I was hankering for some pancit and lumpia, so a co-worker of a certain ethnic persuasion graciously helped me order some from this little "gem" of a place.

Fresh, delicious, and a whole lotta food for the price.

There's a minimum of 25 lumpia for like $8 - the spicy sauce it comes with is better than I'm used to and there was certainly more than 25 lumpia in my container (well til we ate most of 'em).

They also have baked goods, but as a rather caucasian person, I'm not at all familiar with what's what.

For those who've lived in the area for a long time, it's in the shopping center where the old Edwards Cinema used to be.

We're weekly regulars here for breakfast. It's greasy, wholesome goodness. Greasy, fried eggs, two huge helpings of  garlic fried rice, and meats to choose from: tocino, fish. It's a great deal for only $6.00 a plate. We usually eat there and the vinegar added to the meat is always a great combo.

The bread here is ok. I've had better ube bread and pan de coco at other locations. It's a little harder here in comparison to Kristy's or Valerio's. There's also a really great pan de sal place inside the Vinh Hung shopping center close by to Gemmae's.

Whenever I hear the words "potluck" and people ask me what I'll be bringing, I automatically think, "lumpias." And when I do bring the lumpias to the said potluck, people would think that it's homemade or I made them. And that's what I love about Gemmae's.

I know Gemmae's is a bake shop and I've yet to have their cakes. The other thing that I've had at Gemmae's is their tapsilog. I would say that Gemmae's tapsilog rivals Zarlito's any day. At least the people are really nice and hospitable.

You know, I keep hearing about how awesome Fredcel's is, and while I have yet to try it, Gemmae's lumpiang shanghai will do me good until then.

A little less than nine bucks for 25 long pieces, it's a good deal.

I have to tell you... my first impression of the Gemmae franchise was not a good one.  One time back in the day, my parents came home from the Navy Commissary in Port Hueneme, bringing home some Gemmae siopao.  And I love siopao, but there's something wrong about frozen stored siopao, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but it always, in my opinion, sucks.  There was no hope in bringing back to what it once was in the microwave.  This siopao from Gemmae was gross.

But maybe I should have looked at it differently, and instead of blaming Gemmae, I should have just blamed the concept of freezing siopao.

Nonetheless, I like Gemmae.  It's especially close to where I live, they have all the Filipino baked goods I need, they serve BREAKFAST, and their lumpiang shanghai is the most baller in all of Mira Mesa, topping R&B's, Manila Fast Food, Cristy's, you name it.

One of my favorite Filipino Bakery's in the Mira Mesa area. I often go to order breakfast. My favorite is "longsilog." Longsilog is a combination of longgonisa (Filipino sausage), sinangag (fried rice), and itlog (eggs). You can customize your eggs (i.e., scrambled, sunny side up, etc.).

My second favorite thing to order is "turon." A turon consists of plantain and jackfruit wrapped in a eggroll wrapper, dipped in brown sugar, then fried.

I should also mention, they also have the best "pan de sal." Pan de sal is the most popular yeast-raised bread in the Philippines. I like to purchase it when it is freshly made; however, you have to get there early, as it goes quickly!

I've ordered several other things on their menu and have not had any negative experiences. Being Filipina, I am very particular about Filipino cuisine, but as I mentioned, they are one of the best Filipino bakery's in Mira Mesa.

Located in Mira Mesa, Gemmae Bake Shop offer hot food aside from baked goods. Delicious, authentic Filipino food and cakes for all occasions, with excellent, friendly staff! Did I mention we ordered our wedding cake here?

I don't know who Gemmae is...but I want to call him/her "mom/dad".  Fresh and hot empanadas, and other Filipino baked goods.  They even have some hot meals.

Their specialty is definitely baked goods, and it will be apparent with cakes and pastry displays upon you walking into the store. Other than that, they have decent hot food and delicious empanadas to offer as well. The lines in here can get a little long, but that's mostly reserved for the morning and lunch crowds. Oh yeah...and they have hot pan de sal. Hooray!
