My 1994 Nissan Quest van has 125,000 miles on it. It was having a lot of trouble reaching freeway speeds, and I thought that I would need to buy a new transmission, a new engine, or perhaps a new van. None of these were appealing options. Based on the praise he got in Yelp, I went to see Aldo at Gearmaster.
Aldo carefully tested the car, and concluded that both the transmission and the engine were OK. As he put it, the main thing this old friend needed was some basic TLC.
The car got a super tuneup, brakes, electrical shorts that had not been properly repaired before got fixed, and a throttle sensor was replaced. In less than two days, we were test driving a van that performed the way I remembered it 14 years ago. I was very impressed by Aldo's honesty, knowledge, professionalism and kindness. He runs a first class operation.
Sadly, many other people will gladly sell you an expensive transmission, and if your car is in a state like mine was, that will just not help.
I recommend Gearmaster very highly, and urge you to give Aldo an opportunty to earn your business. I think you will be glad you did.
I recently did a search for a transmission shop and Gearmaster was the first shop that came up and with the best reviews.
I was recently told by another mechanic that I needed a transmission so I called Gearmaster and spoke with Dave, he told me to bring my truck by and that they would take a look for free and let me know if I needed a transmission.
The first thing I noticed was how clean and well put together this shop is. Not only are they courteous they are extremely professional while still letting you know that you are important.
I met Aldo the owner of the shop and he is a breath of fresh air in an industry where I have had some recent bad dealings.
I found out that the previous mechanic was wrong and have my parts on order and it worked out to be a mere fraction of what I thought I would have to spend!
I would highly recommend this shop not only because they are professional but they are honest and do their work with integrity and that by far is an amazing thing nowadays!
Okay, I felt that I needed to update this;
Since having the original work done I noticed a couple more issues and I am currently having more done and just want to say that not only is the shop patient with you but they really do their job. I have never been to a mechanic that was so proactive. This shop does not have you replace things you do not need they address the serious problems first. I am so very thankful that I found this shop on Yelp and took a chance in going there.
Honestly, there doesn't seem to be anything that this shop can't do or help you with. They are a wealth of information and knowledge! Thank you Aldo & Dave!!!
Even though I've moved an hour North, I still have my vehicles serviced at Gearmaster. I've had two crappy cars blow their even crappier transmissions: A Ford Exploder and a Dodge Dakota. Both transmissions were rebuilt perfectly without any need to return for additional service or repair. (Note to American cars--We're breaking up)
This is the way a shop should operate. Aldo knows his business and sticks to his word. I have friends who have been screwed by a transmission shop, who initially gave a much lower estimate, and SURPRISE, once your vehicle is in 500 pieces, they need more $$ to put it back together.
Good luck out there.
i went to this place to get one thing fixed, they called me saying the problem i knew they were lying. so i picked up my car and something completely different was messed up and i fixed that and the original problem still remains. these guys are crooks and the guy aldo is a liar and a crook.
As far as I am concerned Gearmaster is the only place to take anything on wheels. I have been doing business with Aldo (the owner) for over 15 years and he has never let me down. You get the absolute best service and value for any and all of your repairs at Gearmaster. I just picked up my Tahoe tonight, Aldo only had it for 24 hours and he was able to replace the old burned out transmission and replace it with a new one and got me back on the road in no time. Although I don't live in San Jose anymore I still make the trip down to assure myself I am taken care of by Gearmaster.
Bottom line, if you want good service and quality work it's a no brainer where to take your car. If you take it somewhere else, it's a risk your going to have to take.
