When I was a kid I was a complete dessert hound. Breakfast? No thanks. Dinner? Nah. Delicious snacks? Meh. Cake? HOLY JESUS, GET IN MY FACE. I've mostly grown out of that, now favoring the savory end of the spectrum, but Gerhard Michler reminded me that sweets are worth saving room for.

His walnut spice cake is lightly sweet, not a cloying gross mess like most commercially available desserts, layered with a coffee cream and finished with an apricot gelee. The bûche de Noël? A total crowd-pleaser, yummy genoise rolled around buttercream and topped off with cute sugar mushrooms and hand-painted chocolate tiles. Beautiful AND delicious.

Parking's a bit dicey, you can park in one of the delivery spots (not recommended because guess what, delivery people do use them) or pull up on the sidewalk. If you do the latter do expect to be flipped off by charming families out for their daily constitutional. The cops do not seem to give even one shit, though, so joke's on you, charming families!

    Secret Treasure in Dogpatch!

Oh-so-fine European pastry creations right here... How do you beat that?  You don't.  Just order, try, and enjoy.  If you're looking for something to serve or take to a special get-together you cannot go wrong with Gerhard Michler.  We've tried a walnut spice cake that was light, moist subtle and rich at the same time, and a Bouche Noel that really wowed our Holiday guests!  Chocolate cake with hazelnut creme in a roll, covered with excellent dark chocolate and finished with decorative chocolate and marzipan decorations.  Beautiful, luscious but not heavy or too sweet.

Prices are more than reasonable.  Service is super friendly.  You can order online or by phone or just stop by at Jolt'n'Bolt.  You will be glad you did!

Near 3rd/20th convenient to the T Line and parking-possible.

If you're looking for an amazing wedding cake, don't go anywhere else. Gerhard Michler is the best in the city.

Their cakes are truly works of art and a divine to eat. They are not overly sweet or heavy. Their flavors are refined and subtle. Our guests devoured it, and yours will too.

We also asked them to do our wedding favors. Mary Michler was great to work with and incredibly flexible. We went with bag of tea cookies, which a couple of our Austrian guests said tasted exactly like back in Austria. I take that as a good sign.

We'll definitely be ordering from Gerhard Michler again for future events.

I adore Gerhard and Mary Michler; I cannot say anything but amazing things about them, their customer service, and their delicious desserts!

I had the joy of working with them for my wedding cake and guest favors (macaroons).  First, their cake flavors are unbelievably delicious; just really out of this world!  I'm a huge fan of sweets and desserts and theirs are some of the best I've had.  Second, the cake was beyond gorgeous, I was so blown away by how beautiful it was!  All of our guests raved about how fantastic the cake was.  Third, because they are wholesale, their pricing is phenomenal.  Last, Mary and Gerhard are incredibly kind people.  Mary, who I spoke with most frequently, was such a pleasure to work with.  I really appreciated all of her kindness, quick responses, creativity, and generosity.  For these reasons, I highly and completely recommend Gerhard Michler Fine Desserts to anyone looking for a wedding cake baker in the SF Bay Area.  You absolutely cannot go wrong by choosing them.

Thank you so much Mary and Gerhard for everything, we adore you!

They did the Croquembouche for our wedding (see photo). Croquembouche is the name for the traditional French wedding cake, aka "piece montee" for the Frenchies.
It looked amazing, and tasted amazing. Guests attacked it even before the husband and I had a chance to even take a look at it. We ate every last piece of it over the next couple of days.
We had half of the puffs filled with Grand Marnier Cream, half with Chocolate Cream. It was truly divine.

Creative International is the best!  I am so getting my wedding cake done by them.

Gerhard Michler is a European trained pastry chef, and he opened this place with his wife Mary, who is a great woman.   The cakes/tarts/petit fours will amaze you with their subtle flavors and incredible textures.  They completely avoid the overly sweet mishaps, and every single cake from here is absolutely decadent.  My family's been getting birthday/holiday cakes from here for the past 15 years, so I've tried pretty much everything on their menu.

The only problem is, their creations are so gorgeous you don't really want to ruin them...  go to their website to check them out, but beware the ensuing dessert cravings.

We were referred to Gerhard Michler by our wedding caterer.  I had called around to several bakeries, met a couple at wedding fairs and was underwhelmed by the response and the flavors.

Once you start planning your event, it is surprising at how many vendors don't even bother to call you back (I'm thinking of a well known SF bakery that is often featured on the Food Network - they never answer the phone and you leave a message and no one calls).

I emailed Mary Michler (yes, the owner pays personal attention to you!) and she emailed me back immediately suggesting a meeting time.

