Oh my goodness, this gelato. They have cookies and creme. And one bite had half an oreo in it.
Thank you, Gelayo Gusto, for letting me eat my oreos without making me have to deal with the fact that I'm eating mad oreos.
I got mine topped with the roasted peanut fudge gelato. It wasn't too fudgy, mostly peanutty, but as a Lindsay Lohan-ite (in her cute years) who dips her oreos in peanut butter, it was perfect.
Got it in the waffle cone... Did I mention that this was perfect?
Only not perfect thing: the price. Almost $5 for the cone-- although the scoops were definitely generous. More bang for your buck than down the street at Baskin Robbins, that's for sure! Plus they have a frequent buyer's club-- spend $30, get $3 off!
Ok, Gelayo Gusto. If I must.
Other flavors they had: stracciatella, spumoni, chocolate, hazelnut, green tea, saffron, banana walnut, blood orange, mango, strawberry, vanilla bean, dulce de leche, espresso, mocha chip, mint chip... I promise I didn't study that array too hard. I didn't make flashcards, at least. -

I came wanting to try their green tea shaved ice, but they ran out of ingredients for it all. :(
Apparently, they're known for their dessert waffles, but I resorted to my choice of gelato instead. The small size is plenty for one person as you get the option of two scoops of two flavors. I chose the green tea and strawberry- a good combination together. Their green tea gelato tastes like green tea and is thick in flavor. Their most popular is cookies and cream, but I thought it was just mediocre. -

As a resident of Mountain View, I'd rather support local business. This one doesn't seem to want to stay in business.
This place seems to be never open. My wife and I have tried 4 times in the past month to visit this place. Each time it was closed. We tried a week night at 9 pm, Sunday at 4 pm, Saturday at 5 pm, and Sunday at 5 pm. The first time it was open, but they seems so unprepared that they couldn't even fill the orders of the 3 person party before us. The second time, the sign said open, and the lights were on, but the doors locked and nobody was in sight. The third time, the entire place was deserted even though it was well within their hours of operation. No sign, no note. The last time we arrived the lights were off and doors closed. As we waited in car waiting to see where to go next, and employee rushed to turn on the lights and unlock the door.
They seem to be out of stock for everything. The party who ordered before us tried to get the fruit shaved ice and was informed that they'll have to wait because he needs to cut up the food first. When we went, they were out of all frozen yogurt, all berry, and there was only a spoonful of green tea left. A lot of the gelato flavors were out. When we asked for napkins, the attendant pointed to an empty bin in front of the cashier. Upon telling him that it's empty, he grabbed some paper towels for us.
We ended up getting some gelato. It was okay. Wasn't that bad, but if I wanted gelato, I'd rather get it from a much better gelato place a few blocks down Castro. They actually have service there and fresh gelato. The prices are much better there too.
It was disappointing that the "shaved ice" was nothing more than shave ice + a scoop of gelato with some fruit on top. The reviews made it seem more similar to a real Taiwanese or Korean shaved ice.
tl;dr: We went to get shave ice. The place was always closed. When we got there, nothing was in stock except overpriced gelato. -

I love Dan! The owner is one of nicest people I have ever met. The atmosphere is really calm and their gelato is very good!
Love it:) -

I'm a fan of their food and gelato. The service; amazing. It's the kind of place where they recognize your face after a few visits and sometimes give you little freebies or extras.
Some of the food is probably in the three to four star range, but a few items hit a solid 5-stars (the veggie pizza with artichokes and the grilled onion burger are my jam). Gelato seems amazing here too, but I'm no connoisseur. Pretty amazing what you get for the price too.
I'm going with 4 stars to set lower expectations. Expect your expectations to be pleasantly surpassed though (and check in to see what condition your condition is in). -

Awesome Italian Club sandwich! Very tasty. The bread was fresh. Came with french fries too. All for just $6. Only problem was I was too full from the sandwich and fries to order any gelato for desert.

