Chai latte was spciy and tasty. This picky Chai lovin' tranny approves.

And cute girl at the register giving me that look - it was a good day when I came in to Gaylord's.

Went in again today and tried 3 pastries. All were pretty tasteless. The lady t the counter was nice enough to let us exchange one but overall it disappoints. We really want to like this place, but I think it is the kinda spot to surf the web on the WiFi while you are waiting for a friend to join you on Piedmont.

We popped in for a quick coffee and a donut this afternoon and had a nice time and good interaction with the staff.

Unfortunately the donut that I was craving was pretty stale but the drip coffee was good and so was the location and vibe.

For sure worth popping by again on another day.

Well. I'm sitting here now Yelping.

$2.55 for a Matte Latte + $1 for internet use. Yay for the latte price (cheap, and a pretty large portion! Definitely more than 12 ounces I think...*staring at mug*). Taste wise, I liked Julie's Cafe (in Alameda's) better -- but that's probably because it was made with Oatmilk instead of regular milk.

There's a tea place down the street that has a way nicer atmosphere, but no internet. So, I kinda picked this place just because they have internet - which they charge for. This is the only cafe I've stumbled across that charges for internet, so...boo to that.

Atmosphere-wise, it's pretty packed now and kinda grundgy.

But..it does the work. I have internet.

Will I be back? Probably not.

Great, great coffee.

Not great for breakfast. For what I paid for a bagel, I could have had 2 eggs and toast over at Trieste.

Cafe Mocha was pretty good. Their chocolate is not as syrupy sweet as some places. +1, but they don't offer whipped cream like some places. -1.

Cool decor. i love the organ table!

I'd rather have coffee here than Starbucks. In fact, I'd rather curl myself into a loop and tongue my own asshole before having char-fucks coffee.

Gaylord's is kinda like Trader Joe's. You like it. You like what they have to offer. You see that other people like it too. Yet, you get annoyed whenever you are there because it seems as though no matter where you stand, you are in the way. Or some oblivious asshat is in your way. I liked it. I won't go out of my way for it.

I also felt like I wasn't cool enough to be there. And I'm #@$%ing cool. (I think.)

Extra props for having rice milk. I'm not vegan or anything. However, sometimes you want a break from dairy and soy milk makes me very unhappy. (Actually, it makes everyone around me unhappy.)

I love the fact that this place gives you ice cubes made out of coffee with your iced coffee. That's the first time i've seen it and it's definitely a plus. It keeps the coffee nice a cool while keeping the drink undiluted in the process.
What a wonderful idea.
That plus they have sugar water rather than just granulated sugar like some other places. Hello! granulated sugar does not dissolve in ICED drinks!.  I wish other coffee shops would follow suit.

Only downside is that it's kind of crowded and the chairs are uncomfortable. But then again... It probably gives it the atmosphere of the local corner coffee shop.

Came in here after walking from the lake to this area.  Had recently purchased from Dr.Comics and asked them where I could sit outside and have an ice tea.

They directed me to Gaylords.  I got there, ordered an iced tea, and sat outside.  I commenced to read my Batman & Robin #1 and it was glorious.

But then I had a rumbly in my tumbly and had to high tail it out of there.

The iced tea was pretty good.

Came in here to catch up on some enthralling biochemistry reading. Yeah the vibe is annoyingly hipster/scenester but there's something relaxing about knowing I'm better dressed/cleaner than everyone else. The staff seemed nice and even brought my iced tea to my table.

I love that the furniture is wooden and soft. The benches and tables are much more inviting than the tiny modern chairs at Starbucks and the non-existent seating at Peets.

Modest pricing of cold and warm teas.  A great place to just sit, talk, sip your beverage of choice, and enjoy the peaceful part of Oakland.  The choices seem reasonably prices, though I'm not sure about the fresh juice prices.

Gaylord's is a good place as a neighborhood coffee/tea shop in this area of Oakland!

Suck it, scenesters.

Maybe my service-mojo is off, but friends and I came here for coffee yesterday and were heartily unimpressed by Gaylord's level of customer care.

Well, first off I was unimpressed by their ridiculous $4 orange juice.  Fine, it's fresh squeezed and all that, but can't you just stock some concentrate so that if I'm thirsty for juice I can plunk down a buck or two and sate my vitamin-C unrich palate?  I know, I know--hipsters everywhere are blanching in ideological offense, but come on, sometimes a girl just wants a simple glass of juice.

