I just got back from having the most enjoyable dinner here. The place is cute and our server (Brianna, I think) was sweet and amazing. Attentive and informative.
The starters as well as our main courses and sides were delightful and perfectly prepared.
I know that the notion of "supporting locally grown food" has really taken off (particularly in Brooklyn it seems) and I really do like the idea. Who wouldn't want to support their community? However, I also want the best I can get in a dining experience. So I understand if, on occasion, food has to be brought in from somewhere else in order to provide just that.
And to be honest, I really don't think I would want to taste shrimp out of the Gowanus canal... No matter how it's prepared...
But, that's just me.
If it's local your looking for, the chef's own mom makes the tortilla's for crying out loud. The only way this could possibly get more "local" would be for her to come to the restaurant and cut your meat for you.
All in all, it was a really nice dinner experience. Next time, I'm trying their brunch.

This relative newcomer in Park Slope is a place of highs and lows, so much so that after dining there last week, we left befuddled and unable to clearly answer a basic question: had we enjoyed the meal?

The Pros:
Get Fresh is a welcoming, if spare, space on the southern end of Park Slope's 5th Avenue. The servers are friendly and attentive and the menu purports to offer local, organic, sustainable fare (see below, though). Plus, it's one of the few BYOB restaurants around, which really helps cut down on the dinner bill.

Some of the dishes we tried were really outstanding. Our starter, for instance, of Rabbit-Pork sausage served atop a bed of creamy truffled potato puree, was divine. We literally wiped the plate clean with our fingers. But, oddly, rather than being housemade (as one might expect from a place championing great local food), the sausage was from D'Artagnan (this was disappointing, somehow. Though, at least now I know where I can order the sausage for myself...). Another winner was a side dish we ordered, Mexican Beans and Rice. Usually a throwaway, this dish was full of flavor and texture.

Our dessert, a chocolate "cake" (really more like two incredibly tender brownies held together with a thick serving of ganache) was also a plate-licker. Weirdly, though, this wasn't made in the restaurant either, but at a local bakery.

The Cons
Some of the dishes were downright awful. I ordered the Hawaiian prawns with sweet potato puree expecting plump prawns set atop a bed of flavorful puree. Instead the pawns were coated with the puree, creating a mushy dish with a horrifying mouth-feel. It was barely edible when it could have been great. Plus, Hawaiian prawns at a place bragging about local food? Really?

My husband's entree (the smoked pork belly with tamales and mole) was fine - good, not great.

So, in sum, Get Fresh had some real highs and real lows and very little in between. Coupled with so much of their food being prepared off-site, we just felt that the whole experience was very unrestaurant-y and were uncertain if we'd return or not.

Nice ambiance, like a general store minus the kitsch. Maybe this is Cracker Barrel for us Southerners who left home and became all concerned with fancy stuff like local food and truffle oil. At least the bunch is: fresh top-notch bread from Scratchbread doused with butter with a poached egg on it that makes the whole mess a lot more inviting as the yolk infuses the bread with more deliciousness with every bite?

I wish the brunch had more meaty options, but that's almost made up by the fact that if you have a farm animal you want to cook up, they are willing to consider if for their Sunday roast! As someone who works with farmers, this is well...just awesome. Plus, the food here is relatively affordable AND filling. That doesn't happen very much in Park Slope I notice.

The service here is attentive and knowledgeable, plus this restaurant is well respected in the local-food movement for using good ingredients and sourcing locally.

I feel bad for not having tried Get Fresh sooner...especially since I live 2 blocks away and have walked by dozens if not hundreds of times before deciding to stop in for a 9PM Saturday dinner. The space has gone through several incarnations and they have now removed the to-go fridges from the front room finally making it a proper, comfortable space. The service was attentive, on the verge of being slightly overbearing but in a charming way and the ambience was pleasant despite the fact that we were sitting amongst several large parties.

The food was all quite clean and excellent, especially for the price point. The portions were very fair and my wife and I left quite satisfied after having 2 starters, 1 entree and 1 dessert. They do not have a liquor license yet so it is BYOB which, as others have noted, helps keep the price down.