Have eaten at Gelayo Gusto a handful of times. Its been a while since Ive eaten here and I was hungry so I went for it. Not super impressive to me. I remember the hamburger meat tasting better than it did. Liked the toppings on the burger and the fries were not bad. Decent food that's reasonablely priced. Not bad at all.

I love how the waffle for the waffle dessert was made til crispy! Even melted gelato didnt make it soggy!!! The gelato itself was smooth and amazingly delicious! Ill definitely be back to try out more flavors!
The lady was super nice. She told us to ring the bell on the counter next time for help when theres no one around to help. -

After much rave from my friends, I finally got to try this place out. As we were getting there, our friends who arrived first said the person who is supposed to be working today didn't show up so the owner was gonna shut down. For a moment there, my heart dropped but luckily, our friend Turner knew the owner real well and he kept it open for us. Special service foreals.
We got the "turner special" with white raspberry ice cream and fruit pebbles with some drizzle of raspberry sauce!!!! So so so so delicious that I could not put to words.
We shared 3 between the 7 of us. Next time, I'm having that shiz to mahself yo! Dnish, the owner is an amazingly sweet person! They also deliver now too!. What what! -

I used to live nearby, and we went here so much so that the employees remembered our names. When I was a regular about 3 years ago, they had excellent customer services: an Asian lady who was always studying Japanese was the nicest person ever, and a Latino guy was very friendly. Most importantly, their frozen yogurt was so good. I was literally addicted to their original with mochi and mango toppings. There were always several people in the store, and I missed this place a lot when I was out of the country for a couple of years.
Around 5pm on Tusday, the 19th of July, my family and I visited this place for a quick bite. There were only my car and a black VW Jetta in the parking lot. We went in the store, and what I saw was a young woman with long black hair about to devour her sandwich. She was clearly annoyed that we came in because she literally threw her plate on the back counter and did not even say a word to us. We ordered a cheese burger and a hot dog. My husband paid in his credit card, and again this woman threw his card back to him. She was so rude that I had to laugh.
The older guy who is probably the owner came out with the food. He was very nice and actually checked how we were doing a few times. Food was pretty good, but the awful service by the register woman sort of ruined the whole experience.
Later I found out that the ownership has changed in the last few years. No wonder so many things have changed for the worse.
The register woman was holding her iPhone + her Jetta key (I am a former Jetta owner so I know), so I am 100% sure that her car was the other car in the parking lot. If you drive into this place and see a black Jetta, my advice is to avoid the place and save yourself from her annoying attitude.
Oh one more thing, they seem to be perpetually out of the mochi topping, which is my favorite. They have a container with the label, but it is just empty. -

YES! This place rawks.
I've come to learn that there is no life for the night owl, outside of their home or local Dennys. I was hanging out with Val S. in Palo Alto when our cafe closed and we were forced out promptly at 11 pm. But where else would we get shelter and a snack and free wifi at this hour?
11 pm is much too early for a night roamer like myself. And the City of Palo Alto shuts down around 10:30 pm so 11 pm was pushing it. Luckily, we Yelp App-ed the heck out of yogurt/coffee/boba places within a 10 mile radius that were "open now."
That's when Gelayo Gusto came to our rescue. With less than an hour til their closing time, we deliberated for a bit before rushing over, having to exit and enter the freeway once on the way to bypass night time construction (damn that stuff). We entered, triumphantly with 20 minutes to spare. We were on a mission and we accomplished it thanks to Gelayo and the nice owner who stayed open just slightly past 12 am.
I hope to come back, at a more decent hour, to get some yogurt and have time to enjoy it. Thanks for staying open late, Gelayo! -

I came here expecting so much.. considering some of the really good reviews.... I left not pleased. I expected so much more but what I got just tasted ordinary and nothing special.... I had the chocolate mint and pistachio... both were eh... I got to try the hazelnut... it was also just eh...
I most likely would not come back.... because there's so many other gelato places..... and this place just didn't attract my taste buds.. :( -

