When I want to indulge in a my addiction to Indian food, I come here to their lunch buffet. It's pretty pricy, but there's sooo much to pick from. They have a bhel puri section. They make their own samosa (they are perfection, thin crusted, flaky and yummy.) Their makhani  for the paneer makhani is as good as mine! Their saag was equally as good.

Lost a star for bad naan. :( Dry, no life to it.

Gulab jamun was good, too much rose water for me. The kheer was not watery...yay! but it wasn't flavorful.

Tandoori chicken is really good, too. No red dye! Yay!

Gaylord can make me go gay anytime.

Gaylord, oh Lord how gay!  (That is to say, the restaurant was awful.  Not meant to offend my homosexual brothers and lesbian-riffic sisters.)

Anyway:

Food looked pretty
Tasted pretty shitty
Service was good
It's near my 'hood.
Waitstaff was fine
Dont' come here to dine
Naan was dry
Oh me, oh my
Buffet was bad
Alka Seltzer I wish I had
To ease my upset tummy
Gaylord's food was not yummy
Didn't see any Indians here eating
I'd like to give the chef a figurative beating
For making his food taste so bland
I'll go ahead and raise my hand
To give the restaurant my middle finger salute
Boy do I have an aggravated poop chute
I must expel this crap right now
And relieve my violated lower bowel
For Indian food I'll go elsewhere
Or to Mickey D's for some fries to share.
Gaylord, no heat, no flavor, definitely no spice
Bland ass sauces and day old rice
Lots of veggies, no pork, no beef
Entrees that tasted like a hooker's queef.

THE END

Winner, winner, I'll pass on your flavorless "Indian" food and head down to Devon for a fantastic dinner.

I've been going to Gaylord's with a few of my co-workers for several years. It was one of my first if not first regular Indian buffet places.

I'm a big fan of Chicken Masala and when I first started going  to Gaylord's a few years back their Chicken Masala  was tops, the spice was nice and then some, but one of the things that made it tops was the Chicken Masala was boneless. However of late I can't recall when they last had it boneless, in fact most times they don't even have Chicken Masala.  I 'm OK with the other chicken servings  (curry, makhani) but none have been boneless and it simply makes eating less of an enjoyment having to cut what is less chicken of the bone and weary of small ones in the sauces.

However Gaylord's is still are good on the Chicken Tandoori, ground lamb with peas and Gulab Jamun. The naan is average.

My co-workers who are more adventurous then me like the wide selection at Gaylord's verses other Indian buffets and give it a thumbs up on flavor.

The service has for the most part been as good as it can for a buffet.

It is the most pricey buffet of the several I go to and there was one incident where they charged us a 19% gratuity for a party of five, that did not go over well at all.

A year or two I cold of easily given Gaylord's 5 stars and it I was a fussy finicky bear I'd give them 4 stars if they still had boneless Chicken Masala but the truth is I am a fussy and finicky bear and thus am giving them 3 stars.

However if your a fan of Indian Cuisine and could careless about my fussy and finicky attitude, I think you'll enjoy Gaylord India Restaurant

Not a good variety at ALL for an Indian buffet.  Way overpriced for what you get.  I used to live in near the Little India in Cerritos, CA, so I know a good Indian buffet when I see it!  There are definitely better places in Schaumburg to eat lunch!

I am a fan of Indian food - nothing beats good chicken tikka masala and naan.  Ihad heard good things about this restaurant so went with the g/f.  We had a good meal - nothing to broadcast to the world but solid indian cuisine.  The service was excellent.  I would return for a meal but not terribly often.  the Naan was good though!

We went with a group of about 8 people and almost all of us got the King's meal.  It's a combination of 4 or 5 different dishes.  The food was pretty good but Ithought it was weird that they combined all of our orders. Instead of bringing out individual King's meals, they gave us a large portion of each of the dishes we were supposed to get.  This made division of food pretty difficult.  I don't think everyone got to try all the dishes and it made trying to take leftovers home even more annoying.  It's probably not a place I'd go back to.  The next time I get a craving for Indian food, I'll just head over to Devon.

Great for a lunch buffet! The selection of food is great from entrees to desserts. I highly recommend the Tandoori chicken. The food is constantly warm and never empty.

The restaurant is very clean and pristine, and the staff is very attentive. The staff quickly respond to your requests. However, since it was my first time there, the host seems to be a bit annoyed at my naïveté.

Still, the restaurant is great for lunch buffets. The price is rather high at $13.38

Best North Indian food I have tasted thus far. However their portion sizes just went down. Spending $55 with not a whole lot of leftovers kinda makes me sad. This is a list of things I usually always get when I visit there.

