This place is not what you would think it would be by the name of it. they do have all the regular gay pride stuff like t-shirts and the like. They do have feather boas and stickers and signs attesting to pride in one's homosexuality, but they also have a whole bunch of cool action figures. Are you looking for a new Dr. Who action figure? This is the place. Actually, I didn't even know that much Dr. Who stuff existed. They have a bunch of Superman and batman and other comic book characters' action figures too. they have lots and lots of action figures. they have a bunch of other cool stuff too. i now know where to go to get cool and interesting eccentricities for friends and family for their next birthdays or just for the heck of it.
The staff is super-friendly and helpful too, and the prices seem pretty good.
The name of the store so doesn't do it justice. Yes, we know its in Boystown and is showing some pride, but it really offers a wonderful assortment of gifts and pop culture collections.
The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I was looking for Muppet gifts. They didn't have a huge collection but were able to fully explain to me that there just isn't a whole lot of Muppet items in production anymore because of the licensing rights with Disney. Basically they had a whole back store of information which was impressive and they directed me towards a website (and a name of a specific person even!) that could help me in my Muppet search.
Stop in and take a gander because this store is huge and there it has so much more to offer than what you can see from just a quick peek in the window.
Rainbow explosion galore, random crap, and amazingly weird toys galore.
A total zoo during Pride week, but a good place to stock up on supplies for the parade. If you've got any sort of "crowd" issues, though, stock up earlier in the month.
We came here to get leis, flags, bracelets and the usual rainbow merchandise to outfit ourselves for the parade. I wonder what the reaction was in the Treasury department of my corporate office when they got the credit card statement; "What are those damn girls doing there at the Lakeview store????!!!"
Mostly overpriced junk, either gay-themed or just campy kitsch. If you want your house to look like that of a suburban queen who buys clothes from International Male and talks about her MCC church all day long, this might be the place for you to shop.
The best part of camp is discovering it in places where it is NOT intended and this place kind of defeats the purpose of doing so.
The merchandise is on the pricey side, but I get a lot of great toys in here, and I mean superhero & South Park type toys - I know what you were thinking!
Trekking this far down the block I found some other great shops to go into, so that was worth it.
For a lover of comic books and all things geeky, this being on my corner and walking by it almost everyday is torture!! I want every statue in the windows!! The guy knows his figures that's for sure. The cards are the best and something for EVERY gay occasion! Where else can my partner and I pick up a card for our new niece that's from her "two gay aunts"?
The other hand though - I hate being followed around like I'm going to steal something and being treated rudely at the cash register. As a person in the community I go here to support the business. But I hate being scared to buy something for fear the guy behind the counter is going to harrass me. Even my out of state license apparently qualifies me as a theif as he eyes me and my credit card and license.
Have fun in here during Pride sure, but jeez, avoid the mean owner and his even meaner huge ass white dog!
Perhaps the most irrelevant review ever. I do not care. Instant stars for having the remote control pterodactyl toy of my dreams that I still haven't gotten up the cojones to blow the money on. Oh how I wanted to scare my ex roommate with that thing.
Otherwise, great selection of random crapola which of course I love.
This store definitely lives up to its name. It's one of the gayest places I've ever been to in my life. But it's so fun! Aside from rainbow paraphernalia, feather boas, sex toys and other such gayness, this is a great place for pop culture collectors. TONS of Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, The Doors, Elvis, etc merch. Make sure you stop and check out the cards, they're very unique!
It's OK if you're straight, honey.
This place has everything you want but do not need. As well as rare finds (like the timmay doll I bought for my friend which wasn't even attainable on eBay).
Worth the time, the (i think) owner is friendly and helpful and into the products so you ca ask lots of questions and get.... you guessed it... lots of answers.
I work near Gaymart and I swear the only reason my boyfriend comes to visit me at work is so he can go to Gaymart after. They have tons of neat things if you're into cool toys and shit like that. I also adopted my third (and final!) Ugly Doll from this special store. I always want to shop around in Gaymart on my lunch break, but I know I'll end up spending too much money and coming back to work with a bunch of weird items.
I'm not usually in the market for this type of material - I only have a couple of friends who would appreciate the gifts on offer in this place but the staff is so friendly, the music so good and the kitsch so cute, I could easily get my browse on and have fun doing it...
Gaymart is just down the street from my home and a must see for all of my out-of-town guests for souvenirs like the colorful Boystown tees. The one thing about browsing through Gaymart that seems creepy are the cute boys they've got strolling through the store to make sure no one steals stuff. It just feel weird to look through the corner of your eye to find them lurking, staring at you from behind the postcard rack or blending in with the wall of stuffed animals.
Lots of cute, campy, nerdy kitch. I bought a Doctor Who action figure here! I like it a lot (:
Great little store where you can find all sorts of stuff...Love the name! Prices vary depending on what you are looking for, but its a great place to browse.
It's a really cool little shop, obviously loaded with gay themed merchandise. It also has an interesting selection of odd memorabilia from various TV shows and comic books. Although some of their stuff is a little bit pricey, there are also some very good deals if you take the time to look around. I've purchased a really cool rainbow candle set from there, as well as quite a bit of jewelry.
Gaymart, what a great name. This place is loaded with toys, knick knacks, and party favors for bachelorette and theme parties. If you can't find what you're looking for, you'll probably find something else you'll want just as much.
This is a cook knick knacky place.. its got tons of little trinkets and gay pride decorations.. they ship around the US which is great!
Interesting store. It's packed with basically any toy you can think of. You can find stuff from the Wizard of Oz to cute flower vases. I was amazed by all the different stuff they have.
