I love this place! It gets so much press because its been on The Hills. I swear any restaurant that's on any MTV show will probably see their sales go up.
I've come here a few times for dinner and luckily I get seated in a different part of the restaurant. I've sat downstairs, upstairs over looking the bottom area, and in the back room for a larger party.
Parking is hard here because its right off of Hollywood - if you come in the early evening you might get lucky but I say valet is the easiest.
When you walk in there is this bright red hallway that is the perfect background for a photo session. Haha
This Japanese- Asian Fusion place has some yummy drinks that have Lychee in it. The bar area is so fabulous that I don't even mind waiting for my table. I ALWAYS make reservations. I don't know what chances you'll have if you don't.
Girls are in Geisha outfits here which is pretty neat. Plays in with the theme of the place.
The sushi is really yummy and for being on Hollywood its not that expensive. I always see a celebrity here- last time I sat near Wayne Brady!
They have great customer service too. I came here with a huge group and we ordered tons of stuff. They have quirky sushi rolls that have bacon and strawberry. Honestly anything that sounds kinda gross is probably out of this world. You would never think to pair it up but its so great. We ordered this squid dish and for some reason thought it would be like calamari but it was sautéed and not fried. We didn't touch it. The waiter noticed this and said you didn't like it? We were like.. it wasn't what we expected. He said no problem and took it off the bill. WOW! That is super nice!
Come here for a late dinner then you can cab or walk to your nearest club on Hollywood. What a fun night!
Geisha House should really be called GAYsha House. The restaurant breeds douche bag city central. My review probably would have been 5 stars if I was 21.. but that was MUCH long ago. So I'll give it 3.
The quality of the food actually isn't bad at all.. overpriced, but you are paying for the hot waiter to oogle at. The style of service has a a 'too cool for school' type attitude, but they got the job done. I get it, this isn't fine dining, it's spring break.
I suggest coming here if:
1. You plan on running in to "LC" from the Hills.
2. You want to get drunk off their $12 ginger, peach, lychee, cucumber-melon, unagi martini.
I went her with a group of friends and was excited to see what the hype was about. The restaurant decor and wait staff are great. Drinks are yummy too! However the sushi itself is pretty bad. We had one roll called the Surf & Turf and it was steak & lobester. However both were over cooked and it was mainly in between a chunk of rice. We had about 5-6 different rolls, and only one roll was good. Dessert is great.
I can see that this place has appeal for large groups and special occassions. Great vibe inside, however wishes it would match the food. They do have a great DJ spinning well you eat!
Came here for appetizers, drinks, and to pre-party before we checked out the local scene. I was a little disappointed as I was expecting much more from visiting their website, but as always L.A. is just a lot of hype.
The place is relatively small like most Hollywood lounges and felt cramp. We ordered the Kobe Beef Carpaccio, Toro Sashimi, Spanish Mackerel Sashimi and lots of sake and Kirin Ichiban. I'll admit the food was good, but nothing special. They almost charge Nobu prices but offer a lower quality product. Also It appeared there were many teens in this place which I don't particularly enjoy, but I guess that's an L.A. thing.
All in all it's worth experiencing and returning to.
$60 parking ticket aside, Geisha House is not a bad place for sushi and food...and maybe for some celebrity/socialite spottage.
Overpriced though...say...$18 a roll overpriced! Like other Yelpers have mentioned, I can probably get the same quality sushi for half the price elsewhere. I guess since they're on Hollywood blvd, they gotta make ends meet for their high lease. Like I said, the sushi isn't too bad...it's good but overpriced.
For a party of 6, we had a hard time hearing each other in the loud and dark restaurant. The service was okay. Oh and not like it matters, but their hostess looks like Jade from the Hills, but prettier.
Did I mention that I got a $60 parking ticket? Be careful with those metered parkings...I almost got my car towed because there were so many restrictions on parking. It might be even worth it to just pay for parking.
Had to wait 30 minutes for a table but it's ok since it was a busy Saturday night. The sushi was good...nothing exceptional.Drinks were overpriced and the service was ok.Waited 30 minutes for the rainbow roll then finally told the waiter to cancel it and bring us the cheque.