And anyhow, after I paid those $4 (and change...) for my stupidly expensive gourmet juice, I had to wait 15 minutes for it.  Yes, the girl who took my order (who was sweet) told me it'd be a minute because they were cleaning the juice machine (see, I'm not the only person out there who wants some OJ) BUT after I sat and waited (at a table literally two feet from the counter), keeping a vigilant eye out (because I was thirsty *and* ripped off) nothing happened.  Finally I noticed a large glass of juice that had appeared on the low shelf of counter behind me at some point and stood up to get it.

Yes, it's a little thing, but it's always the little things that make or break any experience.  There were three chicks behind the counter, they all *clearly* saw me watching for my stupid glass of juice, and not one of them bothered to say, "Hey, here's that stupid glass of juice."  They could've even flipped me off when they did it, long as they'd handed me my OJ with their other hand.

In addition, when Nnekay F. joined us mid-way through Tamar's coffee and my juice-waiting, she said the girl behind the counter (not the same one who'd taken my stupid juice order) was totally rude.

Eff that.  Next time we'll actually make good on using that Starbucks gift card in my wallet, and then maybe we'll bring our Starbucks cups into Gaylord's and take up space just to annoy you.

They have ice cream!!

And the coffee is good too, but they also have an espresso drink that they add the ice cream to...the "Gaylord Mocha". They also add a chocolate covered espresso bean to your espresso drink. At one time I was so hooked, that I would shamelessly ask for a few extra beans.

It's fun to sit outside on one of the benches and people watch. Gaylords attracts a lot of characters, and I'm pretty sure that you have to own a Mac if you want to use your laptop there...yeah, it's that type of crowd.

Need a tip? Step outside, look to the left and give the finger to the Starbucks across the street.

So, I was going to write a snappy new review of this awesome hipster joint but I thought "you know what, I could just cut and paste another review by someone I know and fully plagerize what has already been said about amazing hipster coffee joints." Does that seem a little seedy and impudent? Perhaps. But I'm the kind of person who takes 2 free samples and jaywalks at will. So, I am "borrowing" Anthony S.'s review and adding some of my own flair. It's like he's getting two props, but I am using an already tight form and expanding it some for this awesome neighborhood institution.

You've mastered the hipster style http://streetknowledge...; a tight t-shirt, a sweater from the thrift shop, a keffiyeh, skinny jeans and a scuffed up pair of Converse Chuck Taylor high tops.  Your hair looks like you just rolled out of bed, but it took you 45 minutes to make it look that way.  Congratulations! (Ok, so this was true for the OTHER hipster joint, but this is also true for Gaylord's...so why change what amazingness has already been written? Use what's there.)

You're now ready to parlay that complicated fashion sense into a real life venue.  A social situation, if you will...Naturally you're scared.  How do I act?  What do I do?  Where do I sit?  Take a deep breath and calm down my friend, I'm here to help you. (This is true, Anthony S. will be living in said neighborhood and is, quite frankly, a hipster. He has always been Mr. Hipster, and will probably go full Monte when he arrives. You'll see him, trying to be on the DL while playing up the charm. He's hip, so listen to what he is saying about Gaylord's.)

The Hipster Guide to Local Coffee Shops: (This is coined and owned by Anthony S. I am just using it for my review to look like I put A LOT of time and effort into this venture:)

1. Post up on the rattiest sofa you can find: +3 hipster points
Rebecca's (nope, Gaylord's here...insert Gaylord's where you read Rebecca. Let's not mess this up!!) is great for this, the sofas here (Gaylord's really only has tables, and a very cool arcade game table. Very ironic and that's incredibly hip. You know, to be ironic. It's like your cool, but you're not, but you want to seem like you are when you know you're not. Cool, hu?)  Hipsters LOVE this shit as it shows that they don't think they're too good to sit on other people's garbage.  Bravo young hipster.  Bravo.

2. Prominently display your Mac: +10 hipster points
Any Apple product is the hipster badge of honor.  You score twice as many points if that product is the sleek aluminum MacBook Pro laptop.  To be seen behind the keyboard of Mr. Jobs' dream machine with the glowing Apple logo is to show everyone in the joint that you're a free-thinker and you're thumbing your nose at the man.  If you have Linux loaded on it, then you're the golden boy. (Now how true is this? How many of you hipsters reading this are running Ubuntu right now? Come ON! That's so hip.)

