Category: Art Supplies [Edit]
Neighborhood: BucktownThis place offers a 20% discount to all students, on top of prices that are already lower than Pearl and Blick! I came here looking for drafting supplies, and I was pleased with the selection. It wasn't a huge selection, but it was comparable in size to the drafting selection at Pearl. I know I'll be back.

I discovered Genesis right before I moved away from Logan Square almost two years ago. Oak Park had a dearth of decent, reasonably priced art supply stores (and don't get me started on Rogers Park...oy vey), so I would trek all the way to Genesis for my canvas and paints. They carry a NICE selection of sketchbooks, and their silkscreen supplies are awesome.
Helpful staff, inexpensive stuff--it may not be a Pearl or a Blick, but it's better for it.

This place is amazing and run by the nicest most helpful people you will ever meet in this city seriously. I only head to Pearl after making sure Genesis doesn't already have what I'm looking for. I consider myself extremely lucky to be so close by. Hooray!
I used to say, "the good news is I'm a block away from an art supply store; the bad news is it sucks." Not any more. I don't know what happened but they cleaned up the chaotic piles of mess and filled up the gaps in their chronically empty shelves . Despite its small square footage (it's tight in there), it always has everything I want -- a full line of Golden, Liquitex mediums, essential papers, brushes, pencils. You don't get the Hog Heaven effect of Blick or Pearl with 15 different brands of everything you want, and then some, but it's got all the basics so that I don't have to go to another neighborhood. Artists of Logan Square and Bucktown, rejoice! Also, if you teach art, are an art student, or belong to CAC their discounts are significant.
Low prices, well-stocked, and they have the type of retail staff I like best--the kind that leave you completely alone so you can browse, but are plenty nice and helpful when asked for assistance.
SUPER. super nice, helpful, (relatively) low prices, selection... especially for the neighborhood... and especially friendly.
Cool indie store with old fasion customer service. I like to buy stuff on thier web site (www.artsupply.com) and pick it up at the store. Very convienient. Or if you like digging through stuff you''l find what you need as this place is jam pack with everything. Hats off.

I love this place. The people are friendly, the selection is awesome and it's not a chain store. Can you ask for more?

You wouldn't believe how long I've lived just 5 blocks away from this place without even realizing it existed! Too Long!
Great staff and a surprisingly large selection. It's never going to compare to some huge place like Pearl, but it's really nice have to not have to drive down to the heart of City North to buy paint anymore.

Wide selection of art supplies, one of the least expensive in the city for retail. My husband teaches an art class and he gets many of his supplies here. Fun to browse and imagine projects. Conveniently located on Western Ave.
the stuff is a little more pricey but they usually have ads in the reader for 20% off with ad. also it's kind of jumbled up and cramped...but yeah it's close to my house so if i need some ink that's where i can go.