Decided to order through http://grubhub.com to truly enjoy a long week. I decided to really survey the menu so i ordered the Teriyaki Burger, Italian Deli Sandwich, and a chicken ceasar salad.
First off let me say i read a couple reviews about late delivery times; not for me. They quoted me 1 hour, it was 1850, and the food got to me at 1935.
Prices are reasonable and the food was tasty.
The Teriyaki Burger had a delicious chard taste to it, just like you get off a traditional grill. The sauce was just enough with just a little dripage. Will definately order again...maybe fries next time ?
The sandwich was okay. Looked like something i would have made at home. They can definately do a better job with this. This is why they get minus 1 star.
The ceasar salad was simple and tasty. Crisp romain lettuce sliced with grilled strips of chicken. Standard ceasar sauce. Recommend it if you want to go healthy. -

Gelayo Gusto is a family owned gelato shop. I've been here a few times now, and it's now my favorite place to go for a late night snack.
They have a good selection of flavors: Cookies and Cream, Pistachio, Chocolate, Green Tea, Butter Pecan, Tony Spumoni, Banana Walnut, Strawberry, Coconut, Espresso, Hazelnut, Mint Chip, Tiramisu, Dolce Deleche, White Chocolate Raspberry, Vanilla Bean and Mocha Chip.
They come in 5oz- $3.75, 8oz- $5.75, and 13 oz- $7.50.
You can also opt for sorbet: Blood Orange, Black Cabernet, Raspberry and Mango.
One topping is $1, two toppings are $1.50 and three toppings are $2.
They also offer shaved ice and snacks like burgers, steaks, sandwiches, and salads. -

You're kidding me, right? This place has been open for 3 years but so tucked away that I had no idea it even existed. Right around the corner is the busy restaurant-heavy Castro St. Great eating area.
I went with a friend for a late night bite, and I'm happy to report this place is worth checking out! For all you late night munchers: this place open until midnight.
Gelato (Hazelnut) was only ok, but the LARGE WAFFLE that we ordered came piled with fruits, whipped cream, nuts.... Everything was FRESH.
Their veggie burger was generic veggie burger, but stacked with cheese, fresh veggies, and sesame bread. French fries were fresh.
Nice seating, looks awful from the outside, but thankfully everything inside was good. Service was good, owner was very friendly.
Definitely coming back again. -

Gelayo Gusto is easily accessible, ample parking and wasn't busy, even on a Saturday night.
We got the shaved ice berry bowl. Very fresh, and lots of fruit over ice with a scoop of strawberry gelato on top.
The small size ($7) was enough for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids).
I would go again, very good. However not like the Hawaiian shaved ice my kids like at Banana Crepe. But this was by far more nutritious at Gelato Gusto.
Didn't try the food but there was a menu of burgers and pizza. -

I am standing at the register, as I have been for the past ten minutes. if there were not two other people in here, I would think they were closed. Even though the gelato looks melted and like it's been out for a while, I would still like to order and be on my way. The other person in line went back to the kitchen to see of anyone was intending on helping us, and came back with no avail. Not too sure what's going on with this place.
Someone finally came out who very obviously has no idea what to do, and gave me an awkward scoop of blood orange gelato. It is a strange consistency and kind of tastes like plastic. Had I eaten my five dollar bill, I am sure I would have been more satisfied.
To be perfectly honest, I have absolutely no idea how this place stays open. I will not be back unless I want to play a cruel joke on someone. -

Original frozen yogurt with strawberries, kiwi and blueberries. The kiwi was not ripe. It tasted more tart than my froyo and was crunchy! The other fruits were just okay. My original yogurt was watery and too sweet for my liking (I like it more tart).
Boyfriend had the espresso gelato which was pretty strong in flavor and kind of bitter from the coffee. It seemed kind of melty, but he liked it.
I am sad to say that this didn't satisfy my froyo craving. I should have went to Pinkberry instead. -