Appetizer: Samosas

Drink: Mango Lassi, Masala tea

Entrée: Chicken Tikka Masala

Bengan Bartha

Golbi Aloo

Also an order of Naan to go with the meal. I personally like to eat with it rather than using my fork, I think it adds to the flavor.

I also hear they have a good lunch buffet. Buffets are good because you get to try a bunch of food at once for a low price. Especially if you have never eaten Indian food before.

Also the staff is usually very attentive, conversational and amiable.

I'm a big fan of the saag paneer and the tandoori here. They are a little pricy for desi food but you get what you pay for. I can't comment on inside since I always get take out. The keema naan / samosa are both very tasty too. If you're a fan of intense garlic, get the garlic naan... just don't plan on doing anything afterwards because your breath will stink!

What can I say.....I enjoy eating at  Gaylord, Schaumburg. I have been frequenting this place since 2000 when I used to work in Schaumburg. I have ordered ala carte as well as eaten the lunch buffet. Both options are good.

The samosas are to die for, crisp crust with just melt in the mouth potato and peas filling. They have chat ( commonly found street found all over India), the tamarind chutney is very good.I always add it, quite generously over all my food because I just can't get enough of it.

Tandoori chicken is like most other Indian restaurants, nothing spectacular. Nan and Paneer Nan are  always awesome. You can actually see the chef making the Tandoori breads, it is a very cool sight; not many Indian restaurants allow you see their chefs.

I remember I was here on a date with my husband( before we were married) and all that I ate was the Paneer Nan and Chicken Makhani. I was making goo-goo eyes, at the food...but hubby thought it was him!

I am partial to the mango Kulfi and Gulab Jamun, I don't care for the rice pudding( I hate milk in any form).

Its a nice place to take family and kids, plenty of room for kids. I have been here with my nephews ( 3yrs and 1.6 yrs) neither did they, or the adults get stir crazy. It is wheelchair accessible, easy to select food. The way the buffet is laid out is pretty unique, in that it is laid out in a 'U' shape. You can get to the food from both sides...whats not to love!!

Decent buffet, but nothing really fancy or outstanding. How can I use the words fancy or outstanding when referring to an Indian buffet, you ask? When I used to work downtown, a fabulous buffet could be had at Klay Oven for $9.95 (at the time) with a punchcard that scored me every 8th lunch free. I guess they spoiled me on an outstanding Indian buffet. Gaylord ain't no Klay Oven, but it ain't bad either. Although I practically had to use runway flags to get naan and water, so the service kinda stunk.

I just wish it was cheaper, to reflect the quality. Oops did I just type that out loud?

The buffet at Gaylord India Restaurant is consistently good however the selection hardly ever changes. For meat lovers there are two choices of dishes, one of which is tandoori chicken and a lamb dish. If you are lucky you may find mango ice cream which is a nice touch after a heavy meal.

Awesome samosas, everything else was wonderful and flavorful as well.  The tandoori chicken was moist and flavorful.  Next time I'm going for the lamb biryani!

Three guys, we headed out in search of some bangin'lamb biryani.  We could only hope it's as awesome as what my Ma' makes.

So, how was it?

Too costly and it wasn't great, nor worth its menu price.   $16.95 for an order of Lamb Biryani which barely served two people, is redunkulous.(That is ridiculous and dumb)  Served in an artistic conch shaped bowl, done so to give the illusion of fine dining and make you forget about the miniscule amount served. Silly tri-colored rice with a cheap offering of 4-5 bite size pieces of lamb, too tiny for a real taste.  This would not fly in India or on Devon Ave (Chicago). Which is why it's perfect that they overcharge out here in Schaumburg.
P.S., I told them more than once that I needed it extra spicy. Broil had ordered.  (Brother-in-law=Broil) I would guess because he is White American, the server assumes he can't handle it and they make it with a tiny amount of hot.

It wasn't hot at all, we couldn't taste any heat. (I need to carry chili powder on my person in the future)
We also sampled the Butter chicken with garlic naan which was bangin'.  Butter chicken is always a pleaser anywhere and its pretty hard to mess up.(Though some restaurants do mess it up) Chicken tikka masala was just "eh" in comparison.

Kingfisher 12oz bottles are $6 each. Bogus, typically I've always had it in its original 40oz bottle for the same cost, elsewhere.

