working there.

When you hear people say they haven't had Shaved Ice this good since Hawaii, they are damned right because that's what I thought too!!

I read an article about how the truck spent the extra money in buying the premium ice maker. And this is indeed one ballin' ice shaver because it makes the fluffiest shaved ice I've ever tasted. And not even just fluffy shaved ice, but delicious syrups that is served up in the right amounts with *creamy* vanilla ice cream to boot.

I mean really, I love shaved ice, snow cones, etc and if you are like me you must have experienced a lot of mediocre ones at street fairs, street carts, fundraisers, etc. Well once you have a taste of Get Shaved, it's like tasting shaved ice heaven. The dude in the truck packs it with love and care; those fluffy icy packs of heaven that come in quantities of small medium and large.

I'm also a fan of that condensed milk, or what they call sweet cream. I mean I used to make my friends laugh by saying if I ever got to visit Finland where supposedly it is one of the best places for quality of water and ice, that I would just pour condensed milk on the snow and go to town. (They laughed, but I wasn't joking.)
Now not only is there heavenly fluffy shaved ice with quality well rationed syrup and creamy vanilla ice cream, I get the miracle topping that is condensed mlik / sweet cream.

Good lord, and to top it all off they follow the Kogi Truck for a double-tag-team effort of foodie heaven win. Now excuse me while I double check my twitter feeds to see when they are serving up their goodness  next.

First time trying 'Get Shaved' last night for the Post-Pacman Fight Celebration. This one seems to tag-team with the Kogi truck on Nogales St. near the Bank of America and Chinese Restaurant/Golf driving range. It was freakin' cold last night, so why the heck would I order shaved ice? Because it's good!!! Nothing like a nice COLD shaved ice treat on a nice COLD night, eh? LOL! It was great, many flavors to choose from, and can't believe how much shaved ice they back in to your order. I should have got the small because the large was a challenge to finish, haha. The flavors I picked: Mango, Passion Fruit, Lychee. They do have pre-set specialties, for example: Monkey Brains. Overall great experience, fast and friendly staff. If you get a chance to try them, go for it.

At first I thought... shave ice from a truck?  No way!

But auwe!  This is the best shave ice on the mainland!  Definitely right up there with Waiola (my favorite)!

The nice thing is that they have small, medium, and large so just in case you had too many pupus already, you can still enjoy shave ice... just let it melt and seep into the cracks between all the ono kaukau in your belly!

They have the cream flavor which is killer with any of the other flavors they have... plus ice cream at the bottom makes it a winner!  I usually get the lilikoi, but decided to try the lychee and I'm so glad I did.  It was delicious!!!

The other bonus is that they usually follow the Kogi BBQ truck around, so it's double the goodness!

The service is great and they're always really friendly.  They have a process that works!  Next time I have to try mixing the flavors :)

OHHHH how i yearn for Get Shaved at least 5 times a week. Ever since i first tried them when they came to my neighborhood with Kogi i've been an addict. Now, i have neverrrrr been into shaved ice, or snow cones or anything like that. Not my style. It was the same story everytime...the ice on top would be basically just plain, crunchy ice while all of the flavoring fell down to the bottom.

Thank the lord that this is not the case with Get Shaved. They have it dowwwwwn to a science. The ice is super fluffy and light so it soaks up all of the delicious flavoring that they have to offer...and they have tons of different flavors to offer. From your typical strawberry & blue raspberry to passionfruit and guava. So, so good. And as if that isn't enough, they have sour spray and sweet cream (condensed milk),  but i definitely opt for the sour spray. 2 of the guys who work the vehicle know me and know just how i like it, so they literally unscrew the spray top of the sour spray bottle, and literally POUR sour spray all over my ice. Hahaha. I'm sick. But it is absolutely delicious. And everyone who works here is really nice and very generous.

Guava/Mango/Passionfruit+shit loads of sour spray = the end to an amazing night, every night. I suggest you get on it immediately.