Came here around 11 pm for some sweets. It's nice because they open until midnight. The place was neat and clean with nice.decors.
I tried the dolche de leche which was a little to sweet after a bit. I also had the cookie n creme which I enjoyed more then the other. I paid $3.75ish for a small cup.
Service wasn't great but hey, I wouldn't want to be there either that close to midnight.
I would come back if i have some late night cravings. -

They deliver food
They deliver ice cream or gelato with food
If you want to order enough ice cream that would cost the same amount as food AND ice cream, sorry you are out of luck. You have to order food with it. Ridiculous. I really don't understand the logic. You are still making the same amount of money, if not more.
Thanks Gelayo Gusto for ruining what could have been the most awesome "get well soon" post tonsil surgery gift.
Makes NO sense, none at all.
Edit to add: Pizzera Piana DOES deliver just ice cream in case you ever find yourself in a pinch! -

Special back-to-school discount on froyo: $2.50 for a small.
Gelayo Gusto's froyo is quite tasty. Good tart yogurt flavor and icy but smooth texture. The gelato is ok. Interesting flavors (roasted peanut fudge = YUM) but everything seemed kinda old-- there was a weird melty/sticky "film" over each of the flavors. A small gelato (up to 2 flavors) will cost you ~$3.50.
I'd come for the froyo and skip the gelato in the future. -
Review from Farrah F.
This place offers a whole lot of different options. o_O I wouldn't normally expect a gelato place to also offer pizza, burgers, coffee, shaved ice, etc. But it does. :O I got a small size mango and blood orange. I was a fan of the blood orange, but the taste of the mango wasn't quite to my liking (it could just be personal preference though). A small is $3.75, although my friend is super-cool, so he treated me. :O I also tried the cookies & cream one he got and it was pretty awesome. :D
They also have frozen yogurt, and although they have a lot of choices for toppings, there didn't seem to be a whole lot of any of them left. I'm not quite sure if it was because they'd just run out or anything.
Overall, pretty good. :] I probably should've gotten samples first, but no worries. -

I like the food here. All the gelato I've had has been great and I like the burgers and chicken sandwiches. I also appreciate the late hours occasionally.
The problem I have with the place is the consistantly lousy service. I stood at the counter for more than five minutes with no help until I finally got frustrated and stuck my head in the kitchen to say hello. If there had not been a few people in eating, I would have thought the place was closed. This wasn't the first time they kept me waiting like this.
The people who work there are often a bit on the rude side. They also refuse to combine the frequent diner cards which seems very cheap to say the least. The worst is that they often seem to be out of the hamburgers they have on special advertised in the window. Why do they leave a sign up advertising a special if they seemingly are always out of it. Makes me feel like just taking down their false advertising myself or putting a big red circle with a line through it. I aint afraid of no false advertising and its not like they are watching the counter anyway.
At least three times in the past two months I asked for the same advertised special and they replied they don't have it in stock. A well managed business would offer you the regular hamburger at the special rate or do something but not this place. It also seems pretty basic to ask someone what they want on their burger instead of just automatically putting everything on it.
I do like the food and live nearby so I will go back occasionally but if they just had a clue about service I would probably go more often. These people need to go take a management 101 class. -

If you're looking for a gelato or shaved ice place, look no further. It's hard to fill a late night craving, especially when you're pregnant. This place is open late for those late night cravings. The shaved ice is DELICIOUS! It's like a mix between Hawaiian shaved ice and Filipino halo-halo. YUMMY! I just moved to Mountain View and I'm glad I was able to find this place...thanks to yelp! They also serve pizza here, but it's not on their menu online.
Try the Shaved Ice. You won't be sorry. -

Came here because we wanted gelato and it's open until midnight even in the rain.
Very nice people. I always get fruit flavors because I'm lactose haha. Lots of fruit flavors - mango was really good. Also got strawberry.. that was so good!
They have lots of food there too that I definitely want to try. It's decor is really bubbly. Kind of reminds of Austin Powers. -