It showed up after we got the cheque so they comped it for us.
Ambience was good and we had a good time overall.
Geisha House is a Hollywood staple, so when I found myself in the area craving sushi, it seemed like the natural choice. Oh, that, and the place I wanted to go didn't work out. I got a http://restaurant.com coupon for $25 off $50 for a mere $2, so that made the meal almost affordable. My date and I had 3 rolls and some sake, and the bill was $50 or $60 after tax and tip, and that was AFTER our discount. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, and the ambiance was awesome, but I'm happy eating similar quality fish at a hole in the wall sushi joint for 1/2 the price.
Went here for my girlfriends 21st bday last night and had a reservation at 7pm but of course, we (girls) were all running late so I called to change the reservation time and they did it with no problem. I took the birthday cake (violet's bakery) to geisha house before our reservation so that i wouldn't have to lug it around all night.
We got dropped off by our limo at around 7:45pm and got seated right away in the booth that i requested (made me so happy that we got that booth) Tiffany was our server and she was awesome..she might have been a little annoyed with us at first because I was kind of drunk already but she warmed up to us. We were getting all the attention from everyone including the managers and other servers. We got a bunch of birthday shots and so i gave them a huge chunk of the cake :P
Y'all helped make my girl friend's birthday so awesome and memorable! we'll definitely go back and chill with you guys!!
and good job getting me drunk Kel! Paid for the whole bill and tipped well ayee
Went here for my 18th birthday expecting the world, only to find, that this place wasn't what I though it would be. I love the food, it is terrific! The service was not up to par with their pricing though. Also this place is cramped, very small and busy, not a relaxing environment at all. I did enjoy the decor and food, it was very trendy, but i don't think this place is what their website claims to be!
Try it once for the good sushi!
Make reservations or go some place else. I really dig this place, nice vibe, awesome music & the tempura rock shrimp is soooo good.
Went there for a friend's birthday but we didn't dine there. We were there around 9ish for a few drinks.
Difficult to find a parking as it's Hollywood... go with valet and get it over with.
The decor and mood at this place was rather nice. Very "RED", everything's red. One cool feature is mention is the half outdoor dance floor upstairs with seating area around it. If you're a smoker, this is the perfect place where you don't need to stand outside in the alley/backdoor to smoke. At the same time you can drink and check out what's going on on the dance floor. One bad thing is of course the potential cigarette burns bumping into people, I got burned by one :(
finally got to check out the scene - really hip restaurant.
it's a bit overpriced but we got 8 piece rolls for $12 and udon+veg tempura for $12 which isn't too shabby. it was yummy tho. and if you're more hungry, $3 for rice and just add some soysauce haha. the drinks were expensive tho - a bottle of Sapporo for $10 and the cheapest 400ml sake was $28. our bill came out to be around $50 per person. but i guess you're paying for the atmosphere?
one thing i really disliked is that i've been hearing there's a dance floor above but it's just a lounge, no dancing :( so we left and went to h.wood to dance away.
I went for my bday and i loved it. It's very dark in there but really nice set up. We sat upstairs and over looked the fireplace on the 1st floor. They sushi was good too.
I really like this place. The food is very good and the place is fun. Service is alright. If you are driving you must do valet parking (which is expensive) or have fun trying to find parking on your own.
We arrived a little early before our reservations but ended up waiting one hour total just to be seated. I had to go back to the hostess to "remind" her that we were here and had 8:30 reservations. I walked up to her after I saw another party get seated before us, but we were there BEFORE them??
The worst part was that we were sitting at our table for 15 minutes without anyone coming to greet us, give us water and we had no idea who our server was. The waitress (tall blonde w/long curly hair working upstairs) was supposed to be our server, but didn't bother acknowledging us at all. She was rude and we had to get another guy, James, to serve us!?! Maybe bc we weren't a table full of guys where she could milk a fat tip out of us?
