I love this joint.
I love sushi and I love Hollywood, so it works for me.
Yeah it is kind of scene-y but what can you do?
It's gorgeous. Great location. I love that the crazy KidRobot-looking shelves behind the bar reach up to the ceiling, and that they're always playing either bad kung-fu movies, or bad Japanese game shows on the TVs.
Not only do I eat here every couple of months or so, but I take a lot of my friends who are visiting to Geisha as well. Because it's sparkly on the inside, plays great music, and has gorgeous Tokyo murals. The food is delicious and well-priced, the service is great (and pretty), and there are GEISHAs walking around which is fabulous.
Love. It.
Might go again tonight.
xoxo
This is a total hollywood scene. I definitely recommend Koi over The geisha house anytime. Why?
- Better Service
- More intimate feeling.
- Did I mention better service?
Well, the good thing was when I was dining here, I had a great company with me. Therefore, even with the horrible service, I really enjoyed myself.
Recommendation:
- King Crab Legs- actually has a lot of meat.
Went on a Friday night. Busy as expected. Live DJ and fairly dressy crowd. Feels like a dance club meets sushi house in an all out high energy meal.
The food was excellent. Really loved the fact that all the rolls are made with soy paper by default! They also have a good sake selection. Music can be a little loud if your going there just to eat a nice meal, but if your planning to go out after dinner, it's a great starting point. Especially since there open really late!
Typical LA sushi place, workers were very entertaining. I personally loved it. It was my friend's birthday and we were about 20 people, food was served in about 20 minutes which is fine not bad. Sushi wasn't anything amazing, i would go for Sushi Kai's sushi =].
This place is perfect for a date!
Geisha house? The last time I checked a geisha was a lovely Japanese woman who was basically running around trying to please men. I believe they still exist in Japan and they don't allow American men to visit them b/c Americans are idiots in the Japanese eyes and we can't handle these types of high class whore houses. Is a high class whore house a paradox? Ok, I'm getting off topic here, but when exactly did a Geisha become a stoned 22 year old Caucasian male? If I go somewhere that is a themed restaurant I expect the theme to upheld somewhat. When you go to Benihana you expect the chef to be Japanese, not some Mexican dude. Geisha House had hardly any Asian people working there and when I walked in the Lakers were on a big screen tv by the bar. Sushi was decent but seriously, I wanted to see some pretty women walk around in Kimonos and not have some dude that just hot boxed his Corolla on his lunch break taking my order.
Fun to go with a group and hit up Hollyweird afterwards I guess but that's more indicative of the people you're with and anticipation of a fun night. Don't expect to see Ziyi Zhang and her beautiful cohorts here. Geishas? Hello where are you? Lame.
The rolls were awesome. My husband wont eat nori so the fact that all rolls are made with soy paper, rice paper or no paper makes ordering easy. It was really loud but the atmosphere was awesome. I felt very rushed by the servers even though we had a 10:30m reservation.
Valet: Very expensive. $10
Food: I went on Valentine's Day, so I disappointingly didn't get to enjoy everything on the menu. However 6 out of the 7 things I ordered was amazing.
Service: Our waitress was good. She ever helped us located a bar to go to after dinner. She made one mistake, which was to order one of our sushi rolls, but nothing major.
The only memorable things about this place were the Frightened Geisha sushi, and how damn expensive everything was! You're paying for the decor, atmosphere, and the hot "geisha" girls more so than for a culinary experience. Out of the sushi and robata grill stuff we got, the best thing was the Frightened Geisha. The drinks were decent. I had a Geisha's Kosmo that wasn't too strong, but still gave me a buzz. The other people in my party didn't like their drinks, though.
If you can afford overpriced food, by all means come; if you're a normal person, do not come here unless a friend from out of town really wants a Hollywood experience and Katsu-ya isn't an option. I saw Clifton Collins Jr. here (his name isn't familiar, but you've seen him before!), so you're bound to see some type of C-lister if you come often enough!
