Ok, I added one star because my computer was ready when I came to pick it up this morning and they somehow did not charge me for saving my data. They actually should have charged me, as I was previously quoted $99 for the service, but I twice said, "I think I owe you some money, right?" and twice the friendly gentleman responded, "no, you're all set." Um, okay, I won't ask to give you money a third time.

In the end, it all turned out just fine, but if they had not graced me with the free data backup, I think I would have wanted to charge them with my therapy session fees. Oy vey. Computer failures are the bane of my existence.

I would give this place ZERO stars if that was an option on Yelp!!

These guys are beyond horrible. I brought my camera in for repair (I had purchased the extended warranty when I bought the camera from Best Buy last year). I waited in line for 40 minutes... even though I was the first person in line!! The customer service was extremely slow and the workers were somewhat incompetent. While I was waiting, I saw at least two other Geek Squad representatives just hanging out and chatting. They were clearly not concerned with the growing line behind me or about helping their customers. I would not recommend using these guys.

NO Thank You.

l hired the GeekSquad to simply save time.
Most anyone can stick speaker wires into speakers and into the receiver where they need to go, so l was totally annoyed when a Geek Squad ''technician" showed up at my door without even bringing a wire stripping tool. l mean - all l hired him to do was strip the new wires and insert them into the right slots.
Not only did he let me know that he was really squeezed for time but when he left - l was left to ''complete the job''.

The NIGHTMARE was with the GROSSLY INADEQUATE system in place to deal with consumer complaints...can we say "pull all of your own teeth out with no anesthesia using a crowbar?"

DISGUSTING - DO NOT EVER USE GEEK SQUAD.

0 stars is right. So for the 3rd time I'm waiting for my DSLR camera repair which is taking 3+ weeks. The repair is sent out to a 3rd party, but each time sits in the store for at least a week before its shipped, and once it was "lost" for about 3 days.
This of-course meant that it was not fixed before I left my trip. This is not a complicated repair, sensor cleaning and grip replacement.

When trying to call for status, I get placed on hold, 5-10 minutes I timed it, and at least half the time, the call is dropped (by best buy) or I get put on yet another hold. I was in fact able to register for YELP and write this review as I'm sitting on hold!!!
When leaving messages, the soonest I've gotten a call back was 4 hours, and never gotten a real explanation for the delay with the repairs/service or lack there of

When waiting in line, each time I see new people, understandably there is turn over in retail but more could be done to hire and retain somewhat competent staff who have some concept of customer service

I also often overhear some ridiculous excuses given to other customers, regarding delays, repairs with "used" and not so well refurbished parts, I could go on

I've contacted the store manager to provide feedback twice now, and seen 0 improvement

Total waste of time.

I stood in line forever to drop off my ill functioning laptop. They kept it for about 10 days. I had to stand in line forever again to pick it up.... back home now and the issue has not been fixed!

Not only their name sucks, but they don't do a good job.

Where's the zero star rating?

No, no, no.  Bad.  Don't even think about it, unless you wish:
. . . to be ignored
. . . to stand in line forever
. . . to listen to a phone ring endlessly and not be answered
. . . to watch the "Geeks" mill around seemingly aimlessly
. . . to not see anyone leave with anything fixed

I would petition to give 0 stars but I'm okay with 1 because they did manage to refund the TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS that I paid to have them NOT fix my computer for 3 weeks.

Awful, awful, awful.

You show up at Best Buy, wait in line for 30 minutes while one sales person helps the other people in line.  It's good they spend so much time on each person, but the main reason they spend so much time is because they have no idea what they're doing.  Over half the time they're "helping" you, they're asking some other "geek" how to do something or looking around for something they can't find anywhere.

My computer was there for five days, at which point I recieved an automated phone call that it was ready to be picked up.  I arrived at the counter and saw a sign that said "if you are picking something up, please let a geek squad member know."  So, to the evil glares of the other four people in line I walked to the front and told them I was picking up my computer.  It took the guy 20 minutes just to FIND my computer (which was extremely unnerving).  He finally comes out with my computer, and tells me that they were not able to recover any data from my harddrive.

In writing this review, I am trying hard to not let the fact that they couldn't recover my data skew my opinions, but as friendly as everyone is their customer service is truly awful.  Maybe if they gave employees some training, or hired more employees, things wouldn't be so bad.  But as things are, I will never again bring a computer here.

See reviews of Peter's PC Repair for some real computer help.

Aren't Geek's supposed to be intelligent?  Let's just say that if these folks are really good at what they do, they would be working at Google or Microsoft.  I mean even IT at the Goodwill would be a step up.  They're nothing but G.E.D. posers with a decent marketing agency.  The only reason I took my computer here was that I bought a 3 year warranty on my laptop.  Don't be fooled!  These are just McDonald's employees with different uniforms.

Here's a summary of my experience:  3+ months, 5 store visits, dozens of phone calls, hundreds of rings and NO FREAKIN' COMPUTER!

UPDATE:
I received my computer back in June, used it for about a month, and once again, it craps out.  Same exact problem.  I take the computer back and was surprised at how helpful the one Geek (older gentlemen) that helped me was.  As it has now been repaired over 5 times, I am entitled to a new computer apparently.  Great, so they say it has to be sent to the mother ship for inspection, then I'll be able to pick a similar computer at no cost.  I felt like this could all end decently, but those feels soon ended.   I still have no computer and it's September.  I called them and asked what was going on and said the repair is on its way back.  Repair?  I'm done with that thing.  I'm very concerned about how they will handle this.  Will they try to push the old one on me again?  Will I get the new computer as promised?  We'll see.

Things really started on the wrong foot because I ordered a home theater consultation via http://bestbuy.com, and Geek Squad didn't receive the information until almost three weeks later. I wasted hours on the phone with http://bestbuy.com to find out what was going on.