If you ordered something which they did not bring, make sure you address it and make sure it's what you want and/or you get credited.
If you asked for spicy, double check with the waiter that he put it in as spicy.  Too many blah's for me.  Top it all off with the final bill at $130 dollars plus tip for three people that ordered conservatively. That's too damn much.  Plus we had to pay for something we didn't order.  After all that money spent I was still hungry.  Not to mention super duper "dude you're setting off radiation alerts gaseous"

Why is it, restaurants think when they create a "fine dining experience" they can charge whatever makes them happy. There is nothing about this restaurant that would bring me back. So what if the dude helping you is wearing a suit.  I want to eat good.  I don't care about what he's wearing.

Check the silly sign outside which states, "We apologize for the skyrocketing price of our buffet.  It's due to the economy."  Trade in your suits and lessen the price guys.

Its a good fit for those looking for a more Western approach at Indian dining.

Even when I was living in the area, I tried and avoided going to this place. But thought might be a better option since the place I like to go was closed on that day.
Where should I begin; well, the ambience of this place truly is crappy. I have never liked here. All the waiters / servers are not at all polite and professional, except a very few maybe. The host who sits the guests was quiet loud. So much, he seemed deaf. Arrival of every guest(s) group was apparently let known to the ones already seated.
I have tried their lunch buffet earlier and had been here last for the alacarte dinner.
Their food does not have any taste in particular. It lacks salt, spicyness and even proper ingredients. Saying that the food is Bland would be an appreciation because none of their dishes have the taste that they need to.
The service / attentiveness sucks. We were served everything, starting with the appetizer to the main dinner entry by a waiter who seemed to be being chased by a mad dog. After that, no one even cared to pay attention, not even to ask for water. The staff never took notice of our gestures to call any of them as if we were invisible.
Cost if bit on the higher side. There are lot many better places people.
And yes, I am an Indian.

Indian food outside of Devon Ave in Chicago?  No way!  I was skeptical but we tried it anyway.  I was pleasantly surprised by the service and quality of the food there.  We went there for our 30th birthday (my wife and I, yes we have the same birthday.  Born on the same day and no we're not twins or related in any way).  A lot of our friends are from the suburbs and to make things easier we elected to go to a restaurant that was in between the city and the far suburbs.

We got  a reservation for 18 people and were seated promptly.  We had 2 waiters both did a great job and the old guy was hilarious.  Made dinner very enjoyable with his heckling of my friends.  I had a great time there.  The food was great and the lamb vindalu was awesome.  Super spicy and very good.  My wife had the chicken tikka misala and I can't remember what other people had but they all had a pretty good time there and I am pretty sure a few of them would come back if they had the chance.  Overall a very good birthday party with free mango ice cream!

woot!

20% discount on takeaway! YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!

I only visit Gaylord's when I'm in Schaumburg on business, and am always tied up during buffet so I've only done takeout. But the takeout I have gotten has been just as conscientiously prepared as if I ate in to include a tray of fresh diced vegetables, chiles, and lemon wedge for my entree. I haven't had Indian like this since I was in England. Really great.

We went to Gaylord with a gift card to use.
My hubby and I went on a Monday. We got there just as the food was being put out on the buffet. Thought the price was a tad high for  a lunch buffet. I especially liked the keema mutter, sag paneer, banana peppers in tomato sauce, baby eggplant, spicy pumpkin and  the veggie soup. We also liked the naan. We had no problem with service. We will go back.

I'm not a big fan of buffet-type places, but Gaylord India is different. You can't miss their weekend lunch buffets - they are great!

We have been going there for years and are always satisfied.

They have a large selection of dishes. There is something new every time we eat there. I had no idea you could make so many delicious vegetarian dishes! I still don't know the names of most of them but I love them all. :)

The waiters are very pleasant, immaculately dressed (in suits) and always there when you need them.

I highly recommend this place.

I'm a big fan of Indian food to start with, but this place is really better than the average Indian joint in my opinion. Instead of just a row of average curries they have a lot of other choices too. I *really* like the fresh vegetables section at the end so I can garnish my plate with lots of onion, coriander, hot chiles, carrot, and various other sauces and things.

The buffet is $10.95 per person the couple times we went for Sunday lunch.

If your kids are super picky like mine are (they will only eat white rice here), you might consider bringing something for them to do. We have a tackle box full of crayons, markers, and rubber stamps/stamp pad that they can use to decorate the obligatory Chicago-style sheet of white butcher paper that covers the table cloths everywhere you go.

Guys don't get uncomfortable, jittery, petrified or whatever-the-feeling-fied..when you hear the name of this restaurant :-) And it has a open door policy no matter what your sexual orientation is :-) Coming to food, this place is probably one of the best in the greater chicago land area for authentic indian food. To know it better, please go and give it a try. Just one suggestion before going to this place please go and have food at India House. This will give a lot of perspective !!