Real Shave Ice that you don't have to fly 2,500 miles to get. That's why when I read about this little van of sweet goodness, I jumped right in my car and drove 25 miles to the Eagle Rock Farmer's Market. Sure enough there it was waiting for me, a blue and white oasis on wheels against a hot concrete parking lot. With all those Hawaiian flavors like Lilikoi Passion Fruit and Lychee. There are over 20 to pick from.

My wife and I have become obsessed about shave ice ever since we first had it on the North Shore of Oahu. And We've been to Maui and Kauai many times. Even in the Hawaiian islands there are places that don't make it right. It is not a snow cone, where the ice is in small crunchy pieces. Shave Ice should be so fine that it is like actual snow. Most places use a large block of ice and a machine that shaves it down with a razor blade. I couldn't see the inner workings of Get Shaved's Machines, but since it was like fluffy snow, I'll assume it was made from a large block. The snow is molded by hand and packed down a little bit so it holds all the flavor real well, this way it doesn't go straight through the ice.

Get Shaved has a good design with using a lid top to stop making too much of a mess. You can eat everything through the opening, then when you get level with the cup, remove it and go to work on the rest. It's a well thought out design, which eliminates the problem of those drips that always stain your clothes and shoes. Of course run off is bound to happen, but most of it occurs in the cup and You can get some vanilla ice cream on the bottom to help with that.

So where do you go to get the perfect shaved ice? That's the fun part. they are everywhere, tweeting as they go from this location and that. If you want to plan ahead though, they put their weekly schedule up on their website. Sometimes they hit up to 3 locations a day. But why wait for them to come near you, go plan a day around where they are. Sure you may spend some gas money to do it, but it's a lot cheaper than airfare to Hawaii.

On a unique evening that left me trying the Dosa Truck, Let's Be Frank Trailer and the Cool Haus ice cream truck (they were all together @ the Barnsdall Art Park), I left LA pretty disappointed with a stomach full of bland dosas, a mediocre hot dog and an ice cream (which got fairly messy) served with an edible wrapper, I just got tired of eating it...eh, miserable...

I saw on twitter (http://www.twitter.com...), Get Shaved was at The Brig and thought, "This could be really good, or real bad..."  You'd think, you can't screw up shave ice, but trust me, I've gone to "Hawaiian" places in Cali and have been served a damn snow cone...If I wanted a raspado, I would have stayed in the hood and waited for the local raspadero to honk his horn.  Instead, I head to Venice...

I walked up and saw a line of people waiting to order from the Kogi line.  As I panned to the right, I noticed that there was only 1 person in line for Get Shaved.  I got in line, and soon things changed =D

Looking at the menu, I was glad to see the wide variety of syrups and sprays that they have available.  Everything is of course made to order, so you can pick and choose what you want.  I wanted one with ice cream so I opted for the "monkey brains".   The wait was about 5 minutes or so for as the ice had to be processed (shaved and then kinda sculpted I guess), flavors added, etc.  The texture and flavors reminded me of the shave ice in Hawaii.  Awesome stuff...oooh, sweet nostalgia...All that was missing was the stray roosters and red dirt stains on my car!

After a night of disappointing trucks, thank you Get Shaved for giving me back my faith in this catering truck renaissance...

first of all, i was going to rate it as a 3 star, but felt mean so 4 star it is. it is really good! the ice was super fine, it was actually fluffy! i ordered the passionut! it was melon, coconut and passion fruit. i was good. i like the melon! i should've gotten the lychee though, i forgot... next time.. i just wish that they have other options, rather than which artificially flavored syrup do you want. they should really have fresh fruit flavors. also, i don't know if they just ran out, but i asked for ice cream with mine.. and when i got to the bottom part, it was just whipped cream. i don't know why they say it's ice cream when it's not. i guess, ice from the shaved ice + whipped cream = ice cream?? i don't know... so, if you're craving for something sweet, go to their website for their schedule!

The Kogi truck and Get Shaved truck were hangin out together one afternoon near my house so I figured I'd give both of them a shot. I'm really not a fan of shaved ice, actually. I mean come on, it's just ice and syrup, right? How awesome can it be?