The Geek Squad consultant came to our house and did his work in under half an hour; however, he failed to mention to us that we would have to get home association authorization for the home theater technicians to drill into our floorboards and do work in the crawl space, etc. Therefore, when the home theater techs arrived and told us they needed our letter of authorization, we got flustered. Luckily, we were flexible and just decided to leave the wiring along the floor molding temporarily.

Anyway, the consultant's oversight could have cost us the installation appointment and our fee, and that was just totally unacceptable on his part. For that my review should end on one star if it were not for the decent job the installers did wall-mounting our big-ass TV, changing our speakers, and rewiring everything (the two men were professional and nice enough). I have no complaints about the installation so far two weeks after the job; however, the whole process, including the online appointment, was stupid, annoying, dysfunctional, and soured me greatly on using this service again for future work. I plan on hiring someone else to do any future work, and I do NOT recommend that you or anyone you care about go through Geek Squad for home theater upgrade installations. Just not worth the headache we went through.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!

I've used Geek Squad in both New York and San Francisco and the service has been, for lack of a better word, crappy as hell.

In New York they missed or rescheduled 3 appointments, IN A ROW. Today I had them scheduled at my house in SF and they called and canceled and scheduled another appointment for a week later. I don't know why I'm surprised.

There are far, FAR better on-site services to use than Geek Squad and they're all going to be both cheaper and better. Geek Squad should never be used, even if they're the last option - I'd recommend buying a "Computers for Dummies" book and fixing your own PC before relying on this gang of nitwits and fools!!! THEY SUCK!

I called up the geek squad thinking someone could come to my place of business to help me fix my computer - but when I called I was told I would be charged a minimum of $300 on top of the fee to fix the computer - what a joke.

Bad. Bad. Bad.

Hate that I even had to give one star to submit a review. Called to have three laptops configured to our network (two PC running XP and one Mac). We were told we would receive a call within two hours.

Guess what? No call. Never. No one showed up at the door to even look at our problem. Looks as though we gave them a project too complicated for their meagre (if any) talents.

Looks as though they are building a business on the computer illiterate who run out of printer ink, don't know how to open an AOL file to read an e-mail, or get a CD stuck in a drive.

Pathetic.

The geek squad is lightning fast with their service.  They figured out the computer problem that I had in 25 minutes.  Well, great service and great knowledge.  The price is a little high.  $199 to get my computer going again.  Well, whatever....all it matters is the computer is running!!!
I tried calling for computer service with one of the guys that I found on Yelp.  It is nothing but an answering machine.  I am also skeptic about handing over my computer to someone that only has an answering machine but no physical store because this so called computer tech may never return my computer.  Also, my work computer has too much confidential information in it and I just don't feel comfortable dealing with someone that picks up my computer with a bicycle.

Last night a Geek Squad saved my life!  Excited to get my new laptop, I was trying to transfer files from my old PC. I unknowingly changed a setting that resulted in being unable to log on. Oops! I tried a couple of things but with no luck and was panic stricken I might lose my files. Took it to the Geek Squad in Best Buy and 30 minutes later, I had access. Some settings are off but I have access to my files. Thank you Geek Squad.

(Most of the poor reviews seem to be for home/office service but this is for in-store.)

I too wish there was a way to give no stars.

There are maybe one, possibly two geeks that are helpful in their squad.  And how many geeks equal a squad?  anyway.

1. lied to about the where abouts of my computer.  was told it was at the manufactures when it was in the back.
2. told they looked at it, when no one had touched it in a week.
3. told I never paid for services even after showing them my recipe.
4. the computer had more issues after they finally took a look at it, it was only missing a driver, then it shut down every 3 minutes. (not a problem it had going in)
5. no one knows who is above the manager when going to complain.
6 lost my recover disk and was asked what it looked like "round, flat, plastic, had the words recover on one side, a rainbow of colors on the other"
7. after nearly 200 bucks, they couldnt fix it and was told they needed to sent it out +$45 to send, then they couldn't tell how much more to fix the problem.
8. lied to some more.

There is one person there Calibe who knows what they are doing.  NONE of the others do.  They have no idea of custumer service at all.  They know they have you over a barrel and seem to enjoy it.

Only hint I can give is when you call bestbuy don't press the button for geek squad, press the button for an assosiate, it goes to the geek squad phone and there is a better bet they will answer it, instead of waiting an hour for someone to finally decide to answer the geek phone.

Serious lack of confidence in this group of people.  Seems like incompetence runs rampant there.  I won't go on with specific details that will bore all, but just say that I've sent my letter of complaint to them and took my hard drive back and canceled the "service" they were going to do.  I don't recommend the Geek Squad.

Well, I would agree that their customer service in store does leave a bit to be desired. However, I had a very positive experience with their ability to fix my laptop - quickly and efficiently. They fixed it quickly after getting the run around from another store in the city. I do think that they'd be well served to re-structure their set up....and not try to completely solve each problem, while a line forms.

Going to these guys has been one of the biggest mistakes I could have made.  I would opt for zero stars if possible.  My computer has been with them for over two weeks now.  When I call, I have been put on hold for over twenty minutes until I hung up or simply get an automated message that they are unavailable.  I have never had such horrible customer service . . . ever . . . period.

My PC has been acting funky for about a month and really didn't know where to bring my Dell computer. As a suggestion, I called Geek Squad and they came to my rescue. Not only is there a 24-hour service hotline, but they also provide home service to your computer... These people know their stuff when it comes to computers.. in a matter of thirty minutes, the technician was able to find what was wrong with my computer and able to install spy sweeper... now my computer is really protected... Geek Squad services are located in Best Buy stores... Totally worth it...