I recently tried Geisha House for the first time, and I wish someone would have told me to go there sooner. We had a number of the items on their menu. We started out with the garlic edema me. This was one of the main highlights of the meal. They had the perfect amount of soy sauce, garlic and salt on them, and were very tender. Then we tried the Beef Robata with asparagus which was also very good. Their sushi was pretty average. The best roll that we had ordered was the red rocket. We also had the cowboy roll and the geisha kiss. I'd recommend checking this place out.
On a side note, this is a good place for random celebrity sitings. Does anyone remember the owner from that terrible TV show called Sunset Tan? He was there with some random blonds with huge tits.
This review is defnitely overdue.
My cousins and I were in town for a bachelorette weekend in Hollywood/Los Angeles. We decided to try this place since it was on one of those to list things to try when in the area so we tried it.
Coming into the restaurant is a bit blinding since it's really dark. There's a ton of red which for me is blinding in itself. It was really crowded on the Friday night that we arrived and there were tons of people in the waiting area and that bar. But, of course, us being the women we are, managed to get our group bachelorette shot out of the way and take some pictures while we were at it.
When we finally got a seat (yes even after having reservations) we were seated on the bottom floor near the kitchen area. So, of course we were easily forgotten. I don't even remember our server's name but he wasn't very helpful. When we looked through the menu we each ordered something from the menu and shared all the plates. We ordered some sushi, some seafood, some meat, etc. The meals were good but boy were they pricey. During dinner we manager to find some geishas roaming around the restaurant which we thought was pretty cool. Other than that, there's really not much to the restaurant. The seating is pretty crowded and jam packed like sardines in a can.
After dinner, we were offered dessert and I ordered the fried bananas with ice cream...my fave. It's pretty hard to mess these up. The dessert was good but of course I wanted more...which is always the case.
All in all, the service sucked but the food was okay. If we weren't seated way in the back near the kitchen I think we would have been better off. After all, who wouldn't want to serve 7-8 young lovely ladies...especially on a bachelorette weekend trip down south...obviously it wasn't the servers at the Geisha house.
This is one my favorite places in Hollywood because the vibe is always fun and the food is delicious. Whenever I come here, I start at the bar with a drink while we wait for a table and the bartenders are super nice. No attitude here. The decor is beautiful and its centrally located to many of the hottest spots along Hollywood Blvd.
LOL.
This place is slore central. If you like being part of a ho-train with your box hanging out of your dress... you'll fit in here.
The hostess was a total bitch. The service was beyond terrible... We even switched tables because a ho train of 17 came in and stole our waitress. After 30 min of waiting for a drink... ugh.
Yeah, I'll go to Pavillions grociery store for sushi before I go back here.
The food? The lamb was insane, but it wasn't much.
The waitress tried to give us some jungle juice in a shot glass, as a sympathy drink? .... nasty.
Went back after not having been for years. Overall had a pleasant experience.
Highly recommend the 'Naked Roll' if you like scallop. However the scallop sashimi wasn't anything special...werid.
The best thing I had last night though was the 'Rock Shrimp Tempura.' It's served with a side of aioli dipping sauce that is to die for.
The service was great. I was out with a lovely lady and ordered some wine. They ran out but the waitress suavely recommended a similar wine (that was in he same price range). Very subtle yet good service. WIsh I could afford to go back more!
Dinner for 2 was $126...but we went all out, bottle of white, jug of sake, appetizers and 3 dishes.

I can't review the food or drinks, as I didn't have any. We came to Geisha House because they normally have a rooftop lounge for dancing!! BUT.. not tonight. :( So we only stayed a bit to use the restroom, figure out where we were going next and talk to the ladies up front to see if there was any dancing nearby. They recommended Les Deux down the street, within walking distance. I don't even think we ended up at Les Deux.. it was some nightclub with an "e" in the front. E Nightclub?? I dunno.. I don't frequent LA all that much.
