My boyfriend and I stopped here for a quick lunch on a Friday afternoon. The ordering area is small, but there is a large and updated dining area in the back, with plenty of tables. I had a margherita slice and a white slice with broccoli, and both were really good. My boyfriend liked his sausage slices as well. It's one of the better pizza places in the area, in my opinion, and luckily, close to my office!

It's not my closest neighborhood pizza joint, but I have to admit that Gennaro's may be my favorite. Crispy crust, not too much grease, fresh topppings. Overall a VERY hard to beat pie. I echo many of the other positive reviews already mentioned on here and can't comment on any of the non-pizza options because I stick to their slices of heaven.

This joint is one of the ten trillion pizza places around here. There is a small dining area, in addition to the takeout business. The pizza is made in steel gas-fired ovens.
I went in at lunchtime today to get a sandwich. There were seven or eight large "gourmet" pizzas sitting out on the counter, waiting to be reheated on a per slice basis. They looked old and forlorn. The basic, plain pizza looked like the cheese and sauce were literally painted on.
They also had baked ziti pizza. The pasta sitting on top of the crust was already dried out from being boiled, then baked in the oven. If you wanted to eat it, they would have to reheat it for you again. Whoever created it should call it, "Thrice-Cooked Dry Ziti Pizza Pie".
I got a ham, provolone, salami, and capicola sub ($6.75). The torpedo roll was OK, but there wasn't much meat on it, just one or two thin slices of each. It reminded me of the pre-made sandwiches you buy in the terminal at the airport.
Next time, when I want a real sub, I will go back to old, reliable, Hershey's Deli, up the block. -

I notice the reviews so far, 5 stars for every reviewer. I'm giving 4 stars since one of the subs, the meatball sub was just okay. Just too much bread for the meatballs you're given.
Coming to this place is all about the pizza. The balance of a plain cheese pizza is just right.. not salty or tangy sauce and it's crispy. It helps that the guys making the pizza is from Naples, Italy....which I think is known for their pizza and now the specialty is in Westfield, NJ. Talk to Italian to them...say Buon Giorno! they would reply in Italian in return.
My 4 year daughter looks forward to this place every Saturday as she goes to the My Gym next door. She orders the pasta pizza and her 2nd choice is the mushroom pizza. Slices can be expensive but not as much as Manhattan. It's $3 a slice for any slice with toppings.
I think this place is banking the bucks since it's part of a strip mall where My Gym is next door and when people have birthday parties, who do you think they would be getting pizza from? You know it...Gennaro's Pizza. It's $12 a cheese pie with juice boxes at My Gym. There's also a martial arts center at the other end of the strip mall and you can see the kids coming out of that place making a pit stop at this pizzeria.
There's ample parking. The service is friendly and the guys are very Italian and they are INTO watching soccer. There's a tv right above the counter where they can watch and take pizza orders.
They recently added booths to replace some of the tables with chairs which is nice especially for the kids since you could jam 3 kids on one side or an infant carrier. -

The pizza is the only reason we go to gennaro's. It's just good, basic pizza - crisp, tasty crust, good ratio of sauce & cheese. They use FRESH mushrooms, not canned, on their mushroom pizza. Everything else on the menu is "meh" - nothing particularly good. Unfortunately, they don't deliver, so sometimes we'll choose to order from other places that offer free delivery even if their pizza isn't as good as Gennaro's.

People rave about NY style pizza, but the truth is what they mean and want is NJ style. (NY style is mostly boring and lame- except for the spinach&ricotta pie at Ray's on Prince St.)
NJ style, however, is tangy and crispy and has a sense of the humbleness that pizza oughta retain to be authentic- I mean it's cheese and sauce on dough, for cryin out loud. But the ratio of cheese and sauce has got to be right, the balance of simple to elegant has to come through, and the ingredients have to be good or you have the crap that passes for most of the pizza in the Bay Area...
We ate some slices here a few years ago, and dream of this quintessential pie all the time - no one makes it like this here in the Bay Area (Arinell's comes pretty close) anyhow, Gennaro's has the full restaurant and pizzaria menu, which I cannot vouch for, though, all I've ever had is the plain pizza by the slice...the pizza of my youth...or yute as the case may be... -

Amazing Jersey Pizza. I have tried a lot - but I always come back to Gennaro's.
Try the plain! Try the baked ziti pizza! Try the salad pizza! They are all amazing, that perfect crispy on the outside but chewy thin crust, the tomatoey-salty-amazing sauce, and the cheese - ohhhh the cheese! -

Tried the bruschetta pizza- the tomatoes were not ripe and I was told there would be sauce
shrimp parm sub- extremely sub par
calamari- greasy and standard
I haven't tried the cheese pizza which is probably where I went wrong -

This is our family's favorite pizza in the area. We usually get our Friday night pizza here, unless the line is out the door, which it sometimes is. The broccoli knots are also yummy.

Now THIS is pizza.

Underwhelming in every way. The house salad is iceberg lettuce, cukes, rock-hard tomato and canned black olives. Pizza crust is dense and flavorless. Sauce and cheese is just salty. On the night I went for dinner, the waitress was out to lunch - horrible service. Best for a quick lunch (there's ample parking) when speed is morenimportant than quality.

The best pizza in Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield. None better. They don't deliver. and on Friday nights the line for pickup is many deep.