Conveniently open late for night prowlers like myself. I'm always off work late or too busy to grab a treat earlier in the day, so this is definitely one way to impress me. I usually go during the late evenings so everything is a little bare and the store is dark itself but I enjoy it like that. I'm not much of a crowd surfer anyways.
I've heard of the dessert waffles and how great they tasted but apparently they don't make em or have them prepared everyday. Visited twice (got gelatos both times) but still no waffle. Finally the girl working the counter, who's family owns the place, promised us a waffle the next weekend. She kept her promise and I finally got myself their dessert waffle. My friend and I attacked it in 10minutes and it was great. The gelato is excellent too, you won't be disappointed. Haven't tried anything else on the menu but the reviews think highly of the other products.
Nice quiet place to relax after a long day of work or a long day of fun. Finish it off with some cool dessert. The girl working there, friendly and sweet. Bit pricey for the amount on my half which knocks down a star unfortunately, but it was never a big concern. I'll be back, for sure. -

A dessert place that open until midnight on weekdays. How cool is that? They have everything from gelato and froyo to crepes, sandwiches, pizzas and coffee. Very diverse menu. The ambiance is cozy and homey. They have comfortable sofa and chairs. Waitstaff was very friendly.
Tried their froyo and sample some of their gelato. Neither were spectacular. I was a bit disappointed at the limited selection of froyo toppings. Overall I would say this is an amazing place to hang out but probably not a place I will come just for the food. -

The green tea ice cream here is bursting with rich green tea flavor, almost like a green tea reduction of richness. Weird service, no one was at the counter and the door was open when it was freezing outside. I guessed it was to save energy on keeping the ice cream case cold -- if you find out why they leave the door open when it's 50 out, let me know :).

Forgive me, Gelato Classico, as I almost betrayed you.
3 stars for the regular (tart) froyo. Nothing to rave about. It's too icy for me. Pinkberry made oddly strange...meaning worse. I miss the smooth, creamy tart froyo at Flurt and hope that they could open a branch here in the Bay Area. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
4 stars for the gelato, though I haven't tried many flavors yet. Smooth and sweet, as gelato should be. Well, actually, a bit too sweet for me.
I'd like to round it up to 4, but I can't stand the male servers here. Please be nice. -

HOW AN INTERVIEW FOR YOGURT SWIRLER POSITION MIGHT GO DOWN:
Gelayo Guy ("GG"): "Why do you want to work for Gelayo Gusto?"
Me: "I don't. I just want free yogurt. One for the customer, one for me. One for customer, one for me. What kind of shrinkage provisions do you have in your employee contracts?"
GG: *blinks*
Me: "Haha, did I say that out loud? What I meant was that I'll accept ounces of yogurt swirls as a legitimate form of compensation."
EXCERPT TAKEN FROM LIKELY REJECTION LETTER:
"...while we admire your fanaticism-bordering-clinical-addiction, we regretfully decline your application at this time as the steep number of ounces your appetite requires astonishingly does not fall within our budget or inventory for that matter..."
Ah, 'twas was but a pipe dream. In the meantime, I'll continue to fork over $5 and change for a medium 8oz + bing cherries + strawberries + fresh squishy mochi. And no, I don't share. Pinkberry Stanford, you've got some competition! Very generous with toppings (thank you!), sweet fruit and Gelayo's stocked with cool paper media like Dwell, InStyle and WIRED. Fro-yo girl here. The kitchen is under renovation so they're not offering soups, salads and sandwiches. I'm sad that I didn't get to try the spicy noodle soup. In my original review, I gave them an extra star for having so many food options. I'm taking that star back.
Looks like they always offer two types of tart fro-yo: original and blueberry. I had a cup of their original tart fro-yo which I still like (icy, tangy) but the mochi balls weren't as good as I remembered. They were soft and chewy but also stuck together in large clumps. The mango pieces were fresh but not ripe yet. They were generous with toppings and the fruit toppings that they had looked fresh.
I tried a green tea cookie before which was stale, so I'm suspicious of the cakes and cookies there. They weren't even playing the OC music during my recent visit. Hopefully once the kitchen remodeling is finished, they'll come out with a new menu and be worthy of another star.
You know you love me. X0 X0 fro-yo girl.Listed in: Fro-Yo Girl Speaks, Asian dessert shops, Free Food & Wi-Fi Peninsula