Final verdict: Get Fresh is a welcome addition to the already crowded 5th Ave. scene and it is a top tier destination for neighborhood folks as well as those looking for a pleasant Park Slope dining experience.

A true foodie knows if given a choice between a restaurant with many choices on their menu vs. a restaurant with only a few, s/he'd tell you to go with the few.  As the name would imply, Get Fresh serves up the freshest food.

I finally came into this place for brunch over the weekend after passing it by so many times.  I thought it awkward for this place to sell groceries while trying to have a restaurant.  It looks like they've wisely stopped selling the groceries and perhaps they can get rid of the equipment in the front to afford more seating as the restaurant draws a good brunch crowd.  Also, some of the tables in the front are a bit dainty - a Paris like feel.

I stared at the menu drawing a complete blank as first of all, I don't typically do brunch.  Face it, brunch is a chick thing.  Next was the ingredients in some of the dishes as a lot of it is pretty healthy as it mixes fruit and veggies a lot into your eggs.  This ain't McD's!

All in all it was pretty tasty but for some reason I didn't enjoy the consistency of the meal in terms of what-gets-me-full.  My friend has some scrambled eggs on a pretty dense raisin bread while my Huervos Rancheros was topped with baked beans.  Obviously it's the bread and beans that gets ya full but for some reason it didn't sit well with me.

Not really sure I'd come back.

Lovely place for breakfast / brunch / lunch. Brilliant service and the food was simply delicious.

We had a very late breakfast / brunch; the truffled eggs were superb and the mexican twist on a numbe of dishes worked really well.

Good coffee, lovely atmosphere and great decor. Really very impressed and the next time we're in Park Slope we'll be sure to return.

This would be a 5 star for me however we noticed another dish that went to the couple next to us that we figured could not be that good; a sandwhich that appeared to be drowned in melted cheese - still.... we didn't eat it and so cannot comment beyond presentation.

Great place and certainly worth the trip to Park Slope.

Though one of my friends NEARLY ruined the experience by blurting out "OMG, we LOVE Top Chef!!!" when the cheftestant came out at the end of the meal, I think we all agreed that it was a fantastic meal.

The food changes based on season, availability, etc. so I won't go into details, other than to say that they come up with really clever ways of preparing their delicious, fresh ingredients (case in point: smoked, pickled mussels... mmmm).

The wait-staff was really knowledgeable and friendly, and the low-lit, small table thing was super cute for a romantic... girls night. Stay at home daters, we don't need any more kids in the slope.

Hopefully it's still BYOB, that was a major perk.

This place rocks. The food is delicious, they put a big emphasis on sustainability and local, and the owner is a really sweet guy with a big heart. I've now eaten several meals at Get Fresh (breakfast, lunch AND dinner) and I have never been let down. The one thing I ate that did not blow me away was a meatball sandwich that was served on bread that was way too thick (it would not have fit in the mouth of the biggest big mouth in brooklyn).

The place is cozy, offers really pretty outdoor seating in the backyard when it's warm out, and really feels like it's part of the park slope / 5th avenue community in the short time that it's been around. I truly hope that Get Fresh sticks around for years to come.

I was pleasantly surprised by my visit to this restaurant.  I have walked by it from when it first opened and it was a place to get healthy, organic meals to cook at home.  Now it is a full restaurant, BYOB.

The atmosphere is low key, relaxed, and the staff is very friendly.  I came here with four friends and we all loved it.  Getting apps, entrees, and dessert.  I highly recommend getting an order of "scratch bread" for the table, ask for it, trust me, they will know what you mean.

At the end of the evening, the chef cam out to ask what we thought of the food.  Apparently he had tried something new that night and wanted feedback, nice touch.

Also, in regards to the BYOB.  I am always a fan of BYOB for the savings.  What's great about this set-up is that they have a menu of wines from the liquor store two blocks away.  You pick your wine off that, the bottle gets delivered, and they cork and pour.  Still just as cheap and bringing it in yourself, which you could still do if you wanted to.

Overall, I would recommend and I plan on going back to again!

Happy eating!!