We made our way down there with a picture of the cake I wanted and were greeted with delectable treats.  They mainly make deserts for restaurants and so most of the items we tried were of that size, but they were delicious.

She also brought out the different frostings - fondant, rolled white and dark chocolate, butter cream (my favorite), and marzipan. We discussed size and servings - she brought out the pans so we could get an idea of what the finished cake would look like.  We also asked her to suggest different combinations of cake and fillings that would be popular.

We also discussed how the decoration I wanted would have to be done using rolled frosting - but the best part is that they still use butter cream UNDER the rolled frosting, so I'd have the best of both worlds.

Mary also helpfully mentioned that in order to get the black and white look I wanted they would have to put food coloring in the fondant, which might leave the insides of people's mouths black.  Fondant actually tastes like marshmallows, so we went for the dark and white  chocolate - I think that was a good decision.

We ended up getting a larger cake than we really needed because it just looked better, but we saved the entire top layer (which was specially our favorite flavors - almond cake with coconut and caramel filling) AND she sent us home with the frosting and filling samples so I had several days to ruin my diet and think about which ones I liked best.

They delivered the cake and we had plenty.  I KNOW people went back for seconds (and thirds) and many people commented on how it was the best tasting wedding cake they'd ever had.  It was gooey and delicious.

The cake was delivered by Gerhard himself and we had plenty of it all for under $600.

The entire process was painless happily delicious.  I highly recommend Gerhard Michler.  They are fantastic.

About a week ago I had two out of the batch of chocolate chip cookies that were baked by someone here in my office. Upon the first bite I was SNATCHED from reality as I savored the warm bold & buttery flavor of these wholesome delights. I will definitely have to visit the store to see what other goodies are there!

we called so many places looking for a reasonably priced croquembouche for our wedding.  gerhard michler quoted me the best price.  when i contacted them, mary responded promptly and we were able to communicate effectively via e-mail.  mary is such a sweet person!  from the start to the end she was so easy to work with!  when my husband and i first met her to discuss our wedding plans, we both thought she was very accommodating and of all the tastings we've been to, this was our favorite!  we left home with a box of desserts to last us a few days.

we decided to get a 3 foot croquembouche since we're both not huge fans of cake.  but, we still got sheet cake for those who want cake.  we got the black and white cake, but instead of dark chocolate mousse we got dolce de leche mousse.  the white chocolate fondant was heavenly!!  guests loved it, which is important.  this reminds me, i think i'm going to treat myself for my birthday and order more from them!  i don't even like cake, but i'll eat anything from gerhard michler, nothing is overly sweet or rich, their desserts are to die for!

We ordered a kid's birthday sheet cake here to feed a gazillion people (turns out we over-ordered, but that's another story) and Gerhard Michler did a great job!

The cake was a standard sheet cake, but they decorated it exactly the way we wanted:  with all kinds of safari animals, a safari landscape... the kids LOVED it!  Adults really liked it too because it tasted like real cake, the kind that pads your hips :)

The cake was done totally on time, not too expensive, customer service was great at explaining options and being responsive.

Okay - I thought there would be some wedding cakes left for us to taste at the reception...well, I was wrong.  Thank goodness for our caterer who had saved us the top tier.

We had a three-tier wedding cake and a sheet cake at our reception.  The bottom tier was chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse and cappuccino cream filling, the middle tier was hazelnut cake with raspberry cream filling and the top tier was lemon cake with assorted fresh berries in lemon cream filling (we took this home and finished it in less than a week).  And, the full sheet cake was white and chocolate cakes with fresh strawberries and vanilla cream fillings.  When my guests found out that we had different types of fillings and cakes, many of them went for 3 slices.  Not 1 or 2, but 3.  They loved the cakes!

Brides and grooms to be...this is a place to go to order your wedding cake.  Delicious and reasonably priced.  A very professional and reliable vendor.

Mary and Gerhard Michler were amazing.  I don't like to dole out 5 star reviews too lightly, but I can't really find a fault with them.  The flavors and quality are exquisite.  I used them for my wedding cake (bride's cake specifically), and it turned out exactly as I'd hoped.

