Best Bagels in town. thats it. the best. no question.
Ive been getting bagels here since i was 15. -
Review from Steve S.
Another great Yelp find! If there is a line out the door, either the place is too small or the food is freakin' awesome. In this case, it's both.
After fighting a losing battle trying to find parking in Georgetown, I decided to get lost and find something with a little better access. Enter the Georgetown Bagelry, which is ironically, quite a bit away from Georgetown. I've never had an east coast bagel, but if they are like this, I'm a huge fan!
I arrived on a Sunday, and the line was, well, ridiculous. But they did a relatively good job sorting through the mess and giving me a delicious sausage and egg sandwich within 10 minutes. Yum! Now that I'm spoiled, I need to find a better bagel place here in Denver! -

Drove a bit to get here so I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't blown away. Having said that I only ordered a whole wheat with butter. Maybe if I had delved further into the cream cheeses or the normal white four bagels I would have been more satisfied.
The dining area is dingy, not cute. Someone needs to be employed to wipe down the tables.
P.S. Took home a few "minis" (the size normal bagels were once upon a time. Liked the flavor on the poppy and sesame ones. Also took home a black and white...nah. I've had better B&Ws. -

My never ending quest to find a quality bagel in DC may finally be over! I just had a wonderfully light, flavorful (although unfortunately a wee bit more bready than chewy...I like my bagels on the chewier-side ) oatmeal raisin bagel with cream cheese! It might be because I got the bagel FREE (sign up for their newsletter and they email you a coupon) but, I do believe that -- short of driving to NYC-- g-town bagelry just might be my go-to bagel joint!

Review from Eric W.
I haven't lived in the neighborhood for several year, but every time I can get down to this section of DC, I stop in for a bagel. It is pretty hard to make a bagel special, but Georgetown Bagelry does it with ease. First, they have a large and varied selection of bagels and cream cheeses. My favorite is the garlic salt bagel with bacon horseradish cream cheese, it might sound odd, but it is really good. In my experience, the bagels are always fresh and the staff is always courteous. The service is pretty fast, but not fast enough to sacrifice quality. The one warning I would give is that it is good to get there earlier if you go on a weekend. It shares a too small parking lot with a Whole Food, so parking can be tough after people start their shopping.

Review from Shachi B.
Located in the same strip mall as Whole Foods (on River Road), this is a no frills, inexpensive place to get a fresh, warm bagel.
Here's my rundown:
1) Their egg sandwiches are made with, wait for it... real eggs! None of that bright yellow egg-like stuff that Breugger's and others use, which for me, is great! Their cheese is a bit processed, but eh, it'll do.
2) There's ample parking in the strip mall.
3) For $1.75, you can get a mini-bagel (they're probably the size of an english muffin) with freshly fried egg and cheese on top. It's the perfect size for anyone who hates that heavy, sinking feeling they get when they eat an entire, regular sized bagel.
4) If you check in once (on yelp, of course) you're eligible for 1 free mini-bagel with cream cheese! Perfect for an on the run snack.
Worth the trip!! -

I had a Reuben of sorts for myself (I suppose if its on a bagel its not a Reuben) - enough of semantics - it was very good....the meat was top shelf. My only disappointment was I couldn't get a read on the bagel. Darn, I'll have to go back.
BTW - on line ordering- very user friendly - snap - in and out.
(Don't tell Mary but it is very reasonably priced).
As Arnold said: "I'll be back." -

Best pizza bagels in town. They also have some of the most amazing lox I have ever had in my life! You must try them! Their egg salad, tuna salad, and white fish salad are all to die for. They also make great platters for parties and special occasions.
I have always ogled there bagel dogs, and hope to one day push myself to order one. A Bethesda staple and a must try. -
Review from Dana Z.
This place is in a pretty obscure location ... which is confusing since it's not even located in Georgetown but whatever I guess?
The inside of the place looks really cute. They have a huge selection of fresh bagels and cream cheese. For a bagel place in the DC area, this place comes pretty close to the mark. One of the best I've found. I first tried it because I had a groupon coupon which is great because I got to try a huge selection of bagels for cheap (yay) I normally don't eat chocolate chip bagels but theirs was really good!
I don't know if I would make a special trip out there, but if I were in the area I might go back and pick up a dozen to take home. -