The quality of the sushi was really good but the side of rice was a little on the mushy side. GOOD food, CRAPPY service. Parking is bad since it's on Hollywood Blvd. Disappointed there were no Geisha pic opportunities, especially on New Years Eve???!
Usually a place designed like the Geisha house with red walls, spectacular lighting fixtures, textured walls and amazing bars make you worry the owners may have spent too much money on the interior design and marketing that the food would suffer budget cuts. I was wrong. Although pricey, everything on the menu did not disappoint. We ordered a bunch of rolls to share, but they were so good it made you a little greedy. Remember, sharing is caring!!! For a girl's night out dinner before hitting the dance floor, it was almost perfect.
We had a http://Restaurant.com coupon to use here, so we went for it. I'd go back, but be warned;
FOOD = Great, Try the Cod
DECOR = Super trendy
PRICES = A bit high
SERVICE = Not very good (nice, but not very on the ball)
And I've heard of this happening in a variety of restaurants, so I don't think it was a coincidence: They upped the Tax slightly, to give it a higher total. Which mysteriously increased the mandatory gratuity. They blamed it on the 'confusing coupon math' but I'm fairly certain they deliberately inflated their Tax percentage. Word has it some restaurants/waiters do this to pull some extra tip money out of you. Who knows. Just read your bill carefully and don't be afraid to speak up.
Made a reservation a couple nights before, but when i got there, seems like a reservation wasn't necessary. Was seating right away, the place is very nice and cozy, the menu seems pretty varied. Service wasn't great, had to wave a couple of times to get the waiters attention. Food was surprisingly not-bad. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad. Will definitely come again.
Went for a friends birthday and it was pretty okay. Nothing that stuck out to me. Fancy bar lol.
Food was good, but pricey.....but I didn't expect anything cheap from a hpister spot. Out server was great. Decor was a little overwhelming and headache-inducing...needs to be toned down just a wee bit. Overall, though, not a bad spot.
I love love love this place!!! I always hit up this spot when I'm in SOCAL with friends. I do not recommend this restaurant on FD's (first date). The place is dark and music is playing all night long.
All the times I've been here, there was never a long wait which is good. Who wants to wait when you have reservations, right?
Food is good and not so pricey.
Great for group parties before hittin' up the clubs. Lots of pretty people and this is where we belong. lol.
The last time I came here, they had smoking seating which was a little weird. But......
Okay, I have to admit Yelp was right about this one. It deserves three stars. Go here for the atmosphere. It's a cool spot to hang out. It's kind of dark and there's a lot of red everywhere.
i was a quite disappointed with the food. I should have listened to Yelp and not my cousin whe raved about how good the food was here. My friend and I had the black cod and 3 other sushi rolls. The black cod smelled a little fishy. It tasted okay. I've had way better black cod in San Francisco. The rolls didn't stand out. Four dishes for about $70 barely put a dent in our appetite. It was an appetizer. But then again, we already knew we were going to stop by Pink's Hot Dogs afterwards.
Service was pretty bad. I would have expected better in Hollywood for this kind of restaurant.
After dinner, I went upstairs to take a picture with a girl dressed up in a geisha outfit who was walking around mingling with the guests. Upstairs was pretty cool. They have a private dining table enclosed in glass. This would be nice for a little private party. They also had a few slightly more formal booths with nicer light fixtures than downstairs.
If you want good sushi, go somewhere else.
1st time having dinner and it was NYE. We scored a table in the main dining area with all the eye candy I could possibly soak up. Our beautiful server, busy as you could expect never once let on she was too busy for us! Judyann serviced her area like a polished symphony...unbelieveable. Few dishes we had weren't memorable and during such a busy time troubled her to ask the chef what were the ultimate freshest of the fresh. Out came spanish mackerel. If the overflowing of booze hadn't stuffed my tummy, I'd eat 10 more orders of that spanish mackerel. In addition, the manager of the evening Kelt stop by to check on us and brought us the most beautiful, chilled sake. Meant to be shots, more like a full cocktail. I couldn't stop drinking it. By NY we were throwing back Crystal, shaking our a55es to old school hip hop. We had an awesome time!!