Well. I guess I've been eating crappy shaved ice my whole life because Get Shaved has converted me. They have so many flavors (I really wanted to try lychee, guava and watermelon) and you can choose up to 3 flavors per order. They also have "combinations", which come with ice cream and a set combo of flavors.  Anyway, I got the "Passion Nut" combination, with passion fruit, coconut, melona (whatever the heck that is), vanilla ice cream, and the addition of "sweet cream" (a.k.a. condensed milk).

Wow, I do not remember the last time I ate something so refreshing! It was just what I needed to cleanse my palate after gobbling down all the grease and salt from Kogi. Perfect proportions of ice and ice cream, perfect light sweetness... I tell ya, that truck holds the secrets of summer.

I happened to see the truck as I drove by the Sherman Oaks Farmer's Market and was excited to see shaved ice in November and decided I must try it.  BEST DECISION EVER!
Their shaved ice was phenomenal.  So fine.  So pure.  So covered in delicious syrups and a big hunk of ice cream at the bottom.  It just doesn't get any better!  By the way,the Rockin' Rainbow was really rockin!!  mmmm

I have already spread the word to friends and am looking forward to another visit to the truck this weekend.  I see myself stalking this truck on a frequent basis and you should too!

Just picked some up last night, and it looks like I wont be eating desserts ever again because I will only save myself for Get Shaved and frozen yogurt ... The ice just melts in your mouth and it is the perfect temperature, aside from that the flavors are also amazing delicious (try a combo of blue raspberry, boysenberry, and lychee)...

PS. get the ice cream center

I dream of shave ice.  I've tried many outside of Hawaii and nothing has every quite satisfied me as what I can find on the Islands...until Get Shaved.  It is delightful and I now crave it.  Obsession?  Yes.

My favorite thing is that they leave the li hing mui shaker on the counter so you can dose yourself.  MMMMMMMMmmmmmm.  I actually didn't love their red bean, but I still give them a five star rating.

The closest yet to the shave ice I can get back in Hawaii.  The last two Fridays (incl today) Get Shaved was at Gramercy Pl and Toyota Way in Torrance and it was more busy than I expected.  About 8-10 people were waiting for their shave ice when we got there and a few people showed up while we was grinding da shave ice (at around 8pm).

I went with the small Rockin' Rainbow flavor combination which was cherry, blue raspberry, and pineapple syrup over vanilla ice cream.  It's a twist on the strawberry, vanilla, and banana traditional "rainbow" shave ice combination.

Texturally, the shave ice was as good as Waiola's; fluffy with a very light crunchiness.  The syrup was extra sweet and covered up the fruit flavors I was expecting.  Really I could only taste the blue raspberry with a little cherry or pineapple in every third scoop or so.  Thus one star docked.  Perhaps some other syrups actually taste a little like they are supposed to.

Overall, I would totally recommend Get Shaved to anyone craving a little taste of Hawaii!

I wouldn't have tried this shaved ice if it were not for the Kogi truck. I imagined densely packed ice that crunched in your mouth, with heavy cough-syrup. THAT ISN'T SO! OMG it is heavenly.

It is just like the shaved ice I had at Wailoa in Hawaii-- something I swore not to be able to find on the mainland. I even tried that "Shave It" place in Thousand Oaks-- Total CRAP.

Kristin and Pat are the owners, and every time I come they remember my face. They talk to me as if I was a long-time friend or something all the while taking my order. I like to customize my own: lychee, cherry, pineapple, with ice cream, azuki beans, condensed milk-- the works! The stuff on the menu are also delicious-- my friends always go for the "Rainbow" or "Monkey Brains". The ice is fluffier than snow, and syrup taste true to its flavor. The small size acutally comes with a lot and the price starts at $3.00: add 50 cents each for bean and ice cream. The condensed milk and sour spray are free!

This place has never ever disappointed my cravings. The owners are just so friendly. I constantly follow them on Twitter to get my weekly fix. I am addicted!!

YAY! my favorite new summertime treat!

Found myself on Abbot Kinney. Actually, let me rephrase that.. Went to Abbot Kinney strictly to check out all the food trucks parked at the Brig this past Saturday afternoon. It was hot outside, so the idea of eating hot tacos vs. something cool was a no brainer.