Oooooooooooo. Pinkberry wanna-be? In MOUNTAIN VIEW? Be still, my heart (and tummy). Man but Fraiche does have a hold on me. It's still my fav! But perhaps it's more about the toppings than the yogurt. I honestly think if someone did a Gelayo/Cafe Aroma/Harmony/Fraiche blindfolded taste test on me... I'd fail. Fraiche might be a teensy bit creamier than the others. But either way - with Gelayo's late hours:
Sun-Thurs: 11am-12am
Fri-Sat: 11am-2am
this place gets high marks! And they have mochi - more high marks! And my generous serving of yogurt with 2 toppings was only $4!
Gelayo isn't JUST a yogurt place. They also have:
sandwiches (a good selection)
salads & soups (just a few choices)
gelato (a dozen or more flavors)
shaved ice (1 person & 2 person)
dessert pastries (macaroons, tarts, small cakes, cream puffs, cookies)
waffles (with fruit or gelato)
hot/iced coffee (no boba)
...but the yogurt is what I went to try. They offer "original" and "blueberry" - not sure if they'll plan to swap out the flavored yogurt for different ones or not, but today it was blueberry. Prices are as follows for Original:
5oz: $2.50
8oz: $3.50
13oz: $5.50
and Blueberry is $ .25 more for each size.
The yogurt had a nice tart taste but was a little on the icy side. Not like you'd crunch down on ice pieces but just not an overly smooth, creamy yogurt texture.
1 topping: $1.00
2 toppings: $1.50
3 toppings: $2.00
and they really had a lot of choices:
5-6 different fresh fruits (cut into tiny bits)
Cap'n Crunch
Fruity Pebbles
mochi!!
yogurt drops
nuts
granola
I forget what else now but there were more!
No honey, but they did have small packets like one would squeeze into a cup of tea. It worked but... just wasn't great honey.
The shop is bright and clean and cheerful. It's right across the street from Frankie, Johnnie & Luigi Too and just next to Taco Bell.
If I want a refreshing, light, fruity, creamy cup of yogurt, fruit, granola and good honey sometime before 10:30pm... I'll probably still go to Fraiche (it's the same distance from me.) But if I'm craving the same thing at midnight - Gelayo Gusto with mochi at a couple $'s less will still make me a very happy girl!Listed in: It's a Beautiful Day in my…, A Little Hooked on Yogurt

Awww Gelayo...why were you so empty today at noon on a Thursday??? Kitchen under reno so no sandwiches or anything warm, but I was there for the tart yogurt.
They do blueberry tart right!! No weird aftertaste. The shaved ice, holy #&@!% it's gone up, to $7 for a small and a $9 for a large?! OMG that's like a quart of yogurt at Yogurtland! Is ice really that expensive?
But their little 5oz...packed to the brim with a blueberry original swirl and a boatload of fresh, ripe kiwi was only $4.00. Loved it!!!!
People please go to Gelayo so they don't look so barren at noon!! Their tart is pretty darn good, better than a lot of them out there.Listed in: Oh, Sweet Tooth., All Because of Yelp., Sweet Tart Love

Because there was no soy gelato or frozen yogurt, we decided to share a small bowl of green tea shaved ice, which was $5. The cute girl behind the counter assured us that the small serving would be plenty for us to share. P.S. They also have sandwiches and pastries. And free Wi-fi! So you might catch me yelping on my laptop here sometime!Listed in: Frozen yogurt, you melt in my…