3. Have a book nearby: +5 hipster points
It can be any book really.  You don't even need to be reading it for full effect.  You should however, be prepared to give a brief synopsis should someone ask you about the plot.  When talking to someone about the book, always compare it to a classical piece of literature that you've read in the past.  Automatic adjustment of +1 point if you wear black framed glasses during this conversation. (For Oakland and surrounds, we all know this has to be about Anarchy, free politics, urban assault gardening or of course Open Source programming...)

4. Look disaffected and uninterested: +2 hipster points
This one is important.  Staring into space will enhance your hipster street cred.  If you can fake the general public into thinking you're deep in thought, they will gain much respect for you and hold you in high esteem.   Again, you're a deep thinker, let your knowledge show.

5. Order black coffee: +9 hipster points
Let's not do that here at Gaylord's though, because their milk art is amazing and the joy of receiving something amazing in a cup. Something so smooth, beautiful and creamy is a joy to behold. Let's go latte and see what happens.

Gaylord's is everything that the Peets/Starbucks/Tully's giants aren't. Their smooth, hip, cool and beautiful. Check them out!

Thank you Anthony S. for the great review and meriting the artistic license.  Why reinvent amazing??

Oh BTW, Anthony S. is pretty cool, check him out! :)

I could add another star because it basically has what I want in a cafe--espresso in a porcelain cup, open late, wi-fi--but it always seems to be crowded, there was crowded and cramped wait for my simple drink, and the space simply needs some updating (i.e. everything looks worn out).  That said, I think it's admirable that this place is open late (till midnight, I understand).

Did not try the espresso but they actually have an Italian machine, which is a good sign.  Peanut butter cookie I had was soft and delicious.  My Italian soda came in a non-disposable cup which is nice but it was more of a coffee mug than the pint glass or tall glass mug that I would prefer.

Wi-fi speed test came out at 1.5mbps dowload/0.4mbps upload and costs a $1 (you buy a password at the register).  VPN worked fine.

Customers on a Sunday night were about 50% individuals working on laptops, 50% groups/couples being talking.  Lively atmosphere but not too loud.

The reason I like Gaylord's is because Starbucks set up shop across the street, clearly in an attempt to run them out of business, and it totally didn't work.  This is a place that holds almost too much history for me, you know?  But I guess it does for a lot of people, and that's what makes it a TRUE neighborhoody coffee shop.  Service is aloof, which is lame, and the drinks standard, but I can always get down with ice cream!

I have an intense nostalgic connection to this coffee shop. It was a favorite hangout of mine, and then I worked there for a year, back in 2000.

Back then the place was under different ownership, and was always on the verge of disolving into anarchy, which was part of the charm. The employees did sychronized dances, threw food at eachother, got stoned in the loft, and created general meyhem.

After a long absence from the Bay Area, I just ventured into Gaylords again to check and see how much my old haunt had changed.

It's certainly cleaner and a little more put together than it used to be. Luckily, they started putting the honey in a squeezy thing instead of the honey bear, because that damm thing was always being stolen to become someone's bong.
The matte lattes are still there, the coffee ice cubes are still in the ice cream freezer, and latte art is in full effect. They even still have vegan cookies. Yay! And this one was better than the old ones, it tasted like banana bread.
Awesome. I'm glad Gaylords is still around.

What a delightful little coffee shop. I've been here several times now - and with Starbucks and Peet's just a stones throw away, I wouldn't pick either of the two over Gaylord's. I've had Mocha's elsewhere, but this joint definitely makes the best Mocha I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. Order it WITH whip cream and they're generous with the chocolate drizzle. Order it WITHOUT whip cream, and they hook it up with a charming little design on your foam. Simple joys people, simple joys.

Staff seems totally down to earth, and WIFI access is only $1 for a day long password.

-1 star for being too crowded to find a seat on Sunday mornings.

Walk into Gaylord's tiny cafe on any given and you may see a room packed with locals lapping up lattes and peering over their laptops. Whenever I've visited, I've had a hard time finding a seat because the cafe is so popular. Gaylord's is definitely a better destination than the Starbuck's across the street--which occasionally has people sitting in their outdoor seating with cups from Gaylord's.

The coffee drinks are good enough. I certainly prefer them to Starbuck's but I usually frequent the Peet's about two blocks away. If you've never had a Matte Latte, a latte made with Yerba Matte instead of coffee, then you may want to check it out. I found it interesting and definitely worth trying.

