General Patton Memorial Museum
2 reviews for General Patton Memorial Museum
Oh my. This place is pretty funny. I hopped over to the grand old town?settlement? dot on the map? of Chiriaco Summit (I know it says Indio here, but if you see Chiriaco, you'd know why) after a great visit to Joshua Tree. Basically Chiriaco Summit is a gas station, restaurant, and this musem. And that's it. There's nothing else around for miles (except the interstate).
This place is super funny and about what you expect it to be: A middle of nowhere museum. Patton does have a minor history with the area, so it's kind of understandable. But why should you go here? Ummm. Hmmm. That's a good question. Why did you have to ask me that question?
The city says "Indio" but in reality, it's up a steep grade at the Chiriaco Summit as you head into the no-man's land of I-10. Somewhere north is Joshua Tree, somewhere south is the Salton Sea, and the only indication you're in the middle of anything is the ton of traffic dive-bombing into the parking lot for Arco gas and Foster's freeze. The statue will entertain you while you lick your soft-serve.