Met up with Mike T. for lunch one day; he'd told me about this bagel place and took me there so I could check it out. This rather small joint gets a decent amount of traffic!
I had the Miami Burger, which was freaking deliiiiiicious. In fact, it was so good that I wanted to give them more money... so I got a chocolate chip bagel and rugelach to go.
Wtf. Why had I never had rugelach before! -
Review from Evan H.
Georgetown Bagelry probably has the best, closest to authentic, NY Style bagels in the DMV. Are they as perfect as a bagel in NY area? Nope. Are they pretty damn good for what they are? Yes.
I wish they still had the Georgetown location, as it was nice to be down in that area and have the ability to get a tasty bagel, and not a round roll. The location in Bethesda isn't too far from me now. I am a huge fan of their egg/cheese sandwiches, that actually use an egg, not a fake microwave piece of "egg" like some places do.
The prices are pretty standard for quality bagels and they have a nice stock of cream cheese flavors and drinks. I always ask for a freezer bag and keep my stored that way. You can easily keep them for a couple weeks, but its best to eat them quicker than that. My favorite variety is the everything bagel, but their sesame seed bagels are good too. I wish they had whole wheat everything.
Regardless, this is one the few good bagel shops around this area. -

I really loved this bagel shop! I came here several times while visiting Nicole, before I moved to DC, usually on a Friday for lunch. They have a large selection of bagel types, my favorite being the Everything. It actually tastes like everything, unlike so many other bagel shops attempts at big bold flavor. There is also a pretty big selection of fresh made spreads to get with it, but I usually chose to just go with a sandwich.
Typically I would just order the BLT (I'm sure it's a culinary sin somehow to get bacon on bread made famous by Jewish people) and have it toasted. All the flavors meld together so nicely, and they put just the right amount of mayo on to give some balance to the heavy bagel. They also have my favorite Route 11 chips, which gets an automatic star boost at any establishment!
It looks like they also make their lox fresh in the store, either that or they had giant pieces of fish on display for no particular reason. They even do bagel-dogs for the kiddies. One note, the sea salt bagels are REALLY salty, so prepare to do some scraping unless you're just feeling extra aquatic that day. Also, this is in the same shopping lot as the Whole Foods, so often times it can be a major pain to get in the parking lot, so be patient, it's worth the wait for some fresh bagels in Bethesda.Listed in: Veg-I-Might

Finally....... a great bagel place in the Bethesda area! What's a girl to do when she wantsa good old fashioned egg on a bagel? March right down to Georgetown Bagelry, I tell ya.
Today I had some of the best fresh-squeezed orange juice that I've had in a long time. Think grove style - - lots of juicy bits.
Definitely a classic bagel shop worth checking out. They have a lunch menu and also do catering. -

There is nothing better than a fresh bagel, except a fresh bagel toasted and topped with bubbly cheese accompanied by an orangina.
The bagelry is pretty much good for any meal or snack of the day. Though the store itself isn't all that cozy, I've definitely spent some time here chatting with friends on weekend mornings and felt comfortable.
For something more substantial - order a chicken salad bagel sandwich. -

YES. YES. YES.
I love this place! When I was little, my grandmother used to take me in here for pizza bagels all the time. Now, I have evolved, and this place still delivers great tasting food!
These are most definitely some of the BEST tasting bagels in the DMV. However, their sandwiches are AMAZING. I have 2 favorites: the Miami Burger, which is smoked salmon, tomatoes, onions, and cream cheese. When I get it on one of their artisan everything bagels, my taste buds SOAR! My other favorite is their white fish salad. I'm not sure whether or not they make it in house, but it is simply amazing. I've tried whitefish salad at Bethesda Bagels, and it simply does not measure up. Overall, this place is simply amazing.
Be sure to follow Mary on Twitter @MaryBeallAdler. She releases secret codes that you can use to get discounts at Georgetown Bagelry. Once again, this place is AMAZING!! -

Best bagels in the area, bar none. Their bagels are fresh (so fresh that if you follow owner Mary on twitter @MaryBeallAdler, she often tweets when they come out of the oven throughout the day). The staff is friendly. It's not a chain, it's owned by the aforementioned (and extremely friendly) Mary Adler.
The bagels are good, the sandwiches are good, the bagel pizzas are good, the spreads are good, what more could you possibly want from a bagel shop?
If you're in the area and want a bagel, go here. Period. -