You may want to skip the hot chocolate. Particularly the Mexican hot chocolate. When I tried the Mexican hot chocolate, it seemed like sweetened steamed milk with only a hint of chocolate. The hot chocolate tasted like a really weak cup of Ibarra. After almost grudgingly finishing the steamed milk, I saw a calcified clump of chocolate at the bottom. Swiped it with my finger. Tasted it. Almost certainly Ibarra.

Late night caffeine IV

Served simple in a paper cup.  Plain coffee.  Lots of cream and lots of artificial sweetener that I know will attack my immune system once they realize what a Splenda fool I am.

When I am out hanging with one of my very good friends I'll refer to as R, it usually turns into a several hour event.  I'm not speaking of the couple of hours variety.  Our outings can seriously last from 3-7 hours easily.  Now given my current predicament of having lots of time on my hand, I have no excuse to not hang out with one of my dear friends I've known for many years and who still happens to live in the Bay Area (a shocker for a city full of "orphans")

After consuming some of the best pizza East Bay has to offer amidst the colorful clientele which also sport some of the meanest tattoos I tend to lust after, we stopped in at Gaylord's Caffe.

They have updated with some new renovations to support the new electronic age and installed a counter for all the laptop users along the right side.  Both sides were packed when we walked in.  Sigh, so much for change.  However, I was very pleased to see that the old Pac Man consoles were still available.  Waving flags of a distant past that pays tribute to the new found technology, way more portable.  Keep in mind, however, that they do charge for WiFi, which I find simply neolithic and not indicative of the times.  I mean, honestly.  I've been to Seattle where a small drugstore/liquor store DUMP had free WiFi advertised on the awning.  Sheesh!

I did not want anything fancy, since my stomach was still in the throes of digesting some Lanesplitter pizza.  So, I elected a simple medium coffee over my usual Latte.

My goodness.  I did a mix of their Medium Roast and Breakfast Blend and have to say, it was so creamy and smooth, did not have to have a latte at all.

The clientele here is pretty colorful, but there are no snobs here.  I felt quite comfortable lounging about at one of the tables with my feet casually perched along the window sill.  A couple of cops rolled in and catching my gaze, smiled.

I think I'm going to like sitting here and sharing reciprocal salutations from cute men in uniform.

I went here last Sunday with a friend who was working on a freelance assignment.  Obviously Sunday is a busy day for cafes, especially a Sunday afternoon.  The place was packed.  One had swoop in like a hawk to grab an almost vacated table.  Kind of like the parking game in San Francisco.

Excellent Earl Gray tea.  They had no problem making my odd steamed milk-chai tea bag-vanilla syrup drink.  Yummy Semifreddi's chocolate dipped biscotti.

At first the music was a never ending stream of heavy metal.  And the place is definitely noisy when packed.  The music selection changed to more new wave after a while.  Probably due to a shift change.

I'd love to try this place out on a weekday when perhaps it is a bit less cramped.  Tons of laptops in use and as usual not enough plugs.  But let's face it that's not uncommon.

Parking in Piedmont is a bitch.  But that's not Gaylord's fault.

I've been here several times, and always have to wait. Waiting when it's packed I understand. Having to wait 10 mins for a latte when there are only 4 people in there sitting at tables playing on their Macs I just don't get. Can we also leave the side of militant ass off the order as well?

And one more thing I don't get: Who really buys a vegan donut?

What Cafe Di Bartolo lacks, Gaylord's caffe trumps (whoo hoo for electrical outlets).

The only qualm I have about this place is that they charge for wi-fi and it's definitely not my cup of tea (see what I did there), (to even be charged for wi-fi since I'm already buying a cup of joe). The outrageous price....one dollar.
Sure I'm being a little bit of a McScrooge, but it sure is unorthodox to be charged for wi-fi at a local coffee spot, that doesn't follow the corporate appeal of Peet's and Starbucks. Then again it doesn't really dent my wallet so why should I be tripping?

I should understand that even after Gaylord Focker, "met the parents" he needs to "meet the utility bills," as well go figure.

In a ongoing pursuit of  happiness and the perfect cup of espresso I think I've found the perfect place.

Located away from the hustle and bustle and situated on the charming Piedmont Ave; Gaylord's have been serving cup after cup of warm caffeinated goodness.