But, can we say three star night all the way?? Everything was pretty mediocre from A to Z.. to .. .. .. E. The music at "E" was good (top 40's), but the crowd and venue was whatevs. Also, $20 cover for an unimpressionable scene.
Geisha House had a good vibe, crowd and ambiance. It's too bad there was no dancing that night. I would definitely come back again to try the food and I would definitely make it a point to check out their Santa Ana location.
LOVE LOVE LOVE This place! They have the best selection in sushi rolls! I particularly love the "Dragon Lips" roll. A great variety of Sake and a rockin' atmosphere! It can be a little loud for my taste, but it's definitely a great scene with great food. Service has always been great too!
Nice place, best new restaurant I've tried recently. Atmosphere 5 stars, food 4 stars, service 2 stars. Neat place to visit with a friend, I love the bar, and the main dining room. Glad I read prior reviews, they all tell you what to order. Food presentations were very nice, liked the Albacore Carpaccio, nice flavors, and heat on one of the sushi rolls we tried, sorry can't remember the name! Service was very slow...worked out as I got to spend lots of time chatting with my friend. Would definetly repeat. A review I read said there are Geisha Girls here? Didn't see any...although I was sitting across from one!!
The Geisha House decor and vibe are intriguing, but I was utterly disappointed in the food. At the end of the night I remember thinking, "So THIS is what everyone's talking about?"
Be prepared to spend money at the crowded trendy bar/entrance area waiting for a table, whether you have reservations or not.
I went about a year and a half ago and don't think I would go back unless I was with someone who was just dying to go.
i love this place!!!!! I use to go there like twice a month the waiters are always hot!!! Oh and the tempura rock shrimp is the best of the best! Oh and theres a bar for you alcoholics!
Love it.. I go all the time.. Sad that Dominic, the manager is gone, but it is the place to be on weekend before going out clubbin
5 stars for the AMBIANCE
5 stars for the music the DJ was playing
3 stars for the FOOD
3 stars for the PRICE
Bottomline: besides the ambiance, the food was good but overpriced.
Some of the goodies we ordered:
- the Pacific tuna w/ crispy white onion (yummy)
- the lightly battered basa-catfish (good)
- black cod (good, but not great)
- the "demon slayer" sake (smooth criminal)
- shishito peppers
- kobe prime ribeye steak (pretty good, BUT i've had better and cheaper elsewhere)
- Geisha Lips (a refreshing roll. too bad I don't like cucumbers)
- Red Samurai (good, BUT I'm not a fan of spicy tuna. the grape tomatoes were good though!)
- tuna over crispy rice: good.
To start off my experience, I walked past Shenae Grimes (90210 star) which definitely tied in the whole LA experience for me.
We made a reservation for a Friday night at 7:30 and there was no wait. In fact there were a few empty tables throughout the whole night, surprisingly, so don't worry about waiting, but I would recommend making a reservation.
Buttttt,
1. The food was delicious, but extremely overpriced. My sister, my 2 friends, and I ordered 2 appetizers, 2 sushi rolls, edamame, and dessert and the bill came out to $100 without tip
2. I highly recommend the octopussy roll
3. If you want to get seated by a geisha, make a reservation for 8 or later
4. The service/cleanup is extremely attentive and nice, but it took a while for our watier to notice us - however, they are extremely nice and give good recommendations for the menu
5. The tempura fried brownie is a must try!
5 stars for sentimental value, 3 stars to give a fair & honest review.
been to geisha at least 30 times over the last couple years, and while the quality and the novelty wore off long ago, i love this place for all the great times i had here and the people i got to share them with.
i still consider the decor one of my favorites in hollywood. the intense red hallway, the white squares behind the bar, asian swatches that line the walls in the main dining area, the twig-entwined booth, and even the gaudy multi-level pink fireplace. oh, the memories.
ok, down to business: the albacore carpaccio is probably the most popular dish, and for good reason. even though they don't make it as well as they used to (doesn't seem as fresh anymore), it's still a crowd pleaser with its jalapeno sauce and crispy onions. my friends who fear raw fish actually enjoy this dish.
shishito peppers - i've been to a lot of sushi places and no one does them like geisha. they really are the best.
i love their oyster shooters and miso cod. and even though i get my ass beat every time i mention it, the kobe is quite nice.
otherwise the food is mediocre. and lately the place is wrought with slutty 20 somethings looking for a sugar daddy, which has dramatically changed the geisha experience. too bad really.