The only memorable things about this place were the Frightened Geisha sushi, and how damn expensive everything was! You're paying for the decor, atmosphere, and the hot "geisha" girls more so than for a culinary experience. Out of the sushi and robata grill stuff we got, the best thing was the Frightened Geisha. The drinks were decent. I had a Geisha's Kosmo that wasn't too strong, but still gave me a buzz. The other people in my party didn't like their drinks, though.
If you can afford overpriced food, by all means come; if you're a normal person, do not come here unless a friend from out of town really wants a Hollywood experience and Katsu-ya isn't an option. I saw Clifton Collins Jr. here (his name isn't familiar, but you've seen him before!), so you're bound to see some type of C-lister if you come often enough!
Sushi shouldn't get this expensive unless it comes with sprinkles of platinum inside the rolls, then I'd understand. Other than that, you're paying to be a part of the scene. Yes, the sushi is great if you have deep pockets, but you can get that same quality (even better) anywhere else for half the price. If you really find it really necessary to eat at Geisha House, then you're not really in it for the sushi, now are you? It's ok, here is a box of tissues, acceptance is the first step.
I recently tried Geisha House for the first time, and I wish someone would have told me to go there sooner. We had a number of the items on their menu. We started out with the garlic edema me. This was one of the main highlights of the meal. They had the perfect amount of soy sauce, garlic and salt on them, and were very tender. Then we tried the Beef Robata with asparagus which was also very good. Their sushi was pretty average. The best roll that we had ordered was the red rocket. We also had the cowboy roll and the geisha kiss. I'd recommend checking this place out.
On a side note, this is a good place for random celebrity sitings. Does anyone remember the owner from that terrible TV show called Sunset Tan? He was there with some random blonds with huge tits.
hated it. over hyped. over priced. parking sucks. blegh!
better sushi for a better price in Little Tokyo.
Pretty awesome sushi! Im a vegetarian and I still had way more to eat than I should have. There menu is robust and delicious. I like the lawn roll and the tempura roll. The atmosphere is kitschy and red!!!! The service was fast and courteous. Matter of fact Im feeling like sushi right now!
LOL.
This place is slore central. If you like being part of a ho-train with your box hanging out of your dress... you'll fit in here.
The hostess was a total bitch. The service was beyond terrible... We even switched tables because a ho train of 17 came in and stole our waitress. After 30 min of waiting for a drink... ugh.
Yeah, I'll go to Pavillions grociery store for sushi before I go back here.
The food? The lamb was insane, but it wasn't much.
The waitress tried to give us some jungle juice in a shot glass, as a sympathy drink? .... nasty.
Bleh. Definitely don't come here for sushi or geishas (apparently there aren't any on Sundays). Just come here if you want to take a cool picture with friends in a red-lit hallway. That's just about the best thing about this place.....
This is a total hollywood scene. I definitely recommend Koi over The geisha house anytime. Why?
- Better Service
- More intimate feeling.
- Did I mention better service?
Well, the good thing was when I was dining here, I had a great company with me. Therefore, even with the horrible service, I really enjoyed myself.
Recommendation:
- King Crab Legs- actually has a lot of meat.
This review is defnitely overdue.
My cousins and I were in town for a bachelorette weekend in Hollywood/Los Angeles. We decided to try this place since it was on one of those to do list of things to try when in the area so we tried it.
Coming into the restaurant is a bit blinding since it's really dark. There's a ton of red which for me is blinding in itself. It was really crowded on the Friday night that we arrived and there were tons of people in the waiting area and the bar. But, of course, us being the women we are, managed to get our group bachelorette shot out of the way and take some pictures while we were at it.
When we were finally seated (yes even after having reservations) we were seated on the bottom floor near the kitchen area. So, of course we were easily forgotten. I don't even remember our server's name but he wasn't very helpful. When we looked through the menu we each ordered something from the menu and shared all the plates. We ordered some sushi, some seafood, some meat, etc. The meals were good but boy were they pricey. During dinner we managed to find some geishas roaming around the restaurant which we thought was pretty cool. Other than that, there's really not much to the restaurant. The seating is pretty crowded and jam packed like sardines in a can.