Get Fresh was Fresh-xcellent?

In any case, it was great. I came for dinner with two friends and I totally dug the menu, the food, the service and the atmosphere. It was oddly empty - it seems like everyone (on here anyway) comes for brunch.

I had a super tasty scallop and fresh creamed corn dinner and a pig head sausage appetizer with homemade mustard. yum! Prices run a bit high for Brooklyn, but the food is good and the concept is well executed, so it's acceptable. If prices were just a bit cheaper, this would be an all-the-time kind of place for me.

Also it's BYOB and/or they will go next door and get a bottle of wine for you, which is awesome.

I didn't really know what to expect from Get Fresh. I heard mixed reviews and couldn't get a good sense of the place when walking by.

This past Saturday my friends and I decided to give it a try for brunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The outside garden area where we sat was very cute. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The food was really good and I like the local, fresh organic deal they have going on. Everyone enjoyed the meal. I had the egg and cheese on brioche and am looking forward to the next time I can stop in for brunch and have it again! I would also like to stop in for dinner sometime.

When Get Fresh first opened I swore I would never set foot in the place.  Then it was a market, not a restaurant, and had these ridiculously sparsely filled fridges of prepared food.  I just thought the whole concept was absurd and silly and I vowed to never go there.

I think they got wind of the fact that their original concept was silly and changed their vision more to restaurant than market (though there are still some things for sale, which I'm ok with).  So when B. suggested we go out for breakfast for something "fresh" and yummy, this place came to mind.

I knew that Mark "I don't think Tom likes me" from Top Chef was now the chef here, too, and I was curious to see what it was all about.

The brunch menu is pretty modest.  They have a bread basket, some egg dishes, a blt, a breakfast burrito, a pork sandwich and huevos rancheros.  I think that may be it.  There wasn't anything that jumped out at me on it.

I settled for the braised pork sandwich, which they were apparently out of so they'd made it with chicken instead.  It's served with farmstead cheese, bean spread and roasted red peppers with a small side salad.  It was good, not amazing, but I especially liked whatever they did with the peppers.  They were nicely sweet and good.  I think the pork, the way it's usually prepared, would be richer and maybe yummier than the chicken.

B. got the huevos rancheros because I think it's physically impossible for him not to order it when it's on a menu.  It is his favorite thing ever.  It looked good, but in a healthy way.  And I think he was a little let down by that.  I think when you order huevos rancheros, healthy may not be what you're going for.  That said, I tend not to like the greasiness of huevos rancheros and this was a dish I might actually like.  Instead of refried beans there were these yummy looking pale green beans (I don't know what kind) that were very appealing to me.

Overall I thought the food was pretty simple and fine, but nothing to rave about.  I did really like their garden area. It was peaceful and comfortable and I'm sort of intrigued to try it again at dinner time.  But I probably won't be back for brunch.

This place was a rare treat in these harsh economic times. I had brunch with my out of town friends here a couple of weeks ago. Since they share my deep appreciation of really high-quality, fresh, local, in-season organic food, I knew they wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks to eat at this place. We sat in their back patio, which was lovely and well-laid out given the small space. The food was great -- huevos rancheros, truffle-infused eggs, baked scallops with herbed potatoes and eggs, fresh bread with homemade nutmeg butter and strawberry jam, watermelon juice, french-pressed coffee. Worth every penny.

I'm sentimental towards greenmarket / farm-to-table type cooking, exemplified by Get Fresh Table & Market.  Growing up in Indiana, I was never more than a stone's throw away from a co-op, farmer's market, or even a pasture with grazing cows and horses.  Making a homemade caponata meant going to the backyard and cutting down a courgette, vine ripened beefsteak tomatoes, and an aubergine from our back garden, stopping by the windowsill for a handful of fresh basil and mint.  That being said, my standards for 'localvore' food is high.

So I was delighted when I dug into a beautiful intermezzo of house cured salmon with homemade goat cheese with lavender (grown in the back patio of the restaurant) and house cured pickled cauliflower.  The frugality and sensibility of this dish would have delighted my Dad, who was a champion of localvore-ism, before it got trendy.