Really the food isn't that great but if you're looking for a nice place for a group to go and have dinner and drinks its perfect, and the location is great, right in hollywood.
Their rolls aren't the best for sushi lovers but it gets its job done.
Drinks are definitely more appetizing, try the lychee martini.
Make sure if you have a larger group ask for a table near the bar upstairs and more of a romantic ambience ask for downstairs or a room
- the sushi was ok, not spectacular, but ok.
- the calamari tastes like bland corn pops, awful.
- we went on a 50% night so we lucked out. had i paid full price for our meal i would've been much more upset. not really worth it for dinner. there are MANY other better sushi spots in LA.
- come here for a cocktail before going out on Hollywood Bl. the lounge is fun.
ASHTON KUTCHER: you need to have your staff retrained on SERVICE.
It's like they're fresh out of your PUNK'D episodes.
2stars for their food, ONLY. and it wasn't THAT great.
I'd say the best part of going to this restaurant were all the male waiters, especially ours, who was VERY cute!! They come in either tall, chiseled, or long-haired, and they all wear tight red cotton shirts that make it easy to tell that they work out.
If not that, the lively atmosphere of this place may come in second. It's good for dressing up and going out with your girlfriends.
However, the sushi is whatever. I ordered the White Samurai roll for $16, and if you go there hungry... you still will be after that.
We had reservations at 8:45 but weren't seated til 9:30 because apparently USC was having a frat party there - not that big a deal on a Friday night.
Overall, this place is whatever. 3 stars. Go more for Hollywood and the atmosphere than the food. Also, valet parking only, and it costs $10 bucks.
Was taken on a great date here.
Plus, the drinks are definitely not diluted to the point of uselessness. Thanks for that, GH.
Want to sweep a sushi-loving girl off her feet? Go here.
Now I think these high priced sushi dishes ARE worth paying for!
I went here for a Bachelorette Party dinner, and the wonderful event planner for this (best friend to the bride) had us order off the menu and pay before had, So when we got there all we had to worry about was buying the bride-to-be drinks all night!
Geisha House made that dinner so easy and painless for our large group... so long we didn't go switching seats on the poor waitress. The service was the best! They had 2 other B-Parties too, so they totally know what they're doing.
I had the...
Frieghten Geisha: Spicy Tuna And Cucumber Topped With Torched Salmon, Tobiko, Spicy Cream Sauce, Eel Sauce
Over the Rainbow: Crab, Avocado, Cucumber, Topped With Salmon, Yellowtail, Tuna, Albacore, And Shrimp
...and miso soup.
I also had some of the Red Rocket (Shrimp Tempura. Crab Topped With Spicy Tuna And Avocado, Eel Sauce And Tempura Flakes), Call 9-1-1 Spicy Tuna (Spicy Tuna And Cucumber), Chicken Karage (fried chicken poppers with sweet/spicy sauce), and some Ocean Dragon (Shrimp Tempura And Crab, Topped With Fresh Water Eel, Avocado, Gold Tobiko, And Eel Sauce)
All super super delish! And of course I stuffed myself!
And I found out there is one in Santa Ana I SO will be yelping in the near future!
Horrible horrible service!
I came here for a friend's birthday and we had the worst service EVER. First, the night was perfectly fine, but when a larger table was seated in the same area, our waitress completely ignored us. Also, when receiving our meal, a couple of people ordered a side of rice with their order. We tried to flag down our waitress, but she was no where to be found. Instead of waiting, they slowly ate what they had ordered and tried to flag someone down. They took so long that my friends finished their food and FINALLY their rice came.