$3 dollars here gets you a small shaved ice (which isn't at all small!) WITH your choice of up 3 flavors and condensed milk drizzed on top if you so wish. the menu can be overwhelming thanks to their choice of 20-something flavors. I opted for lychee + tigers blood (see previous review for description of what this actually is) + passionfruit. DELISH!

my kid sister opted for the kid-appealing blue raspberry with lychee. that definitely had more of an ICEE flavor to it. but c'mon! who doesn't like ICEE?! admit it! you do!

super friendly staff, very helpful in describing flavors and making suggestions and won't rush you at all.

Will definitely be following these guys around this summer!

Shave Ice.  Not shaved ice - that's how we butcher the grammar in Hawaii.   If I didn't like Get Shaved, i would have named this truck Kogi's B**** because they are wherever Kogi is.  But, I like them.

The girl taking my order was from the Big Island.  I didn't ask the guy shaping the ice where he's from but he told me what Tiger's Blood was (strawberry, watermelon, coconut) - that's one of the 22 or so flavors available.  Can't decide what flavors to get?  Try some of their combo flavors...like...Monkey's Brains!

Unlike the shave ice stores in Honolulu, they provide sweet cream (condensed milk) and sour spray (i suspect li hing powder - will confirm) for FREE.  Add ice cream for 50 cents.

A small gives you 3 flavors and is $3.  It's enough to kill the heat of summer but eat it fast or else you'll be drinking cold sugar water

It ain't no Shimazu Store or Waiola Shave Ice on wheels (Matsumoto is for the tourists), but it's as close to shave ice from Hawaii as you can get around here, I guess.

P.S.  no blue tongues!  yay!

As a Shaved Ice lover & connoisseur I have to give these people props and say that they are pretty close to perfection :)!  As I now have somewhere on the mainland to satisfy my craving for good shaved ice.  They are very comparable to Waiola or Shimazu's in Honolulu.  The way they shave their ice and the syrup is what it is all about.

What a fabulous stress-binge food.  I got the medium strawberry-banana over ice cream with sweetened condensed milk drizzled over it and it was so worth every penny.  While I believe a serving of the ice/flavoring on its own is 70 calories a pop, I made sure mine was flavor-, sugar- and calorie-laden and thank goodness, because that is the only thing that was going to erase the terrible workday that led up to my impromptu midday dessert happy-time.  I am used to Korean-style shave ice (red beans, Fruity Pebbles, ice cream, fruit, etc.) so this was my first time with Hawaiian shave ice, and it was a success!

Even though they pack the ice and it eventually starts to melt down as you're eating it, it never packs in together and hardens into one solid piece of ice (as sno cones are apt to do).  The ice texture is a balance between sno-cone and slushy.  And even though they give you a ton of flavoring (yessss!), it never got too syrupy in a thick, gross way.  Mmm.  Want one now...

I wasn't super crazy on my first half of my first shaved ice from Get Shaved. I thought...well, just a typical snow cone, nothing special. Until I ate half of it, that's when I realized the more I eat, the better it gets. I've had snow cone with condense milk before and I like it, but this is just so much better with vanilla ice cream in the middle. Can't wait for more!

I was wary of trying this shave ice truck lest it taste like a hard, crunchy "snow cone." Boy, was I wrong! The shave ice that Get Shaved makes tastes better than that of Aoki's and Matsumoto's on the North Shore on Oahu--and I told them so!

They make their own syrup AND have included "local" flavors such as guava, blue hawaii (vanilla+coconut), mango and passion fruit (aka "lilikoi") that are SUPER yummy. They also listen to their customers and have added li hing mui as a flavor and azuki beans as an add-on. Gotta love customer service!

As any shave ice connoisseur knows, it's all about the consistency of the ice, and theirs was light and fluffy (aka perfect).