Finding good bagels in the DMV is difficult. However, Georgetown Bagelry is one of those places that I crave while at college in California, and every time I come home, I MUST go to. The shop itself is in an unassuming small collection of stores (with horrendous parking), but it's more than what meets the eye.
The bagels are delicious, but what especially stands out are the bagel sandwiches on the menu. The "Miami Burger" (tomato, onion, cream cheese, and lox) is a filling and flavorful breakfast/brunch item. The Reuben is also one of my favorites, piled with corned beef and toasty! The pizza bagel and bagel dog are also worth a try!
The homemade cream cheese mixes are excellent as well, with a variety of flavors to please all. The owner, Mary, does an excellent job with the place, and often posts discounts on twitter for those who follow. The OJ in the fridge is also not to be missed-fresh squeezed, and better than any commercial brand you can buy.
Overall, I have nothing but good things to say about Georgetown Bagelry, its staff, and its product. If you are in the area, it's a sin not to try this place! -
Review from Kelly K.
Best bagels I have found in Greater DC area. Located on River Road in the same mall as Whole Foods at the opposite end. The coffee is good too. They were out of coffee and made a fresh pot just for me. The only thing that bothered me was the classical music playing was too loud and jarring on the senses in this small store.

To be honest I really can't compete with the level of in-depth reviewing already on this page... so let me just say, in the words of Family Guy, Georgetown Bagelry is:
FREAKIN' SWEEEEET!
Edit:
I give it a one star edge over Bethesda Bagels because BB has no parking and is usually busier. -

I had a Groupon for a baker's dozen of bagels and cream cheese. Well, this location was so far out there. Anyway, service was friendly and efficient. The bagels were kind of tough/hard. I was surprised when I saw blueberry bagel... it had little specks of blue in it...I'm used to whole blueberries in bagels. The cinnamon raisin bagel was not very sweet...not enough cinnamon or raisins. The cream cheese was just average. Also, by the next day, the bagels were rock hard.

If you're looking for a good, affordable bagel and some amazing fresh squeezed orange juice, go no further than Georgetown Bagelry in Bethesda.
Ms. Classy and I have come here a few times and liked it so much, we brought her parents here for breakfast when they came to visit over the holidays. We entered this tiny eatery and luckily there wasn't much of a crowd like our first visit. We quickly shuffled up to the counter, selected our bagels (garlic and salt for me, whole wheat 'everything' for her), and our desired bagel filler. We were in a breakfast mood, so we steered away lunch/dinner selections and opted for the egg and cheese to fill in the space between the bagel halves.
The garlic and salt bagel really packs a wallop and should only be ordered by people who REALLY love garlic and salt (which I do!). If you like a hint of garlic rather than a garlic punch in the mouth, try the 'everything' bagel where the blend of garlic, poppy, onion, and salt mix and no specific flavor rises above another. At only $3.20 each, these fit well below my 'cheap eat' standard. Seriously, anyone would be hard pressed to find a better breakfast for the same price. Unfortunately, they were out of fresh orange juice when we arrived. The orange juice is a tad pricey, but so good. We browsed the cooler for other drink selections and split a can of Dr. Brown's diet black cherry soda. Ms. Classy's father had a coffee and quickly proclaimed it was the best coffee he's had in the entirety of his visit (we had coffee from a few establishments before hand, including Starbucks and Seattle's Best).
Will we go back? Most certainly. We feel we've had our fill of breakfast and next time we want to try something more "lunchy" like the Miami burger and pizza bagel. I can't wait to try them. If you're in the mood for a quick, cheap, filling breakfast and are in the Georgetown area, just hop on the Metro to Bethesda and go to Georgetown Bagelry.

Best bagels in DC, and it's not even close. This sounds arrogant, but anyone who thinks einstein's or any of the other chains are better, know nothing about bagels. The staff at GB is always pleasant, they have GREAT sandwiches (try the miami burger) and they are open later than most bagel places. All around amazing bagels, service, and options. Love it

Big fan of this place. Love their chicken salad and their BLTs. Something that's really been bothering me though... every time I've gone here they've cut out the center of my sandwich bread... No one else seems to have a problem with this but me. Weird.
EDIT: Actually, I'm gonna go ahead and give this place 5 stars because I love it so much -