Getting the check was a whole other story, but we ended up wasting about 30 minutes to an hour waiting for her to come give us our check.
Other than the horrible service, the place was gorgeous and ambiance was nice, but the food wasn't all that great, especially for the price. At the end, I didn't really get what all the hype was about...
It depends what your intent is...
If you're here for the food, particularly the sushi, I wouldn't suggest it. It wasn't bad, it was ok. I'm not from the downtown, so just to come here to eat would not be worth the insane traffic.
If you got guest from out of town, then this place would be ideal. The restaurant has a nice décor, but I've seen sexier. The staff was friendly, no complaints here.
Overall, just average. Not a fan, not a hater.
Gosh what can I say being the #448 yelper on Geisha House.
Hmmm... Came here a year ago with locals while visiting LA for 4th of July weekend. We had reservations... BUT we still had to wait 2 hours to be seated! The longest wait ever! (*_*)
Food was okay... we had a big party and ordered a bunch of stuff. I don't know how much the bill was but I'm sure it was over $200.
Parking was terrible too... I think it was valet? or self parking. Don't remember, I just know that it was crowded in and outside.
I don't know if I'll come back here again after my one and only experience... being horrible.
Besides the nice setup and geisha girls walking around... this place doesn't stand out when I'm craving japanese...
Next!
i just recently wet to the Geisha House after being away from the LA scene. After going there after awhile the Giesha House has turned into a tourest attraction. It was no longer a hip places to go with my girlfriends. The wait is forever, and trying to get a seat in the bar lounge area is a hit or miss.
It's not hard to miss with the pink lighting in the front, but that's not the entrance, it's from the side. Walking through the red hallway reminds me of an old school Chinese restaurant.
The Kobe beef is a bit overrated, I had to send my plate back twice, because the cook didn't seem to know the difference between rare to medium well. We wanted ours rare, but wasn't sure if it was just sitting on the plate too long that it cooked.
My friends and I went to Geisha House for restaurant week and had a really great meal. We ate edemame, carpaccio, filet mignon, and I don't know the name of the desert. We also ordered drinks - the Hai, which has sake, strawberries and lime juice was delicious.
Food:
The food was pretty amazing!
The carpaccio had very fresh fish and was covered in a very delicious sauce we all loved.
The steak and cod were also great. I noticed there is something about sauces at Geisha House that makes them particularly good.
For desert we got a plate with a scoop of ice cream covered in caramel, a piece of cake and whipped cream covered hot chocolate in an esspresso cup (it was excellent).
Not only was the food delicious, but the plating and arrangement was very beautiful - I almost felt bad eating it.
If I weren't here for restaurant week, price would be a drawback.
The carpaccio was $18
The filet mignon was $26
It's not horribly insane, but the portions are pretty small. But like I said, the food was really good, so I would say still worth it.
Atmosphere:
Very pretty place, I loved the decor with the red tinted lights and blend of modern styling with hints of traditional Japanese design. This place is a pleasure from the minute you walk in through a hallway that looks like the path from the Fushimi Inari shrine in Japan. The tables were a bit too close together, but not a big deal.
Service:
The servers were friendly, but it did take a while before they noticed us. We ordered three meals - two of us got our entrees with no problem, but they forgot about the third one. We had to call our waitress over to ask for it, by which time the two people who got food already finished their meal. However, she was really nice about taking care of it and gave us two free shots each to compensate.
So overall experience at Geisha House was great, I will definitely come back!
Classic Back Yelp- but too memorable not to share:
I was conned into eating red meat here.
Who the eff puts filet mignon in sushi??!
My out of town friends thought this place was cool enough to throw down about 200 bucks for 4 rolls, 4 soups and a bottle of wine. Plus we got to see Lawrence Fishbourne? Or something?
Next....
This place is very hyped up, but the decor is very nice, trendy and impressive. The food itself was average, small and quite expensive. I felt i could get better quality sushi elsewhere for half the price they were charging me. I would go to this place to perhaps get a few drinks and hang out but not to have dinner.