For first timers it might be a little confusing and intimidating stepping up to the counter and placing your order. You don't know if you want their Flavorful Teas, Super-Sweet Blended Coffees, Assortment of Cookies and Baked Goods, or just a simple Cup of Joe or Latte. But don't fright! The eclectic and helpful staff are friendly and knowledgeable to explain which and what drink will calm the inner caffeine demon in you.

Getting a table let alone a seat here is a feat in itself. Majority of the time it's packed with people studying, enjoying the monthly installment of art-work along the wall, or just sitting around chit-chatting.

Parking...is not a laughing matter on Piedmont Ave. Be sure to either have someone jump out of the car and do a quick pick up or you'll be driving up down and around the block!

What I recommend:
If you're going to have a long day and want to start your day or night get the...MATTERHORN MOCHA! This drink is not for the faint of heart. A ice blended concoction of sweet coffee drug.  One sip and you're going to be hooked! I had to stop drinking it, twice a day, because people would hate that I was doing their work!

I miss this place since I moved to the O.C but whenever I get the chance I drive straight from Oakland airport to Gaylord's!

I remember a time when Gaylord's was actually a pleasant  and somewhat quiet place to sit and sip your coffee, people watch, or read a book.  Now, you're lucky to not have to wait 15 minutes for your macchiato, and forget about actually having a place to sit - ever.   Usually about 90% of the "for here" customers are busy pecking at their laptops with no plans of leaving anytime soon.

Too busy and too many WiFiers (even though you have to pay for it!)

So they don't make the absolute best lattes ever...the designs in the foam are pretty awesome.  Moreover, it is about loyalty with Gaylord's.  This is the first coffee shop I ever lurked in, circa 9th grade, 1998.  It is where it all began.   History man.  History.  We all remember when my friend Anna tried to get a job and failed due to lack of tattoos.  We all remember choking down those espresso shots so we could bounce off the walls for hours.  And of course we all remember staying here until closing...which was also curfew...midnight, on Saturday nights.  Ah yes Gaylord's.  I think I still have the same frequent buyer card from 1998.  How is it I have never yet received a free beverage?
I still chill here on occasion.  And reminisce about the days of yore...

come here for a strong cup of jo.  i've been coming to this place sporadically for the last few years and it remains the go-to coffee shop for my friends and i to grap some coffee, sit and chat forever.  after it closes, we would skip on across the street to la myx, a tea shop that stays open a bit longer.  and if gaylord's is crowded, theres always starbucks and peet's that are on the next block.

lately i've been coming here to study and its okay.  1.40 for a small coffee and .70 for refills.  they have outlets all around the room, but the tables are not as big as i'd prefer.  they also don't care how long u stay.  there are a lot of customers coming in and out, and at times it's very very crowded and could be loud, ie sundays around 1pm.  but they also have a few tables outside for u to simultaneously enjoy coffee and the sun.

pro:  cheap and really good coffee.

con:  sometimes hard to find parking... but it is to be expected in piedmont.  paid wifi... albeit cheap (1$ for all day), i only categorize wifi as free or not free

verdict:  a local favorite. come check it out!

No doubt about it, the drinks are fabulous, mmm whipped cream, super sugary sweet chocolate-y mochas, good coffee and bagels. For the most part the staff is eclectic and interesting and the clientele diverse and friendly.

The reason I am not giving my favorite coffee joint on Piedmont Ave 5 stars, is because of the excessive use of paper products and trash. On a recent weekday morning, I was the second customer to come into the place, set up my laptop - which I would assume is an indication that I would be around for a bit, and went ahead to order a drink and a bagel. I was given a paper cup and when I asked for a ceramic or glass cup the cashier grudgingly gave me one. Then my drink arrived with my bagel - and the bagel was wrapped in foil, the cream cheese in a plastic container, and it was all stuffed into a paper bag with a plastic knife.

Later on my friend arrived, still early - maybe 5 people in the joint now, and the same thing happened - paper cup, bagel wrapped in excessive trash. What the ??#@?! Ok, maybe it was the early morning (9:00?) or no one had done dishes from the day before? or they figured if they didn't use dishes then no one would need to wash any later? It made me feel guilty and degraded like I do when I go to Starbucks on a road trip. Come on Gaylords, you can do better.