Backing up a bit - we came here for the whole hog roast prix fix for $35, which is done every Sunday.  The icing on the proverbial cake, is that Mark Simmons of Top Chef fame, is the Chef here, and his Aussie influence is certainly felt through the Vegemite egg custard and wattle seed pavlova.

The amuse of vegemite custard was delicately flavored and subtle, far from the pungent flavor of vegemite that I was expecting.  My gripe with this dish, was that it was served with cheap, packaged, corn chips that detracted from the elegant egg custard.  A nice piece of toasted brioche or even a delicate blini would have been more appropriate starch for this dish.

Up next was a creamy Thai curry with a great flavor profile and sumptuous mouth feel, served with steamed mussels and oysters.  I'm not a fan of steamed bivalves in general, but these two filter feeders were plump, moist, and tasted fresh.

Finally, the piece da resistance, the roast pork, served with fingerling potatoes and spring vegetables... which at first, landed with a thud.  It came out on the dry side, and resoundingly monochromatic both in color and flavor.  Reading the disappointment on our faces, our waitress graciously sent back the dish for a re-fire and a generous dressing of rich pork gravy, which saved the dish.  We ended up with a huge but clumsily assembled plate of tender pork loin with subtly flavored root vegetables and potatoes.  Nothing groundbreaking in terms of flavor, it was more akin to my Grandmother's home cooking, which over relies on a miropoix and parsley for flavoring ingredients.  However, it was filling and satisfying.

While the food may be borderline pedestrian, I feel like it's made with TLC.  We noticed that the kitchen responded pro-actively and constructively to our feedback, tailoring our neighbor's dishes to our comments, such as the lack of a gravy on the pork, or our disappointment with the oysters in Thai curry (pitched as seared bass on the menu).

Our waitress and the Chef seemed to take a genuine interest in whether or not we were enjoying our dishes.  In fact, Mark Simmons, the Chef de Cuisine, took a moment to sit down with us to discuss the good and the bad of our dining experience.  Celebrity Chef factor aside, I appreciated the willingness for receiving constructive feedback, which is essential for a fairly new restaurant such as Get Fresh.

Overall, there are some kinks to work out, but I do wish this venture the best, as they're catering to my soul with homemade and homegrown ingredients.

It is with fear and trepidation that I write a rave review for Get Fresh.  I'm still able to walk in at 1pm on a Sunday and get a table with a friend and I will be so very sad when people find out that we have such an amazing restaurant in Park Slope.

Shhhh!  Don't tell everybody.  Just go.

I want them to do enough good business that they can stay open for a long time, but not so much that I have to wait like Al di la!

This is simple, fresh, delicious food.  It is prepared and served by people who seem to love good, nutritious, healthy food.

Just one note to anyone reading these reviews.  Please ignore any review from before 2009.  Get Fresh used to be more of a prepared meals grocer.  They changed over to a full-fledged restaurant, so while you can buy some great things in their refrigerated section, you should come and sit down for a real meal.  You will not be disappointed.

Ok, I see what the other reviewers were talking about... The last time I went in, they didn't have some of the staple ingredients used in many of their brunch dishes. Ok, I get it. Sometimes you run out of beans or whatever. What really bothered me is that they didn't inform us of that until after we had tried to order AND they did not offer to accomodate with other solutions (e.g., oh, we can substitute the this for the that OR you could order this other thing instead), which I kinda feel like they need to do in these situations since the menu is rather small.

Also, I'm all hippie, crunchy, granola (in that Park Slope diva kinda way), so I didn't notice or care, but my friend was very put off by the fact that they did not have equal or other fake sugar.

Yay Get Fresh! I'm torn between 4 & 5 stars, because the food was awesome, but the idea of having a lovely meal next to a grocery store refrigerator case is a little odd. The garden  is great, and I am definitely looking forward to coming back when it's warmer and sitting back there.