I was lucky enough to eat at Gaylords for the first time with a married couple whom are Indian.  I am not a very experienced Indian Food consumer--so they guided me through.  Everything was delicious! The Samosas were my favorite.  The wait staff was very effecient and kind.
The only reason I do not give this 5 stars is that the atmosphere is less than stellar---but everything else was wonderful!
I look forward to my next meal at Gaylord!

I was afraid to try Indian food due to my allergy to peppers.  The waitstaff was so incredibly accommodating it blew me away.  I actually felt like royalty.

The menu had so many things that I wanted to try, and the staff was willing to stand there and describe each dish.

The food came quickly, and everything was lovely to smell, see and eat.  Halfway through the meal we were already planning our next visit and jotting down our favorite dishes.

After our total gorge-fest, our sharply dressed server asked if we would like dessert.  We declined, as it was late and we were pretty full.  When the check arrived, so did a small plate of sample sized desserts on the house.  NICE!

The only reason they did not earn the coveted 5 star:  The actual space is funny.  It used to be some kind of showroom or something and you can tell.

The food was really good but the service is hit or miss. The first time we went it wasn't very busy, only a few tables were taken, and our waiter was the worst. I think he had friends at the table directly behind us so he spent most of his time there. Because we were convinced that our bad experience was due to our server we did go back one other time and it was much much better and the rest was much busier that night as well. That is why I am giving them 3 stars.

I'll admit it - I rarely go to Indian restaurants for dinner, I'm all about the buffet.

I've been to Gaylord for dinner and found the food to be enjoyable, but overpriced - just like just about every other Indian place I've been to outside Devon Avenue.

So speaking about the buffet only - this place is solid.  The food is appropriately spiced - nothing is mild but nothing is overbearing - the trays are consistently refreshed, and the service is fine.

I've had some strange things at other places - bags of frozen vegetables (you know the corn/carrot/lima bean/pea bags that are 10 for $10?) in a bland curry sauce and been charged $8 - I've never seen that nonsense at Gaylord, even on the buffet where you half expect corners to be cut.

When I have a hankering for Indian in Schaumburg, there's no comparison - Gaylord is it.  .

I'm a huge fan of India House, but Gaylords is tight as hell.  It's definitely worth the lunch buffet, but India house has a larger selection and they bring out sizzling tandoori chicken.  They don't overdue the masala or curry here, to appease caucasian taste buds, so it's definitely a winner for a lunch choice.

I have alsways liked tandoori chicken with yogurt sauce as well as other milder Indian dishes.  I also like Indian sweets!  The Sunday brunch was varied and plentiful- whether you are a vegetarian or meat eater- there will be lots of really yummy (and NOT too spicy) choices-  I had some expert help to guide me thru my choices- so I was really happy with the food. The wait staff is very friendly and this is definitely a place to put on your list of Indian restaurants to try.

If you are new to indian cuisine, then the buffet is the best way to introduce yourself to good indian food. They have a good variety. They also have few vegetarian dishes which might suit the veggies in here. The price is reasonable and the restaurant is clean and bright unlike devon.

I'm biased on this one.  Years ago during the swing craze I had a regular gig next door at the club that changes names every 6 months.  All the Indian food I had eaten up until that point was north Indian- homogenous seasoning, too much cream, and bland, cardboard flavored naan.  Then this place hipped me to Sambar, Dosa, Idli, etc...  Ever since, it's been hard for me to even think of choosing a north Indian meal when given the choice.  Fortunately, you don't have to here- they offer selections from both regions with fresh ingredients and less grease than you find elsewhere.  The buffet is truly the way to go- they even have a Bhel station!  There is usually a good kulfi and fresh fruit on the dessert bar, and of course, it's conveniently located in Chicago's mall (maul) haven, Schaumburg.  The next time your GF drags you to IKEA for more cheap Swedish crap, stop by Gaylords first.  The food coma will deter her from that wall unit you hate, and make your visit to Schaumburg far, far more tolerable.

Very good food. There's also one location in the city, downtown on Clark St.

A great place to go for an awesome lunch buffet! Currys, vegetables, rice -- you name it, they got it! It's really reasonably priced too and the wait's never too long.  Don't miss out on this one!

Surprisingly good for food on a road called "Mall Drive".  I loved the vegetable curry I got, although the appetizer was just mediocre.  The service was just fine and I left with a happy belly.  What more could a person ask for?