After dinner, we were offered dessert and I ordered the fried bananas with ice cream...my fave. It's pretty hard to mess these up. The dessert was good but of course I wanted more...which is always the case.
All in all, the service sucked but the food was okay. If we weren't seated way in the back near the kitchen I think we would have been better off. After all, who wouldn't want to serve 7-8 young lovely ladies...especially on a bachelorette weekend trip down south...obviously it wasn't the servers at the Geisha house.
Went on a Friday night. Busy as expected. Live DJ and fairly dressy crowd. Feels like a dance club meets sushi house in an all out high energy meal.
The food was excellent. Really loved the fact that all the rolls are made with soy paper by default! They also have a good sake selection. Music can be a little loud if your going there just to eat a nice meal, but if your planning to go out after dinner, it's a great starting point. Especially since there open really late!
Went back after not having been for years. Overall had a pleasant experience.
Highly recommend the 'Naked Roll' if you like scallop. However the scallop sashimi wasn't anything special...werid.
The best thing I had last night though was the 'Rock Shrimp Tempura.' It's served with a side of aioli dipping sauce that is to die for.
The service was great. I was out with a lovely lady and ordered some wine. They ran out but the waitress suavely recommended a similar wine (that was in the same price range). Very subtle yet good service. WIsh I could afford to go back more!
Dinner for 2 was $126...but we went all out, bottle of white, jug of sake, appetizers and 3 dishes.

To start off my experience, I walked past Shenae Grimes (90210 star) which definitely tied in the whole LA experience for me.
We made a reservation for a Friday night at 7:30 and there was no wait. In fact there were a few empty tables throughout the whole night, surprisingly, so don't worry about waiting, but I would recommend making a reservation.
Buttttt,
1. The food was delicious, but extremely overpriced. My sister, my 2 friends, and I ordered 2 appetizers, 2 sushi rolls, edamame, and dessert and the bill came out to $100 without tip
2. I highly recommend the octopussy roll
3. If you want to get seated by a geisha, make a reservation for 8 or later
4. The service/cleanup is extremely attentive and nice, but it took a while for our watier to notice us - however, they are extremely nice and give good recommendations for the menu
5. The tempura fried brownie is a must try!
5 stars for the AMBIANCE
5 stars for the music the DJ was playing
3 stars for the FOOD
3 stars for the PRICE
Bottomline: besides the ambiance, the food was good but overpriced.
Some of the goodies we ordered:
- the Pacific tuna w/ crispy white onion (yummy)
- the lightly battered basa-catfish (good)
- black cod (good, but not great)
- the "demon slayer" sake (smooth criminal)
- shishito peppers
- kobe prime ribeye steak (pretty good, BUT i've had better and cheaper elsewhere)
- Geisha Lips (a refreshing roll. too bad I don't like cucumbers)
- Red Samurai (good, BUT I'm not a fan of spicy tuna. the grape tomatoes were good though!)
- tuna over crispy rice: good.
The Geisha House decor and vibe are intriguing, but I was utterly disappointed in the food. At the end of the night I remember thinking, "So THIS is what everyone's talking about?"
Be prepared to spend money at the crowded trendy bar/entrance area waiting for a table, whether you have reservations or not.
I went about a year and a half ago and don't think I would go back unless I was with someone who was just dying to go.
I was never a fan of sushi but after having their spicy tuna I've never looked back. Their previous manager was a good friend of my daughters and he even enjoyed working there. This is also a nice environment to relax or go out for some drinks with your girls.
The rolls were awesome. My husband wont eat nori so the fact that all rolls are made with soy paper, rice paper or no paper makes ordering easy. It was really loud but the atmosphere was awesome. I felt very rushed by the servers even though we had a 10:30m reservation.
Was taken on a great date here.
Plus, the drinks are definitely not diluted to the point of uselessness. Thanks for that, GH.