I came here with some friends for the Easter roast, and thoroughly enjoyed it all. It was a fixed price menu, starting with Vegemite in (dyed!) egg shells, followed by a meat and cheese plate. I had the herbed lamb with fingerling potatoes, which was done just right. I think it had rosemary and lavender, which made for a nice fragrance. I also got to taste the veggie option, which was a warm heirloom bean dip type thing that I thought was very unique and tasty.

Some time between main courses and desserts, about half way though wine bottle #2, our adorable waitress Rebbecca mentioned something about the chef being from New Zealand. We collectively exclaimed something along the lines of "OHMYGODMARKFROMTOPCHEFMARKFROMTOPCHEFISHEHERERIGH TNOW?!?!" She apparently thought this was entertaining enough to have him bring out our desserts (both were good, I preferred the Pavlova) which left us all pretty star struck. It was a great way to end our leisurely afternoon of fresh, local goodness.

Well, maybe it was an off day, but my boyfriend and I ate here for brunch yesterday, after hearing a bunch of good reviews, and we were pretty disappointed.  He had the Huevos Rancheros, with "Supremely Spicy Chipotle Sauce, " but the sauce never came...  I had scallops and "grits," which was actually polenta - undercooked, runny, bland polenta with a bunch of parsley thrown into it to try and give it flavor...  the one good thing were the 2 (yes, 2) scallops - they were cooked to perfection and super tasty.  The chipotle sauce, they said, wasn't ready, they'd bring it out right away.  But his food was getting cold and he was hungry...  so he ended up finishing it, the sauce never came.  They apologized at the end and took off a couple dollars, but...  it was lame.  So I probably would only bother trying this again because of the nice garden in the back and the BYOB policy.

They had me at double-cut pork chop. So tender, so juicy. Might actually be the best cut of pork I've ever had-- and I lived in Tuscany for years, where the animals are well-raised, so I'm picky.

It took a long time to cook a cut of meat that thick, so they brought out a little assortment of bites while we waited in between courses. I usually despise goat cheese-- I know, everyone else loves it, I didn't... until I had theirs. It was so mild and creamy, not musty or musky, and it was infused with lavender.

The order of pickled vegetables was tasty,  but miniscule. That might be my only grievance.

The flourless chocolate cake was heavenly.

And the staff was super-sweet and attentive.

I dined on the back patio with some fellow Oregonians, and we all agreed that the ambiance was just like being back home in Portland (read: amazing).  The patio space is absolutely lovely for a summer evening, and not overly crowded.  The food was really delicious as well -- I enjoyed the mussels in a Thai curry sauce, and we had a really tasty beet salad as an appetizer.  The fact that it's BYOB is also pretty amazing...  I really loved this place and would definitely come back.

I'm not sure what happened, but over the course of a year, their portions have been cut in half. For example, we used to be able to get a large container of beef stew or chicken soup for $6 - $8.  Now, a small container (that is not even filled to the rim) of chicken soup is $7 - 8.  The food is tasty, but lately the portions leave us still hungry.  It's just not enough for the price.

Also, we used to love the hearty/HOME-STYLE organic cooking that they used to offer - short-ribs, beef stew, meat loaf, roasted veggies, mac n' cheese, etc...  It really used to taste like food that was made by someone's grandma.   Now that it has turned into a gourmet restaurant without the take-home aspect, it's lost a lot of appeal for this local stay-at-home mom.

I think all of this is a result of a new owner. We haven't seen the old owner since the renovation. Unfortunately, it looks like she took the local charm and sweet staff with her.

I'm still giving at least 3 stars because if gourmet is what you're looking for, it still has something interesting to offer.  I can still appreciate that they focus on locally grown and raised products.

Stumbled into this place last night while we were strolling on 5th on the first warm night of the season. We actually made dinner plans to go to a nearby restaurant  but this place caught our eye. Their back patio was the feature that sealed the deal. And it's a lovely spot. I had the Giannone Chicken, which was delicious. At the moment, they don't have their liquor license. But they have an arrangement with Picada y Vino Wine Shop, which is a couple of blocks away... but if you're there after 9pm, it's BYOB (or W).