The tasting was the first sign of excellence.  We tried several of the outer coverings, frostings, and then the various mousses and cake flavors.  The fresh fruit options are amazing, but we ended up going with raspberry and passion fruit, which is my all time favorite flavor in the universe.  For the design of the cake, they actually created a small sample cake, designed exactly how the large cake would be done, so you can confirm that the look is right.  How wonderful is that?  I wanted something pretty complex, so they tried two different design styles on the cake, and we ended up selecting the simpler design, because they didn't pipe frosting, they piped dark chocolate!  The sample cake tasted just as good as the tastings, and the wedding cake was even better.  It was everything we could have asked for, and the delivery and details were flawless.  They were easy to work with, flexible, and I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

We went for a tasting months ago and we booked Gerard Michler for our wedding croquembouche. Mary helped us figure out what we needed and worked within our price range. I did not have to worry about them as a vendor at all. They delivered the croquembouche all the way to Sonoma on time and it looked amazing. Guests still rave about how delicious it is. Note, you remove each choux-cream puff- with scissors, you don't tear it off with your hand like in the photo. Anyway I would highly recommend them, if we did not get the croquembouche, we would have gotten their chocolate mousse cake with fresh berries...to die for!!

Its been a month since my wedding and I am still hearing compliments about my wedding cake from this bakery.  The tasting was very informative and I felt no pressure, Mary just took her time educating me and letting me sample some of their desserts so I could get an idea of flavors. Their little desserts are soo delish!! I was temped to order those also. But we did a 2 tier square cake and it was totally customized. She let me do anything I wanted and even pulled off the yellow mosaic tile design I wanted, even though she had not done one before.  I think their prices are a little more than some, but the quality is there, no icky over-sweet frostings. Just fresh and real!  Delivery was on time and the delivery and set up fee was VERY reasonable, about $30 for within the city.  Mmmm makes me want some now!!

Every year I get my mom's birthday cake from here, tiki crunch.  The flavors in this cake are not usually my favorites,  I initially got it because it's what my mom would like.  I love this cake one of the best I've ever had.  The quality of the cake has been consistent from year to year.   Sponge cake and macadamia nut crunch are so good together.  It's a little expensive but it's worth it.

We LOVED our cake from Gerhard Michler Bakery.  We worked with Mary in the planning. She is SUPER friendly, helpful and extremely patient as we thumbed through books and ideas.  They can do pretty much anything you'd like.  Her office where you meet in the main bakery part where you see them making everything. The bakery is huge (based on my very limited bakery experience).  There are many people working in the bakery and the thing that I noticed the most was that everybody was smiling and talking and friendly and seemed like they really enjoy what they do.

During the tasting, she had samples of icings, cakes and fillings and gave us 4 small cakes to take home and enjoy.

The day I brought our flowers for the cake, I met with the lady who was going to ice and decorate it.  She was extremely friendly and wanted to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted.

The cake itself was beautiful and exactly what we asked for.  We had 3 tiers, each with different cake, fillings and fresh berries. It was DELICIOUS!!!

We also had a creampuff tree for the Groom's Cake which stood 2 feet tall and looked amazing with chocolate covered strawberries and powdered sugar here and there...

Overall, I would give Gerhard Michler my highest recommendation.  The prices are very reasonable (for the Bay Area), the cake is delicious and the service is terrific!

AMAZING!  We were referred to Gerhard Michler by a friend and couldn't have been happier.  When meeting with Mary, I explained what I was wanting and she sketched it out right there.  It was exactly what I wanted!!!  Our wedding cake was both gorgeous and delicious!  We have both chocolate and white cake in alternating layers.  We had fresh raspberries in our filling (one of their specialties).  And overall, we had such a great experience with Mary!
Also, we decided to use the bakery for our favors.  We had 3inx3in shortbread cookies with icing and our new monogram.  They tasted amazing!  I can't tell you how many compliments I got.  And they were so affordable.
Turns out that 2 of my other friends used Gerhard Michler for their wedding cakes this year too....you really can't go wrong!

Gerhard Michler is the only bakery we set an appointment with for our wedding cake. After a thorough research and reading every review about them, we knew they would be our cake maker.

Mary Michler was the best. She's very accommodating, straight to the point and always returns your calls. You know how important it is when you're planning a wedding. Not only that, we had last minute change on the shape of our middle tier, which supposedly would cost more, but Mary just gave it to us for free! Amazing! We ordered 2-tier of Dark Chocolate Mousse and 1-tier Raspberry Filling, and it was one of the many compliments we received after the wedding.

We highly recommend Gerhard Michler for your wedding cakes, or other special occasions because they are reasonably priced, excellent quality and great customer service.

I ordered a birthday cake here (flourless chocolate) which was excellent in taste and tailored to design specifications. I will definitely use this bakery again. The cost was reasonable, it was as good as any cake I have had at the best bakeries in town, and the customer service was excellent. Note that the flourless chocolate cake keeps well in the refrigerator for several days (unlike flour-base cakes which more quickly degrade in texture). Add some vanilla bean ice cream (from Mr. And Ms. Miscellaneous around the corner from Michler) and you've got a great dessert option for days.