Expensive? Yes, but there is enough going on with the creativity in the menu to the fine service and the cool decor and location to encourage a return visit from me someday.
The sake was terrific, and my group found that the best way to order was simply to have a bunch of dishes brought to the table for sharing. Standouts were the tuna carpaccio, eggplant and tempura softshell crab.
The hipster atmosphere could wear thin after awhile, but overall Geisha House delivers with good food. Maybe it's not the greatest sushi to be found in Los Angeles, but it is served with flair and attention to detail. It's a great place for a splurge with friends or clients, but definitely not a neighborhood joint to get your sushi fix from day to day.
I will never ever set foot in this place again, much less spend any money there. In fact, the one time I went, I didn't even get a drink. This review is purely based on a horrible customer service experience that I believe was racially motivated. My best friend came down from the Bay Area with her two other friends for her birthday, and her heart's desire was to have dinner at Geisha House. We had reservations at 7, and arrived at the restaurant at roughly 6:30. The girls arrived before I did, actually, and sat in the lobby talking for a good ten minutes before I walked in, and then as a group we sat in the lobby waiting to be seated for another 20 minutes. Mind you, the restaurant was completely empty. When we were seated, the hostess took us upstairs and to the back, in a completely empty section of the restaurant (the few other patrons that were in the restaurant were all seated downstairs in the central area). When my friend asked if we could have a booth, instead, the hostess stalled for a second, then decided to sit us in a booth near the other patrons. We had just been in the booth long enough to order drinks when the hostess returned and told us she would have to reseat us because the "owner's daughter" was going to be needing that particular booth. At that point, my friend decided she no longer wanted to spend her birthday there, and the hostess actually had the nerve to tell us "there's no reason to get mad". I felt like I'd walked into a restaurant in Alabama in 1965, not in 2009 Hollywood. Oh, and I'm white and I can see the racism in the situation (my three friends are all Black). And I don't really think we were the first to have this happen. As for me and everybody I know, we are boycotting the Geisha House indefinitely. They can keep their overpriced garbage, I know 100 great Sushi houses in LA that know how to treat ALL their paying customers.
Geisha is a cozy, intimate lounge/restaurant. Valet parking only. Nice decor and atmosphere. We got a table right next to the "fireplace." It was a girls' night out so we ordered lots of sushi and drinks. Some of the sushi were very good while others were ok. Service was a bit slow at times. Music permeated the whole restaurant. This would definitely be a nice place to go dancing but it was just a lounge/restaurant that evening. We had to go elsewhere for the clubbing part. We paid ~$50 each for a party of 6 so pretty pricey. They have really nice drinks.
overpriced and over-hyped. the decorations and furniture of the place is very nice however. It has a club-like, posh feeling to it.
the sushi is about average
but there is one roll that i believe is worth paying for...the dynamite roll.
I think it's the best sushi i've tasted so far in my life haha. however, It's an americanized roll, sorry to disappoint those who are hardcore-raw-fish lovers, but definitely try it. the flavor to it was awesome.
This is the most overpriced inauthentic Japanese dining establishment I have ever encountered. It is worse than the sushi places owned by Korean people that I frequent.
First of all, the sushi is overpriced and mediocre at its best. Secondly, the hosts/hostesses (usually a bitchy lone Asian girl) are stuck up and rude, even when you make reservations ahead of time and show up on time. Kindly remove the stick out of your ass. You should be ashamed to work at a place that commercializes a culture that is steeped in history, culture, and tradition.
THIRDLY and the WORST offense of all, the geishas are NOT EVEN ASIAN. Geezus just shoot me now. They honestly just looked like a bunch of white girls dressed up for Halloween. My group of friends and I were more authentic Asians than anyone at this shitty dining establishment because we were all indeed Asian. If you are going to have a "Geisha House" themed restaurant with "Geishas" at least stick to something Japanese. And playing that Hollywood piece of crap Geisha movie on a bunch of TV screens in the bar just doesn't cut it for me.