Wooed by the hipster display of gourmet packaged foods in the front windows, and the cute seating in back, I was really underwhelmed by the meal itself.  The special soprassata sandwich ($7) was tiny and on a cold hard roll, presumably pre-made and sitting in a fridge out back.  The meat itself was tasty, but piled up in the center of the roll, so that the outside bites were all mustard-smeared bread, while the inside bites were essentially pura carne.  So poorly done.

After re-compiling the sandwich, and letting it warm up to room temperature, it was actually edible, but really nothing special.  With Brooklyn Bread on the corner, 'Snice down the street, and Russo's just a couple of blocks away, I can say I don't plan to return for the sandwiches.

The bake-able items looked intriguing, though...

I went to Get fresh for the daily brunch today.  The brunch every day concept is a good idea for the neighborhood. and the place seemed to have a health, clean, diverse food range vibe.

At the first table we chose the smell of bleach spilled out of the service station not so wetting to our appetite, and it would return to our second table later.

We found out as we tried to order that they did not have squash. That made for no soup option and made the only salad on the menu, by the waitress's admission, just apples and vinaigrette! for $9.

From there we ordered an egg sandwich and heuvos rancheros and a side of "winter greens."  several minutes later we found out they did not have greens either.  That left mushrooms as about the only vegetable on the menu, which are mushrooms really a vegetable?

When our food came the real disappointment set in... The huevos rancheros which cost $11 consisted of 2 tortillas, 2 fried eggs, a handful of beans, and a spoon full of salsa nothing really "fresh" about it since it did not contain and vegetables at all.  just in case that sounds significant it was easily eaten with five fork full's.  The egg sandwich while not as highly priced was just 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast and some frisee on the side.  The quality of the food was something you could find at a bagel shop of bodega for 25% of the cost.

While getting the bill corrected for items they did not have but still charged us for, we decided we would not be returning here.  Then to cap it all off as we left (and admittedly not their own fault) a guy came running loudly espousing about the two goats he had for them.  Everyone seemed to go into an immediate panic.  looking into the kitchen during this I saw that they were not even cooking with gas in the back but single electric burner.

In a neighborhood lacking in lunch spots but high in quality restraunts this was a big disappointment that does not warrant another visit.

Well prepared food, but during the day the menu is too narrow with not enough variety and the service is utterly clueless.

This has to be one of the most innovative and convenient ways to "shop" for food and for meals. GetFreshNYC has a great selection of food, but the best thing about it is how it all works.

You'll purchase meals or recipes with the component parts all prepped and almost ready. The final step, really, is your cooking the meal. In as little as 5 minutes you can have a good, mostly organic, and most of all, delicious meal after following the really easy instructions in the package. The whole "ready to cook" philosophy is fantastic and such a timesaver, especially when you want to plan meals for a whole week and they'll help you out.

You know exactly what's in the package, too; nothing artificial or insanely chemical. Organic food, and whole. An added bonus? All the packaging is completely biodegradable, compostable and/or recyclable.

Take a swing by and they'll be more than happy to help you out if you have questions about their meals, or if you're feeling lazy there's always the website.

BUMMER!
Tried the Moroccan lamb tonight.  I chose the lamb because I could easily make all of the other items from scratch myself and the lamb sounded exotic and gourmet.  One of those microwave ethnic gourmet TV dinners would have been better!  The lamb was precooked to the point that heating it up practically turned it to mush and there was too little seasoning or flavor.

Get Fresh is delicious!  We got a ton of different things and enjoyed every dish, although the pork was really the standout for me.  I loved the pickled veggies, and you can buy freshly jarred ones from the market section of the restaurant.  The ramps appetizer, which I'm guessing is seasonal, was also amazing -- grilled ramps over these sweet pancakes that just paired perfectly.  The BYOB policy is pretty easy - they go and get the wine for you down the street and have a list of choices.  The service was very attentive, and I'll definitely be going back.

how about get awesome?  i was introduced to the beauty of radishes and butter here (it sounded gross to me, but was actually good) and had a seriously amazing cheese plate for dessert.  the backyard is small, but quiet and pretty.  they could use some more lighting, my old woman eyes had trouble reading the menu.  i can't wait to go for the pig roast!