Wanting to love people, and wasting time and money and precious energy trying to make it happen has long been a weakness of mine. Something, somewhere, tells me I should love them, because they are kind or attractive or patient or any number of things that are, in reality, never enough on their own.
Although I have happily, after much heartbreak (not the least of which was my own), largely given up on that habit in my personal life, it nevertheless seems to have been pushed off to the little (well maybe not so little) part of my brain that is devoted to food.
Months of perky, chipper little tweets from http://www.twitter.com... from Georgetown Bagelry have made me want to try the place for ages. After an unsuccessful attempt a few weeks ago (where I discovered, that it is NOT, in fact, in Georgetown, but rather Bethesda), I went traveling for a bit, and hadn't made another attempt.
Today, in an attempt to actually get some non-food writing done (which you can see I have succeeded wildly at), I finally made the drive up there. Anywhere outside the diamond or across the river is a big deal for me. I had a mini-meltdown when I discovered that my boyfriend lived one block over the dividing line, and in fact paid taxes in Maryland! Gasp! Nevertheless, I have, largely on account of his inspiration (he knows the cities he has lived in more comprehensively than most local police, and I admire his getting out of his own bubble), begun exploring the no-man's land that comprise the DC suburbs. He would take issue with me even calling Bethesda, or Alexandria for that matter, suburbs, but baby steps, right?. I have been recently on a rather unsuccessful attempt to be very productive in coffee shops all over town.
Georgetown Bagelry should have been a great place to love. The tweets are always full of deals, they offer great discounts on already super-reasonable prices, it was busy enough to seem alive without being loud or distracting, there was free wi-fi, and a booth to call my own. A wide variety of bagel options rounded out the deal. Nevertheless, I left feeling 'eh'. The bagels were good, the cream cheese good, but neither blew me away. I still prefer Bagels and Baguettes on the Hill. I wanted to love them, but well, I just couldn't feign enough passion. It didn't help that the first time I ordered, I received a sesame instead of onion with my scallion cream cheese. Still tasty, but not quite what I wanted. The ordering process was itself was pretty painful. The staff was distracted, and not overwhelmingly good with communication- they seemed to have a hard time understanding customers. The second time I ordered a blueberry with strawberry cream cheese, and somehow got a tub of strawberry cream cheese and a milk? When I pointed this out, the server just gave me back the price of the milk, without the extra tax, and seemed mostly annoyed.
That said, its cheap, well-designed, and tasty. I was everything a good bagel shop should be. But like all the 'everything a good boyfriend should be' men I have had to painfully give up over the years, for some reason, there just wasn't the spark I needed.
Alas.
Give it a try. Who knows, maybe its the bagel shop YOU were meant to be with.

It was alright. I noticed the best of Washington post on the wall, but i'm not sure if it is worth the post. Positive is that the bagel is just the right texture of chewy. Downside, all their sandwiches are mediocre at best. I'm comparing this to NYC bagels and there is no comparison. They are small in selection and size. The lox is not as flavorful as some others and where are the capers. How can you have lox and no capers???? I will recommend the fresh squeezed OJ, that was outrageous.

Bagels are made fresh daily. Delicious and great varieties.
Their variety of sandwich and breakfast fillings ever delicious.
They are courteous, friendly, quick service, you can even order delivery service to your location or set for specific time to deliver to a friend as a delicious surprise!
Get the real deal with good, friendly service, what more could one ask? Oh, and a good tip, get on twitter or facebook for a secret word and get your bagels on the way home from work for half price! How great is that. Not every day but about once a week lately! -

Terrific little eatery. I enjoy breakfast and lunch there frequently. The bagels are FRESH and yummy. Mini-menu is great. My kids (and I) just love it. My personal faves are tuna and chicken salad sandwiches (not too much mayo - just right) on whole wheat or sesame bagels or on flattened bagel, called "flagel." Hubby likes turkey or roast beef sandwiches on "everything" or onion bagels. Kids enjoy creamy-cream cheese and egg & cheese mini-bagel sandwiches, and bagel sticks with a small container of cream cheese for dipping. A family biz with friendly servers and a LOVELY proprietor add to the overall experience (follow her on twitter @MaryBeallAdler) .

I must go to a different Georgetown Bagelry than everyone else. The last two times I went there, I walked out without buying anything. How hard is it to put a dozen bagels in a bag? Apparently very hard when you are engaged in conversation with the other workers, regulars and random people. Also very hard when you don't bother baking enough bagels to serve your clients. Instead of running a rude and lovable bagel shop a la Seinfeld, they are just rude. And slow. I must not fit the demographic they seek or something.