Good stuff, good coffee for one, the girl at the register was so-so, but the guy making the coffee was awesome. A couple before me and a friend ordered two lattes I believe, and the guy was a natural born foam artist. He made a bunny and butterfly.. soooo cool. He made me a BEAR! CAL bear to be exact :) That definitely earned gaylords 1 star, another star for good coffee and another for outside seating.

UPDATE:  Went back, the ice coffee was good.

----

OLD:  The skinny love machine with the blue framed glasses is NOT hip, he's actually terrible at his job.

I agree with the cleaning -- something needs to be cleaned here.  The coffee tastes dirty. And what's the point of using coffee ice cubes if the coffee ice cube flavor ruins the rest of your iced coffee?

It looks like they offer free wifi here, as all the tables are taken up by people with their Macbooks.

I'm all for supporting local, but the management has to figure out a few things (recap: blue glasses and dirty coffee flavor).

Love this place for getting some work done. Big windows, cozy wooden decor meets spacious feel. No inconsiderate college kids; not a Bacchanal but not a library either. Generous enough wi-fi set-up. Decent-yummy coffee drinks. I'm set. The food situation could probably be better here. Every time I've ordered anything on the menu they've been out of my first choice, at least. Also I always feel bad when I have to go through an employee area to get to a bathroom, especially at a beverage place (multiple trips!). Finally, Piedmont parking is always a commitment.

My ideal cafe would be a replica of  the perfect cliche that was the student run coffee shop at my small women's college, complete with vegan baked goods, rotating art exhibitions, an eclectic assortment of music, furniture and barista personalities, and an atmosphere as conducive to study as it is to a friendly gathering (you can leave out the excessive use of Target style plastic bins and ancient issues of I'mReallyLiberal, really! magazines). Yelp has guided my Oakland quest for this magical place and most recently led me here. Well, the coffee is decent, the lauded vegan chocolate chip cookie is indeed worthy of praise, but will I go out of my way to come here? Hmmm...

I went a few times and these are my observations: service can be spotty. One girl was lovely and super apologetic that they were out of those cookies (darn!), others indifferent, others bordering on rude. The  interior isn't particularly nice, but it's always packed, mostly with individuals attached to their computer screens, which doesn't make for a convenient environment if you're in a group or an especially welcoming one if you are not attached to a computer screen.

Other baked goods I've had, though decent, weren't nearly as good as that (really good) cookie, which is worth going at least once for. I was a little surprised that the cookies are actually packaged, when I did get one it had just come out of the freezer, but that was definitely the best previously plastic wrapped food item I have ever eaten. The mood at Gaylord's is not really what I go for and the coffee itself isn't enough to bring me back, but if you are a student, or a person with one of those mythical jobs that allows you to spend all your time in cafes, then enjoy! I'll just get my cookie to go.

Grumpy servers, weak coffee and no place to sit on a Friday morning at 9:30.

One star for the student art on the walls.

You go to Gaylord's for the coffee fairly traded and tasty, becuz it is open until 12, becaws the wi-fi is slammin, there is always an outlet where you need one, cos the music is like a worn pair of jeans.

You don't go to Gaylords expecting to find a free seat.

The food looks tasty but I've never had any of it. If you are in the hood and desire a good cup of joe you can't go wrong and you certainly could do worse - think ubiquitous Seattle coffee chain.

They had a decent selection of teas for a coffee house.  Their oolong lasted so long.  Their chai lattes made of soy was liked by this goy.

I came here for the first time on Sat., Oct. 11, 2008 around 11:30am and it was really packed. Lots of people here with their laptops. I almost didn't find a table to sit at.

The pastry was good. The girl at the register was nice and warned me that the drink I ordered has four shots of espresso in it. Phillip did a good job on my latte, it was hot, tasty and pretty! :)

My only complaints are: that my for here order was served in a paper cup. I would've preferred a ceramic latte cup and the music was kind of sucky.

My friend and I enjoyed seeing the conspicuously rather empty corporate coffee place across the street from Gaylord's. Cute cute little coffeehouse with much character both in the staff and the decor, including a display-cased electronic organ used as a table for the coffee fixins (sugar, cream, stirrers, napkins, etc.) and a re-purposed filing cabinet for "filing away" used dishes, recyclables, and trash. My friend's mainstay, an iced mocha, made his for his hearty approval; I enjoyed my iced coffee. The zucchini bread slice I also had, although flavorful, could have been a bit more moist. I have made visits off and on in the past several years, but hope to make this a stopping point more frequently during visits to the Piedmont neighborhood of Oakland.