If you don't know what to get, I'd suggest getting my usual: Blue Hawaii, Passionfruit and Mango with Ice Cream :)

Get Shaved is the real thing. Five stars for sure, because it can't get any better than it is, unless the truck was parked outside of my house at all times. Low-calorie, yummy flavors, and cheap ($3 for small, which is plenty for one person). Chris and I have tried pink lemonade, orange (in a creamsicle-like concoction with vanilla ice cream at the bottom), pineapple, coconut, and blue hawaii. I'm looking forward to trying the rootbeer over vanilla ice cream (rootbeer float). And Pat and Kristin are THE nicest, friendliest and perkiest couple we've met in a long time. If you live in the San Fernando Valley or on the West Side of LA, follow them on Twitter @getshaved to find out where the truck is going to be.

Five stars for being the only place in LA that knows how to make blue raspberry shaved ice properly! And orange plus vanilla ice cream puts the "dream" in dreamsicle. Plus, the price is reasonable--$3 gets you a small, and it will satisfy most people. I haven't tried the sour blast or sweetened milk yet, but my husband says they're both good. Bonus points for everyone being so friendly whenever I stop for my fix--this is how stalkers are born...

I was so excited to hear that a truck was going to be near me so I stopped by at Gramercy Pl and Toyota Way tonight. There was an impressive crowd for the wind and the fact it was a Sunday night. For $3.50 I couldn't complain about my shave ice (i just did a few flavors) but my boyfriend did the root beer dream and it was sickeningly sweet. He only finished half and threw it away - and he only finished half because I paid for it, and he didn't want to waste it. I'd go back if the opportunity struck, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the root beer dream

Real. Hawaiian. Shave. Ice.

We went today and met the owners of Get Shaved. They were great - very eager to talk about their product, quick to offer samples, and very skilled at shaving the ice just right. It was fun talking to Kristin and Pat about their various ice machines and getting the flavors just right.

For those who have been to Hawaii and had real shave ice, you know this isn't just some snow cone. The ice is pure as the driven snow, packed in a way that makes it retain the flavor of the syrup yet remain a little "fluffy." You've got to get it with the ice cream scoop at the bottom, and maybe the adzuki red beans on top.

I will be back.

AMAZING!

I just got back from Hawaii a few days before I tried get shaved who was with the Kogi truck, and it was like I was right back in Hawaii. I like that they're flavors are homemade, and it shows, as their shaved ice is the best on the mainland. Definitely worth the trip, and the line is never long either.

This is a MUST try for food truck tastings.

The strawberry tastes like strawberry...okay, not quite but this shave ice (@ Winnie!) is for real!  I flew back into LAX after a short research trip abroad and 24 hours after leaving Berlin I was craving something sweet and cool.  Twitter put them at Devonshire & Reseda from 10:30-12:30a so I *had* to stop by.  The Kogi lines were intimidating, both trucks there, sandwiching Get Shaved.  The truck is adorable, some mellow reggae pumping out of some Ipod speakers, the grind of ice blocks in the background.  I went with a small (seriously large portions!) Monkey Brains -- strawberry and banana with some swirls of sweet milk over some super soft and strong vanilla ice cream.  The strawberry is what strawberry flavor should taste like -- not quite "authentic" fruit but not quite "red" taste.   The banana is light and aromatic.  I didn't get to the ice cream until halfway through my dish -- gold digging at its best.

"Damn Damn Dayaaam! This is good." -- a direct quote from my brother in law.  I couldn't have said it better myself.  If they weren't riding on Kogi BBQ's coat tails, I would've never found this place and I'm glad they tagged along Saturday night.  After ordering from the taco truck, I decided to give this place a try. The whole time I was thinking that they couldn't possibly be as good as Hawaiian shaved ice ... I was wrong.  I ordered Monkey Brains and from the moment it hit my mouth my eyes rolled up ... and that's why they get 5 stars. Okay so no they do not have azuki beans but who cares!  It was so good that after I finished it, I wanted to go back and get another one.  The texture of the ice so light and fluffy, every piece of ice is full of flavor and their vanilla ice cream feels like it is somehow mixed in with the ice even though it sits at the bottom of the cup. Hubby had Melon Madness and it had a nice sour and then sweet taste.  I hope these guys are nearby when I visit Socal again in a couple of months.
